DESCRIPTION of Alexandre ( or Auguste) Wallman, charged on Warrant with obtaining £ 174 by false pretences, on the 28th January, 1885, by cheque on Credit Lyonnais, Paris:— A Russian, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 1 pr 2 inches high, slight build, large nose, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, light moustache, no beard or whiskers, blue or grayish eyes. Speaks good. English, and said he was a Mining Engineer and Colliery Proprietor in Russia, and came tq England to learn about- colliery plant and machinery, with a view of introducing improvements in his own colliery in Russia. Dressed in long black Chesterfield overcoat, high silk hat. Is a good violinist; has with him a violin and ca? e, calls on music sellers, and negotiates for buying a violin. Cays, for letters at pbst Qfljst}.. ,. Draws cheques on Nord Deutsche Bank, helsingfors, and Credit Lyonnais, Paris. v Accompanied by his wife, Olga Wallman, a Russian, who speaks but very little English, about 25 years of age, strong build, dark complexion, round face, and about the same height as Wallman. Supposed to be dressed in black felt hat with feather, long black silk jacket trimmed with black fur round bottom, and gray lins& y dress. Has a baby about 9 months old. Their luggage consisted of a large oak colour tin box, a black box with brass nails in it, a cradle, some bundles, and a hat box. Five Pounds will be paid to any one who will give information! that may lead to the apprehension of the said Alexandre Wallman. This man is an accomplished swindler, and will no doubt commence his swindling operations in some other part of England. Police Officers are therefore requested to make inquiries for him at shipping offices, hotels, lodging houses, music- sellers, concert leaders, & c., and, if found, to arrest him and tele- graph to Mr. SINCLAIR, Head Constable, Newport, Mon. Bank agents should be cautioned about him. Newport, Mon., February 5, 1885. ( 30077 M— 56402.) NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY. WANTED at Hexham, for obtaining money on the 27th ult. by false pretences, John Campbell:— States he is a farmer, about 60 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, brown hair and whiskers mixed with gray, dark eyes, fresh complexion, ordinary figure, Scotch dialect; wants fore and little fingers of right hand; droSsed in home- spun tweed cloth, colour nearly black ; wore a plaid round his shoulders fastened with a pin in front, black felt hat, and lace- up boots. Ho was convicted in Ayrshire in 1874, in the name of M'Culloch, for fraud, and is supposed to have been since convicted of fraud in Wigton- shire and Dublin; was discharged from custooy in Ireland in July, 1876, in the name of Robert Craig, alias Gray, alias M'Culloch j was wanted for fraud in Kirkcudbrightshire in 1880, and in Cumberland in 1883. English Convict Maiy Quinn, otherwise Smith, otherwise Mlc, otherwise Nolan, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry; I ^ August, 1884. Licence- holder Patrick Murphy, described in Hue- and- Cry of 10th of last June, has not been arrested. SCOTTISH POLICE. ' WANTED for theft of three watches entrusted to him to repair, between the 1st November and 20th January last, Stephen Johns:— A collier or jobbing watchmaker, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inchcs high, light brown hair and moustache, whiskers shaved off, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, slender build, speaks with an English accent; wore a black hard felt hat, gjray tweed jacket, dark cord vest and trowsers. Has a smart military appearance ; served 12 years in the 21st Regiment, and was discharged in August, 1883. In his Army attestation papers his next- of- kin is his father, Samuel Johns, Bickington, Newton Abbot, Devonshire. He absconded from Ayr on 20th January. May be found at collieries or travelling as a jobbing watchmaker, or in a militia barracks undergoing preliminary training.- Warrant issued. Desorifrtien- of tho Watchoa :— Two of the watches have been recovered, the other is an English patent lever silver watch, No. 41602, flowered dial, gold chapters, steel hands, figures on dial defaced. Information to the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr, N. B. February 3, 1885. ( 30022 m.— 56316.) STOLEN from a dwelling- house in Tarbrax county on 2nd January, 1885, a black corded cloth overcoat, single- breasted,. two outside pockets in skirts with flaps, pocket on left breast, lined with black Italian lining, and sleeves with black and red striped lining, bound with fine braid ; a gray checked tweed vest, single- breasted, much worn; a dark checked wincey shirt; a light coloured moroon worsted cravat, with long fringes; a brown imitation sealskin cap with flaps. Wanted on the above charge, James Little:— Is a labourer, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5| inches high, round face, fresh complexion, large front teeth, stout build, light brown hair, and reddish whiskers. May be now wearing the stolen property. Accused was discharged, as medically unfit, from the Seaforth Highlanders on 19th April last, and was granted 7d. per day of pension. Information to Superintendent M'GILLIVRAY, Lanark. STOLEN on night of 17th January, 1885, by means of housebreaking from a colliery office in Cambus- lang county, entrance effected by breaking a pane of glass in the window, and undoing the snib :— A navy blue serge suit, consisting of shooting coat, vest, and trowsers, maker's name " Alexander Stewart, Glas- gow," on hanger of coat and buttons of trowsers ; a brown and black checked Scotch tweed jacket; a pair of trowsers of same material as jacket. Information to Chief Inspector CARMICHAEL, Hamilton. ( 30036 m.