THE Police OB Gazette AIVD- CRY, Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under oover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; bux it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry,. it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information it is almost impoqpible to rectify the mistake. DUBLIN, FBIDAY, DECEMBER 21, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. .£ 20 REWARD. STOLEN from a pawn shop, at Miles Platting, between 10 40 r. M. on the 8th instant, and 6 10 A. M. on the 10th instant, viz. 44 gold wedding rings ; 33 gold keeper rings; 17 sets coral beads, gold snaps ; 9 gold dress rings; 5 gold Albert guards; 2 silver guards; 4 gold brooches ; 1 gold brooch, with c6ral in centre; 1 gold massive breast pin, horseshoe pattern ; 1 silver breast pin; 4 gold lockets and chains; 1 silver locket and brooch ; 2 silver medals fbr Zulu war, each marked " Wolfenden"; 1 silver medal marked " Mitchell" ; 1 gold oblong- shaped locket, diamond in centre ; also £ 157 10*. in gold, and £ 46 10j. in silver. The abovo reward will be paid by the owner for the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, and the apprehension and conviction of tho thief or thieves. M., 7th instant, viz.:— One gent's black worsted moaning coat, . single breasted, lined with black Italian cloth, three pockets outside and ticket pockct, orie pocket inside rigtit breast, and vest to mutch; one gent's dark blue melton morning coat, single breasted, pleated seams, lined with black satin quilting and Italian cloth, two pockets- in skirts, one pocket outside left breast, and one inside right- breast; one gents black melton sack jacket, single breasted, and lined with black Italian cloth, black bone buttons, three pockets outside and ticket pocket, and one inside right breast, " Ilogi^ p" on loop. This man has a wife and three children whor followed him', and left here on the 1st October \ wife about 30 years of'age, about 5 feet high, stout build, sallow complexion, speaks with an Irish accent; dressed in a gray or brown winsey dress, black cloth jacket, black and white plaid shawl, black straw hat trimmed with bltick velvet, and elastic side boots, lst child, a girl about G years of age, fair complexion, brown hair, stout full face; dj- « ssed in a gray winsey dress, gray Ulster, white straw hat trimmed with blue ribbon, and l « oeTup boots. 2nd child, a boy 4 years of age. light brown hair j dressed in a brown frock, gray Ulster coat, brown straw sailor, hat with mixed verge, and lace boots. 3rd child, a boy 18 months old; yyore a brown frock and black hood; wife carried him in her arms wrapped up in a black and white plaid shawl. WANTED on a Bench Warrant, granted by the Judge nt the Assize Court, York Castle, on the 14th instant charged with perjury, John Bagen or Baigen; gamekeeper, late of Brompton, near Scarborough, in th « o. North Riding of Yorkshire:— From 30 to 35 ^ fs of ago, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender build, • ow complexion, face very much freckled, auburn hair inclined to curl; sandy whiskers and moustache, downcast look, right shoulder up a little, hangs his head slightly down when walking, supposed to have bden previously in the service of the Earl of Wicklow ; dressed when he left here on the 28th of September £ 100 reward. WILFUL MURDER. WHEREAS, at 5 40 AM. - on Thursday, the 4th' instant, the dead body of Jonas Bottomley, confectioner, Keighley, was found lying, face downwards, on the canal side, near Monk Bridge Forge, in this borough, and on medical examination, there were found a large wound on the forehead and another on the back of the head. There wa< missing from his vest pocket ( supposed stolen) a medium- sized gold Geneva watch, silver gilt dial mirh worn, and flowered hack also much worn. An inquest was held on the 18th instatt, and a verdict of wilful murder returned agairst some person or persons unknown. Notice is hereby given that the above reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to aiy person ( other than a person belonging to a Police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give sish infor- mation and evidence as sha\ l lead to the liscovery and conviction of the murderer' or murdeers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grait of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomlice, not being the person who actually comntted the murder, who shall give shell evidence as hall lead to a like result. . LICENCE- HOLDER, A 122, Samuel Anderson, alias John Hennessy or Murphy :— A painter native of Maryboro,' 76 years of age, 5 feet 3 indes high, medium build, gray hair, gray eyes, sallow cfnplexion, oval features, lost nearly all his teeth, convicted at Omagh, county Tyrone, 13th October, 1879, of larceny and previous conviction, and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; liberated f> m H. M, Convict Prison, Mountjoy, 12th ultimo. On the I3th, ultimo he reported himself at Livepo. ol, and stated he was going