DUBLIN, FRIDAY, MAY 9, 1884. ENGLISH POLICE. DESCRIPTION of John Mooney, alias Connaught Jack, alias Rag Jack, a cattle drover and army pensioner, who has lately resided in Halifax, and for whose apprehension a " Warrant is issued for stealing a young bull, whilst driving it on the high- way between Marsden and Brighouse, Yorkshire ( bull recovered). " Mooney" is known at the princi- pal cattle markets in the counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire, and Lincolnshire:— About - 10 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, medium build, fresh or ruddy complexion, full eyes, dark hair and whiskers, is a cattle drover, resided at Halifax, Yorkshire, prominent forehead, long red face, and small nose ; dressed in a light mixture coat, mole- skin trowsers, and cloth cap. It has been ascertained that on the afternoon he booked from Golcar Railway Station to Liverpool, stating that he was going to sea. It is suspected that he has gone to Ireland. H. WANTED here under a Warrant for unlawfully aban- doning a certain male child, being under 2 years of age, to wit, of the age of 6 weeks, whereby the life of the said child was endangered, Isabella Logan :— About 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark brown hair, pale complexion, full features, stout build, and has Piccadilly fringe; dressed in a dark green dress, black cloth jacket, straw hat trimmed with brown velvet, pink trimming on front, lace- up boots;- she has an aunt residing at 13, Albert- street, Londonderry, where it is supposed she has gone. It is requested that every possible inquiry be made for this women, and, if found, apprehend and communi- cate to tho Detective Department, Town Hall, Salford, Lancashire. April 27, 1884. LEFT without notice; Supervisee William Conroy, alias Henry Watson or George Gibson, a labourer, native of Belfast, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout build,' black hair, brown eyes, fresh complexion, oval features; convicted at: Belfast, 13th February, 1883, of larceny after previous conviction, and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, and 3 years' Police supervision ; released from Belfast Prison 12th February, 1884. WANTED here, on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with the embezzlement or theft of .£ 265 4$. 3d., the property of his employers, Messrs. John Hopkins and Company, Wine Merchants, Glasgow and London, Charles Edward Virtue:— A cashier and bookkeeper, about 26 years of age. 5 feet 6 inches high, stout made, square shoulders, fair complexion, fairish hair, slight fair whiskers and moustache, which may be shaved off; dressed ( supposed) in a light checked tweed suit ( new) or black coat and vest and tweed trowaers, satin or felt hat; occasionally wears glasses; resided with his mother at 13, Shaftesbury- terrace, here ; absconded on 5th April, current. Police Officers are requested to make particular search and inquiry for accused at hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and should he be arrc: ted or traced, to communicate with A. WANTED at Dunblane, under a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with fraud, committed at Dunblane on 25th March, 1884, David, alias James, Robert- son :— Form servant or labourer, about 30 years of age. 5 feet G or 7 inches in height, stout make, dark brown hair, side whiskers and moustache, shaved on ohin, large mouth, lower lip protruding, rocking gait, and stoops slightly when walking, Dress— Gray tweed suit half worn, and all of same material, tweed peaked cap, and lacing boots. Accused is a heavy smoker, fond of drink, and very talkative. County Police Office, Perth, April 4, 1884. ( 28447 M.— 52344.) £ 100 REWARD. MURDER At Moscow, near Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. WHEREAS on the night of Tuesday, the 11th instant, at sometime after 10 30 P. M., Mr. Robert Rankin, 5 years of age, who lived alone in Volga Bank Cottage, at Moscow, Galston, in the county of Ayr, was murdered within his house by some person or persons unknown, the above reward is hereby offered to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information as shall lead to the discovery of the murderer or murderers. There was stolen from the body a large- sized gold lever watch, No. 34611 ; two gold Albert chains- one twisted and one plain gold— said to have been connected with common wire at two or three points, and worn together. A pocket- knife and a pair of compasses, which may have belonged to the mur- derer, may be seen for identification on application to the officials undermentioned. Moscow consists of eight small houses and one inn, situated three miles from Galston, on the road from Galston which connects, above Fenwick, with the Kilmarnock and Glasgow- road, via Newton Mearns and Pollokshaws. Information ( private or otherwise) to be