Wotiec.— It ii requested that all communication! for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the SSguatore of the parson requiring or lending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that MI information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor H1U86 b « prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and •( Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on whioh it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Whereas1, at 5 40 a. m. on 4th instant, the dead bodv of JONAS BOTTOM LEY, confectioner, Iveighley, was found cn the canal side near Monk Bridge Forge, Leeds, with a large wound on the forehead and another on the back cf the head ; there was missing from his vest pocket ( supposed stolen) a medium sized gold Geneva Watch, silver gilt dial much worn, and flowered back, also much worn. An inquest was hold on 18th instant, aud a verdict of Wilful Murder re- turned against some person or persons unkuown. Notice is hereby given, that Her Majesty's Government offer A REWARD of £ 100 to any person ( other than a ) or son belongicg to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery aud con- viction of the Murderer, or Murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the Gr? nt of Her Majesty's Gracious PARDON to any Accomplice not being the person who actually com- mitted the Murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Stolen from the person at the Railway Station, Newbury, at 8 p. m. on 18th instant : — an open face silver lever Watch, No. 34017, maker's name ' Player, Reading,' on plate, and gold Albert Guard attached. Information to Mr. Supt. Bennett, Berks Constabulary, NEWBURY.— Bow- street, Oct. 24. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary, on 16th instant, at Meldreth :— a' Meat Pic ; a Pocket- knife, single blade ; a Pocket- handkerchief, red border, with red and white spota in the centre; and a light- coloured tweed Coat, with pockets outside; also a riding Co t; from the Crown Inn, Royston ( recovered). By a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, stout build, a slight moustache, the other part of the face clean shaved ; he is of dirty appearance, pitted with smallpox ; dressed in a grey jacket with pockets at the sides, corded trousers ( dirty), and light- coloured soft billycock hat, and stited he is a bricklayer. Information to Mr. Supt;. W. Dade, ARRINGTON, Camba.— Bow- street, October 29. Stolen from a cottage in Bagshot- road, Frimley, between 9 and 10 am. 25th instant:— three gold Risgs, set with stones ; a Wedding Ring ; a small gold Brooch ; a pair of Ear- drops, black, set with gold; a pair of silver D. tto ; a gold Chain ; a plated Locket and Chain ; a plated Chain ; and a metal scent Bottle. Supposed by a man, about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair and moustache; dressed in a black hard felt hat, with broad brim, low crown, dark cutaway coat, blue and black plaid trousers, boots with brown tops, white stand- up collar, with blue neck- tie, carrying a brown overcoat, a riding whip, and two Umbrellas, tied together; left Bagshot Station for Ascot, by the 10 30 a. m. train, and most probably went from there by ( rain to Reading or London. Stolen oi 23id instant, by means of housebreaking:— a Bilver verge Watch, No 252, with silver dial, and a silver curb Albert Chain. Information to the City Police Office, WOR- CESTER— Bow- street, Octobti 26. Stolen by means of burglary, at Eastbourne, Sussex, on 15th instant :— an open- face tilver Geneva Watch, No. 4743, with seconds hand, oval glass, and chased back, the bow is of a brassy colour; and a small bright metal hunting Flask, oval on one side, and concave cn the other, with screw top, bad a small chain attached. Information to Mr. Supt. Newnham, East Sussex Constabulary, EASTBOURNE.— Bow- street, October 24. A portion of the property, stolen by means of burglary at Brentwood, and advertised iu Poli; e Cnz tte of 12th iustaut, has been recovered, and the thitf apprehended— Bow- street, October 24. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Weeping Cross, near Stafford, on the night of 17th instant : — a silver Thimble ( plain) ; a silver Pencil- case ; a Clasp for necktie, with flat lightish coloured stone therein ; £ 2 4s. 6^ d., amongst which was £ 1 in Gold, five Florins, two Half Crowns, Sixpence in Silver, aud an old damaged Halfpenny; also a small Mexican silver Piece of 6 cents, which can be identified. Supposed by a Scotch tramp, 26 or 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, cut short, sandy moustache, no whiskers, medium build; dressed in dark jacket, snuff- coloured trousers aud vest, hard black felt hat, and lace- up boots. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The horse advertised in Police Gazette of 31st ultimo, a<- stolen from a field at Walcot, near Wellington, Salop, has been found straying, and restored to the owner. — Brno- street, November 2. Stolen from a field at Stret'on, near Burton- on- Trent, during the night of 30th ultimo, the property of Mr. W. Cotton :— a ligbt brown half- legged Mare, iu good condition, 5 years old, 15 hands 1 inch higb, with black legs and short tail, has a lump under one jaw ( believed off side), hair ruffled on inside of fetlock joints, very large ears and rather wide apart. Information to Mr. Supt. Gilbride, Police Ofiice, BURTON• ON- TRENT.— Bow- sireet, November 2. Wanted on a charged of Horse Stealing on 14th or morn- ing of 15th ultimo :— a man from 23 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light fresh complexion, small light whiskers and moustache, rather light build, and rather a quick spoken man ; dressed in a light dust overcoat, light tight- tilting trousers, and black round hard felt hat, and had somewhat the appearance of a farmer or butcher. He Bigned his name on thfe deposit note when at Birmingham with the horse, as ' A. W. Johnson.' A reward of £ 5 will be paid by Mr. Richard Roberts, treasurer of the ' Repton Association for the Prosecution of Felons,' and £ 2 by Herbeit Gaakin, the owner of the horse, to any person who may give such information ( private or otherwise), as will lead to his apprehension and conviction. Stolen from Belchamp Walter, during the Dight of 26th instant:— a light bay mare Pony, aged, blind, whie feet, silver mane, white maik down face, and broken- wind, d ; a set of old " brass- mounted Harness ; and a light spring Cart, tquare back, wheels painted red, has been used as a milk cart, and has a sliding piece across the tap- hole in tailboard. Sap- po** d by two men, ail vertised iu Police Gazette of 15th instant, as JAMES & BENJAMIN BEDWELL, and waited for horse stealing in Suffolk ; these men had in their possession ( recovered), a waterproof carriage apron, lined with brown cloth, good quality, and four leather loops at bottom, supposed stolen in Suifolk. Charged with stealing on 10th instant, at Laybam, a red roan carriage Horse ( recovered):— BENJAMIN BEDWELL, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, swarthy complexion, light hair and moustache ; dressed in dark mixed clothes ( very dirty), double peaked cap, sometimes wears a low black hard felt hat; and JAMES BEDWELL, 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in dirty mixed coloured clothes, and. black billy- cock hat, both men occasionally wears a red wrapper round neck. Stolen from High- street, Brentford, ee -- h instanta brown mare Pony, 13 hands Ligb, black legs ( lame in off hind), in 1 > w condition ; a small light Cart, ( to suit poty 11 hand:)), painted chocolate with red lines, frame of bottom painted lead color, and marked ' A.', off shaft repaired at atop with half- round iron, 1 Thomas Whatley, Hampstead ' on off shaft. Supposed by a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, pa'e ; dressed in dark clothes, hard felt hat; accom- panied by a woman, 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, fair ; dressed in dark clothes, carried a baby in long clothe?. Stolen on n; ght of 17th instant, from Tunstall :— a brown Horse, 7 years old, 16 or 17 hands high ; also a dark brown dorse, 7 years old, 15 hands high, and mace cut short, both in a low condition. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT' Deseription of JOHN MARCOX, alias MASON, wanted on a warrant, charged with stealing from a dwelling- house at Great Alne, near Alcester, on 17th ultimo :— a Paise contain- ing 5s., a ladies dress Ring set with six small blue stones and hair let in round the ring, also two plain gold Rings, which have since bsen recovered at Stratford- on- Avon, from which town he was traced to Leamington, where he obtained a pedlar's certificate on the production of his old one, cf whi « L the following is a copy. No. 60, John Marcon, of the Red Lion Inn, Brook Street, In the borough of Leamington, in the county of War . vick, certified 19th Octobcr, 1883, signed by Joseph F. Brabner, C. C. He is described on the certificate as 65 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, hair and bushy whiskers and moustache turning grey ; he is viry talkative and dresssd in a suit of grey clothes, and hard. black felt billy hat with flat top and had with him a pair of black and white plaid trousers. He does not look so old by 10 years as described in his Certi- ficate; etites that he is a stone mason by trade, generally siays at second class public houses, and is well known at Bromsgrove, Tutb- idge Wells, Nantwich, Gloucester, and at Worthing, West Sussex, at which latter place he received a sentence of 2 months imprisonment for larceny, on 8th Nov., 1882. Description of H ARRY YOKE 3, alias JAMES DANKS charged with stealing £ 12 10s. in Gold, at Ibstock, on 27th instant:— 34 years of rge, 5 feet 4 inchts high, fresh com- plexion, sandy whiskers, slight moil tache, stout build, shaves on chin ; dressed in light suit, dark brown overcoat, pockets on hips and one left breast with lid ; this man goes about from place to place, playing a piano, and sirgiog in public- houses, and is well known at the ' Dirty Duck', Be'grave Gate, Lei- cester, the ' Wheat Sheaf Inn', Walker- lane, Derby, and at iSurslem in Staffordshire, where he was convicted in 1881 for larceny. By a man abont 30 years of age, 5 ft. 3 or 4 ias. high, light complexion, ginger moustacho and whiskers, lost nearly all Lis front teeth from upper jaw ; dressed in a blue p'lot jacket, with a brown patch on right shoulder, dark trousers torn icside left knee, grey Bhirt, black tie with white spots, old elastic- side boots, and cap with a peak. By a young man who had the appearance of a groom or jockey, 22 years of age, of short stature, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, small dark whiskers, and small features, has lost four fiugers off left hand ; dressed ia light drab sleeved vest, brown mixture trousers, round hatd hat, with rather large brim, which is broken in front, light lace- up boots, and • wears a horse- shoe pin in neckerchief. Stolen during the night of 22nd instant, at Chalk Hill, Houghton Regis:— a pig- dealer's cart Net, nearly new ( re- covered). By a man, having the appearance of a gipsy horse eoper, about 25 to 30 years ( if age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown face, fall eyes, slight daik whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark or hlick coat, rather long, daik tight- fitiing trousers, black hard felt hat, and red neckerchief, looked rather shabby. Information to Mr. Supt. E. Tydeman, County Police Station, LUTON.— Bow- street, Octobw 29. Description of HARRY DRAKE, wanted on a warrant for embezzling £ 7 6s. 4rl, and other monies in Frim'ey on 28th July last :— he is 20 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, no whiskers or moustache, a butcher. He is known at Staines, Middlesex. Information to Superid tendent F. Pike, FARNIIAM, Surrey.— Bow- street, Oct. 29. Stolen between 7 p. m. and 12 midnight on 27th instant, at the Egerton Arms Hotel, Kuncorn :— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, marked inside of case ' C. cr J. Laviner' in black letters ; a silver lever half hunting Watch ; a set of gold Studs and Sleeve Liulrs to match, flower pattern ; a gold engagement Ring, set with tfcr je green stones; a gold wedding Ring ; a gold keeper Ring; a gold Locket and Chain, the locket plain on one tide, and initials ia form of monogram on the other; a silver Brooch, flowered with gold; a silver chased Bracelet; a cameo Brooch, with red stone ; six silver table Spoons ; a nickel silver fish Cerver, flowered pattern ; a wash leather Bag, containing six Brooches, six breast Pins ; and a silver Necklet and Chain. Suspicion is attached to two men :— one about 66 years of age, rather stout build, fresh complexion, grey whiskers and moustache, 5 feet 6 inches high ; dressed in a drab overcoat, dark trousers, and hard felt hat; the other about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in a light suit, with hard black felt hat; they are both of respectable appearance.
