The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. A Description, at accurate as possible, Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Nutford on 9lh instant:— a pepper and salt coloured cloth Coat, pocket each side ; a pair of Trousers, same pattern, man's size ; a blue cloth pilot Jacket, velvet co'lar, pocket each side, and one inside of right breast; a red and blue silk Handkerchief. StoLn by means of burglary, ou 8th instant, at Winslow : — an o'd double- breasted brown cloth Overcoat, with velvet collar, pockets at sides, lining of coat repaired in several places ; a pair of men's old lace- up Boots, nailed and tipped, toe and heel, and an old hark black felt hat. Also from a hamper in an open shed, on the same premises: — 2 new cloth fly- front Chesterfield Overcoats, either grey or drab colour, lined with r car let and black plaid lining, size 11 and 14, to fit youths. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen at Kersley on 7th instant, by a grcom, named WM. NIXON, alias CLOUT, now in custody with stealing Iier:— a Mare, 25 hands high, aged, white mark on breast, inside cf heel of near hind foot is white and the off hind leg is a dirty white inside; has a [ small lump near off sbou'der- blade, stands over very much on forelegs, both knees brown, and rough dirty coat. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, BOLTON.— Bow- ttreet, November 16. Stolen from a field at Yardley, on 31st ultimo, the pro- perty of James Cotterill:— a dark brown Horse, 14 handa 3 inches high, 6 years old, black points, rough coat, tail cut square, and in good condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Yardley, A COCKS GREEN, near Birmingham. — Bov>- street, November 16. Supposed stolen from a field at Blyth Bridge, during the night of 3rd instant:— a black Filly, 3 years old, shod all round, brand mark ' 8' on near forefoot; also a Horse, rising 2 years old, white star on forehead, and a little white on one hind f< oot, and a brand mark ' 8 ' on near forefoot. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Wanted at Ipswich, charged on warrants with stealirg a Piano and an American Organ, since recovered, the property of Messrs. Godball and Thurston, music sellers, & c. :— two men who gave the name of J. ROBINSON, & F. ROBERTS, their real names being GEORGE BUTCHER, and MURTON, alias ALEXANDER JONES :- Bu. ; lier is the son of an ex police officer, who formerly lesided in Bury St. Edmunds, and may be found ia the company of Alice Sceiy, suppoied to have been living at 32, Westmorland- road, Bays- water, London, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight moustache, light brown hair, fresh looking, thin build ; dressed in dark suit. MurtoD, alias Jones, is the son of a farmer residing at Somerton, Suffolk, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, thin build, dark hair and moustache ( believed to be false) ; sometimes wears a light, and at other times a dark suit. They left Ipswich by the 130 p. m. train, on 6th instant, calling at Colchester, when there, one of the two obtained from Mr. D- ce, an Harmonium, and they thea proceeded by the 6 47 p. m. train to Chelmsford, and sold the instrument to Mr. Rippon ia that town, and left next day by the 12' 47 p. m. train, going in the direction of London ; had with them a large b'ack portmanteau, with the letters ' C. B.' upon it, and two carpet bag', one a very long one ; obtained piano and organ by hiring for a month, and paying hire in advance. Information to H. R. Russell, Lieut.- Col,, Chief Constable, Town Hall, IPSWICH, Suffolk, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, November 16. Description of WALTER A. HINTON, baker, charged on a warrant with embezzlement, who absconded from Bir- mingham on 10th instant:— he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, pale complexion, clean face, brown hair, and spare build; dressed ia black ooat, grey trousers, low felt billycock hat, and an old police overcoat. He has friends in the towns of Nottingham, Derby, and Kidderminster, also in America and Canada. f Information to J. Fartdale, Chief Constable, BIRMINGHAM.