DUBLIN, FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 1885. ENGLISH POLICE. SCOTTISH POLICE. NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY. WASTED at Hexham, for obtaining money on the 27th ult. by false pretences, John Campbell :— States he is a farmer, about 60 jears of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, brown liair and whiskers mixed with gray, dark eyes, fresh complexion, ordinary figure, Scotch dialect; wants fore and little fingers of right hand; dressed in home- spun tweed cloth, colour nearly black ; wore a plaid round liis shoulders fastened with a pin in front, black felt hat, and lace- up boots. He was convicted in Ayrshire in 1 » 74, in the name of M'Culloch, fer fraud, and is supposed to have been since convicted of fraud in \ Vigton- shire and Dublin ; was discharged from custody in Ireland in July, 1876, in the name of Robert Craig, alias Gray, alias M'Culloch; was wanted for fraud in Kirkcudbrightshire in 18H0, and in Cumberland in 1883. WANTED in this borough, on Warrant, for stealing .£ 40, a cheque for which amount he was sent to cash, Owen Clarke ( supposed fictitious), a sergeant of Her Majesty's South Staffordshire Regiment:— About 34 years of age, 5 leet 7 inches high, stout build, fallow complexion, brown hair, slight light moustache ; turns his toes outwards when walking ; a native of Bailieborough," county Cavan ; dressed in dark tweed suit, light tweed overcoat, elastic- side boots, and soft felt hat. Kindly cause inquiries to be made at shipping offices, outgoing steamers, and other likely places, as it is supposed that he will endeavour to emigrate. ** Information to this office. M.. on 23r< l instant, the following articles :— Gold bracelet, diamond half set; pearl bracelet, diamond lialf set; diamond ear- rings, shape of stars ; arrow brooch, set with pearls and diamonds ; garni t brooch and necklet, with pendant; gold necklet and locket, initials " P. S.," turquoise centre; two gold lady's rings ; two silver bracelets, which form a neck let when joined; two pairs of gold ear- rings and locket with gold back, containing the photo, of a lady; three brooches, s* ot with small pearls; silver bracelet, ivy leaf filigree; lady's gold watch, en- graved cases, gold dial; gold Albert chain, sma 1 knob pattern, with locket and charms, containing the photo, of a gentleman. The above reward will be paid on recovery ot jewellery, and conviction of thief or thieves, or in proportion to amount recovered. Pawnbrokers and others are requested to examine their stock, and if any of the above have been pledged or sold, communicate with Mr. Superinten- dent A. Licence- holder Patrick Murphy, described in Hue- and- Cry of 10th of last June, has not been arrested. BURGH OF GOVAN POLICE. THEFT OF £ 65, < fcc. WANTED here on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with the theft of £ 65, consisting of thirty £ 1 notes, sixty- six half- sovereigns, and two sovereigns; a black silk dress, trimmed with brocaded satin and two rows of steel buttons down front, deep plaiting on skirt; a brown sealskin muff, a brown silk umbrella with silver handle, a red knitted shawl, and a white fl- nnel p^ t'ieoat, from the house of Sarah Moffat or Wood, at 24, Carmiehael- street, here, on 17th inst., where she was employed as a servant, Rose Ann Dunlop, alias Murray:— About 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 or < i inches in height, stout made, fair hair cut short in front, full face, fresh complexion ; dressed in a black velvet hat with bla: k feather, black cloth jacket ( tight- fitting), black dress, and carried an oval- shaded brown bonnet box; was convicted of theft, before the Southern Police Court, Glasgow, in April laofr; wrn agaiu- c- mvioted of Hfe « ft of £?> 0 and other pf'dpSrty ift " Stirling, in May last. On that occa » iou die was arrested in Greenock on her- way to Belfast. Has two uncles in Govan. Her father is a labourer at Craigbellv estate, Ballymena. May be accompanied by a young man, whose description has uot been obtained. Absconded at 9 P. M. on Saturday last, 17th January current. All were newly dipped, and marked with red keel on top of shoulders. They were in lean condition. The heifer has been recovered:— 1. Slightly stooped shoulders, small side whiskers, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a low softhat, bright tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest, and laced boots, toe of one broken. 2. Smooth face, no beard, gray eyes, regular nose, regular faco, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 23 years of age; wore a bright tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest, and leggings. DESCRIPTION of Patrick M'Mahon, native of Kilrush, who stands charged/ with having, on the 25th December, 1884, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, committed a rape:— Tattooed on right wrist; and good- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 28 or 2? years of age, dark brown hair; wore a cap with straight peak, old dark cloth coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a shoemaker. DESCRIPTION of Joseph Gaynor ( mother's surname Hartstonge), native of Newtownshandrum, who stands charged with having, on the 12th day of January, 1885, in the barony of Orrery and Kilmore, parish of Shandrum, been one of a party who broke the windows of tho National School of Newtown- sbandrum :— Brown eyes, regular nose, pale com- plexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 17 years of age, dark hair; wore a two- peaked bitght tweed cap, dark brown sack coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a