DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 1885. ENGLISH POLICE. WANTED in this borough, on Warrant, for stealing .£ 40, a cheque for which amount he was sent to cash, Owen Clarke ( supposed ' fictitious), a sergeant of Her Majesty's South Staffordshire Regiment:— About 84 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, sallow complexion, brown hair, slight light moustache; turns his toes outwards when walking; a native of Bailieborougli, county Cavan ; dressed in dark tweed suit, light tweed overcoat, elastic- side boots, and soft felt hat. Kindly cause inquiries to be made at shipping offices, outgoing steamers, and other likely places, as it is supposed that he will endeavour to emigrate. Information to this office. Detective Department, Town Hall, Salford, January 3, 1885. ( 29932 v.— 56014.) £ 10 REWARD. STOLEN from the dwelling- house of a gentleman at Moseley, by house- breaking, between 7. and 8 30 P. M., on 23rd instant, the following articles :— Gold bracelet, diamond half set; pearl bracelet, diamond half set; diamond ear- rings, shape of stars ; arrow brooch, set with pearls and diamonds ; garnet brooch and necklet, with pendant;, gold necklet and locket, initials " P. S.," turquoise centre; two gold lady's rings ; two silver bracelets, which form a neck- let when joined; two pairs of gold eav- rings and locket with gold back, containing the photo, of a lady; three brooches, set with small pearls; silver bracelet, ivy leaf tiligree; lady's gold watch, en- graved cases, gold dial; gold Albert chain, small knob pattern, with locket and charms, containing the photo, of a gentleman. The above reward will be paid on recovery of jewellery, and conviction of thief or thieves, or in proportion to amount recovered. Pawnbrokers and others are requested to examine their stock, aud if any of the above have been pledged or sold, communicate with Mr. Superinten- dent A. Licence- holder Patrick Murphy, described in Hue- and- Cry of 10th of last June, has not been arrested. SCOTTISH POLICE. PERTHSHIRE CONSTABULARY. STOLEN, between 17th and 35th November, 1884, from Auchnahosher Hill, in the parish of Dowally, • and county of Perth, eighteen blackfaced wethers, viz., eight one- year- old, and ten two- year- old, and marked as follows ;— Lugmarks— Fork on near lug, and nip above far lug- Hornburn— The letters A B B on right horn of the one- year- old, and on left horn of the two- year- old, also the figure 3 ( denoting year of birth) on left horn of the one- year- old, and the figure 2 on right horn of the two- year- old. Buist— The letter T in tar on left side ( may now be invisible). All were newly dipped, and marked with red keel on top of shoulders. They were in lean condition. The Police are requested to make particular search and inquiry at auction sales, railway stations, graziers, shepherds, and others, for the above- described sheep, and forward any information obtained to the subscriber. STOLEN, by means of housebreaking, early this morning, from a general dealer's shop in Motherwell, in this county— entrance- effected by forcing a shutter off a back window, undoing the snib, and raising the window:— Watches— eleven silver; two hunting Genevas, old, and without glasses, one wants the rim for glass; five Genevas, white dials, black chapters, and steel hands— two with flat glasses, one with round glass, and one old without the glass; three Boston levers, two having German silver rims, silver dials, and black chapters ( one No. 968,482), and one new with white dial ( No. 14,654); one. lever, white dial, black chapters, carved cases, with gold garter on back ( No. 39,445). Other numbers not known. Alberts— four silver— one curb pattern, one long- link pattern, the other two cannot be described. Seals— six or seven silver; some Victoria and St. Andrew's Cross patterns, the others round, and all having compass in ceDtre. Ear- ririgs— seven pairs gold; three pairs 9- carnt, round, small drop shape, one pair plain three linked pattern, and three pairs 9- carat, with pendant imitation of steamboat steering wheel. Rings— nineteen ladies' gold ; four common keeper, 9- carat; fourteen stone rings— five or six 15- carat, one with three pearls, the others pearls and rubies, eight 9- carat set wiili four or five pearls each, one of them extra large size; and one old, carved and set with rubies, two or three of the stones awanting. Ring c* se— a brown morocco, eight inches by tour inches, lined with white sa'in ; holds twenty- four rings. Brooch— a gold oval, sma l size, having ihree bright stones in centre, voney— four pounds ten shillings, consisting of one pound note ( Bank of Scotland), one half- sovereign, and the remainder in silver. Special search and inquiry is requested of pawn- brokers, brokers, watchmakers, jewellers, and others for the above property, and the thief or thieves, and any information obtained to be communicated by telegram or otherwise to the undersigned. DESCRIPTION of James M'Kendry, native of Glen- one, county Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1884, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Portglenone, shot at and wounded David Megall:— Very flat- footed, holds his head towards the left side, coarse features, prominent upper teeth, heavy fair moustache, no beard or whiskers ; small blue eyes, broad nose, fresh com- plexion, small round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 28 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray tweed coat and green cord trowsers; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Reilly ( fictitious), native place unknown, and a man, name and native place unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 18th or morning of 19th December, 1884, in the barony of Clankee, parish of Knockbride, stolen THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, JANUARY 20, 1885. a heifer, the property of Alice Hand, value £ 3 10s., and sold it in the fair of cootehill on the 19th inst. The heifer has been recovered:— 1. Slightly stooped shoulders, small side whiskers, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a low soft hat, bright tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest, and laced boots, toe of one broken. 