THE police Gazette, OR HUE- Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under oover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to th « Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give tbe number it bears, as without this information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 100 REWARD. A WARRANT has been granted for the arrest of George Warden, of 52, Moorgate- street, and 8, Kent- terrace, Regent's- park, London, Secretary of the London and River Plate Bank, Limited, on the charge of felony, who absconded on the 1st October. Description— Age 46, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, whiskers and moustache turning gray, shaved on chin, hair thin and gray; dress— black frock coat and waistcoat, light coloured trowsers, high hat; walks with a swaggering gait. _ The above reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the appre- hension of the accused, by Messrs. Michael Abrahams, Son, and Co., Solicitors, 8, Old Jewry, London, E. C„ and 23, Ruo Taitbout, Paris. Information to be given to them, or to the Inspector of the Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. October 3, 1883. " ( 27217 M 50162."* LICENCE- HOLDER, A 122, Samuel Anderson, alias John Hennessy or Murphy:— A painter, native of Maryboro,' 76 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, medium build, gray hair, gray eyefe, salloWci^ npicxl^ n, oval features, lost nearly all his teeth, convicted at Omagh, county Tyrone, 13th October, 1879, of larceny and previous conviction, and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; liberated from H. M. Convict Prison, Mountjoy, 12th ultimo. On the 18th ultimo he reported himself at Liverpool, and stated he was going to Manchester, but has not reported himself there, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ABSCONDED from this city, on the 16th instant, stealing £ 831 Is. 4d., and against whom Warrants have been granted, John Banks, a Catholic priest:— He is 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, round features, fair hair and complexion, slightly sallow under the eyes, clean shaved, may discard his clerical attire; he was accompanied by a female named Catherine Hammill, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair, fringe on forehead, dark complexion, round features, rather good looking; dressed at the time of their departure in a black velveteen dress, jacket same material, a black chip hat, boat shape, with black feather, and trimmed with black satin; carried a fur cape and a brown silk umbrella. Their luggage consisted of two portmanteaus, one paper- covered trunk, two leather bags, and a man's hat box. They sailed from Folkestone at 11.30 A. M., 18th instant, for Boulogne ; may endeavour to return and leave the country, probably for America. Kindly cause every possible inquiry to be made at railway termini, hotels, from carmen, at shipping offices, & c., & c., also watch inward and outward bound vessels; and, if found, arrest and telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief . WANTED for the murder of John Dukes, in Hill- - street, Birmingham, on the night of the 5th August, 1883, Martin M'Gann and William Ryan :— 1. Description of Martin M'Gann— About 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, hair brown, com- plexion fair, slightly freckled, proportionate build; cut scar on left cheek ; walks erect; speaks slowly, with an Irish accent. Dressed in a dark coat, brown trowsers, and silk handkerchief round his neck. Trade, wood button turner. 2. Description of William Ryan— Age 19, height 5 feet 6 or 7 inches, hair dark, complexion sallow, thin build. Dressed, when last seen, in a dark cuta- way coat and black greasy trowsers. Trade, a brass caster. The above- named men absconded from Birming- ham on the 25th August last, both having lived in Grosvenor- street, Ladywood, Birmingham, and are well known in Essington- street, Birmingham, where they formerly resided, and are said to be in Ireland, where M'Gann's parents reside. See previosu infor- mations. A verdict of wilful murder against M'Gann and Ryan was returned by the Coroner's Jury at the in- quest, held at Birmingham on the 13th September instant, and the Coroner has issued his Warrants for their apprehension. Notice is hereby given, that Her Majesty's Government offer a reward of £ 100 to any person other than a pers > n belonging to a Police Force in the United Ki; gdom who shall give such information and evidence t^ shall lead to the discovery and con- viction of th murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of^ L^. te will advise the grant of Her Majesty's CL-^^ fciPardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. MURDER. £ 100 REWARD. WANTED, for the murder of Patrick M'Ginty, in Lawson- street, Preston, on the afternoon of Monday, the 3rd September, inst, Anthony Henry:— 22 