given to Captain M'HARDY, R. N., Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr, or to J. POLLOCK STEVENSON, Procurator Fiscal of Ayrshire. STOLEN, at Llanidloes, between the 14th February and the 15th March, 1884, fifteen Egyptian preference bonds, coupons 10I. each, Nos. 087448, 087449, 087450, 101844, 102578, 102579, 102580, 102581, 102582, 102583, 102584, 102585, 102586, 102587, 102588, value £ 300 ; two Hungarian bonds, 4 per cent, coupons £ 2 each, Nos. 234833, 234834, value £ 152; one Brazilian bond, coupon £ 2 10$.; value £ 100 ; also, a medical practitioner's diploma. Police Officers are requested to make inquires at banks, money changers, brokers, and other persons who are likely to purchase the above. The above reward will be paid to any person as will give such information as will lead to the recovery of the said bonds and conviction of the thief, by Dr. W. Donaldson. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Patrick Carey, 10,909, convicted at Clonmel, county Tipperary, at Spring Assizes, on 5th March, 1875, for— I. sheep stealing; II. sheep stealing, and sentenced to— I. 5 years' penal servitude; II. 5 years' penal servitxide:— 29 years of age on conviction, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a labourer, born in Araglin, Ballyporeen, where heresided before conviction, his friendsreside in Clogheen ; brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, small hooked nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, small oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high ; small cut on right jaw. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison, ihe 12th March, 1884. He recently left his residence without notifying same to the Dublin Metropolitan Police, and is supposed to have gone to Tipperary. DESCRIPTION of Patrick F. Murray, alias Hugh Corrigan, native of Newcastle, county Down, who stands charged with having, on the 11th No vember, 1883, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, left his place of residence, 39, Wine- tavern- street, Belfast, without notifying same to Police, as required by law, he being a licensed convict:— Five white marks on right side and four on left, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, small oval face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 5S years of age, dark brown hair; wore a hard black felt hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Edward Glindon, native of Raheen- roache, county Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the night of 3rd or morningof~ 4th May, 1884, in the barony of St. Mullin's, parish of St. Mullin's stolen from the lands of Harristown, three yearling calves, a pony, and a filly, the property of Thomas Prendergast:— Gray eyes, regular nose, freckled complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard black hat, black pilot overcoat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest ; is a farmer. Description of the three yearling calves, a pony, and a filly :— 1. Three bull calves, one a dark red and the others red colour with white spots, 1 year old; all value for ,£ 15. 2. A stallion pony, bay colour, with small white star on forehead, 3 years old ; value for £ 8. 3. A year- and- a- half- old filly, brown colour, 14 bands hig-'!- long black tail, never good ; value for £ 15. Bagenalstown, May 7, 1884. ( 03537 c.— 9478.) DESCRIPTION of John Reddy, native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on tho 15th April, 1884, in the barony of Carlow, parish of Clonmelsh, stolen from the dwelling- house of Edward Walsh, at Ballybar, and county of Carlow, a pair of boots, a pair of trowsers, a vest, and also a hat; all value for £ 1 16s.:— Defective vision; blue eyes, cocked nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, orown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, tweod trowsers and vest ; is a labourer. Carlow, April 17, 1881. ( 61978 c.— 9386.) DESCRIPTION of articles which wore stolen from the residence of Edward Walsh, 011 15th April, 1884, and are now likely to be worn by John Reddy :— 1. A pair of top boots, nearly new, the property of Edward Walsh ; value for 14s. 2. A pair of corduroy trowsers, of a narrow rib, and lined with calico; 3. A dark tweed waistcoat, having calico sleeves ; 4. A black jerry hat, the property of Michael Quirke, who is a servant in the house; value for £ 1 0s. Carlow, April 19, 1884. ( 61978 c.— 9386.) DESCRIPTION of Peter Curran ( mother's surname Grant), native of Gortnacondra, county Leitrim, who stands charged with having, on the 25th March, 1884, in the barony of Tullyhunco, parish of Arva, seriously assaulted one Patrick Magowan, thereby endangering his life :— Slight stoop, broad forehead, large mouth, walks stiffly, gray eyes, long thin nose, fresh com- plexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair ; wore a black soft felt hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest ; is a labourer. This man may endeavour to emigrate to England or Scotland. Killeshandra, April 2, 1884. ( 62099 c.