IDENTIFICATION OF PRISONERS. AYRSHIRE . MURDER, ,£ 100 REWARD 1. The Editor desires to call attention to the fact that all photographs of prisoners in custody, transmitted to the Director of Criminal Investigations, for purposes of identification are seen by the police or warders who visit all prisoners under remand, in the Metropolitan Police District three times a week. This system, esta- blished in 1879, has been the means of ascertaining the previous convictions of 7000 prisoners, and affords great facilities to Chief Officers of Police, and the Governors of Her Majesty's Prisons. Such photographs are also compared with the albums in the Convict Office con- taining the portraits of all Convicts liberated in the Kingdom, which are further open to the personal examination of any police officer or warder. IDENTIFICATION OF BODIES. UNCLAIMED The attention of the Editor has been directed to the want of any system existing for the publication of descriptions of dead bodies coming into the hands of Police, and which are buried without having been iden- tified. It having been suggested that the particulars should be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, the Editor will be glad to print any information which it may be considered desirable to publish. " EAT YE THAT WHICH IS BOOD/'- i^ v. 2 Not a very needful injunction when our bodies are concerned ! What should we think of anyone who, with " that which is good" spread out before him, persists in eating nothing, or in eating something which is not food— which is not even pleasant to taste 1 Not right in his mind, surely ! And yet, when our soul's nourishment is concerned, the injunction is needed. In God's Word, that faithful mirror of our- selves, what do we find man choosing 1 In Proverbs xv. we read of some who " feed on foolishness" ; in Hosea iv. of some who feed on wind ;" in Isaiah xliv. of one who " feeds on ashes." No wonder that Micah adds, " Thou shalt eat and not be satisfied!" The Prodigal fed on husks, and only when " he came to himself^' did he remember that in the Father's House could be found " that which was good " to eat. In that Father's House is still " bread enough and to spare." Our God prepares a great feast, bids many, would even have us compelled to come. To our first parents He said, " Ye may freely eat;" to us He says, " Eat, O friends, drink abundantly." " Arise and eat." " Eat of My bread." " Thou shalt eat bread at My table continually— as one of the King's sons." When on earth He fed the multitude, each one had " as much as he would." " Blessed are they which do hunger; •" who are deaf to the enemy's whisper that there is not leisure so much as to eat; who resemble the one of old, who " did eat bread continually, his allowance a continual allowance given him of the King, a. daily rate for every day all the days of his life."— 1 Kings xxv. 30.