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, gray eyes, scar right cheek and shoulder, scars left of back, buttock, and left knee, scar bottom of back, hair cut short and comes down to a point in line with nose, very prominent teeth, and it is with great difficulty that he can cover them; has a recent scar on left jaw- bone, speaks with a strong Irish accent, is a native of Innisvagle, Ballycroy, county Mayo, Ireland; is a labourer. Dressed in dark cloth or moleskin coat, moleskin trowsers and vest, dark cloth cap, heavy laced- up boots, clothing dirty and of a clay colour; supposed to be wearing a white muffler and had a red and white pocket handkerchief. Has a blue or old cut- mark, shape S, on forehead. A verdict of wilful murder against Henry was returned by the Coroner's Jury, at the inquest held, at Preston, on the 5th day of September, instant, and the Coroner has issued his Warrant for his apprehension. ATTEMPTED MURDER. £ 200 REWARD. WHEREAS, at 12.20 A. M., Tuesday, August 28th, 1883, an attempt was made by one of two men ( whoso descriptions appear below) to murder a Police Constable by means of a knife and a revolver, in Cottenham Park- road, Copse Hill, Wimbledon, A reward of £ 200 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the assailant or assailants ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious Pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the assault who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Description: First man, age 35, height 5 feet 4 inches, complexion fresh, short sandy whiskers and moustache, dress short dark jacket, dark brown trowsers, appearance of a mechanic, probably has his face disfigured from a blow. Second man: Age 45, height 6 feet, complexion sallow, dark whiskers, dress long black frock coat, dark trowsers and vest, low black felt hat, shabby genteel appearance. Description of Revolver: A small six- chambered, pin cartridge, one of a^ heap make, quite new, now in possession of Police. Licence- holder, Philip Doyle, 14,738, has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 7th November, 1882. WELSH POLICE. WANTED on a Warrant at Holyhead, one Thomas Brady, a mock Catholic Priest, charged with obtaining money at Holyhead by means of false pretences, purporting the same to be in aid of the Cabra Deaf and Dumb Institution, Dublin. He is of the following description:— Age about 34 or 35 years, height about 5 feet 7 inches, pale complexion, long features, dark hair, dressed in the garb of a Catholic Priest, and wore a tall silk hat, and speaks with a rough Irish accent. Adam Archibald, Hugh White, and Edward Slaven, described in the Hue- and- Cry of 25th August, 1883, are still at large, and the Constabulary are requested to make every possible effort to arrest them. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Frederick Germaine, convicted at Dublin, county of the city of Dublin, at Trinity Sessions, on 14th July, 1882, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ;— 25 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman - THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, OCTOBER 12, 1883. Catholic, single, is a teacher, horn in Yorkshire, resided before conviction in Dublin, his friends reside in Leeds; brown hair, brown eyes, dark eyebrows, long and thin nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 4J inches high. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 13th July, 1883, on licence, and went to reside at 24, Charlotte- street, Dublin, which place he has left without notifying change to the Police. He is supposed to have gone to Belfast. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, September 5, 1883. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned • juvenile offender, who absconded on 20th instant, at about one o'clock, while proceeding to the Reformatory from Naas Prison :— Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pretty stout make, sallow complexion, fair hair, gray eyes, nose a little turned up, round visage, heavy countenance, small mark of an old cut above right eye on forehead, and small wart on left side of upper lip, formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry; his parents are dead. The dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of cord trowsers, cord sleeved vest, jerry hat, strong nailed boots fastened by strap and buckle, and blay cotton socks. The absconder is likely to enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of James M'Gregor ( mother's surname ^ Stephenson), native of Tavnaghdrissagh, parish of Layd, county Antrim, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd September, 1883, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Tickmacreevan, stolen from the person of John MCallion a silver lever watch, cream colour dial, No. 20,019, maker James Orr, Ballymena;— Dark eyes, long nose, dark com- plexion, long face, stout make, 5 feat 11 