ENGLISH POLICE. £ 20 REWARD. STOLEN from a pawn shop, at Miles Platting, between 10 40 P. M. on the 8th instant, and 6 10 A. M.! on tlio 10th instaut, viz. :_ 44 gold wedding rings; 33 gold keeper rings; 1 7 sets coral beads, gold snaps ;, 9 gold dress rings; 5 gold Albert guards; 2. silver guards; 4 gold brooches ; 1 gold brooch, with coral in centre ; 1 gold massive breast pin, horseshoe pattern; 1 silver breast pin; 4 gold lockets and chains; 1 silver locket and brooch ; 2 silver medals for Zulu war, each marked " Wolfendon"; 1 silver medal marked " Mitchell"; 1 gold oblong- shaped locket, diamond in centre ; also £ 157 10*. in gold, and £ 46 10*. in silver. The above reward will bo paid by the owner for the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered, and the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves. M., 7th instant, viz.:— One gent's black worsted morning coat, single breasted, lined with black Italian cloth, three pockets outsido and tickct pocket, one pocket inside right breast, and vest to match; one gent's dark blue melton morning coat, single breasted, pleated scams, lined with black satin quilting and Italian cloth, two pockets in skirts, one pocket outsido left breast, and one inside right- breast; one gent's black melton suck jacket, single breastod, und lined with black Italian cloth, black bono buttons, three pockets outside and ticket pocket,' and one inside right breast, " Hogan" on loop. All the above articles are part worn. One gent's old pair lace- up boots, with Morocco tops, and toe- caps, the tops have small holes in; ono bunch of small keys, one of which is " Hobb's;" one lady's gold dress ring, set with five pearls, two of whioh are lost; one pa? r of small Cornelian earrings, set in garnet and gold ; one pair of lady's button boots, kid tops, glossy kid, high heels ( size 3), nearly new; ono pair of brass knuckle- dusters. WANTED on a Bench Warrant, granted by the Judge at the Assize Court, York Castle, on the 14th instant, charged with perjury, John Bagen or Baigen, a gamekeeper, late of Brompton, near Scarborough, ih the North riding of Yorkshire:— From 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender build, sallow complexion, face very much freckled, auburn hair inclined to curl; sandy whiskers and moustache, downcast look, right shoulder up a little, hangs ' his head slightly down when- Walking, supposed to haVe been previously in the service of the Earl of Wicklow; lust iiPi gray tweed suit, same shape as generally worn by gamekeepers, black hard felt hat, and lace- up boots. This man has a wife and three children who followed him, and left here on tho 1st Octobor; wife about 30 years of age, about 5 feet high, stout build, sallow complexion, speaks with an Irish accent-; dressed in 1 a gray or brown winsey dress, black cloth jacket, black and white plaid shawl, black straw hat trimmed with black velvet, and elastic side boots. 1st child, a girl about 6 years of age, fair complexion, brown hair, stout full face; dressed in a gray winsey dress, gray Ulster, white straw hat trimmed with blue ribbon, and lace- up boots: 2nd child, u boy 4 years of age, light brown hair; dressed in a brown frock, gray Ulster coat, brown straw sailor hat with mixed verge, and lace boots. 3rd child, a boy 18 months old; wore a brown frock and black hood; wife carried him in her arms wrapped up in a black and white plaid shawl. Information to Mr. Superintendent SPEncE, North Riding Constabulary Office, Pickering; or to Inspector DOVE, County Police Office, Falsgrave, Scarborough, who holds a Warrant for his apprehen- sion. November 16 1883. ( 27498 M.— 50646.) £ 100 REWARD. WILFUL MURDER. WHEREAS, at 5 40 A. M. on Thursday, the 4th instant, the dead body of Jonas Bottomley, confectioner, Keighley, was found lying, face downwards, on the canal side, near Monk Bridge Forge, in this borough, and on medical examination, there were found a large wound on the forehead and another on the back of the head. There was missiug from his vest pocket ( supposed stolen) a medium- sized gold Geneva watch, silver gilt dial much worn, and flowered back also much worn. An inquest was held on the 18th instant, and a verdict of wilful murder returned against some person or persons, unknown. Notice is hereby given that the above reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not beiDg the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a'like result. '- T- N WANTED for the murder of John Dukes, in Hill- street, Birmingham, on the night of the 5th August, 1883, Martin M'Gann and William Ryan :— 1. Description of Martin M'Gann— About 21 years' of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, hair br. wn, com- plexion fair, slightly freckled, proportionate build; cut scar on left cheek; walks erect; speaks s) owly, wiih an Irish accent Dressed in a dark coat, brown trowsers, and silk handkerchief round his neck. Trade, wood button turner. 