2. Smooth face, no beard, gray eyes, regular nose, regular face, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 23 years of age; wore a bright tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest, and leggings. DESCRIPTION of Patrick M'Mahon, native of Kilrush, who stands charged with having, on the 25th December, 1884, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliffe, committed a rape:— Tattooed on right wrist, and good- looking, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 0 inches high, about 28 or 29 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a cap with straight peak, old dark cloth coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a shoemaker. DESCRIPTION of two persons, supposed to be Michael Kelly and his wife, native place- unknown, who stand charged on suspicion with having, on the night of 30th November, or morning of 1st December, 1884, in the barony of Banagh, parish of Killaghtee, murdered one Bridget Cunningham:— 1. Swaggering gait, brown moustache, small side whiskers, brown eyes, regular nose, rather pale com- plexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, black hair, turning gray; wore a round black felt hat, old gray coat rather long, dark coloured trowsers is; anitinei ant fiddler. 2. Blue eyes, long pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore an old dark gray shawl; is a tramp, and accompanies No. 1 from town to town. DESCRIPTION of Denis Reardon ( mother's surname Purcell), native of Ballyfinane, county Kerry, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of December, 1884, in the. barony of Dunkerron North, parish of Tuagb, stolen from a press in the dwelling- house of his master, Eugene Mangan, a five pound bank note ( No. not known), also a tweed trowsers and vest, and a black felt hat:— Dark brown eyes, broad nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 or 23 years of age, fair hair; wore a black felt hat, dark tweed coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; tattooed with the letters " D. DESCRIPTION of James Comerford / mother's sur- name Groody), native of Clough, county of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 26tli Decem- ber, 1884, in the barony of Fassadinnen, parish of Castlecomer, assaulted John Kavanagh, of Clough, by stabbing him in the face with a knife:— Blue mark under left eye, large black whiskers, ill- looking appearance; gray eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 48 years of age, black hair ; wore a black soft hat, black coat, trowsers, and vest; is a coal miner. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Bergin, native of Ballincur, who stands charged with having, on the 27th day of October, 1884. in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Kinnetty, seriously assaulted John Mooney, and, being out on bail, failed to come up for trial on 23rd instant:— Generally keeps his hands in his trowsers' pockets, gray eyes, regular nose, tresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 25 years of age, brown hair ; wore a low black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 30th day of December, 1884, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Galbally, unlawfully absconded from the employment of his employer, William M'Namara, of Barrack- street, Cahir, county Tipperary, and did unlawfully embezzle and carry away certain moneys, amounting to about £ 2 13s. llrf., the pro- perty of the said William M'Namara, at Galbally, in the county of Limerick :— Has a peculiar expression about the eyes, and appears to have bad sight in one eye; small dark eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark hair; wore a small round hat, gray tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers, and no vest; was employed driving a porter van, and collected money for his employer; is a labourer ( van driver). DESCRIPTION of James Kane, native of Dunboggan, who stands charged with having, on the night of 23rd December, 1884, in the baroDy of Longford, parish of Killoe, assaulted Patrick Hourican so as to endanger his life :— Walks erect, Yankee appearance, small dark moustache and " imperial," cheeks shaved; gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, pale complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark hair; wore a black coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a shoemaker. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Kerr, native of Bally- naeargey, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of December, 1884, in the barony of Moydow, parish of Killashee, embezzled certain sums of money ( amount unknown), the property of Mathew Davison, of Moate :— Has a small boil over one eye, hazel eyes, long nose, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard round black hat, striped Ulster coat, light trowsers, and brown vest; is a tea agent and shOp assistant. DESCRIPTION of Mary Bergin ( mother's name Margaret Devaney), native of Granard, who stands charged with having failed to surrender herself for trial at Longford Quarter Sessions, on 31st October, 1884. This woman is probably in one of the northern counties. Her occupation is most likely that of a prostitute;— Dark eyes, small cocked nose, pale complexion, round face, medium make, 4 feet 8 inches high, about 18 years of age, dark hair; is a servant girl or prostitute. DESCRIPTION of John O'Brien, native of county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the night of 22nd December, 1884, in the barony of Clondonagh, parish of Eirk, broken into the dwelling- house of Mary Brophy, and robbed her of the sum of 17*.:— Broad square shoulders, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, shaves all his face except moustache ; wore a soft hat, frieze coat,' cord trowsers ; is a tramp and labourer. DESCRIPTION of a dog, the property of Michael Cross, which was stolen from his father's house at Gurteendevane, parish of Donohill, barony of Clan- william, and county of Tipperary, on the night of the 1st January, 1886:— A grayhound dog, brindle colour, top of tail white, burn mark on right hip, about 2 feet 3 inches in height, and about 4 feet in length, answers to the name of " Sport," in good condition ; value for about £ H. Anacarty, January 8, 1885. ( 66765 c.-- 16674.) John Keating ( charged with serious assault by stabbing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 9th De- cember, 1884. The articles of plate and plated ware stolen from the residence of the Rev. H. Palmer, Tubrid, near Cahir, which was broken into on the night of 8th or morning of the 9th November, have not been \ ecovered ; Hue- and- Cry, 14th November, 1884. Anderson, alias M'Craynor ( mother's surname M'Craynor), native of Sixmile- cross, whr> stands charged with having, on the 21st October and 6th November, 1884, in the barony of East Omagh, parish of Termonmaguirk, written and posted two threatening letters:— Carbuncles on face, square shoulders, smart active appearance; dark eyes, regular nose, pale sallow complexion, rather long face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a round hard hat, blue serge coat, trowsers, and vest, much worn ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of John Hackett ( Ned) ( mother's surname Treanor), native of Aghamilkin, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd December, 1881, in the barony of Clogher, parish of Erigle Keeroghe, townland of Cullenbrone, assaulted James Donnelly, of Tamneymore, so as to endanger his life, by striking him on the head with a stone, causing a fracture of the frontal bone:— Blue eyes, sharp nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 27 years of age, looks younger, dark hair, wore small dark side whiskers and moustache ; is a farmer. DESCRIPTION of Sarah O'Neill, native of Lisna- gowan, near Carland, who stands charged with having, on the 4th December, 1884, in the barony of Middle Dungannon, parish of Donaghmore, concealed the birth of her illegitimate child, the body of whom was found by the PoliceJjjj^^^^^^ fhther's garden, on 23rd instant:— Delicate appearance, has not proper use of one arm, dark eyes, straight nose, pale com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown hair ( wore fringe); wore a brown hat, brown Ulster coat, and dark green dress ; is a labourer's daughter. DESCRIPTION1 of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th December, 1884, at Clorogemore, in the barony of Scarawalsh, parish of Templeshambo, fired at and wounded John Murphy, gamekeoper :— Brown eyes, slightly cocked nose, sandy or fair complexion, round full face, medium make, active appearance, about 6 feet 8 inches high, about 32 years of age, light or brown hair; wore a soft hat, old faded or dirty tweed clothes, and in the coat there was a grayish stripe; is a poacher. This man was poaching when he fired the shot, and was accompanied by another man about the same a ® e and size, and somewhat similarly dressed. They had with them a red setter, with white muzzle, and tip of tail believed to bo white, and a black dog, supposed a cross between a pointer and grayhound. These men are supposed to be natives of the county of Carlow. Enniscorthy, Jan. 3, 1885. ( 66612 c — 10516.) The two men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 31 st August, 1884, on Clorogemore Mountain, fired at and wounded John Jordan, assistant gamekeeper, have not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 9th September, 1884. DESCRIPTION of Michael Flanagan and William Connor, native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 12th instant, at Laragh, in the barony of Ballinacor, parish of Derrylossery, broken open a vacant dwelling- house, and did tear up, damage, and destroy a timber partition in said dwelling- house, and were burning same when arrested by the Police ; supposed may have com- mitted offences elsewhere:— 1. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 23 years of age, black' hair cut short; wore a black cloth cap with peak, black cloth jack coat, gray tweed trowser?, and dark tweed vest; is a tramp. 2. Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 18 years of age, fair hair; wore an old round hard hat, old dark tweed coat, barragan trowsers, and old dark tweed vest; is a tramp.