— 56179.) WANTED at city of Edinburgh, charged with failing to report his change of residence, in terms of the conditions Of his licence :— Licence- holder G 970, Alfred Evans, alias Tommy Good- for- Nothing, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7J inches in height, well made, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, oval fice, slight rhoustache, otherwise shaved, scar right side of head, scar right knee, scar above right wrist, blue mark left forearm, and vaccination mark left arm. The above Alfred Evans was concerned in a large housebreaking and robbery at Blantyre, Lanarkshire, in 1880, and he may be again working in this county. ( 29777 M 55205.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. DESCRIPTION of James M'Kendry, native of Glen- one, county Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1884, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Portglenone, shot at and wounded David Megall:— Very flat- footed, holds his head towards the left side, coarse features, prominent upper teeth, heavy fair moustache, no beard or whiskers; small blue eyes, broad nose, fresh com- plexion, small round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 28 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray tweed coat and green cord trowsers; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Haber Knocbur, alias James Davis, native of Lancashire, who stands charged with hav- ing changed his residence from 22, Carrick- hill, in tho barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill. without notifying same, and failed to report himself since 17th December, 1881, he being a convict on licence :— Cut scar comer of right eye, top of 2nd and 8rd fingers of left hand injured blue eyes, fresh complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet inches high, about 37 years of age, light brown hair ; is a brick moulder. Michael Doyle ( charged with having feloniously obtained a letter from the Post Office, Carlow, the property of James Carey), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 28th October, 1884. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Reilly ( fictitious), native place unknown, and a man, name and native place unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 18th or morning of 19th December, 1884, in the baroDy of Clankee, parish of Knockbride, stolen a heifer, the property of Alice Hand, value £ 3 10s., and sold it in the fair of cootehill on the 19th inst. The heifer has been recovered :— 1. Slightly stooped shoulders, small side whiskers, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a low soft hat, bright tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest, and laced boots, toe of one broken. 2. Smooth face, no beard, gray eyes, regular nose, regular face, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 23 years of age; wore a bright tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest, and leggings. Michael Healy ( cattle stealing), not arrested ; Hue- and Cry, 1st April, 1884. Cork. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 3rd February, 1885, absconded from the St. Patrick's Reformatory School at Upton, co. Cork :— Patrick Buttler, 17 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, proportionate make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose, medium mouth; formerly belonged to Cappawhite, county Tipperary ; his parents resident Beggins. The school dress consists of corduroy trowsers and sleeved corduroy waistcoat, dark tweed coat, leather belt, blue striped shirt, all with Reformatory stamp ; Glengarry cap, and nailed boots fastened with leather straps. The mother of this boy is a blind woman, begging about the country, having three or four children along with her. Tho Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with XI. ( 30039 m.— 56344.) DESCRIPTION of Edward Sheehan, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of January, 1885, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Mallow, embezzled the sum of £ 23, the property of his employer, A. Arnott, Esquire, of Kilworth, county Cork:— Dark eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair, short side whiskers; wore a short gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; may wear short breeches with buttons; very smart active appearance; is a groom. The three persons, names and native places unknown ( charged with having robbed Thomas M'Grath), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd Septem- ber, 1884. Young offender, Michael Mahony, belonging to the eity of Cork, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 26th August, 1884. John Hogan ( manslaughter), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 12th August, 1884. Donegal. DESCRIPTION of two persons, supposed to be Michael Kelly and his wife, native places unknown, who stand charged on suspicion with having, on the night of 30th November, or morning of 1 st December, 1884, in the barony of Banagh, parish of Killaghtee, murdered one Bridget Cunningham:— 1. Swaggering gait, brown moustache, small side whiskers, brown eyes, regular nose, rather pale com- plexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, black hair, turning gray; wore a round black felt hat, old gray coat rather long, dark coloured trowsers; is an itinerant fiddler. 