to Manchester, hu has not reported himself there, and his present wereabouts is unknown. WANTED here, on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with the crime of theft, viz., stealing a clarionet, on the 3rd instant, Herbert Peter Lisle":— A musician, 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches in height, dark hair inclining to curl, parted dowh the centre, dark moustache and imperial, no whiskers, thin face, ruddy complexion, clean smart appearance, a native of Dublin, tattooed on one of the arms and some of the fingers; wore a black corded coat, black cloth trowsers and vest, black felt hat, militia shirt, also a white linen and yellow and white striped Thibet shirt ( wore the latter topmost), dark scarf with yellow spot, and military boots. The clarionet has been recovered in Kilmarnock. He served some time in the Royal Scots Fusiliers, deserted, was punished, and igno- miniously discharged. Is married ; his wife is said to be in Liverpool or Dublin. He was formerly in America, his parents having emigrated there some' time ago. Police Constables are requested to make search for and apprehend the said Herbert Peter Lisle, and communicate with R. D. MURDOCH, Esq., Procurator- Eiscal of Ayrshire, or the Subscriber, D. DESCRIPTION of John Roulston, native of Drum- innis, who stands charged with having, on the 16th day of December, 1883, in the barony of Lower Fews, parish of Mullaghbrack, broken into tho dwelling- house of Robert Brown, of killyrudden, and stolen therefrom the sum of £ 48 or there- abouts ;— Mark of an explosion of gunpowder under one ot his eyebrows, old cut mark over right eye, whitish downy hair beginning to grow on face, fair com- plexion, about a feet 6 inches high, about 18. years ofi age, fair hair cut short. DESCRIPTION of John O'Brien, native of Dublin, who is in custody, charged with having, oii the 8rd day of December, 1883, in the barony of Clonkee, parish of Bailieboro', stolen from James Coyle the sum of £ 5 4s. 7 Id., at the fair of Bailieboro'; he may have committed crime elsewhere, as he refuses to give a satisfactory account of himself:— Pimples on face near nose, speaks with a slight Scotch accent, gray eyos, regular nose, fresh complexion, round luce, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 38 years of sandy bushy whiskers and moustache ; wore a dark brown tweea coat, trowsens, nud vest. DESCRIPTION of Farrell Tighe or M'Teague, native of Ballyleenan, who stands charged with having, on the night of 21st June, 1883, in the barony of Tullyhaw, parish of Templeport, stolen two cows, the property of Mary and Kate Tighe, of Kilnavart, county Cavan— see Hue- and- Ciy of 26th June, 1883 — Stooped shoulders, slight stoppage in speech, gray eyes, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, round faoe, stout make, !> feet 10 inches high, about 88 years of age, light brown hair ; is a farm labourer. Andrew Hehir ( prison breach), not arrested; hue- and- Cry, 20th June, 1883. Cork. DESCRIPTION of James Regan, native place unknown, who stands oharged with having, on the 16th November, 1883, in the barony of Cork, parish of Holy Trinity, passed two base florins, and is returned for trial to Winter Assizes to be held in Cork on 7 th prox. There is every reason to believe he is a returned convict, or was convicted before, and may possibly be known to the Police in either Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, or London:— Rupture on rigtit side of abdomen, slightly knock- kneed, turns out his toes when walking, speaks with an English accent, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 60 years of age, gray hair ; wore a soft felt hat, bluo pilot pea jacket, cord trowsers, and barragan vest, black and white woollen muffler, and strong laced boots; lost several teeth. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Leahy ( mother's surname Leahy), native of Fevatia, who stands charged with having, on the 4th December, 1883, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Castleisland, seriously assaulted Patrick Herlihy, so as to endanger his life:— Deeply pockmarked, speaks with a drawling voice; gray eyes, large nose, swarthy complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about ii years of age, jet black hair; wore a hard black hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Deady, native of Bally- knockan « , who, on the 26th November, 1883, in the barony of Corkaguiny, parish of Kilquane, left his house at Ballyknockane, and has not since been heard of, and it is feared some harm has befallen him:— Hare lip, deaf and dumb, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 70 years of age, gray hair ; wore a hard woollen hat, flannel trowsers and vest; is a small farmer. K. on the 7th instant, the vostry of tho Roman Catholic Church at Celbridge was broken into and the following articles stolen :— 1. A silver chalice, gilt on inside, about 9 inches high, gildiag worn off at bottom. 