Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 100 REWARD. WILFUL MURDER. WHEREAS, at 5 40 A. M. on Thursday, the 4th instant, the dead body of Jonas Bottomley, confectioner, Keighley, was found lying, face downwards, on the canal side, near Monk Bridge Forge, in this borough, and on medical examination, there were found a large wound on the lorehend and another on the back of the head. There was missing from his vest pocket ( supposed stolen) a medium - sized gold Geneva watch, silver gilt dial much worn, and flowered back also much worn. An inquest was held on the 18th instant, and a verdict of wilful murder returned against some person or persons unknown. Notice is hereby given that the above reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police " force in the _ United Kingdom) who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give . such evidence as shall lead to a like result. WANTED for the murder of John Dukes, in Hill- street, Birmingham, on the night of the 5th August, 1883, Martin M'Gann" and William Ryan :— 1. Description of Martin M'Gann— About 21 years of age, o feet 6 or 7 inches high, hair brown, com- plexion fair, slightly freckled, proportionate build; cut scar on left cheek ; walks erect; speaks slowly, with an Irish accent. Dressed in a dark coat, brown trowsers, and silk handkerchief round his neck. Trade, wood button turner. 2. Description of William Ryan— Age 19, height 6 feet 6 or 7 inches, hair dark, complexion sallow, th in build. Dressed, when last seen, in a dark cuta- way coat and black greasy trowsers. Trade, a brass caster. The above- named men absconded from Birming- ham on tho 25th August last, both having lived in Grosvenor- street, Ladywood, Birmingham, and are well known in Essington- street, Birmingham, where they formerly resided. A verdict of wilful murde"'; against M'Gann and Ryan was returned by , the C onor's Jury at the in- quest, held at Birmingham <• the 13th September instant,, and the Coroner ha. issued his Warrants for their apprehension. LICENCE- HOLDER, A 122, Samuel Anderson, alias John Hennessy or Murphy:— A painter, native of Maryboro,' 76 years of age, 5 feet 3 inchcs high, medium build, gray hair, gray eyes, sallow complexion, oval features, lost nearly all his teeth, convicted at Omagh, county Tyrone, 13th October, 1879, of larceny and previous conviction, and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; liberated from H. M. Convict Prison, Mountjoy, 12th ultimo. On the 13th ultimo he reported himself at Liverpool, and stated he was going to Manchester, but has not reported himself thete, and his present whereabouts ig unknown. WANTED, for the murder of Patrick M'Ginty, in Lawson- street, Preston, on the afternoon of Monday, the 3rd September, inst., Anthony Henry:— 22 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, gray eyes, scar right cheek and Shoulder, scars left of back, buttock, and left knee, scar bottom of back, hair cut short and comes down to a point in line with nose, very prominent teeth, a- d it is with great difficulty that he can cover them; has a recent scar on left jaw- bone, speaks with a strong Irish accent, is a native of Innisvagle, Ballycroy, county Mayo, Ireland; is a labourer. Dressed in dark cloth or moleskin coat, moleskin trowsers and vest, dark cloth cap, heavy laced- up boots, clothing dirty and of a clay colour; supposed to be wearing a white muffler and had a red and white pocket handkerchief. Has a blue or old cut- mayk, shape S, on forehead. A verdict of wilful murder against Henry was returned by the Coroner's Jury, at the inquest held, at Preston, on the 5th day of September, instant, and the Coroner has issued his Warrant for his apprehension. ATTEMPTED MURDER. £ 200 REWARD. WHEREAS, at 12.20 A. M., Tuesday, August 28th, 1883, an attempt was made by one of two men ( whose descriptions appear below) to murder a Police Constable by means of a knife and a revolver, in Cottenham Park- road, Copse Hill, Wimbledon. A reward of £ 200 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information as Shall lead to the discovery and conviction Of the assailant or assailants ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious Pardon to'any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the assault who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Description: First man, age 35, height 5 feet 4 inches, complexion fresh, short sandy whiskers and moustache, dress short dark jacket, darkbrown trowsers, appearance of a mechanic, probably has his face disfigured from a blow. Second man: Age 45, height 6 feet, complexion sallow, dark whiskers, dress long black frock coat, dark trowsers and vest, low black felt hat, shabby genteel appearance. Description of Revolver : A small six- chambered, pin cartridge, one of a cheap make, quite new, now in possession of Police. Licence- holder, Philip Doyle, 14,7: t8, has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 7th November, 1882. SCOTTISH POLICE. PERTHSHIRE POLICE. ESCAPED from Dunblane Prison, at 7 P. M. on 28th October current, while undergoing sentence of thirty days' imprisonment, passed on him on 20th instant for reset of theft, William Macdonald: — Pedlar from Dundee, native of St. Ninian's, Stirling- shire, 28 years of age, 6 feet in height, fair hair, whiskers, and moustache, shaved on chin, fresh