ENGLISH POLICE. ABSCONDED on the 13th instant, and now charged by Warrant with embezzlement, John Moran, alias C. F. Drancourt:— A journalist or surveyor, 29 years of age, 5 feet 2£ inches high, proportionate build, brown hair, bald fore part of head, reddish brown moustache, gray eyes, fair complexion, slightly freckled, oval features, respectable appearance, of good address, can speak French; dressed when last seen in a dark suit, snuff coloured overcoat, and black hard felt hat; had a new Macintosh coat, generally wears a massive gold ring with imitation diamond on third finger, right hand; he was convicted at Wakefield Sessions, 12th August, 1878, of fraud, after previous conviction of forgery, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude and 3 years' supervision; lie VIM several crossed cheques payable to John J. or J. J. Lawkins, " Catholic Times " Office, Liverpool, in his possession, and may endeavour to negotiate them. As he may endeavour to obtain employment by writing for newspapers or magazines, or with a surveyor, pleaso cause inquiry to be made at all likely places, and, if found, arrest, and telegraph infor- mation to the Chief Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of Alexandre ( or Auguste) Wallman, charged on Warrant with obtaining £ 174 by false pretences, on the 28th January, 1885, by cheque on Credit Lyonnais, Paris:— A Russian, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, slight build, large nose, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, light moustache, no beard or whiskers, blue or grayish eyes. Speaks good English, and said he wis a Mining Engineer and Colliery Proprietor in Russia, and came to England to learn about colliery plant and machinery, with a view of introducing improvements in his own colliery in Russia. Dressed in long black Chesterfield overcoat, high silk hat. Is a good violinist; has with him a violin and case, calls on music sellers, and negotiates for buying a violin. Calls for letters at Post Office. Draws cheques on Nord Deutsche Bank, Helsingfors, and Credit Lyonnais, Paris. Accompanied by his wife, Olga Wallman, a Russian, who speaks but very little English, about 25 years of age, strong build, dark complexion, round face, and about the same height as Wallman. Supposed to be dressed in black felt hat with feather, long black silk jacket trimmed with black fur round bottom, and gray linsey dress. Has a baby about 9 months old. Their luggage consisted of a large oak colour tin box, a black box with brass nails in it, a cradle, some bundles, and a hat box. Five Pounds will be paid to any one who will give information that may lead to the apprehension of the said Alexandre Wallman. This man is an accomplished swindler, and will no doubt commence his swindling operations in some other part of England. Police Officers are therefore requested to make inquiries for him at shipping offices, hotels, lodging houses, music- sellers, concert leaders, Ac., and, if found, to arrest him and tele- graph to Mr. SINCLAIR, Head Constable, Newport, Mon. En$,[: sh Convict Mary Quinn, otherwise Smith, otherwise Quale, otherwise Nolan, not arrested; Hue- and- Ciy, 19th August, 1884. ^ Licence- holder Patrick Murphy, described in Hue- and- Cry of 10th of last June, has not been arrested. SCOTTISH POLICE. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. WANTED on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with embezzlement of £ 30 sterling, the property of a firm of manufacturers in the city, John Cochrane;— A cashier, 84 years* of age, 5 feet 1 inch in height, ordinary make, brown hair, slight brown moustache, otherwise no hair on face; thick lips ; dressed in a dark tweed jacket, dark or light tweed trowsers, heather mixture tweed Ulster, and felt hat; re- spectable appearance; resided at 113, Greenhead- street, Glasgow. Absconded on night of 19th February current. It is expected that the embezzlement will amount to a considerable sum.* Police officers are requested to make particular search and inquiry for accused at hotels, theatres, music halls, shipping offices, and other likely places, and if found arrest, and communicate with A. M'CALL, Chief Constable, Detective Department, Central Police Chambers, Glasgow, February 23, 1885. * Since the above was forwarded it has been ascer- tained that it amounts to £ 300. Glasgow, Feb. 24, 1885. ( 30143 m.