2. A small silver chalice, about 7 inches high, with the inscription on bottom " Presented to the parish of Celbridge " and a date ( about 100 years ago). 3. A silver pyx, about 4 inches in diameter, and 2 inches dap in the centre. 4. A large quantity of gold lace and gold orna- ments ripped fi- dm off the priest's vestments ( about 100 yards) varying frofn 1 to 2 inches wide; also some gold ringe from 2 to 4 inches deep. DESCRIPON of a grayhoutid, the property of1 Michael Cocoran, which was stolen or strayed from the lands c Listrolin, parish of Rathkeiran, barony of Iverk, about the middle of September, 1883 :— A ye'low grayhound bitch, a little white on the breast, mark like a cut across each of the forelegs, medium size, strong2 or 8 years old. 1 . DESCRIPTION of James Morrissey, native of Smiths- town, who stands charged with having, oimkM! 29th September, 1883, at Mullinavat, in the bafony of Knocktopher, parish of Kilbacon, seriously assaulted James Dollard, from the effects of which his life is in danger:— May have, fresh cut- marks on right hand, gray eyes, straight nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 21 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft black hat, black frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a foal, the property of Patrick Quilty, of Donoman, parish of Croom, barony of Coshma, which was stolen from his lands on night of 9th December, 1883, viz.:— A steel gray colour, with black legs, and a star on its forehead, it had also a whitish patch on the hip, 8 months old ;. value for about eight pounds (£ 8). DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 6th or morning of 7th December, 1883, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Effin, feloniously stolen a cart, the property of Thomas Ryan, of Garrankea;— Small tender eyes, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 50 years of age; wore a black Jim Crow hat, whitish coat, dark trowsers, and old Vest. Description of the cart:— A new cart, painted red, labelled T. Ryan on off side, one of the wheels newly shod, the shoeing of the other wheel welded in two places, one of the boxes fastened with wedges, and now worn by linch- pins, has long heels, which may now be cut short y. value for about £ 3. .. . . ' Monaghan, , DESCRIPTION of John Gallagher, alias James Maguire, alias Durnin, native of Fintona, Who stands charged with having, on the night of the 9th Novem- ber, 1883, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, stolen an ass, the property of John Fanning,' of Ardaghey :— Shuffling gait, bald on top t) f head, long fair hair on eyebrows; gray eyes, fair complexion, long fat face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 50 yearfe of age, sandy hair turn- j ing gray; wore a soft hat, . cuts on the crown, and sewed with white thread, old brownish tweed coat and trowsers, and old laced boots without stockings ; is a travelling vagrant. DESCripTION of Thomas Clarke ( mother's surname Lenaghan), native of Runnabol, who stands charged with having, on the 17th day of October, 1- 883, in tho barony of Frenchpark, parish of Kilmacumsey, dangerously assaulted Patrick Beirne, from the effects of which his life was in danger:— Mark of an old cut on forehead, a hollow on crowp of head from the effect of a stroke of a stone, rather short neck, and slightly stooped, dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 5 or 0 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a dark round hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer. This man was admitted to bail to take his trial at Winter Assizes, Sligo, on 4th instant, on above charge; he failed to appear. A Warrant has been issued for his arrest. Strokestown, Dec. 5, 1883. DESCRIPTION of Peter M'Mullin, native of Cadian, county Tyrone, who, on the 7th October, 1883, in the barony of Dungannon, parish of Clonfeacle, and townland of Cadian, disappeared from his residence at Cadian, and has not since been heard of; he showed symptoms of derangement of mind for a short time previous, and it is feared something wrong may have happened to him:— Stooped shoulders, and used a stick when walking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 70 years of age, gray hair; wore an old worsted cap, black coat, velvet on collar, black cord trowsers, and old brown vest. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 27th November, 1883, in the barony of Talbots- town Lower, parish of Donard, and townland of Kilbaylet, stolen an ass, the property of Patrick Reilly :— 1. Pale complexion, thin face, stout make, low- sized, about 35 years of age, sandy whiskers ; wore a round hat and blue pilot coat; is supposed to be a tramp. 2. Stout make, about 30 years of age; wore a red plaid shawl. The man and woman were accompanied by a small spotted dog, either black and white or red and white. Description of the ass :—• A light coloured gray gelding, about 2 years old, unshod; the head was of a lighter colour than the rest of the body; value for about £ 2 10s. Dunlavin, November 28, 1883.
