Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without thit information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 1C0 REWARD. WILFUL MURDER. WHEREAS, at 5 40 AM. on Thursday, the 4th instant, the dead body of Jonas Bottomley, confectioner, Keighley, was found lying, face downwards, on the canal side, near Monk Bridge Forge, in this borough, and on medical examination, there wero found a large wound on the forehead and another on the back of the head. There was missing from his vest pocket ( supposed stolen) a medium- sized gold Geneva watch, silver gilt dial much Worn, and flowered back also much worn. An inquest was held on the 18th instant, and a verdict of wilful murder returned against some person or persons unknown. Notice is hereby given that the above reward will bo paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of. Hfcr Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a liko result. WANTED for thovmurder of John Dukes, in Hill- streot, Birmingham, on the night of the 5th August, 1883, Martin M'Gann and William Ryan :— 1. Description of Martin M'Gann— About 21 years ofage, 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, hair brown, com- plexion fair, slightly freckled, proportionate build; cut scar on left chedk ; walks erect; speaks slowly, with an Irish accent. Dressed in a dark coat, brown trowsers, and silk handkerchief round his neck. Trade, wood button turner. 2. Description of William Ryan— Age 19, height 5 feet 6 or 7 inches, hair dark, complexion sallow, thin build. Dressed, when last seen, in a dark cuta- way coat and black greasy trowsers. Trade, a brass caster. The above named men absconded from Birming- ham on tho 25th August last, l » mh having lived in Grosvenor- street, Ladywood, Birmingham, and are well known in Essington- street, Birmingham, where they formerly resided. A verdict of wilful murder against M'Gann and Ryan was returned by the Coroner's Jury at the in- quest, held at Birmingham on the 13th September instant, and the Coroner has issued his Warrants for their apprehension. Notice is hereby given, that Her Majesty's Government offer a reward of £ 100 to any person other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the Unitod Kingdom who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and con- viction of the murderer or murderers, aud the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give sueh evidence as shall lead to a like result. LICENCE- HOLDER, A 122, Samuel Anderson, alias John Hennessy or Murphy:— A painter, native of Maryboro,' 76 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, gray hair, gray eyes, sallow complexion, oval features, lost nearly all his teeth, convicted at Omagh, county Tyrone, 13th October, 1879, of larceny and previous conviction, and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; liberated from H. M. Convict Prison, Mountjoy, 12th ultimo. On the 13th ultimo he reported himself at Liverpool, and stated he was going to Manchester, but has not reported himself there, and his present whereabouts is unknown. Information to GEORGE. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. FRAUD OF £ 42. WASTED here on a Sherriff's Warrant, charged with having, on the 2nd inst., fraudulently obtained £ 42 from Wyllie and Lochhead, Buchanan- street, Cameron M'Leod :— A clerk, between 45 and 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender made, thin face, sallow complexion, dark" hair, dark moustache, no beard or whiskers ; dressed in a small checked dark tweed jacket suit and dark tweed Ulster; smart appearance, carries a walking stick. He has a. deep scar from bullet wound on right temple, and was a Paymaster Sergeant in 71st Regiment up till 1879. Police officers are requested to have particular search and inquiry made for accused at hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and if found tp arrest and wire to the subscriber, when an officer will be sent for him. WANTED here on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with the embezzlement of £ 32, the property of his employer, Mr. W. A. Kinghorn,. Commission Agent, No. 93, Hope- street, Douglas H. Lamb :— A clerk, native of London, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, reddish fair hair, very slight fair moustache, small side whiskers, a little shortsighted and usually wears eyeglasses; dressed in dark gray coat and vest, light tweed trowsers, and round felt hat, generally wears stand- up collars, and had in his possession when he absconded a dark overcoat and yellow leather Gladstone bag; his mother, Mrs. M. A. E. Lamb, resides at No. 29, Dartmouth, Park- road, Highgate- road, London, N. W., and when in Glasgow he resided at 136, Stirling road. Accused absconded on 16th instant, and before leaving spoke of going to Auckland, New Zealand. Police officers are roquested to have particular search and inquiry made for accused at hotels, shipping offices, and other likely places, and if found to arrest and wire to the subscriber, when an officer will be sent for him. Adam Archibald, Hugh White, and Edward Slaven, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 25th August, 1883, arc still at large, and the Constabulary are requested to make every possible effort to arrest them. WANTED, for burglary at Holyhead on tho 30th ultimo, William Patrick Reilly, Supervisee D 806 : — Age 28 years, height 5 feet inches, proportionate built, dark hair, gray eyes, two blue marks between left thumb and forefinger, marks offloggingon back, left ankle fractured, numerous scars on head and hands, and cut- mark on cheek; convicted at Beaumaris Assizes, 12th July, 1877, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude, and 5 years' Police Supervision. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned, who stands charged with having stolen sundry sums of money, the property of the Guardians of the South Dublin Union, by whom he was employed as a Collector of Rates:— William Atkinson, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, brown hair, no whiskers, heavy brown moustache, round fresh face covered with blotches ; dressed respectably in dark clothes and tall silk hat. He was at one time Master of the South Dublin Union Workhouse. He was last seen here on Thursday, the 11th instant. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Frederick Germaine, convicted at Dublin, county of the city of Dublin, at Trinity Sessions, on 14th July, 1882, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 25 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a teacher, born in Yorkshire, resided before conviction in Dublin, his friends Reside in Leeds; brown hair, brown eyes, dark eyebrows, long and thin nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 4} inches high. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 13th July, 1883, on licence, and went to reside at 24, Charlotte- street, Dublin, which place he lias left without notifying change to the Police. He is supposed to have gone to Belfast. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 3t & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, September 5, 1883. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned juvenile offender, who absconded on 20th instant, at about one o'clock, while proceeding to the Reformatory from Naas Prison :— Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pretty stout make, sallow complexion, fair hair, gray eyes, nose a little turned up, round visage, heavy countenance, small mark of an old cut above right eye on forehead, and THE POLICE GAZETTE, OS HUE- AND- CRY, NOVEMBER 9, 1383. small wart on loft side of upper lip, formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry; his parents are dead. The dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of cord trowsers, cord sleeved vest, jerry hat, strong nailed boots fastened by strap and buckle, and blay cotton socks. Tho absconder is likely to enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to tho nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward tho person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRiPriONof John Mooney, native of Gortreighey, who stands charged with having, on the 1st Novem ber, 1883, in the barony of Kilconway, parish of Rasharkin, stolen from the dwelling: house of John Doherty, of Cushybrackin, three £ 1 notes, Nos. not known — Gray eyes, regular iiose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 14 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray two- peaked cap, dark frock coat, dark trowscrs and vest, much worn ; is a farmer's son. It is thought he has gone to Scotland. Warrant in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Rasharkin for his arrest. Ballymena, November 5, 1883. ( 58641 o 0277,) DESCRIPTION of James M'Gregor ( mother's surname Stephenson), native of Tavnaghdrissagh, parish of Layd, county Antrim, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd September, 1883, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Tickmacreevan, stolen from the person of John M'Callion a silver lever watch, croam colour dial, No. 20,049, maker James Orr, Ballymena ;— Dark eyes, long nose, dark com- plexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high) about 28 years of age, dark hair, wore all his beard which is dark, black moustache; wore a velvet cap, dark frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a miller, sometimes works in iron foundry. DESCRIPTION of a watch found on Hugh Williamson, who has been convicted of stealing another watch, at Bclfust, on 26th September, 1883, and for which no ownor can be fouud;— Silver Geneva watch, No. 79664, brass dome, cream and white face, has a second hand. DESCRIPTION of George Redmond, na- tive of Ferns, county Wexford, who stands charged With having, on the 24th 0/ etr> 3er, 1883, in tho barony of Kilma- crenan, parish of Conwal, escaped frora Letterkenny Bridewell when awaiting his trial 5rbr larceny of clothing from the dwelling- house of George Brown, of Drumganty, county Tyrone :— Smf ill tender eyes, slightly hooked nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, light brown hair, slight, hairs growing on his jaws; wore a tweed cap, old torn blue frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and old blue vest, had no boots or shirt on when he escaped ; is a tramp ; states he was a sailor. DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Thurles, , county Tipperary, who is in custody, charged with having, on the 23rd of October, 1883, in the barony of Newry, parish of* Newry, stolen a gold watch and chain, and who may have committed offences elsewhere:— Prominent under lip, and narrow