— Bow- street, November 16. Stolen from a dwelling- bouse at Patricrof, between 11.45 p. m. 12th aud 10 a. m. 13th instant :— a pair of men's black woollen ribbed Trousers, fly fronts, black iron buttons, 2 pockets front; a Vest of same material; a dark brown Coat, pocket on each side, lined with b'aik lustre ; a pair of low Shoes; a black hard pot Hat; a white turned down linen Collar ; a dralo satin Necktie, red spots with a silver Pin. By a private'! n the l et Battalion West Riding Regiment, stationed at Halifax, Yorkshire, who was on leave of absence from the 10th to 11.55 p. m. 12th instant, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light brown hair, small light moustache, slender build; he left the following articles of clothing behind him, a pair of trousers, tunic, great co% t,' leather belt, waict belt and plate, a pair of elastic- side boits and a brown tweed vest; no doubt he will be wearing the stolen property. Wanted at Malvern, on a charge of stealirg a chimney- sweeping Machine, on 9th instant:— a tramping Chimney Sweeper, about 44 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and hair, dark or hazel eyes, shaves his face, except a bit on chin, a Scotch girl taltcoad on inside of right arm, near the wrist; he is a Cockney, and has been a sailor; dressed in a dark cloth round jacket, corduroy trousers, ai d waistcoat, with brass shank buttons OD, nailed boots, burst at the back?. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Police Office, UPTON- ON- SEVERN, or to Serg. C. Drury, Police Office, MAL" ERN. — Bowttreet, November 16. Stolen at Buislem on 6th instant:— a man's dark rough Overcoat, velvet collar, black lining, pockets on hips with flaps, one inside left breast, worn :— By JOHN THOMAS, alias RADFORD and JONES, a carter, 36 years of age, 5 ft. 2 inches high, sandy hair and moustache, no whiskers, fresh face, stout build, bow- legged, one arm shorter than the other, ciused by any injury to his shoulder ; dressed in black cap with button at lop, guernsey, moleskin trousers, and elistic- side boots. May be wearing the stolen Coat. Supposed a native of Baiton- under- Needwood. He spoke of going to Leeds. Inform\ tion to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill. BURSLEM, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, November 16. Charged with embezzling various sums of Money, at Oreston, Plymstock, Devon :— a man, a native of PJymstock, Devon, baker. 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout, build, rather round shouldered, light brown hair, aEd to whiskers, dark full face, smt>. ll nose, grey eyes ; usually wears a grey overcoat, dark coat, vest and trousers, round poll hard hat, and elastic- side boots. Information to Major E. Brutton, Supt, Devon Constabulary, H Division, STONEIIOUSE, Devonshire.— Bow- street, November 16. Stolen fiom Mepal, Isle of E'y, on 5th instant :— a white cotton Shirt; a pxir . of worsted Stockings; a flannel Waist Belt; and 2 II an kerchiefs. By SILAS MURREY, alias WILLIAM SILAS, of Chippenham, Cambs, late of Welches Dam, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, copper com- plexion, black curly hair and whisktr. j, lound face, and imperial: dressed in dirty fustian clothes and light cap And CORNELIUS PAULTER, of Welches Dam, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, and Bmall whiskers ; shaves chin ; dressed in white slop and cap ; both, are discharged soldiers. Absconded from Crickhowell, on 23rd ultimo, charged with stealing a glazier's Diamond ( recovered) :— a painter, from 30 to 33 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, slight, upright built, fresh complexior, brown hair, small light moustache, no whiskers or beard ; dressed in a brown woollen Cardigan jacktt, blue cloth trousers, lace- up boots, and a grey or brown tweed hat. Information to Mr. Supt. J. Joseph, CRICKHOWEL', Breconshire.— Bow- street, November 16. Charged with stealing a Shirt ( reiovered):— a man, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light o>- sandy hair, very slight whiskers, stands very upright, and has a great number of red pimples on bis face and neck ; dressed in black billycock, small white handkerchief round his neck, black cloth coat and vest, brown trousers ( supposed moleskin), old boots with pieces cut out of the sides, and polished. Absconded from Horsham, on 1st instant, charged on a warrant with stealing a cheque for £ 9 5s. 3d., cashed at the London and County Bank, Horsham :— E D WIN EDWARDS, labourer, 25 years cf age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dai i brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dtcssed in dark brown jacket and trousers, and hard black felt ha1-. Information to Mr. Supt. L. B. Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, HORSHAM.— — Bow- itreet, November 16. Stolen at Broseley, Salop, on 8th instint:— a dark grey wool and cotton. Shawl ( mixed); a black and white plaid. Shawl; a grey Neck- handeichief; a Chemise; an old wicker Basket; |- lb. of Tea; and 2 lb. of loaf Sugar. By a woman who had lodged in the house for a week, about 56 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, grey hair, has a mark across her nose ; wearing the black and white plaid Shawl, light winsey dress, black hat, trimmed with black crape, and stroDg lace- up boots. She tramps the country and calls upon respectable inhabitants to beg, and says she is unable to work, having had a cancer cut out of her breast. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers, BRIDGNORTH, or to Serg. Davies, WEN- LOCK, Salop.