DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 1884. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 5 REWARD. WANTED for embezzling certain moneys belonging to his master, Thomas Charles Trouncer, and another, Brewers in this town, John William Owen :— A brewer's clerk ( formerly a coal merchant at Welsh- pool and Shrewsbury), about 33 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, very stout build, large belly, full fresh face, dnrk hair, dark brown whiskers, benrd, and moustache ( which he may shave off), whiskers and beard rather short, rather bow legged, and turns his feet out when walking, is in the habit of carrying his hands behind him underneath his coat. Dressed when ho left here on the 15th instun in durk clothes and hard felt hat. He is a nativi of Shrewsbury, and well known amongst brewen, clerks, un. l travellers, frequents coursing meetings^ and billiard rooms, well known about Welshpool. Warrant issued'. M. on Tuesday, the 1st day of January, 1884, John Broome Tower was murdered, and his body subsequently found in the New River Company's Reservoir, Lordship- road, Stoke Newington, and a vcrdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown has been returned by a Coroner's Jury. A Reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the Unit- d Kingdom) who shall give such information as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the Murderer or Murderers, and the Secretary of State for the Homo Department will advise tho jnant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. There was stolon from the body a silver plate horizontal Geneva watch, and a " gold- plated double Albert ( tho bar of which has been found on a piece of waste ground adpujing Queen Elizabeth's Walk), with metal sovereign purse at end. STOLEN from the person of a gentleman, in this borough, on the evening of the 19th instant, a gentle- man's gold keyless pocket chronometer watch, white dial, plain smooth cases, maker M. G. All the above articles are part worn. TIIE person after described is wanted here, charged with fraud and wilful imposition. Bis modus operandi is to travel about the country, and calling at cotters' and labourers' houses, represents himself to be a shepherd in tbe employment of some well- ' known farmer, and that he is in charge of sheep in the neighbourhood, and asks to be accommodated for the night, by which means he obtains board and lodgings, and on following day he quietly decamps. Description of Accused.— A man apparently between 35 and 40 years of age ; speaks a broid ( supposed Aberdeen) dialect; height about 5 feet 6 inches, stout make, fair or brown hair, short red whiskers, no beard or moustache. V\ as followed by a black collie dog having white spot on breast. Dress.— Dark tweed jacket, vest, and trowsers; brown peaked cap, and blue pilot topcoat. WANTED at Dunblane, under a Sheriffs Warrant, chargcd with having on 9th January, 1884, stolen by means of opening lockfast places, from the servants' bothy, at Luib Hotel, in this county, a brown leather pocket book, containing two £ 5 notes, and seven 11 notes, all of the Bank of Scotland, James Bannerman :— Hostler or labourer, native of Aberdeenshire, about 60 years of age, 6 feet In inches in height, stout make, scar on right side of nose, gray hair, whiskers, and moustache, and shaved on chin. Dress— Dark brown jacket, dirty- white corded trowsers, dark brown fur cap, and leather leggings. He is addicted to drink, nnd will likely be found spending the money about hotel stables and public houses, or ho rimy get employment with farmers. Ho was convicted of theft and previously convicted before tho Sheriff Court at Perth, on 19th January, 1883, and sentenced to three months' imprisonment. General Prison Photo, ^ fj-. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 8th January, 1884, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— Samuel Henderson, 15 years of age, brown hair, brown eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, about 5 feet 1 inch high, scar on centre of forehead, scar on side of head above ear ; born in Downpatrick, formerly belonged to Killyleagh. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded— Brown tweed jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue striped shirt, red and black tie, nailed boots, and woollen stockings. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Leahy ( mother's surname Leahy), native of Fevatia, wbo stands charged with having, on the 4th December, 1883, in the baronv of Trughenackmy, parish of Castleisland, seriously assaulted Patrick Herlihy, so as to endanger his life :— Deeply pockmarked, speaks with a drawling voice; gray eyes, large nose, swarthy complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, jet black hair; wore a hard black hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. WANTED here, on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged \ vith tho crime of theft, viz., stealing a clarionet, on the 3rd instant, Herbert Peter Lisle:— A musician, 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches in height, dark hair inclining to curl, parted down the centre, dark moustache and imperial, no whiskers, thin facc, ruddy complexion, clean smart appearance, a native of Dublin, tattooed on one of the arms and some of tbe fingers; wore a black corded coat, black cloth trowsers and vest, black felt hat, militia shirt, also a white linen and yellow and white striped Thibet shirt ( wore the lutter topmost), dark scarf with yellow spot, and military boots. The clarionet has been recovered in Kilmarnock. lie served some time in the Royal Scots Fusiliers, deserted, was punched, and igno- miniously discharged. Is married ; his wife is said to be in Liverpool or Dublin. lie was formerly in America, his parents having emigrated there some time ago. DESCRIPTION of Henry Fisher, native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of January, 1881, in the barony of Castlereagh, parish of Saintfield, stolen from " the dwelling- house of William John Fisher a suit of clothes, which have been found in a pawn office in Belfast:— flat nose, fresh complexion, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of aae, l'ght brown hair, sandy moustache, beard ar. d whiskers cut very short; wore a long gray coat, dark trowsers and vest; drives horses to fairs. DESCRIPTION of Harriett Murray, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on th& 11th day of January, 1884, in the barony of South Salt, parish of Donaghcomper, county Kildare, deserted her female infant child on the public road at Loughlinstown, thereby causing its death :— Brown eyes, long nose, fair complexion, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a black bonnet, black tight fitting jacket, elastic boots, and blue woollen stockings. This woman wore three petticoats— two old white ones and one red flannel ( good). She was delivered of the child in South Dublin Union Workhouse on 31st December, 188: 1; discharged therefrom 10th January, 1884, with the infant, and carried a black bag containing a night dress and hair brush, and Stated she would go to Kildare town same evening by train. M. on the 7th instant, the vestry of the Roman Catholic Church at Celbridge was broken into and the following articles stolen :— 1. A silver chalice, gilt'on ifiside, about 9 inches high, gilding worn off at bottom. 2. A small silver chalice, about 7 inches high, with the inscription on bottom " Presented to the parish of Celbridge" and a date ( about 100 years ago). 3. A silver pyx, about 4 inches in diameter, and 2 inches deep in the centre. 4. A large quantity of gold lace and gold orna- ments ip > ed from off the priest's vestments ( about 100 yaid-), varying from 1 to 2 inches wide; also some gold fringe from 2 to 4 inches deep. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and tunic, black cloth Scotch cap, and strong nailed boots. Committed at Foxford, county Mayo. Tho Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward tho person who may capture him with £ 1. (• 27785 m.— 51229.) DKSCRIPTION of John Gallagher, alias James Maguire, alias Durnin, native of fintona, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 9th Novem- ber, 1883, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, stolen an ass, the property of John Fanning, of Ardaghey :— Shuffling gait, bald on top of head, long fair hair on eyebrows; gray eyes, fair complexion, long fat face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 50 years of age, sandy hair turn- ing gray; wore a soft hat, cuts on the crown, and sewed with white thread, old brownish tweed coat and trowsers, and old laced boots without stockings; is a travelling vagrant. Pale complexion, thin face, stout make, low- sized, about 35 years of age, sandy whiskers ; wore a round hat and blue pilot coat; is supposed to be a tramp. 2. Stout make, about 30 years of age ; wore a red plaid shawl. The man and woman were accompanied by a small spotted dog, either black and white or red and white. Description of the ass :— A light coloured gray gelding, about 2 years old, unshod; the head was of a lighter colour than the rest of the body ; value for about £ 2 10 « .
