KotlC*.— It if requested that all communication* for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of ths person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably accessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of ths Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. AJ no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. Ths Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A., to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The • mount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tas persons forwarding them. Thoy should oontain 210 expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without fcbs app: - ehension of the offender. It ta particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of ths address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and PC LICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. ' Whereas on 19th ultimo, Robert Hudson, day watchman cn hoard the s. s. ' Ashington,' belonging to Messrs'. Milburn and Co., of London and Newcastle, and moored at Smith's Buoys, River Tyne, North ShieMs, was found to be missing from his post, and on 26th ultimo his dead body, with frac- tured skull and dislocated vertebra, was found concealed in the bilges of said vessel. A coronei's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Notice is hereby given, that Her Majesty's Government offer A REWARD of £ 100 to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kiugdom) who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and con- viction of the Murderer, or Murderers, and the Secretaiy of State will advise the Grgntof Her Majesty's Gracious PARDON to any Accomplice not being the person who actually com- mitted the Murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information is requested from any person or person, who, on 19th ultimo, conveyed any person or persons on board of the ftbove- mentioned s. s. ' Ashington,' or conveyed him or them on shore from the said vessel, or from the steam tugs ' Joseph Hazell" and ' Defiance,' moored respectively to the starboard bow and quarter of s. s. ' Ashington,' on the evening and night of above- mentioned date ; also with reference to a brass round- faced engine- room Clock, alleged to be missing from engine- room of said vessel ; also as to ownership of a white linen handkerchief, marked ' K. M., No. 23,' and a buckhorn - 2- bladed penknife ( blades rather loose), found in engine- room. Information to any Police Station, or to Mr. Supt. Stolen from the person on 19th instant:— a gentleman's gold keyless pocket chronometer Watch, white dial, plain smooth cases, maker M. G. Collingwood, 21, South- street, Middlesbro', No. 10940, the bow supposed to be broken off. £ 5 reward will be paid on the recovery of the watch, and the conviction of the thief or thieves. Charged with breaking in'oa shop at Stoke- on- Trent, on 9th instant, and stealing silk Handkn- ehiefs and otter articles of men's apparel :— SAMUEL BATH, about30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and light coloured moustach « , blue cut mark on nose, rough dirty appearance, a collier, and associates with prostitutes, supposed known in Derbyshire; dressed in black cloth jacket, pockets on hips, light grey trousers, black hard hat, or double peake cap, lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, STOKE- ON- TRENT.— Bow- street., December 19. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Broxted, Essex, on 16th instant:— a grey melton Oveicoat; a worsted plaid Overcoat; a black c'oth sleeved Waistcoat; a light cloth Vest; a pair of new black kid Gloves ; and two Hand- kerchiefs. By two men now in custody on the charge, property recovered :— one, HENRY DAVID30N, 26 years of age, 6 feet 0 inches high, grey eyes, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, slight moustache, ' TH. T. D. 1, heait, and cross on right forearm; he states he has been a trimmer on board the steam ship ' Consent', r. f South Shields, Captain Smith. The other JOHN GAMLYN, 18 years of age, 6feet 6 inches high, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, and sallow com- plexion ; states that he worked for Messrs. Saunders, Bros., van proprietors, of No. 3, Hampstead- street, Fitzroy- square, as a porter, about 12 months ago. Information to Mr. Supt. Ackers, Constabulary Office, DUNHOW, Essex.— Bcw- street, December 19. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 4 pm. 15th and lam. 16th instant : — a spade Guinea, a spade Half- guinea, a small Diamond out of a rirg ; a amall oval gold Locket, with diamoud- shaDed shield raised on front; a pair of gold Solitaires, fancy pattern; a silver oval Locket, medium size, horseshoe one side, monogram ' E. M. F.' the other ; a link- pattern silver NeckV, fastens with a clasp ; a pair of lady's small Opera- glasses, outiide cases mother- o'- pearl, barrel and mountings aluminium, about 2 inches long when closed, and weie in a blue velvet case lined with white satin. Wanted for shopbreaking at Stoke- on- Trent, on 9th instant, and stealing a man's dark mixture Suit ; boy's Trousers and Vest, brown mixture, knicker make ; a Jacket and Vest, same material, bat lighter m; xture ; a Jacket, ditto, black metal buttons on trousers, black bone buttons 011 jacket and vest, vesta lined with slate selitia ; a boy's small brown mixture Overcoat, single breasted, plain collar, brown buttons, ulster make, brown Italian lining; a common brown Cardigan Jacket: about ore dozen white silk Handkerchiefs; several coloured Ditto ; and a man's black or dark Overcoat: — two men, the first about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 ins. high, labourer, Dative of Stoke- on- Trent, pale complexion, long thin face, clean shaved, very large fall eyes, slender, king's evil marks on left side of neck, and a slight lump under the jaw ; second about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, bricklayer's labourer, fresh complexion, dark moustache, supposed small side whiskers, daik hair, blue eyes, rather stout; the first man will most probably be found wearirg the sait of stolen clothes, as he left his old ones behind. Stilen on 5th instant, at Dalston : - a dark brown horse Pony, 13 bands high, aged, in good condition, recently clipped, hair rubbed off tail, near rump ; a dark green painted Cart, picked out light greeD, ' John Ashton, Butcher, King Henry's Walk,' on Bhaft; a Set of brass mounted Habeas ; a small mahegmy Writing Desk, containing 12 white handled Knives and Forks, ' Climax Skegg, Kiogsland', on blades; 5 small ditto, * Sold b/ G. Hutchinson, Newington Causeway,' on blades; 4 plated Tea- sponns ; a mahogany Tea Caddy, con- taining a silver Tea- spoon ; a blue serge butcher's Coat, light blue lining, ' Blacket, West Smithfield,' on tab; 3 rumps of Beef ; 1 loin do.; 2 pieces of Ribs ; 1 piece of thick Flank ; 1 Brisket; 2 hind quarters of Mutton ; 3 loius of do. ; and 1 loin and a side of Poik. Stolen by means of burglary on 9th instant, from a hotel in Sunderland :— about £ 20 in Gold and Silver, including an Italian silver Coin, and a Lion Shilling. Stolen by means of burglary, during night of 28th ult. :— a large [ silver lever Watch, nearly new, plain cases except a smali circle on back, cream coloured lace, maker ' Jas. Coakes, Wigan'; verge ditto, sizeable, plain cases, white, face, small dint, by ' Cobstall,' the numbers of the two are either of the following— 87,823, 34,029 or 3,112; a silver Albert, cut pattern, with Locket for appendage ; a common hair Albert with stone or glass attached-; a metal Albert, snake pattern, with Compass attached ; 8 Half Sovereigns, and a Sovereign. Two men are in custody in Denbigh on suspicion; a third suspected man is about 28 years of age, but looks youDger, 5 feet 7 or 8 itches tigh, light grey or blue eyes, oval face, fair complexion, light bair and light sandy moustache, medium build, a member of Militia, tattooed star on back of left hand, aijd do. ring, believed to be on one of fingers same hand. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING.] Stolen from a field at Clonstop, during the night of 14th instant:— a brown horse Pony, about 13 hands 2 inches high, aged. Supposed stolen from a field at By fleet, on 5th instant:— a roan gelding Cob, aged, about 13 hands high, rough coat, black lege, mane, and tail, chipped knees, ewe necked, and lapped ears, worth £ 0 or £ 6, the property of Mr. Summers, Weybridge. Information to Mr. Supt. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, CHERTSEY.— Bow- street, December 14. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT1! Stolen :- a heavy two- handled half- gallon nickle silver Wine Cup, embossed with roe. es, crest on one aide, ' a dog rampant,' and on the other side the letters ' B. C. P.' or ' F. U. R.' in monogram, old, valued at i' 20. By a man 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, cut mark right of UDder lip, a billiard player ; dressed in a brown Newmarket overcoat, lace- up boots, black billycock hat, and resided in London. Informa- tion to the Supeiiutendent, County Police Office, BOOTLE, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Decembar 21. Absconded, charged with stealing on 24th October last: — a squaie French strikirg Clock, no case, enamelled dial, ' No. 2159' on woiks; a small brass horizontal Time piece ; a ereen bronze Time- piece, verge movements: — JOHN WAYLEDGE, a German watchmaker, 50 years of age, 5 ft. 10 inches high, slight build, sallow complexion, grey eye?, dark brown hair, whisker?, and moustache ( turning grey), ecar on forehead ; dressed in black frcck coat, black cloth, trousers and vest, lace boots, hard felt hat, shabby appearance; ho is known at Dartmouth, and may be ft und at some provincial town. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, December 21. Stolen during the night of 11th instant, at Westbury, Wilts :— a pair of cheaply made light lace- up Boots, small man's size, nesrly new, bradded round heela and soles, double soles and toe- caps ; a small plum Pudding boiled in a basin ; an old alpacca Umbrella, faded and recently capped, knotted handle nearly straight, with imitation of ivory inlaid in knots ; and two speckled ribbed worsted stockings, nearly new, one larger than the other, and one has a seam up the bottom of the foot. Supposed by a tramp, from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, rather stout build, dark hair, small side whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin; dressed ia a tweed jacket-, speckled or grey colour, supposed fustian or moleskin trousers, and brown leather leggings. BROWN, alias BILLY, a tramping rag- gatherer, 30 to 33 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, and whiskers on sides of face, proportionate figure, has a large scald or burn mark on left side of face, covered by his whiskers ; dressed in black coat and vest, moleskin trousers, double peaked cloth cap. old elastic- side boots. And E03E ANN, alias ANN BROWN, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches higb, dark com- plexion, black hair, thick about the ears, slender figure, states she is the wife of the last named person ; dressed in blue dress, two flounces at bottom, striped " leeves, long black jacket and black hat, and is much addicted to drink. Description of THOMAS MOORE, errand boy, who absconded from" Birmingham, on 10th instant, charged on warrant with embezzling £ 3 8s.:— he is 16 years of age, medium height atd build, thin features, brown hair, dark eyes, sallow complexion; dressed in brown moleskin trousers, snuff- coloured jacket, and billycock hat; he ia well known at Chester, where he haa been apprehended for felony. Infor- mation to J. Farndale, Chief Constable, BIRMINGHAM.— Bow- street, December 19. Description of HENRY CLARKE, wanted on warrant for embezzling five Shillings, at Blackbeath near Dudley :— he is a cab driver, 32 years of age ( looks older), 5 ft. 2£ ins. high ( without shoes), fresh complexion, brown hair, clean shaved face, very large brown eyes, blind in one, stout build, cut marks back of 2nd left finger and inside left little finger, wound mark on right elbow and above right knee, a native of Cheltenham ; dressed in dark cloth overoeat, grey trousers and low cloth shoes, has worked in Leeds and Leicester. Description of BENJAMIN TAYLOR a travelling gipay, charged with larceny : - 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches higb, pale complexion, pockmarked, high cheek bones, small dark whiskers, brown hair, stoops at the shoulders, spare build ; dressed in soft billycock hat, old loDg brown top coat, tight fitting cord trousers, and strong laceup boots, travels with an old black horse, drawing a covered spring cait. Has a wife and three young children. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Hughes, HOLYWELL, Flintshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Dec. 17, Stolen at Dereham, on night of 10th instant:— a blue pilot Overcoat, fly front, checked lining. Also the same night at Yaxham :— a blue and white stripe Shirt; a white calico Ditto, plaited front; a white flannel Ditto; a white cotton under Ditto; a pair of grey cotton Stockings, marked on the top with four red dots, shape of a diamond ; a pair of brown cotton Socks, mended ; and a wild rabbit Skin. By a man, 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, blue eyea, dark hair, moustache, and complexion, hair parted in centre, impediment in his speech ; black cap with peak, was wearing the stolen coat when last seen at Diss, on 12th inst., when he stated he was going to Bury St. Edmunds ; is an active well made man, has been in the Royal Artillery, and a great athletic. Information to Mr. Supt. Symonds, Police Station, EAST DEREHAM, Norfolk.— Bow- street, December 17. Absconded from Southend on 11th instant, charged with stealing an Overcoat and seven Shillings ;— CHARLES EDGAR, a photohrapher, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches higb, sallow complexion, light brown hair, ginger moustache, no whiskers, large broad nose, haa served in the army, walks erect, but carriea his head a little forward ; dressed in tweed suit, pingle breasted Oxford coat and vest, and fly front trousers, black Pall Mall felt hat, and white muffler, all new, and long blue pilot cloth overcoat. Information to Mr. Supt. Hawtree, Police Station, SOUTHEND ON- SEA, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 17. Wanted on a warrant, charged with embezzlement:— ALFRED EDNEY, 1, Arundel Villa?, Mayea- road, Wood Green, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 cr 8 inches higb, sallow com- plexion, black hair, small whiskers and moustache, stoops when walking ; dressed in tweed suit. FRANCIS WARD BLOWER, a clerk, 17 yeara of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, hazel eyes, pale complexion, dark brown hair, slim build ; dressed respectably, resided with his father at Pembridge Villas, Eist Acton- lane, Middlesex. WILLIAM E. WATSON, 34 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, florid complexion, brown hair, cut short, fair moustache ; generally dressed iu blue yachting or sandy brown suit, cuta- way coat, and billycock hat. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Swadlincote, on 8th instant :— a silver verge Watch, plain case, dent on outside case, letters ' W. C.' inside, seconds hand, white dial, glass cracked, brasa Albert Chain, long twisted links, atd small imitation mariner's Compass attached. By a lodger, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, dark hair, slight dark moustache, no whiskers, dark eyes, scar on fourth finger of one hand ; dressed in dark p; lot jacket, dark ribbed clo. h trousers and vest, black hard felt hat, old elastic- side boots, worn down on outside heels, supposed to be wearing a black and white plaid woollen Muffler also stolen. Absconded on 5th instant, charged on warrant with stealing upwards of J£ 15 :— RICHARD BROOKS, a cashier, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, light hair, inclined to be sandy, light moustache, medium bu: ld, and stoops slightly when walking; was dressed in a dark grey suit, and round hard hat; for some time he waa a seaman oa board a sailing vessel trading between Liverpool and America. Information to John Jackson, E<- q., Chief Constable, SHEFFIELD, who holds warrant for Brooks' arrest .— Bow- street, December 17. Absconded from Holt, Bradford - on - Avon, about 18th ultimo, charged with embezzlement: — WILLIAM BOWYER, a gardener, or general servant, about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inchea high, light brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache, shaves on chin, browa eyes, wore a black bowler hat, and a dark rough cloth overcoat, was last seen on the G. W, B. platform at Pud ding ton. In- formation to Inspector Ghey, BRADFORD- ON- AVON," who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- ttreet, Dec. 14. Description of ROBERT ROWELL FERREMAN, charged with stealing a Field Glass, at Birmingham, on 23rd August last :— he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, well built, thiek set, short hair, round face, clean shaved ; well dressed in a brown suit; he was a clerk, and absconded on 7th instant. They had when arrested, several keys in their possession, and Ward was wearing a white linen shirt underneath a coloured one, the white shirt marked' 210 j 14' on collar. The names, & c. they gave are supposed fictitious, frcm the conversation that was overheard between them it is thought they have been in custody elsewhere, and as they are likely to bo re- arrested on another charge, it is iippdrtant to know their antecedents.