— Bow- street, November 14. Absconded, about 1st instant, charged with embezzle- ment :- JOHN LONG, 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, bloated features, and dark hair, turn- ing grey ; dressod in dark blue overcoat, grey jacket, light c. rd trousers, brown eoft stitched hat, and speaks with country ' accent ; mother resides at Petworth, Sussex. May be found at Westerham, Sevenoaks, Eden bridge, Tatsfield, or Pet worth. Warrant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, S. W.—• Metropolitan Police, November 14. CHARLES MOORE, advertised in the Police Gazette if 7th Jan, 1881, as being wanted for stealing a Watch at Oswestry ; also in Police G » zette of 16th and 27th July last in the name of CHARLES HENRY MOORE, wanted for Watch stealing at Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, was appre- hended at Manchester on 3rd inttau% and is remanded at Oswestry until 12< h instant. He was convicted of Watch stealing at Manchester October 1865, sentence 12 months; again in Feb. 1871, sentence 18 mouths. Seven pawntickets were found on him, relative to Watches pledged by him at Manchester, Bury, and other places, during the last 3 months. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, OSWESTRY, Salop.— B w- sireet, November 12. Charged with stealing a Jacket; a double- breasted blue pilot Jacket, grey lining, black bone buttons, two pockets outside skiits, and one inside left breast, has been burned out- ide right pocket ( worn), has Ie; n a North Stafford Railway pointman's jacket, at Silverda'e, on 8th instant :—& mar, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, stout build ; dressed in short dark blue jacket, dark brown c ird vest and trousers, and black cloth cap, with leather peak ; had the appearance of an engine driver, very shabby. Information to Sergeant John Locker, SILVHRDALE, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 12. Charged with embezz^ ment: — WILLIAM LOWE, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, light moustache, no whiskers, fresh complexion, stout build, and broad shouldered ; may seek a situation as clerk, in a woollen warehouse, and assume the name of NORTH. Information* to Chief Inspector Norteliff, Detective Department, Town Hall, LEEDS.— Bow- street, November 12. Charged with stealing au Umbrella ( reaovered), on 6th instant -.— JOSEPH DEAN, 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 inche 2 P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. November 16 high, dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, and whiskers under chin ; dressed ia a dark coat and hat, and supposed cord trousers ; has a pedlar's certiScate for Bucks, taken out about 1st ultimo, and generally goes about mend- ing umbrellas. Information to the Police Sergeant, GREAT MARLOW, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, November 12. Stolen from a bed- room at the Star Inn, the Quay, Gloucester, on the morning of 8th instant:— a lady's single- cased silver Geneva Watch, No. 13248, white dial, steel hands, gold Locket, ivy leaves one side, and ' S. D.' on the other, con- taining a lady's photo ; a Half Sovereign ; two Half Crowns; three Florins ; a Shilling ; and a Threepenny Piece. By JOHN PIGEON, alias FARMER, a native of Pendock, Worcestershire, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ius. high, brown hair and moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in an old plaid jacket, cord trousers and vest, black bowler hat, lace- up boots, white muffler, with imitation of dogs on ; in 1875, he was in the Gloucester Militia, and was billeted at the Star, and since that time has worked for a Mv. Green, farmer, of Pendock ; he also goes about the country with horse dealers, and probably may now be working for a man named Pike, who formerly resided at Pendock. Informa- tion to Deputy Chief Constable Chipp, Police Office, GLOUCESTER, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- fireet, November 12. Description of THOMAS HANLEY, a mechanic or stone mason, wanted on warrant for stealing from a dwelling house at South Kirkby, on 3rd instant:— a blue pilot cloth Jacket, black bone buttons, 3 pockets outside, and a pocket inside right breast; a pair of black worsted cord Trousers ; a grey un; on Shirt, white bone buttons ; a pair of dark blue Stockings ; a pair of Braces ; a pair of light lace- up Boots ; a hard black felt billy cock Hat; a pocket Book ; a coloured Handkerchief; a meerschaum Pipe; a red India rubber tobacco Pouch; and a silver Guard, link pattern. He is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, freBh complexion, blue eyes, ginger hair, medium build, has two lumps on the back of left wrist; is a native of Barnsley. Information to Mr. Supt. Thomas Whincup, West Biding Constabulary, PONTE- FRACT, Yorkshire. Bow- street, November 9. Description of WRIGHT ATKINSON, a clerk, charged • with embezzlement, who absconded on 3lst ultimo, and will endeavour to leave the country : — he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, slender made, pale complexion, dark brown hair, dark moustache, which he may shave off, no whiskers, rather large eyes, slow of speech, slightly bow legged, and rather smart appearance ; usually dressed in reddish brown tweed suit, cr in black cloth euit, both coats are short loose- fitting ones, hard black billycock hat. neck scarf, and white stand- up collar. Information to Mr. Holgate, Chief Constable, BOLTON.