farm labourer. charleville, Jan. 17, 1885. DESCRIPTION of two grayhounds, the property of William Cashman, which were stolen from his residence at Rathfilode, parish of Kilquane, barony of Barrymore, and county of Cork, on night of 5th January, 1885 :— 1. Black bitch, breast and feet white, patch of rough hair on left hip caused by a scald, 3 years old, answers to the name of " Fly." 2. Young offender, Michael Mahony, belonging to the city of Cork, not arrested; Huc- and- Cry, 26th August, 1884. John Hogan ( manslaughter^, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 12th August, 1884. Donegal. DESCRIPTION of two persons, supposed to be Michael Kelly and his wife, native places unknown, who stand charged on suspicion with having,- on the night of 30th November, or morning of 1st December, 1884, in the barony of Banagh, parish of Killaghtee, murdered one Bridget Cunningham:— 1. Swaggering gait, brown moustache, small side whiskers, brown eyes, regular nose, rather pale com- plexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, black hair, turning gray ; wore a round black felt hat, old gray coat rather long, dark coloured trowsers is; anitinerant fiddler. 2. Blue eyes, long pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore an old dark gray shawl; is a tramp, and accompanies No. 1 from town to town. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Foy, alias Thomas Ker- rigan ( mother's surname Kerrigan), native of Cross- avenue, Kingstown, who stands charged > vith having, on the 16th January, 1885, in the barony of Bal- rotbery East, parish of Lusk, attempted to commit larceny from the person on the high road, and has been remanded for inquiry for eight days, as it is supposed he may have committed an offence else- where :— Old cut mark under right eye, tattoo marks on bacjc of hands; brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, slight make, 5 feet 6^ inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair cut short, has a tuft of beard oh cliift, arid moustache, cheeks closely shaven; wore an" old yellow tweed coat, patched trowsers torn at end, and dark tweed vest; no trade ; is a tramp. DESCRIPTION of James Comerford ( mother's sur- name Groody), native of Clough, county of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 26th Decem- ber, 1884, in the barony of Fassadinnen, parish of Castlecomer, assaulted John Kavanagh, of Clough, by stabbing him in the face with a knife:— Blue mark under left eye, large black whiskers, ill- looking appearance; gray eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, full face, stout make, 3 feet 11 inches high, about 48 years of age, black half : wore a black soft hat, black coat, trowsers, and vest.; is a coal miner. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Bergin, native of Ballincur, who stands charged with having, on the 27th day of October, 1884, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Kinnetty, seriously assaulted John Mooney, and, being out on bail, foiled to come up for trial on 23rd instant:— Generally keeps his hands in his trowsers' pockets, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 25 years of age, brown hair ; wore a low black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Limerick; DESCRIPTION of John Daly, native of cahir, county Tipperary, who stands chargcd with having, on tho 3oth day of December, 1884, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, unlawfully absconded from the employment of his employer, William M'Namara, of Barrack- street, Cahir, county Tipperary, and did unlawfully embezzle and. carry away certain moneys, amounting to about £ 2 13s. 11< 7., the pro- perty of the said William M'Namara, at Galbally, in the county of Limerick :— Has a peculiar expression abo^ it the eyes, and appears to have bad sight in one eye; small dark eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, thin face, medium make, 9 feet 4 inches high, about 26 year. t^ if age, dark hair; wore a small round hat, gray tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers, and no vest; was employed driving a porter van, and collected money for his employer; is a labourer ( van driver). Patrick Slattery ( robbery of a watch and money), the watch has been recovered and restored to the owner, but Slattery is still at large; Hue- and- Cry, 21st November, 1881. Daniel Hayes ( assault endangering life), not arrested-; Hue- and- Ory, 18th November, 1884. Martin Lonergan ( rape), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 4th November, 1884. DESCRIPTION of Bernard Dempsey, naiive of Bally- glass, Dungiven, who stands charged with having, ott the I Otli December, 1884, in the barony of Coleraine, parish of Errigal, committed a rape on t^ e person of Anne Dempsey, his niece:— Bather bow legged, bald on top of head, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, oval face, medium make. 5 feet 7 inches high, about 55 years of age, brown hfiir turning gray; respectably dressed, wears silver ring on right little finger; is a farmer and rent warner. Arthur M'Donagh and David Joyce, who stand charged with having, oh the 11th August, 1884, stolen a sum of money from the shop of Hugh Hogg, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 29th August. John M'Intyre, alias Chestnut, alias Sawers, de- scribed in English Police Gazette, December 14,1883, as a deserter ( horse stealing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 15th August, 1894. DESCRIPTION of James Kane, native of Dunboggan, who stands charged with having, on the night of 23rd December, 1884, in the barony of Longford, parish of Killoe, assaulted Patrick Hourican so as to endanger his life :— Walks erect, Yankee appearance, small dark moustaclic and " imperial," cheeks shaved ; gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, pale complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches liigh, about 32 years of age, dark hair; wore a black cpat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a shoemaker. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Kerr, native of Bally- naeargcy, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of' December, 1881, in the barony of Moydow, parish of Killashee, embezzled certain sums of money ( amount unknown), the property of Mathew Davison, of Moate :— Has a small boil over one eye, hazel eyes, long nose, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore a bard round black hat, striped Ulster coat, I'gbt trowsers, and brown vest; is a tea agent and shop assistant. ( 66562 c.— 16361.) * R DESCRIPTION of Mary Bergin ( mother's name Margaret Devaney), native of Granard, who stands charged with having failed to surrender herself for trial at Longford Quarter Sessions, on 31st October, 1884. This woman is probably in one of the northern counties. Her occupation is most likely that of a prostitute:— Dark eyes, small cocked nose, pale complexion, round face, medium make, 4 feet 8 inchcs high, about 18 years of age, dark hair; is a servant girl or prostitute. DESCRIPTION of two asses, the property of Thomas Clarke, which were stolen from the lands of Neiltown, parish of Ardbraccan, and barony of Lower Navan, on the 4th January, 1885 :— 1. Anderson, alias M'Craynor ( mother's surname M'Craynor), native of Sixmile- cross, whn stands charged with having, on the 21st October and 6th November, 1834, in the barony of East Omagh, parish of Termonmaguirk, written and posted two threatening letters:— Carbuncles on face, square shoulders, smart active appearance; dark eyes, regular nose, pale sallow complexion, rather long face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a round hard hat, blue serge coat, trqwsers, and vest, much worn ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of John Hackett ( Ned) ( mother's surname Treanor), native of Aghamilkin, who stands charged with having on the 3rd December, 1881, in the barony ol Clogher, parish of Erigle Keeroghe, townland of Cullenbrone, assaulted James Donnelly, of Tamneymore, so as to endanger his life, by striking him on the head with a stone, causing a fracture of the frontal bone:— Blue eyes, sharp nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about U7 years of age, looks younger, dark hair, wore small dark side whiskers and moustache ; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Sarah O'Neill, native of Lisna- gowan, near Carland, who stands charged with having, on the 4th December, 1884, in the barony of Middle Dungannon, parish of Donaghmore, concealed the birth of her illegitimate child, the body of whom was found by the Police buried in her father's garden, on 23rd instant:— Delicate appearance, has not proper use of one arm, dark eyes, straight nose, pale com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown hair ( wore fringe); wore a brown hat, brown Ulster coat, and dark green dress ; is a labourer's daughter. DESCRIPTION of a diamond ring, the property of Mrs. Mary Disney, which was stolen from her residence, North Gate- street, Athlone, parish of St. Mark's, and barony of Brawney, on 1st January, 1885 :— A diamond ring, with eight small diamonds in a circle, and large One in centre, forming a star, set in gold with chased side ; value for £ 10. " Wexford, DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th December, 1884, at Clorogemore, in the barony of Scarawalsh, parish of Templeshambo, fired at and wounded John Murphy, gamekeeper :— Brown eyes, slightly cocked nose, sandy or fair complexion, round full face, medium make, active appearance, about 5 feet 8 inches high, about 32 years of age, light or brown hair ; wore a soft hat, old faded or dirty tweed clothes, and in the coat there was a grayish stripe; is a poacher. This man was poaching when he fired the shot, and was accompanied by another man about the same age and size, and somewhat similarly dressed. They had with them a rod setter, with white muzzle, and tip of tail believed to be white, and a black dog, supposed a cross between a pointer and grayhound. These men are supposed to he natives of the county of Carlow. Enniscorthy, Jan. 3, 1885. ( 66612 c — 16516.) The two men, names and native place? unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 31st August, 1884, on Clorogemore Mountain, fired at and wounded John Jordan, assistant gamekeeper, have not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 9th September, 1884. Wicklow, DESCRIPTION of Michael Flanagan and William Connor, native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 12th instant, at Laregh, in the barony of Ballinacor, parish of Derrylossery, broken open a vacant dwelling- house, and did tear up, damage, and destroy a timber partition in said dwelling- house, and were burning same when arrested by the Police ; supposed may have com- mitted offences elsewhere :— ' 1. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 23 years of age, black hair cut short; wore a black cloth cap with peak, black cloth jack coat, gray tweed trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a tramp. 2. Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 18 years of age, fair hair; wore an old round hard hat, old dark tweed coat, barragan trowsers, and old dark tweed vest; is a tramp.