2. Description of William Ryan— Age 19, height 5 feet 6 or 7 inches, hair dark, complexion sallow, thin build,. Dressed, when last seen, in a dark cuta- way coat and black greasy trowsers. Trade, a brass caster. The above- named men absconded from Birming- ham on the 25th August last, both having lived in Grosvenor- street, Ladywood, Birmingham, and are well known in Essington- street, Birmingham, where they formerly resided. A verdict of wilful murder against M'Gann and Ryan was returned by the Coroner's Jury at the in- quest, held at Birmingham on the 13th September instant, and the Coroner has issued his Warrants for their apprehension. Notice is hereby given, that Her Majesty's Government offer a reward of £ 100 to any person other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and con- viction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. LICENCE- HOLDER, A 122, Samuel Anderson, alias John Hennessy or Murphy :—- A painter, native of Maryboro,' 76 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, gray hair, gray eyes, sallow complexion, oval features, lost nearly all his teeth, convicted at' Omagh, county Tyrone, 13th October, 1879, of larceny and previous conviction, and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; liberated from H. M. Convict Prison, Mountjoy, 12th ultimo. On the 13th ultimo he' reported himself at Liverpool, and stated he was going to Manchester, but has not reported himself there, and his present whereabouts is unknown. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. THEFT OF A CHEQUE FOR £ 29 15*. WANTED here on a Sherrifl's Warrant, charged with the theft of a cheque for £ 29 15*. from the office of his employers, Messrs. Montgomerie and Flemings, Writers, 241, Saint Vincent- street, on 13th instant, and which he same day got cashed at the Royal Bank of Scotland, St. Vincent- street, and absconded, Edward* Scott;— A clerk, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 J inches high, stout make, round face, fresh complexion, heavy dark moustache, otherwise cl^ an shaved ; dressed in a dark suit, brown overcoat, and black felt hat; smart and gentlemanly appearance ; is of loose habits, and likely to seek the company of prostitutes ; resided at 22, Lyndoch- street. Police Officers are requested to have particular search and inquiry made for accused at hotels, shipping offices, aud other likely places, and if foupd to arrest and wire to the subscriber, when an Officer will be sent for him. WANTED here'on a Sherriff's Warrant, charged with having, on the 2nd inst., fraudulently obtained £ 42 from Wyllie and Lochhead, Buchanan- street, Cameron M'Leod:— A clerk, between 45 and 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender made, thin face, sallow complexion, dark hair, dark moustache, no beard or whiskers; dressed in a small checked dark tweed jacket suit and dark tweed Ulster; smart appearance, carries a walking stick. He has a deep scar from bullet wound on right temple, and was a Paymaster Sergeant in 71st Regiment up till 1879. ii Police officers aro requested to have particular search and inquiry made for accused at hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and if found to arrest and wire to the subscriber, when an officer will bo sent for him. WANTED, for burglary at Holyhead on the 30th ultimo, William Patrick Reilly, Supervisee D 808 Age 28 years, height 5 feet inches, proportionate built, dark hair, gray eyes, two blue marks between leftthumband forefinger, marks offloggingon back, left ankle fractured, numerous scars on head and hands, and cut- mark on cheek; convicted at Beaumaris Assizes, 12th July, 1877, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude, and 5 years' Police Supervision. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned, who stands charged with having stolen sundry sums of money, the property of the Guardians of the South Dublin Union, by whom he was employed as a Collector of Rates:— William Atkinson, about 35 years of age, 5 - faet 8 inches high, stout build, brown hair, no whiskers, heavy brown moustache, round fresh face covered with blotches ; dressed respectably in dark clothos and tall silk hat. He was at one time Master of the South Dublin Union Workhouse. He was last seen here on Thursday, the 11th instant. DESCRIPTION of James Fox, native of Ballon, county Carlow, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1883, in the barony of Forth, parish of Myshall, stolen four sheep, the property of different persons, names not yet known:— Square shoulders, very active appearance, gray eyes, cocked nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; wore a round hat, dark Tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, all one suit; is a herd. DESCRIPTION of John O'Brien, native of Dublin, who is in custody, charged with having, on the 3rd day of December, 1883, in the barony of Clonkee, parish of Bailieboro', stolen from James Coyle the sum of £ 5 is. 7at the fair of Bailieboro'; he may have committed crime elsewhere, as he refuses to give a satisfactory account of himself:— Pimples on face near nose, speaks with a slight Scotch accent, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 33 years of age, sandy bushy whiskers and moustache ; wore a dark brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. DESCRIPTION of John Kelly ( no fixed residence), who stands charged with having on the 19th No- vember, 1883, in the barony of Bunratty Lower, parish of Kilnasoolagh, stolen a number of rabbits, the property of Lord Inchiquin, of Dromoland: — Slovenly gait, deep mark of an old cut on nose and cheek, gray eyes, cocked nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet. 6 or 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair: wore a low sofc hat, black coat, cord trowsers, and black vest. DESCRIPTION of cattle which were stolen from the farm of the late Miss Ellen O'Leary, in the townland of Clonroad, parish of Druracliffe, oounty of Clare, on the 8th December, 1883 -.