— Bow- street, November 7. Description of JOSEPH BAKER, ' charged " with em- bezzling £ 16 14s., and other Monies, received by him for the ' Singer Manufacturing Company' in June last:— he is about 30 years of age, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches higb, and stout inclined, ruddy complexion, brown thick curly hair, short whiskers, beard, and moustache, and is given to driak ; he is a smith, and supposed to be working at his trade at or near Birming- ham. His parents reside at Cheltenham. Information to Mr. Geo. Songhurst, Head Constable, BARNSTAPLE, who holds warrant.— Bow- street, November 7. Absconded from Winchester, on 4th instant, charged a warrant with embezzling £ 9 8s. 3d. :— FREDERICK HICKS, a brewer's drayman, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache, slight build and long thin face ; dressed in brown tweed cutaway coat, cap of same material, white moleskin trousers and nailed boots ( nearly new) ; he belonged to the 1st Class Army Reserve. Informa- tion to Mr. W. Morton, Head Constable, City Police Station, WINCHESTER, Hants,— Bow- street, Novimber 7. Stolen from an Inn, in Kidderminster, between 8 and closing time on 3rd instant:— about £ 45 in Gold ; eight Crown Pieces ; £ 1 in small silver Coins, chiefly Sixpences ; a silver Watch ; a gold wedding Ring ; and a Pocket Book, containing two I O U's, and two Bond Notes, relating to two barrels of whiskey, from Mr. Dawson's, Union- passage, Bir- mingham. Suspicion is attached to three . men, one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, and alight dark moustache ; dressed in dark suit, had two coats on, the outside one trimmed with broad military braid, and appeared to be too small; 2nd, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, dark moustache, dark hair, and small dark side whiskers; 3rd, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight build ; dressed in dark clothes, and of smart appearance. A jemmy was left in the bed room. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Haigh, Town Hall, KIDDERMINSTER.— Bow- street, November 7. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Obtained by false pretence on 27th ultimo, from Ada Elphinstone Burchard, at Maresfield, Sussex :— 3 Shillings. By a man, who gave the name of ARTHUR STANHOPE, alias McALLISTER, from 20 to 25 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, pale delicate appearance, lost left eye, brown hair cut short, no whiskers or moustache, slight fig- are; dressed in a light jacket and vest, black and white striped trousers, brown hard felt hat, boots with broad toes, has been lodging at 19, Artillery Street, Brighton, for about a fort- night, but left suddenly on the 3rd instant, at his lodgings he stated that he was travelling for Mr. Peters, carriage builder, Oxford Street, London. He has obtained several sums of money from gentlemen in this neighbourhood under the pre- tence that he wanted to raise £ 3 10s. to purchase a glass eye. Information to Mr. Supt. Peerless, UCKFIELD, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, Nov. 16. Charged with obtaining Money by false pretences, at Newchuroh, on 12th instant:— a man, 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, rather slender build, little or no whiskers, and walks lame ; dressed in dark clothing,. He left New- church by traiD. It has sines been ascertained that he at several places stated he was selling for an Oldham firm ; he appeared to be a regular brush hawker. Please cause search and inquiry for the above person, who, no doubt, is tramping the country, obtaining money in this way. He is most likely the man described en route from Blackburn County Police Office on 6th instant, as wanted there for a similar offence. Information to Mr. Supt. Henderson, BACUP.— Bow- strett, November 16, Absconded, charged with obtaining a situation by means of a forged certificate of character :— ALFRED COMYNS, a butler, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches higb, medium build, dark hair, and ( slight) whiskers, inclined to Btcop ; dressed in dark clothes. Supposed to have obtained another situation1 in Sussex, or about 15 miles beyond Barnet. Wife resides at Mount Vernon, Hampstead. Warraut issued.