— 56505.) WANTED for theft of three watches entrusted to him to repair, between the 1st November and 20th January last, Stephen Johns :— A. collier or jobbing watchmaker, about 35 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair and moustache, whiskers shaved off, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, slender build, speaks with an English accent; wore a black hard felt hat, gray tweed jacket, dark cord vest and trowsers. Has a smart military appearance ; served 12 years in the 21st Regiment, and was discharged in August, 1883. In his Army attestation papers his next- of- kin is his father, Samuel Johns, Bickington, Newton Abbot, Devonshire. Ho absconded from Ayr on 20th January. May be found at collieries or travelling as a jobbing watchmaker, or in a militia barracks undergoing preliminary training. Warrant issued. Description of the Watches :— Two of the watches have been recovered, the other is an English patent lever silver watch, No. 41602, flowered dial, gold chapters, steel hands, figures on dial defaced. WANTED at city of Edinburgh, charged with failing to report his change of residence, in terms of the conditions of his licence:— Licence- holder G 970, Alfred Evans, alias Tommy Good- for- Nothing, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 J inches in height, well made, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, oval face, slight moustache, otherwise shaved, scar right side of head, scar right knee, scar above right wrist, blue mark left forearm, and vaccination mark left arm. The above Alfred Evans was concerned in a large housebreaking and robbery at Blantyre, Lanarkshire, in 1880, and he may be again working in this county. ( 29777 M.— 55205.) DESCRIPTION of Haber Knocbur, alias James Davis, native of Lancashire, who stands charged with hav- ing changed his residence from 22, Carrick- hill, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, without notifying same, and failed to report himself since 17th December, 1884, he being a convict on licence :— Cut scar corner of right eye, top of 2nd and 3rd fingers of left hand injured, blue eyes, fresh complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 3J inches high, about 37 years of age, light brown hair; is a brick moulder. DESCRIPTION of a young man and a young woman, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with_ having, on the 10th'of February, 1885, in the barony of West Carbery, W. D., parish of Caharagh, stolen a two- year- old heifer ( since recovered), the property of Denis Collins :— 1. Blue eyes, ordinary nose, sandy complexion, round face, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, sandy hair; wore a gray tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest. 2. 5 feet 5 inches high, about 22 years of age ; wore a gray tweed cloak. Looks like a sister of No. 1. Skibbereen, Feb. 23, 1885. ( 67273 c.— 17482.) DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned articles of jewellery, which were stolen from the residence of the Rev. Mr. Tomes, Glenville, parish of Ardna- gcehy, barony of Barrymore, between the hours of 11 AM., and 12 45 P. M., on 15th February, 1885 :— A lady's gold Geneva watch, gold dial, number and maker's name unknown, value for £ 6 ; a gold chain, to which was attached a gold locket, horse shoe pattern, with blue enamel stripe; a coral hand; a peach stone ; a silver trumpet; a silver button hook, and an aluminum pencil, all value for £ 6 1 5s.; also a black leather purse, containing five small diamonds, sixpence in silver, a penny, and two silver foreign coins, value for f 1 10s. Fermoy, February 21, 1885. ( 67245 c.— 17437.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, 6n the 3rd February, 1885, absconded from the St. Patrick's Reformatory School at Upton, co. Cork : Patrick Buttler, 17 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, proportionate make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose, medium mouth; formerly belonged to Cappawhite, county Tipperary ; his parents reside at Beggins. The school dress consists of corduroy trowsers and sleeved corduroy waistcoat, dark tweed coat, leather belt, blue striped shirt, all with Reformatory stamp ; Glengarry cap, and nailed boots fastened with leather straps. The mother of this boy is a blind woman, begging about the country, having three or four children along with her. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 30039 M.