com- plexion, and smart appearance. Dressed in Prison clothes, consisting of dirty white moleskin jacket and knee breeches, long light gray woollen stockings, with red ring, white moleskin Glengarry bonnet, and white cotton shirt. Police Officers are requested to make diligent search fortius person ; if found apprehend and convey him direct to Dunblane, or wire to Superintendent STEWART, Dunblane, who will send an officer for him. WANTED here on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with the embezzlement of £ 32, theproperty of his employer, Mr. W. A. Kinghorn, Commission Agent, No. 93, Hope- street, Douglas H. Lamb :— A clerk, native of London, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, reddish fair hair, very slight fair moustache, small side whiskers, a little shortsighted and usually wears eyeglasses ; dressed in da, rk gray coat and vest, light tweed trowsers, and round , felt hat, generally wears stand- up collars, and had in his possession when he absconded a dauk overcoat and yellow leather Gladstone bag,; his mother, Mrs. M. A. E. Lamb, resides at No. 29. Dartmouth, Park- road, Highgate- road, London, H. W., and when in Glasgow lie resided at 136 Stirling, road. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned, who stands charged with having stolen sundry sums of , money, the property of the Guardians of the South Dublin Union, by whom he was employed as a Collector of rates:— William Atkinson, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, brown hair, no whiskers, heavy brown moustache, round fresh face covered with blotches; dressed respectably in dark clothcs and tall silk hat. He was at one time Master of the South Dublin Union Workhouse, He was last seen here on Thursday, the 11th instant. Information to the Superintendent, Detective De- partment, 3, Exchange- court, Dublin, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. JOHN MALLON, Superintenden Superintendent's Office, G Division, October 16, 1883. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Frederick Gerraaine, convicted at Dublin, county of the city of Dublin, at Trinity Sessions, on 14th July, 1882, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude;— 25 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a teacher, born in Yorkshire, resided before conviction in Dublin, hi3 friends reside in Leeds; brown hair, brown eyes, dark eyebrows, long and thin nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 4} inches high. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 13th July, 1883, on licence, and went to reside at 24, Charlotte- street, Dublin, which place he has left without notifying change to the Police. He is supposed to have gone to Belfast. In the event of his arrest hd should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 A 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, September 5, 1883. ( 27013 sr.— 49813.) DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned juvenile offender, viho absconded on 20th instant, at about one o'clock, while proceeding to the Reformatory from Naas Prison :— Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pretty gtout make, sallow complexion, fair hair, gray eyes, nose a little turned up, round visage, heavy countenance, small mark of an old cut above right eye on forehead, and small wart on left side of upper lip, formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry; his parents are dead. The dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of cord trowsers, cord sleeved vest, jerry hat, strong nailed hoots fastened by strap and buckle, and blay cotton socks. The absconder is likely to enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of James M'Gregor ( mother's surname Stephenson), native of tavnaghdrissagh, parish of Layd, county Antrim, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd September, 1883, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Tickmacreevan, stolen from the person of John M'Callion a silver lever watch, cream colour dial, No. 20,019, maker James Orr, Ballymena :— Dark eyes, long nose, dark com- plexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair, wore all his beard which is dark, black moustache ; wore a velvet cap, dark frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a miller, sometimes works in iron foundry. DESCRIPTION of William Hanna, native of Bally- wadick, who stands charged with having, on the 31st August, 1883, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Connor, stolen from the dwelling- house of his master, James M'Ilonan, of Carnearney, near Connor, in the county of Antrim, three £ 5 notes and three £ 1 notes:— Gray eyes, flat nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age; wore a low dark hat, brown coat, cord trowsers, and brown tweed vest; is a farm labourer. DESCRIPTION of a watch found on Hugh Williamson, who has been convicted of stealing another watch, at Belfast, on 26th September, 1883, and for which no owner can be found;— Silver Geneva watch, No. 79654, brass dome, cream and white face, has a second hand. DESCRIPTION of Michael Enright, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th of August, 1883, in the barony of Tulla Lower, parish of Kiltenanlea, stolen from the dwelling- house of John Flynn, one pair of laced sho'efe, one pair of tweed trowsers, one pair of socks, two ounces