— 7210.) James Coyle ( embezzlement), not arrested; Hue- and- cry, 8th February, 1884. Cork. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Charles M'Carthy, convicted in Cork, on 11th Octobor, 1877, for I. house- breaking and robbery; II. larceny and re- ceiving and former conviction; III. larceny and receiving and former conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude, and 5 years' Police super- vision:— 10 years of age on conviction, married, is a shoemaker, born in Bandon, resided before con- viction in Bandon, his friends reside in Waterford; brown hair turning gray, blue eyes, fresh complexion, oval thin visage, bald on top of head, lost nearly all upper front teeth, large red birth- mark on right forearm, cross, heart, and anchor on left forearm, average mako, 5 feet 4 inches high. This convict was released from Mountjoy Prison, 23rd November, 1883, on liccnco, and went to Cork. He reported to the Royal Irish Constabulary at Shandon- street, Cork, his intention of going to Queenstown, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under tho 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Tic., cap. 112. ( 28514 M.— 52943.) DESCRIPTION of Roger O'Donnell ( mother's sur- name Fitzgerald), native of Mitchelstown, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of April, 1884, in the barony of Condons and Clongibbons, parish of Brigown, stabbed Redmond Bailey in the abdomen, thereby placing his life in danger:— Natural dingo on bridge of nose, fresh cut- mark on forehead, gray eyes, florid complexion, fresh face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, looks younger, light brown hair; wore a brown tweed coat, plaid trowsers, and brown vest; is a car- driver. A Warrant is in the hands of District Inspector Carter, of Mitchelstown, for his arrest. It is likely he will endeavour to go to England or emigrate. Mitchelstown, April 14, 1881. ( 63064 0.— 11795.) DESCRIPTION of Michael Healy, native of county Clare, who stands charged with having, on the 24th March, 1884, in the barony of Inchiquin, parish of Inagh, stolen a two- year- old heifer, value for £ 10, from tho lands of Letterkelly, the property of Michael M'Mahon, farmer, which he sold at Ennis tymon fair on same date :— Cut- mark on cheek near mouth, slightly bow legged and walks heavily, no beard, slight moustache, dark sunken eyes, long nose, sallow complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair ; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat and trowsers, and gray vest; is a labourer and militia- man. DESCRIPTION of articles found in possession of James Kelly, guard on the Waterford and Limerick Railway, at Ennis, on 13th February, 1884, and which are supposed to have been stolen :— 1. A lady's gold ring, set with three pearls. 2. A lady's gold ring, set with emerald and two small diamonds. 3. A lady's gold ring, set with a small ruby and five sapphires. 4. A lady's gold ring, set with five pearls. 5. A lady's gold ring, set with ten pearls. 6. A gentleman's small scarf- pin, horseshoe pattern, set with seven small diamonds, two missing. 7. A silver brooch, fern pattern, each leaf set with small pearls. 8. A silver brooch, Maltese cross. 9. A lady's scarf- pin, a gold whip in a silver horse- shoe. 10. A gold pencil with the name " W. S. Hicks" engraved on it. 11. Head of a gentleman's scarf- pin, with a round carbuncle set in it, pin broken off. 12. Two silver sloeve links made of coins, one of two annas, and one of ten cents, Mauritius. 13. A small gold watch- key. 14. A silvor sleeve link, set with four Scotch pearls. 15. A lady's gold chain with cross attached, set with garnets. 16. A lady's watch chain, brooch, and ring, all brass. 17. A silver lid, supposed to be the lid of glass soap stand belonging to a lady's or gentleman's travelling dressing- case, with the initials " H. M. DESCRIPTION of James Murland, alias Patrick Gelston ( mother's surname M'Williams), native of Annacloy, who stands charged with having, on the 20th March, 1884, in the barony of Lecale Lower, parish of Inch, stolen a silver watch, the property of Francis Kerr, from the dwelling- house of Campbell Gibson ; the watch has been found in a pawn office in Belfast:— Large blue eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 3 feet 10 inches high, about 13 years of age, very fair hair; wore a long dark coat ( much too large) and dark trowsers ; is a farm servant. Downpatrick, March 21, 1884. ( 62081 c.— 7162.) Henry Fisher ( robbery of clothing), has been ai- res ted ; Hue- and- Cry, 15 th January, 1884. Dublin. The man who gave the name of M. Byrne ( obtain- ing money by false pretences), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 12th February, 1884. Galway. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Killeen, native of Carrow- bawn, who stands charged with having, on the 15th March, 1884, in the barony of Ross, parish ' of Cong, seriously assaulted Martin Fox ;— Gray eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, regular face, medium mate, 5 feet 7 A inches high, about 22 years of age, very red hair; wore a round felt jerry hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Martin Coleman ( mother's surname Nolan), native of Ballygar, who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of March, 1884, in the barony of Killian, parish of Killeroran, deposited two threaten- ing notices in front of the dwelling- house of Alexander M'Kenzie, of Ballygar ;— Round shoulders and walks with a stoop, keeping his hands in his trowsers'' pockets, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about. 25 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft black hat, gray frieze frock coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a carpenter's apprentice. DESCRIPTION of Mary Bligh, alias Lynch, native of Ballymoe, who disappeared from her home, in the barony of Ballymoe, parish of Drumatemple, on or about the 9th January, 1884, and has not been since heard of; it is feared tbat she may have met with foul play -.— Gray or blue eyes, sharp nose, sallow com- plexion, thin wrinkled face, very slight make, 4 feet 2 inches high, about 80 years of age, gray hair; wore a small " black bonnet, black cloak with a hood, and slippers, walks with the aid of a stick, good address, very infirm. DESCRIPTION of r Peter Duignan, a Constable^ Royal Irish Constabulary, native of Cuilty Conway, county Roscommon,' who stands charged with having, on the 8th February, 1884, in the barony of Corka- guiny, parish of Castlegregory, absconded, taking several sums of money with him, the property of his comrades, which had been entrusted to him to pay mess hills, & c., and also with leaving the force with- out giving due notice:— Hazel eyes, regular nose, pale freckled complexion, long face, slight make, 5 feet 1inches high, about 20 years of age ; wore a hard round hat, long black Ulster coat, tweed trowsers and vest. He is by no means a military- looking man. Speaks with a drawling accent when addressed by any person. Will endeavour to emi- grate to America, Dingle, Feb. 16, 1884. ( 61349 0.— 11426.) Kildare. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Patrick Howard,. A 171, convicted at Naas, county Kildare, at Assizes, on 12th March, 1880, for malicious wounding, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 38 years of age on conviction, married, is a baker, prison trade, labourer, born in Ballymacormack, resided before conviction in Mullingar, his friends reside in Bally- macormack ; black hair getting bald in front, gray eyes, black eyebrows, sharp nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, long visage, white marks on left side under arm, medium make, 5 feot 8 inches high. This man was discharged on licence from Mountjoy Prison, 12th February, 1884, and went to Greenock. He reported himself at Naas, the 25th March, 1884, - and stated he was going to look for work on the railway. Two days subsequent to being at Naas he reported himself at Dunlavin, and stated he was going back to Naas, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 A 35 Vic., cap. 112. April 28,1884. ( 28561 m.— 53017.) DESCRIPTION of " John" , native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on the 24th day of April, 1884, in the barony of South Salt, parish of Kilteel, and townland of Kilwarden, been one of three men who forcibly entered the house of Richard Leahy, and by threats forced him to deliver up his money, amounting to £ 100, made up of nine £ 10 notes, a £ 5 note, and single ones :— Long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 50 . years of age ; is a labourer. Naas, April 25, 1884. ( 63504 c.— 9422.) George Roberts, 1st Royal Dragoons ( charged with having stolen a large quantity of wearing apparel), has been arrested; see last issue. Michael Watson ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 18th April, 1884. Harriett Murray ( suspected infanticide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 15th January, 1884. Leitrim. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 19th day of April, 1884, in the barony of Leitrim, parish of Kiltoght, been found at Carrick- on- Shannon in a proclaimed district, under suspicious circum- stances, and refused to give his name or any account of himself, and he has been committed to Sligo Gaol for one month:— Round shoulders, prominent teeth which he exposes when speaking, back a little bent forward when walking, blue eye3", thin nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 34 years of age, light brown hair; wore a soft hat, black cloth coat, cloth trowsers and vest, wore a white stock. His dress was the same as worn by Roman Catholic Clergy. This man may have committed offences elsewhere. ( 62621 c.