— 56344.) The three persons, names and native places unknown ( charged with having robbed Thomas M'Grath), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd Septem- ber, 1884. Young offender, Michael Mahony, belonging to the city of Cork, not arrested; Huo- and- Cry, 26th August, 1884. John Hogan ( manslaughter^, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 12th August, 1884. Donegal. DESCRIPTION of Mary Feeny or Logue, native of Magilligan or Eglinton, county Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the 20th February, 1885, in the barony of Innishowen, parish of Muff, unlawfully abandoned a male infant, thereby er- dangering its life ( see Hue- and- Cry, dated 24th Feb- ruary, 1885) :— Dark eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, medium make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about ••> 5 or 30 years of age, shining black hair; wore a Cashmere dress trimmed with black satin, black jacket trimmed with fur, and yellow necktie; is a shirtmaker; stated she was married to a man named Logue. DESCRIPTION of two persons, supposed to be Michael Kelly and his wife, native places unknown, who stand charged on suspicion with having, on the night of 30th November, or morning of 1st December, 1884, irt the barony of Banagh, parish of Killaghtee, murdered one Bridget Cunningham: 1. Swaggering gait, brown moustache, small side whiskers, brown eyes, regular nose, rather pale com- plexion, rrund full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, black hair, turning gray ; wore a round black felt hat, old gray coat rather long, dark coloured trowsers; is an itinerant fiddler. 2. Blue eyes, long pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore an old dark gray shawl; is a tramp, and accompanies No. 1 from town to town. ( 66295 c.— 16300 ) Down Hugh Mulholland, native of Carrickmannon, who, on the 14th July, 1884, Ipft hist- bemfe, in the barony of Castlerea, parish of Killinchy, and has not since been heard of; he is of weak mind; his friends would be thankful to the Police for any information about him; Hue- and- Cry, 21 October, 1884. Martin Folan ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th September, 1884, Mary Bligh, alias Lynch, native of Ballymoe, who disappeared from her home, in the barony of Bally- moe, parish of Drumatemple, on or about the 9th January, 1884, has not been since heard of; Hue- and- Cry, 28th March, 1884. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young oflerdcr, who on the 23rd February, 1885, abscorded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County:— Richard Halpin, 795, 18 years of age, 5 feet high, slight make, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, ordinary nose, regular mouth, lot g visage, scars on both legs, formerly belonged to Dublin, his parents' reside at 15, Fisher's- lane, Dublin. The shool dress all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and tunic, clastic belt, blue cloth cap ( Scotch), and strong bluchcr boots. This boy absconded with Thomas Bryar, a Waterford boy. The Manager of the^ Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the porson who may capture hiin with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of Cornelius Hunt, native of Car- hoocragh, who stands charged with having, on the llth day of January, 1885, in the barony of Irraghticonnor, parish of Knockanure, being found out of his abode, under sec. 11 of Prevention of Crime Act, and sentenced to 3 months' imprison- ment, which sentence was affirmed on appeal on 30th ultimo, but absconded before new Warrant was issued. Warrant now issued :— One tooth out of front of mouth in upper jaw, blue eyes, regular nose, f|- esh complexion, round full face, stout make, 6 feet DESCRIPTION of Martin Devine, native of Pros- perous, county Kildare, who stands charged with having, on the 4th February, 1885, in the barony of Ballycowen, parish of Kilbride, stabbed Bernard Dempsey, of Tullamore, in the neck with a pen- knife :— Remarkable cast in one eye ( supposed left), gray eyes, regular nose, pale sallow complexion, broad round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, ft^ out 4 5 or 50 years of age, gray hair; wore u tyreed atp with two peaks, blue jacket or frieze coat, upd barrigan trowsers ; is a pump borer. » Tullamorc, February, 1885. DESCRIPTION of James Waters, alias M'Manus, who, at Coolock Petty Sessions, on 16th instant, was committed for trial, at the next Commission, on the charge of having, on 16th August, 1882, at the races of Baldoyle, in the barony of Coolock, stolen from the person of Garard Irvine a silver watcTi, for which he WBS arrested in the early part of this month in the city of Manchester :— Scar on lower lash of right eye; slightly hump- backed, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, prominent forehead, high cheek bones, slight make. 5 feet 6 inches high, about 28 years of age, light brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache. When arrested he had the following articles in his possession :— A ring with ruby set between two diamonds ; a large gold stud ; and a gold chain, Albert curb pattern, 18 carat. Anything known of this mart or of the articles found in his possession to be intimated to the District Inspector of Constabulary, Clontarf. Clontarf, February 23, 1885. ( 66831 c. — 17470.) DESCRIPTION of Patrick M'Carthy and Kate M'Carthy, who stand charged with having, on the 7th February, 1885, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Tully, stolen from the house of Mrs. Anne Doyle, Kerrymount, with whom they were lodging, the several articles of clothing described at loot; — 1. Woman tattooed on chest, and a sailor on one of his wrists, gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 28 years of age, fair hair and moustache; wore a black felt hat, black cloth coat, and light tweed trowsers; is a labourer. 2. Brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 24 years of age, brown hair; wore a black hat trimmed with red velvet, red dress, black jacket, and stolen boots ; is the wife of No. 1. Description of th( j property : — An oil coat, new, the property of the D. W. and W. Railway Company, No. 52 on ono of the skirts inside at corner, buttonholes and pockets cased with leather; a pair of woman's boots, laced, nearly new; a black shawl witfi silk fringe, new; a new plaid skirt, brown and black, with small crossbar; a black velvet lady's jacket, small, fits the waist tight, a maroon- coloured skirt, trimmed with black velvet; a small round coat ( man's), black serge ; and a red carpet bag; all value for about £ 2 10s. H. Gaussen, Esq., of Newtown Villa, Kilcullen:— Shaves all his face except moustache, which is dark; dark complexion, round face, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft jerry hat, can be identiBed, daik cloth monkey jacket and dark trowsers, both greasy; has the appearance of a butcher's porter. The school dress, all with Reformatory stan p> consists of corduroy trowiers, vest, and tunic, clastic belt, blue cloth cap ( Scotch), and strong blucler boots. This boy absconded with Richard Halpin, a Dublin boy. DESCRIPTION of James Grant, states he is a native of New York, America, but speaks like an Englishman, who stands charged with having, on the 19th February, 1885, at Newcastle, in the barony of Glenquinn, parish of Newcastle West, been found under suspicious circumstances, and, failing to give a satisfactory account of himself, is remanded for 8 days to make inquiry; supposed to haVe committed crime elsewhere ; informatipn requested Of, a rather military appearance, smart and intelligent looking, tender gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, ab, out 35 years of age, brown hair, wears moustache and short - side whiskers ; wove a black jerry hat, old black coat, brown tweed trowsers and vest; ia'ft tramp. DESCRIPTION of Luke Brody or Broder ( mother's surname Cunningham ( Clonlara, county Clare) ), native of Limerick city, who stands charged with having, on the 31st January, 1885, in the borough of Limerick, parish of St. Tobias, dangerously assaulted Mary O'Neill, by striking her on the head with a tongs:— Gray eyes, long thin nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 6 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 48 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a round jerry hat, tweed frock coat, old dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Isaac Fisher, native of Ballybay, who stands charged with having, on" the morning of the 30th January, 1885, in the barony of Dartrey, parish of Aghabog, stolen out of the dwelling- house of John Richardson, of Drumbrain, where he, was lodging, a Boston lever watch which has since been recovered :— Tatooed on both wrists, dark and tender eyes, thin nose, fair complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 28 or 30 years of age, dark brown hair, wears moustache ; wore a low soft hat, gray frock coat, brown coloured trowsers and vest, and old boots ; is a flax scutcher. May- be wearing new dark tweed trowsers he bought in Clones. Served in the army, and is a militia man. Likely to be found working at some scutch mill in county Monaghan or neighbouring counties. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on tho 29th December, 1884, at Clorogemore, in the barony of Scarawalsh, parish of Templeshambo, fired at and wounded John Murphy, gamekeeper :— Brown eyes, slightly cocked nose, sandy or fair complexion, round full face, medium make, active appearance, about 5 feet 8 inches high, about 32 years of age, light or brown hair ; wore a soft hat, old faded or dirty tweed clothes, and in the coat there was a grayish stripe; is a poacher. This man was poaching when he fired the shot, and was accompanied by another man about the same age and size, and somewhat similarly dressed. They had with them a red setter, with white muzzle, and tip of tail believed to be white, and a black dog, supposed a cross between a pointer and grayhound.
