APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. IDENTIFICATION OF BODIES. UNCLAIMED The attention of the Editor has been directed to the want of any system existing for the publication of descriptions of dead bodies coming into the hands of Police, and which are buried without having been iden- tified. It having been suggested that the particulars should be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, the Editor will be glad to print any information which it may be considered desirable to publish. IDENTIFICATION OF PRISONERS. The Editor desires to call attention to the fact that all photographs of prisoners in custody, trans- mitted to the Convict Branch of the Metropoli- tan Police Office, for purposes of identification, are seen by the police and warders who visit all prisoners under remand, in the Metropolitan Police District three times a week. This system, esta- blished in 1879, has been the means of ascertaining the previous convictions of 7000 prisoners, and affords great facilities to Chief Officers of Police, and the Governors of Her Majesty's Prisons. Such photographs are also compared with the albums in the Convict Office con- taining the portraits of all Convicts liberated in the Kingdom, which are further open to the personal examination of any police officer or warder. There has been a kind of stock- taking, a desire to know how we stand. In God's Word we find much said about numbers and about value. He Him- self is a good accountant. Let us see what He thinks worth while to count. 1. He counts the stars— Psalm cxlvii. 4— and so values the world that He hasmadethat when one was lost, He so loved that world as to give His only Son to save it. 2. He counts His people- Psalm lxxxvii. 6.— missing one, He is content to leave ninety and nine, until He find it, and upon « ach soul He sets the same value as upon the whole world. " He loved me and gave Himself for me." 3. He counts the members of Christ, and calls them His jewels— Mai. iii- 17. 4. He counts our steps. How many have you taken 1 10,000 every five or six miles of actual steps. And in life / false steps, wrong steps, steps that slipped back, that climbed forward. Not one can be effaced ; it is not a little matter. 5. He counts the hairs of our heads, a figurative expression conveying a literal truth. In the sale of two farthings' worth of sparrows He noticed that one was " thrown in." Not one is for- gotten before God— Matt. x. 29, Luke xii. 6. We only count what is of interest and value ; so does God. 6. He counts our tears— Psalm lvL 8— of joy, of sorrow, of repentance, and He Himself will wipe them away. 7. He counts our services — Matt, x, 42.— When the two mites were dropped into the treasury He heard the clink, and knows how much we do, and of what sort it is. Be not deceived ; God cannot be.