of tobacco, and 7s. 6d. in Silver :— Slovenly gait, leans • forward when walking, thin face, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 4i> years of age, fair hair; wore a black cloth cap with a peak, black coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of George Redmond, native of Ferns, county Wexford, who stands charged with having, on the 24th October, 1883, in the barony of Kilma- crenan, parish of Conwal, escaped from Letterkenny Bridewell when awaiting his trial for larceny of clothing from the dwelling- house of George Brown,, of Drumganty, county Tyrone :— Small tender eyes slightly hooked nose, pale complexion, thin fa. j slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of vi light brown hair, slight hairs growing on his jaJL. wore a tweed cap, old tdrn blue frock coat, iignt tweed trowsers, and old blue vest, had no boots or shirt on when he escaped ; is a tramp ; states he was a sailor. DESCRIPTION of John Ryan, native of Thurle3, county Tipperaryr who is in custody, charged with having, on the 23rd of October, 1883, in the barony of Newry, parish of Newry, stolen a gold watch and chain, and who may have committed offences elsewhere:— Prominent under lip, and narrow chin, very delicate appearance, dark full eyes, long nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; w6re a jerry hat, brown waterproof coat, brown trowsers, and blue vest; is a servant. DESCRIPTION of James Morrissey, native of Smiths- town, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1888, at Mullinavat, in the barony of Knocktopher, parish of Kilbacon, seriously assaulted James Dollard, from the effects of which his life is in, danger:—- May have fresh cut- marks on right hand, gray eyes, straight nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about, 21 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft black hat, black frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. Piltown, October 27, 1883. ( 60805 c.— 8230.) DESCRIPTION of James Morrissey ( mother's name Mary Cashin), native of Smithstown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1883, in a public house, at Mullinavat, in the barony of Knock topher, parish of Kilbeacon, seriously assaulted James Dollard, by striking him on the forehead with a glas tumbler, from the effects of which his life is now in imminent danger, though he did not complain thereof until 16th instant:— Has a cut ( which may be now healed) on the palm of right hand, from the effects of the tumbler breaking therein when striking Dollard, clean face without either beard or whiskey, gray or blue eyes, regalar nose, fair complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 7 J inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farm labourer, and it is believed he left for America on 16th instant. DESCRIPTION of Walter Meally, native of Crutt, Castlecomer, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1883, in the barony of Fassidinnen, parish of Castlecomer, seriously assaulted John Ryan, of Moneenroe :— May have small blue marks on face, result of coal cuts ; hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, rather stout make, 5 feet inches high, about 25 years of age; wore a soft cap, dark coat and trowsers ; is a coal miner. Castlecomer, Sept. 18, 1883. ( 60641 c.— 7957.) Templemichael, absconded from the Longford Workhouse Fever Hospital ( they being pauper attendants on the sick therein), taking with them several articles of clothing, the property of the Guardians, viz.:—! shifts, 2 woollen handkerchiefs, and 4 petticoats, marked with the brand of the Longford Union. 1. Marks of scrofula under chin, hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 9 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair turning gray; wore the union clothing ; is a pauper. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, slight make, 4 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, brown hair; wore the union clothing ; is a pauper. Longford, Sep. 13, 1883. Patrick Keely attempt to set fire to a house, and failing to take his trial when bailed to do so), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry 16th March, 1883. Mayo. DESCRIPTION of Dominick Gara, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 25th June, 1883, at Lung, in the baronv of Costelloe, parish of Kilcolman, assaulted Michael Gara seriously:— Turns- out his toes when walking, very stout make, stooped shoulders, red complexion, long full red face, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 67 years of age, gray hair and whiskers ; is a labourer. Edward Scott ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry 6th April, 1883. DESCRIPTION of two men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 2 6th day of August, 1883, in the barony of Clonlonan, parish of Ballyloughloe, feloniously entered the dwelling- house of Thomas Collins, of Belville, and placed revolvers against the shoulder and breast of Mary Collins, and put a book into her hand to swear by it that she would give up herding; one of the party then fired a shot, and the pellets lodged in a dog that was lying under the table:— 1. Blue eyes, regular nose, red complexion, full red face, stoat make, 5 t'eet H inches high, about 25 years ot age, black hair; wore a soft black hat and old gray tweed coat; had a red handkerchief round his neck. 2.
