IDENTIFICATION OF PRISONERS. AYRSHIRE. MURDER, £ 10 0 REWARD 1.- The Editor desires to call attention to the fact that all photographs of prisoners in custody, trans- mitted to the Convict Branch of the Metropoli- tan Police Office, for purposes of identification, are seen by the police or warders who visit all prisoners under remand, in the Metropolitan Police District three times a week. This system, esta- blished in 1879, has been the means of ascertaining the previous convictions of 7000 prisoners, and affords great facilities to Chief Officers of Police, and the Governors - of Her Majesty's Prisons. Such photographs are also - compared with the albums in the Convict Office con- taining the portraits of all Convicts liberated in the Kingdom, which are further open to the personal • examination of any police officer or warder. IDENTIFICATION OF BODIES. UNCLAIMED The attention of the Editor has been directed to the want of any system existing for the publication of descriptions of dead bodies coming into the hands of Police, and which are buried without having been iden- tified. It having been suggested that the particulars should be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, the Editor will be glad to print any information which it may* be • considered desirable to publish.