2. Blue eyes, long pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore an old dark gray shawl; is a tramp, and accompanies No. 1 from town to town. Hugh Mulholland, native of Carrickmannon, who, on the 14th July, 1884, left his home, in the barony of Castlerea, parish of Killinchy, and has not since been heard of; he is. of weak mind ; his friends would be thankful to the Police for any information about him ; Hue- and- Cry, 21 October, 1884. DESCRIPTION of Patrick M'Carthy and Kate M'Carthy, who. stand charged with having, on the 7th February, 1885, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Tully, stolen from the house of Mrs. Anne Doyle, Kerrymount, with whom they were lodging, the several articles of clothing described at foot: — 1. Woman tattooed on chest, and a sailor on one of his wrists, gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 28 years of age, fair hair and moustache; wore a black felt hat, black cloth coat, and light tweed trowsers; is a labourer. 2. Brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 24 years of age, brown hair; wore a black hat trimmed with red velvet, red dress, black jacket, and stolon boots ; is the wife of No. 1. Description of the property :— An oil coat, new, the property of the D. W. and W. Railway Company, No. 52 on ono of the skirts inside at corner, buttonholes and pockets cased with leather; a pair of woman's boats, laced, nearly new; a black shawl with silk fringe, new; a new plaid skirt, brown and black, with small crossbar; a black velvet lady's jacket, small, fits the waist tight, a maroon- coloured skirt, trimmed with black velvet; a small round coat ( man's), black serge; and a red carpet bag; all value for about £ 2 10s. Warrants for arrest of Patrick and Kate M'Carthy are in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Cabinteely. Dundrum, Feb. 10, 1885. ( 67107 c 17232.) Fermanagh. Mary Bligh, alias Lynch, native of Ballymoe, who disappeared from her home, in the barony of Bally- moe, parish of Drumatemple, on or about the 9th January, 1884, has not been since heard of; Hue- and- Cry, 28th March, 1884. Patrick Killeen ( assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 29th April, 1884. Martin Coleman ( sending threatening letters), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1st April, 1884. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of Cornelius Hunt, native of Car- hoocragh, who stands charged with having, on the 11th. day of January, 1885, in the barony of Irraghticonnor, parish of Knockanure, being found out of his abode, under sec. 11 of Prevention of Crime Act, and sentenced to 3 months' imprison- ment, which sentence was affirmed on appeal on 30th ultimo, but absconded before new Warrant was issued. Warrant now issued :— One tooth out of front of mouth in upper jaw, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 26 years of age, very fair hair; wore a black cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of James Comerford ( mother's sur- name Groody), native of Clough, county of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 26th Decem- ber, 1884, in the barony of Fassadinnen, parish of Castlecomer, assaulted John Kavanagh, of clough, by stabbing him in the face with a knife:— Blue mark under left eye, large black whiskers, ill- looking appearance; gray eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 48 years of age, black hair ; wore a black soft hat, black coat, trowsers, and vest; is a coal miner. DESCRIPTION of Martin Devine, native of Pros- perous, county Kildare, who stands charged with having, on the 4th February, 1885, in the barony of Ballycowen, parish of Kilbride, stabbed Bernard Dempsey, of Tullamore, in the neck with'a pen- knife :— Remarkable cast in one eye ( supposed left), gray eyes, regular nose, pale sallow complexion, broad round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, gray hair; wore a tweed cap with two peaks, blue jacket or frieze coat, and barrigan trowsers ; is a pump borer. DESCRIPTION of a dog, the property of John B. Collins, of Knocknasna, which was stolen from tho townland of Abbeyfeale, parish of Abbeyfeale, barony of Glenquin, on the 6th day of February, 1885:— A grayhound bitch, very rough hair, dark colour, ears drooped, top of nose white, top of tail white and turned to right side, about 16 months old, answers to the names of " Mary " and " Fly." DESCRIPTION of Luke Brody or Broder ( mother's surname Cunningham ( Clonlara, county Clare) ), native of Limerick city, who stands charged with having, on the 3lst January, 1885, in the borough of Limerick, parish of St. Tobias, dangerously assaulted Mary O'Neill, by striking her on the head with a tongs:— Gray eyes, long thin nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 48 years of age, dark hair turning gray ; wore a round jerry hat, tweed frock coat, old dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. Limerick, February 5, 1885. ( 67049 c.