This old- established Hotel, quietly and very pleasantly situated, is close to Charing Cross and the Royal Courts of Justice. Police Officers and Witnesses coming to London will find a comfortable home on most reasonable terms. " He that believeth 011 the Son hath everlasting life." " This looks reasonable. Man lost life by unbelief — by not believing God's Word ; and we get life back again by believing— by taking God at His Word. In other words, we get up where Adam fell down. He stumbled and fell over the stone of unbelief; we are lifted up and stand upright by believing. When people say they cannot believe, show them chapter and verse, and hold them right to this one thing. ' Has God ever broken His promise for these 6,000 years 1' The devil and men have been trying all the time and have not succeeded in showing that He has broken a single promise ; and there would be a jubilee in hell to- day if one word that He has spoken could be broken. Human affairs would come to a standstill if we did not take the testimony of men. Things social and commercial would come to a dead- lock within 48 hours! This is the drift of the Apostle's argument, ' If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater.' God has borne witness to Jesus Christ. Faith is a belief in testi- mony. It is not a leap into the dark as some tell us. God does not ask any man to believe without giving him something to believe. Faith is the hand that takes the blessing. Faith is the eye of the soul. We want to come to this; God says it— let us believe it. But some say faith is the gift of God— so is the air, but you have to breathe it; so is bread, but you have to eat it. It is not for us to sit down and wait for faith to come stealing over us with a strange sensa- tion ; but it is for us to take the Word as it is written, and appropriate it, and lay hold of it. ' Faith cometh by hearing ; and hearing by the Word of God.'" D. L. MOODY. IF YOU WANT A WATCH TO LAST A LIFETIME, BUY AN ENGLISH THREE- QUARTER PLATE LEVER. SPECIALLY RECOMMENDED FOE THE POLIOS.
