IDENTIFICATION OF UNCLAIMED BODIES. The attention of the Editor has been directed to the want of any system existing for the publication of descriptions of dead bodies coming into the hands of Police, and which are buried without having been iden- tified. It having been suggested that the particulars should be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, the Editor will be glad to print any information which it may be considered desirable to publish. IDENTIFICATION OF PRISONERS, mitt The Editor desires to call attention to the fact all photographs of prisoners in custody, trans- to the Convict Branch of the Metropoli- tan Ptjice Office, for purposes of identification, are seeiK by the police and warders who visit all prisoners under remand, in the Metropolitan Police IJistrict three times a week. This system, esta- blished in 1879, has been the means of ascertaining the previous convictions of 7000 prisoners, and affords great facilities to Chief Officers of Police, and the Governors ol Her Majesty s Prisons. Sueh photographs are also compared with the albums in the Convict Office con- taining the portraits of all Convicts liberated in the JVmgdoiB, which are further open to the personal examination of any police officer or warder. " It is remarkable that the question of every Oriental the moment he begins to speak about reli- gion, is, ' Teach us how to pray.' The very names employed by Eastern nations to express the idea of prayer are remarkable. ' Tephile,' says the Jew, which means ' the stammering of the helpless child.' Solao,' says the Arabian, which paeans ' thebursting forth of a boiling heart.' ' Nemano,' says the Persian, which means ' the soul in converse with God.' And there is a most remarkable word in Chaldean which means ' a ladder upon which the soul ascends to God.' I will never forget that holy and enlightened man, the Archbishop of the Jacobites in Nineveh. He said, ' Prayer is a golden chain which is let down by God from Heaven, upon which the soul of man is drawn up to God.' This was his definition of Prayer." " Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before Thee, and God said, As for Ishmael, I have heard thee."— Gen. xvii. 18, 20. " Moses said unto the Lord, Show me now Thy way ... and the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken."— Exod. xxxiii. 13, 17. " The Lord appeared to Solomon, and said, Ask what I shall give thee And Solomon said, Give thy servant an understanding heart And God said unto him, Behold, I have done according to thy words ; lo, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked."— 1 Kings iii. 5, 9, 12, 13. " And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh, that Thou wouldst bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Thine Hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldst keep me from evil that it may not grieve mfc ! And God granted him that which he requested."— 1 Chron. iv. 10. ENAMELLED IRON CABMEN'S BADGES; CAB NUMBERS, CAB FARE PLATES. NUMBERS FOR DOOR, do. o " POLICE STATION" PLATES.