chin, very delicate appearance, dark full eyes, long nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a jeirry hat, brown waterproof coat, brown trowsers, and blue vest; is a servant. DESCRIPTION of James Morrissey, native of Smiths- town, who, stands charged with having, on the 29 th September, 1883, at Mullinavat, in the barony of Knocktopher, parish of Kilbacon, seriously assaulted James Dollard, from the effects of which his life is in danger:— May have fresh cut- marks on right hand, gray eyes, straight nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 21 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft black hat, black frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of James Morrissey ( mother's name Mary Cashin), native of Smithstown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1883, in a public house, at Mullinavat, in the barony of Knock- topher, parish of Kilbeacon, seriously assaulted James Dollard, by striking him on the forehead with a glass tumbler, from the effects of which his life is now in imminent danger, though he did not complain thereof until 16th instant:— Has a cut ( which may be now healed) on the palm of right hand, from the effects of the tumbler breaking therein when striking Dollard, clean face without either beard or whiskers, gray or blue eyes, regalar nose, fair complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 7J inches high, about 20 years of DESCRIPTION of Walter Meally, nf/ e of Crutt, Castlecomer, who stands charged J .< having, on the 15 th August, 1883, in thebaronjf x Fassidinnon, parish of Castlecomer, seriously assaulted John Ryan, of Moneenroe :— May have small blue marks on face result of coal cuts; hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round- face, rather stout make, 6 feet 9^ inches high, about 25 years of age; wore a soft cap, dark coat and trowsers ; is a coal miner. DESCRIPTION of Mary Shanaghan and' Patrick Shanaghan, natives of 2 If, Meath- street, Dublin, who stand charged jvith having, on the 20tli OctoBcr, 1883, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Birr, stolen two shawls out of a draper's shop at Parsonstown :— 1. Wants an upper front tooth, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 8 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark cloak and old dark dress ; is a travelling gambler. 2. Marks of old cuts under right eye, large ears, brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, wiry medium make, 6 ieet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a jerry hat, light coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a travelling gambler- NOTE.— There is no charge against Patrick Shanaghan ; he is husband to No. 1. Constabulary, Parsonstown, DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native placo unknown, who stands chargcd with having, on thq 14th day of September, 1883, in the barony of Coolestown, parish of Monasteroris, townland of Edenderry, refused to give any account of himself,:— Dressed as a monk, clean shaved face, heavy under jaws, strong teeth rather large and irregular, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft hat, blue dress coat, black cloth trowsers, and black vest. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Faughnan ( mother's surname Hearon), native of Glosdrummon, who stands charged with having, on the night of 6 th October, 1883, in the barony of Mohill, parish of Cloone, being one of a party who attacked the dwelling- house of John Boyle, of Edergole and seriously assaulted Boyle and his wife:— Wild gray eyes, regular nose, ruddy complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft low hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a fawners son. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Molony, alias James Ryan, native of Castleconnell, who stands charged with having, on tho 26th October, 1883, in the barony of Coshma, parish of Adare, stolen from the residence of Patrick O'Donnell, of Islanden, the following articles, of wearing apparel:— One brown tweed frock coat, one pair shepherd plaid trowsers and vest, and one pair of shoes:— Smart appearance, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 19 years of age; is a servant boy. DESCRIPTION of Samuel Purvis, alias Semple, who is supposed to have been taken from his home at Megargy, in the parish of Magherafelt, barony of Loughinshollin, and county of Londonderry, on the 27th September, 1883. DESCRIPTION of Ellen Maguire and Mary Hayden, natives of Longford, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 10th or morning of the 11th Scptembcl 1883, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, absconded from the Longford Workhouse Fever Hospital ( they boing pauper attendants on the sick therein), taking with them several articles of clothing, the property of the Guardians, viz. IJ- I shifts, 2 woollen handkerchiefs, and 4 petticoats, marked with the brand of the Longford Union. 1. Marks of scrofula under chin, hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 9 inches high, about 80 years of age, brown hair turning gray; wore the union clothing ; is a pauper. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, slight make, 4 feot 6 inches high, about 22 years of ago, brown hair; wore the union clothing ; is a pauper. ; Longford, Sep. 13, 1883.