— Two Kerry heifers, 3 years old, black and white, straight horns; two heifers, 2J years old, all red; two heifeys, year3 old, strawberry colour; one bullock, 2 years old, strawberry colour; one bullock, 2 years ol4, black and white; three calves, 9 months old, all red; one calf, 9 months old, spotted red ajid white. DESCRIPTION of James Regan, native place uuknown, who stands charged with having, on the 16th November, 1883, in the barony of Cork, parish of Holy Trinity, passed two base florins, and is returned for trial to Winter Assizes to be held in Cork on 7th prox. There is every reason to believe he is a returned convict, or was convicted before, and may possibly be known to the Police in either Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, or London:— Rupture on right side of abdomen, slightly knock- kneed, turns out his toes when walking, speaks with an English accent, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 60 years of age, gray hair ; wore a soft felt hat, blue pilot pea jacket, cord trowsers, and barragan vest, black and white woollen muffler, and strong laced boots ; lost several teeth. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Leahy ( mother's surname Leahy), native of Fevatia, who stands charged with having, on the 4th December, 1883, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Castleisland. seriously assaulted Patrick Herlihy, so as to endanger his life :— Deeply pockmarked, speaks with a drawling voice; gray eyes, large nose, swarthy complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, jet black hair; wore a hard black hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Deady, native of Bally- knockane, who, on the 2Gth November, 1883, in the barony of Corkaguiny, parish of Kilquane, left his house at Ballyknockane, and has not since been heard of, and it is feared some harm has befallen him :— Hare lip, deaf and dumb, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 70 years of age, gray hair ; wore a hard woollen hat, flannel trowsers and vest; is a small farmer. M. on the 7th instant, the vestry of the Roman Catholic Church at Celbridge was broken into and the following articles stolen:— 1. A silver chalice, gilt on inside, about 9 inches high, gilding worn off at bottom. 2. A small silver chalice, about 7 inches high, with the inscription oh bottom " Presented to the parish of Celbridge " and a date ( about 100 years ago). 3. A silver pyx, about 4 inches in diameter, and 2 inches deep in tho centre. 4. A large quantity of gold lace and gold orna- ments ripped from off the priest's vestments ( about 100 yards), varying from 1. to 2 inches wide; also some gold fringe from 2 to 4 inches deep. . DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 12th or morning of the 13th November, 1883, in the barony of Clane, parish of Caragh, stolen one bullock and one heifer, the property of Peter Byrne, of Donore:— Medium make, about 5 feet 11 inches high, about 40 years cBge, chin shaven, had whiskers and beard under his chin ; wore a dark coat and tweed trowsers; had the appearance of a farmer. , Naas, December 5, 1883. William Tegan ( attempt to commit a rape), not arretted; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1888. DESCRIPTION of James Morrissey ( mother's name Mary Cashin), native of Smithstown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1883, in a public liouse, at Mullinavat, in the barony of Knock- topher, parish of Kilbeacon, seriously assaulted James Dollard, by striking him on the forehead with a glass tumbler, from the effects of which his life is now in imminent danger, though he did not complain thereof until 16th instant:— Has a cut ( which may be now healed) on the palm of right hand, from the effects of the tumbler breaking therein when striking Dollard, clean face without either beard or whiskers, gray or blue eyes, regalar nose, fair complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 7£ inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, browsers, and vest; is a farm labourer, and it is believed he left for America on 10th instant. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 6th or morning of 7th December, 1888, in the barony of Coshlea, parish of Effin, feloniously etolen a cart, the property of Thomas Ryan, of Garrankea :— Small tender eyes, sallow . complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 50 years of age ; wore a black Jim Crow hat, whitish coat, dark trowsers, and old vest. Description of the cart:— A new cart, painted red, labelled T. Ryan on off side, one of the wheels newly shod, the shoeing of the other wheel welded in two places, one of the boxes fastened with wedges; and now worn by linch- pins, has long heels, which may now be cut short j value for about £ 8. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Clarke ( mother's surname Lenaghan), native of Runnabol, who stands charged • with having, on the 17th day of October, 1883, in the barony of Frenchpark, parish of Kilmacumsey, dangerously assaulted Patrick Beirne, from the effects Of which his life was in danger:— Mark of an old cut on forehead, a hollow on crown of head from the effect of a stroke of a stoue, rather short heck, and slightly stooped, dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 6 inches high, about 35 year3 of age, dark brown hair; wore a dark round hat, brown tweed boat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer.