— 17145.) DESCRIPTION of a saddle, saddle cloth, stirrup irons, bridle, bridoon bit, girths, & c., the property of R. C. Langford, which were stolen from his harness room, parish of Kilmoylan, barony of Shanid, on the night of 26th January, 1885, viz.:— One saddle and saddle cloth ( leather), saddle only one year in use, no knee pads on flaps which are of leather, maker's name, Davis and Co.; two pairs of stirrup igAs, maker'g name, Davis and Co., on bottom of Sirups; one snaffle bridle, half worn ; one bridoon bi^ one driving bit, and three girths; all value for about £ 6 10s. Arthur M'Donagh and David Joyce, who stand charged with having, on the llth August, 1884, stolen a sum of money from the shop of Hugh Hogg, not arrested ; Hue- and- Ory, 29th August John M'Intyre, alias Chestnut, alias Sawers, de- scribed in English Police Gazette, December 14,1883, as a deserter ( horse stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 16th August, 1884. Longford. DESCRIPTION of James Kane, native of Dunboggan, who stands charged with having, on the night of 28rd December, 1884, in the baroDy of Longford, parish of Killoe, assaulted Patrick Hourican so as to endanger his life :— Walks erect, Yankee appearance, small dark moustache and " imperial," cheeks shaved j gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, pale complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark hair; wore a black coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a shoemaker. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Kerr, native of Bally- nacargey, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of December, 1884, in the barony of Moydow, parish of Killashee, embezzled certain sums of money ( amount unknown), the property of Mathew Davison, of Moate :— Has a small boil over one eye, hazel eyes, long nose, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard round black hat, striped Ulster coat, light trowsers, and brown vest; is a tea agent and shop assistant. DESCRIPTION of Isaac Fisher, native of Ballybay, who stands charged with having, on the morning of the 30th January, 1885, in the barony of Dartrey, parish of Aghabog, stolen out of the dwelling- house of John Richardson, of Drumbrain, where he was lodging, a Boston lever watch which has since been recovered:— Tatooed on both wrists, dark and tender eyes, thin nose, fair complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 28 or 30 years of age, dark brown hair, wears moustache; wore a low soft hat, gray frock coat, brown coloured trowsers and vest, and old boots; is a flax scutcher. May be wearing new dark tweed trowsers he bought in Clones. Served in the army, and is a militia man. Likely to be found working at some scutch mill in county Monaghan or neighbouring counties. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th February, 1885, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Nenagb, stolen from the lodging- house of Thomas Butler, of Nenagh ( the owner of the property), a whitish corduroy trowsers, new piece in bottom of each leg, a pair of bellows- tongued boots nearly new, a pair of gray worsted socks, a new flannel waistcoat, and 9s. 6d. in silver and coppers :— Fair complexion, thin hardy make, about 5 feet 6 inches high, about 65 years of age ; wore a blue coat, reddish tweed trowsers and vest; is a tramping vagrant. Anderson, alias M'Craynor ( mother's surname M'Craynor), native of Sixmilc- cross, who stands charged with having, on the 21st October and 6th November, 1884, in the barony of East Omagh, parish of Termonmaguirk, written and posted two threatening letters :— Carbuncles on face, square shoulders, smart active appearance; dark eyes, regular nose, pale sallow complexion, rather long face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, dark hair ; wore a round hard hat, blue serge coat, trowsers, and vest, much worn ; is a labourer. A Warrant is in the hands of the Constabulary at Beragh for his arrest. Beragh, January 13, 1885. ( 66774 o 16719.) DESCRIPTION of clothing, the property of James Gainford and Thomas Dunne, which were stolen from a room over a stable at Knockmore, in which they were sleeping, on the night of the 9th or morning of the 10th January, 1885, in the parish of Rossdriot, and barony of Bantry:— An old light tweed coat and vest, a dark gray tweed trowsers, a corduroy trowsers, a black bard hat, a black hairy cap, a pair of nailed highlows, a pair of shoes, a pair of red and black suspenders, a blue pilot sack coat, a pair of red and white suspenders, and a brown tweed striped trowsers ; all value for about £ 1. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on tho 29th December, 1884, at Clorogemore, in the barony of Scarawalsh, parish of Templeshambo, fired at and wounded John Murphy, gamekeeper :— Brown eyes, slightly cocked nose, sandy or fair complexion, round full face, medium make, active appearance, about 5 feet 8 inches high, about 32 years of age, light or brown hair; wore a soft hat, old faded or dirty tweed clothes, and in the coat there was a grayish stripe; is a poacher. This man was poaching when he fired the shot, and was accompanied by another man about the same age and size, and somewhat similarly dressed. They had with them a red setter, with white muzzle, and tip of tail believed to be white, and a black dog, supposed a cross between a pointer and grayhound.