— 8138.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY. MAY 9, 1884 DESCRIPTION of Thomas Cullen, native of Drum- hubride, who stands charged with- having, on a Sunday evening in or about the harvest of 1883, in the barony of Leitrim, parish of Kiltubride, com- mitted a- rape on one Fanny Knott:— Two upper front teeth large, gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a low soft hat, round " black cloth coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a small farmer. Will endeavour to emigrate to America. Ballinamore, April 10, 1884. ( 02613 o.— 8125.) Limerick. DESCRIPTION of John Darcey, native of Doon, who stands charged with having, on the 26th day of March, 1884, in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Doon, failed to appear at New Palles Petty Sessions in com- pliance with his personal recognizance of £ 50, before the last Assize Court at Limerick, and enter into security to stand his trial at the next Limerick Assizes, on'a charge of larceny from the person of Ellen Nicholas of £ 3 7s.:— Brown eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet inches high, about 35 years of age, black hair; wore a dark frock coat, tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a cooper. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Con- stabulary. New Palles, April 26, 1881. ( 63110 c.— 11890.) DESCRIPTION of John Flynn, native of Derryhomes, Clonfert, county Galway, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1884, in the barony of Limerick, parish of St. John's, stolen a watch and chain, the property of Francis O'Dea, and having failed to surrender to his bail at Limerick Petty Sessions on the 14tli instant:— Brown eyes, hooked nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 33 years of age, dark hair ; wore a black jerry hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is- an assistant engine driver- A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Police at Clare- street, Limerick. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 14th or morning of 15th March, 1884, in the barony of Glenquin, parish of Newcastle, stolen from a lodging- house the following articles, viz.:— A gray tweed trowsers, a half sovereign, 14s. in silver, and a silver Geneva watch, value £ i 5s.:— Walks erect, and wants a tooth in front of mouth; slight make 5 feet 8 inches high, about 50 years of age, sandy hair ( tinged with gray); wore a hard black jerry hat, black coat, trowsers, and vest, and black scarf; is a tramp. DESCRIPTION of Arthur Kane, native of Ballykelly, county Down, who stands charged with having, on the 30th November, 1883, in the barony of Coleraine, parish of Coleraine, committed wilful and corrupt perjury :— Peculiar cast in right eye, scowling visage, looks down when meeting you, gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair, no hair on face exept very slight moustache ; wore a cloth cap, dark coat, moleskin trowsers, and old gray vest; is a farm servant. DESCRIPTION of John Kenny, native of Cloughooly, county Mayo, who stands charged with having, on the 30th day of October, 1883, in the barony of Costello, parish of Aughamore. assaulted Bridget Cassidy, of Cloughooly, county Mayo, so as to put her life in danger, and having been bound to appear to take his trial for said offence to the January, 1884, Quarter Sessions, failed to appear:— Dark eyes, long thick nose, dark complexion, long facc, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a corduroy suit; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Patrick M'Enally, native of Kil- murry, who left his home on the 6th instant, in the barony of Farney, parish of Inniskeen, and it is feared he has met with some foul play, or that some harm has befallen him :— Blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round fat face, stout make, about 12 years of age ( rather big of his age), light brown hair; wore a cloth cap with peak, corduroy coat, trowsers, an 1 vest. DESCRIPTION of John Flood, native of Askanvillar or the neighbourhood of New Ross, who stands charged with having, on or about the 14th February, 1884, in the barony of Bantry, parish of Kiltealy, stolen a set of donkey's harness, which has been recovered :— Halt in one leg, which he tries to con- ceal, it is believed that the leg was once broken; dark eyes, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 § inches high, about 38 years of age, dark hair, shaves upper lip, but now may let moustache grow, wears whiskers, and lets beard grow under the chin; wore a dark soft hat, dark coat, trowsers. and vest; is a labourer or thatcher.
