IDENTIFICATION OF PRISONERS. AYRSHIRE MURDER, <£ 100 REWARD 1.- The Editor desires to call attention to the fact that all photographs of prisoners in custody, transmitted to the Director of Criminal Investigations, for purposes of identification are seen by the police or warders who visit all prisoners under remand, in the Metropolitan Police District three times a week. This system, esta- blished in 1879, has been the means of ascertaining the previous convictions of 7000 prisoners, and affords great facilities to Chief Officers of Police, and the Governors of Her Majesty's Prisons. Such photographs are also compared with the albums in the Convict Office con- taining the portraits of all Convicts liberated in the Kingdom, which are further open to the personal examination of any police officer or warder. IDENTIFICATION OF BODIES. UNCLAIMED The attention of the Editor has been directed to the want of any system existing for the publication of descriptions of dead bodies coming into the hands of Police, and which are buried without having been iden- tified. It having been suggested that the particulars should be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, the Editor will be glad to print any information which it may be considered desirable to publish. Whereas about 10.30 p. m. on the 11th of March, 1884, Mr. ROBERT RANKIN, who resided alone in Yolga Bank Cottage, Moscow, Galston, near Kilmarnock, was found murdered in his dwelling by some person or per- sons unknown > A Reward of £ 100 will be paid by J. " I KNOW WHOM I HAVE BELIEVED." " Believing," 111 Hebrew, signifies " to lean firmly on something." " Now there was leaning 011 . Jesus one of His disciples whom Jesus loved," and this disciple, > St. John, seems never tired of the word " believe." In his Gospel alone he repeats it 99 times. He tells us his reason for writing : " These things are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of ' God, and that believing ye might have life through His Name." He knew what it was to lean firmly on some ONE, and found the results of this believing to be neither few nor small. Let us see a few of them. _ In chap, i., 12, he testifies that those that believe in this ONE " have power to become the sons of God " ; in chap, iii., 16, 18, 36, that they are " not condemned," that they " shall not perish," that they " shall have everlasting life " ; in chap, v., 24, that " they are passed from death unto life"; in chap, vi., 40, that they " shall never thirst"; in chap, xi., 26, 40, that they " shall never die," that they should see the Glory of God"; in chap, xii., 36, 46, that they should " be the children of light," not abiding " in darkness"; in chap, xiv., 12, that they should do " great works" ; in chap, xvi., 27, that the Father Himself loved them ; and in chap. xx., 20, we find the last- recorded words of blessing from the risen Jesus, " Blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed."