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair, wore all hi3 beard which is dark, black moustache; wore a velvet cap, dark frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a miller, sometimes works in iron foundry. DESCRIPTION of William Hanna, native of Bally- wadick, who stands charged with having, on the 31st August, 1883, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Connor, stolen from the dwelling- house of his master, James M'Ilonan of Carnearney, near Connor, in the county of Antrim, three £ 5 notes and threo £ l notes:— Gray eyes, flat nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age ; wore a low dark hat, brown coat, cord trowsers, and brown tweed vest; is a farm labourer. DESCRIPTION of Michael Enright, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th of August, 1883, in the barony of Tulla Lower, parish of Kiltenanlea, stolen from the dwelling- house of John Flynn, one pair of laced shoes, one pair of tweed trowsers, one pair of socks, two ounces of tobacco, and 7s. 6c?. in silver :— Slovenly gait, leans forward when walking, thin face, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cloth cap with a peak, black coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of Walter Meally, native of Crutt, Castlecomer, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1883, in the barony of Fassidinnen, parish of Castlecomer, seriously assaulted John Ryan, of Moneenroe :— May have small blue marks on face, result of coal cuts; hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, rather stout make, 5 feet 9£ inches high, about 25 years of age; wore a soft cap, dark coat and trowsers; is a coal miner. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th day of September, 1883, in the barony of Coolestown, parish of Monasteroris, townland of Edenderry, refused to give any account of himself :— Dressed as a monk, clean shaved face, heavy under jaws, frong teeth rather large and irregular, blue- eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft hat, blue dress coat, black cloth trowsers, and black vest is remanded till 22nd instant. DESCRIPTION of a setter bitch, the property of James Crehan, which was stolen from his residence at Ballysallagh; parish of Caherelly, barony of Clanwilliam, on the 28th September, 1883 ;— Red colour, white face and breast, also tip of tail white, she is about 4 years old; value for £ 5. DESCRIPTION of Ellen Maguire and Mary Hayden,. natives of Longford, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 10th or morning of the 11th September, 1883, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, absconded from the Longford' Workhouse Fever Hospital ( they being pauper attendants on the sick therein"), taking with them several articles of clothing, tho property of the Guardians, viz.:— 2 shifts, 2 woollen handkerchiefs, and 4 petticoats, marked with the brand of the- Longford Union. 1. Marks of scrofula under chin, hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 9 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair turning gray; wore the union clothing; is a pauper. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion,, regular face, slight make, 4 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, brown hair; wore the union- clothing ; is a pauper. Longford, Sep. 13, 1883. DESCRIPTION of Dominick Gara, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on tin; 25th June, 1883, at Lung, in the barony of Costelloe,. parish of Kilcolman, assaulted Michael Gara seriously:— Turns out his toes when walking, very stout make, stooped shoulders, red complexion, long, full red face, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 67 years of age, gray hair and whiskers ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Daniel Delaney, of Derryroe, who stands charged with having, on the 26th August, 1883, at 8 o'clock P. M., in the barony of Maryborough West, parish of Clonmagh, feloniously stabbed Timothy Sinnott, of Parkavilla, on the public road at Clonbane, thereby endangering his life :— Sallow complexion, thin face, sharp thin nose, wijp^ nake, no beard or whiskers, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high/ and 23 years of age, dark hair; is a returned American. DESCRIPTION of two men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 26th day of August, 1883, in the barony of Clonlonan, parish of Ballyloughloe, feloniously entered the dwelling- house of Thomas Collins, of Belville, and placed revolvers against the shoulder and breast ol Mary Collins, and put a book into her hand to swear by it that she would give up herding; one of the party then fired a shot, and the pellets lodged in a dog that was lying under the table:— 1. Blue eyes, regular nose, red complexion, full red face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, black hair; wore a soft black hat and old gray tweed coat; had a red handkerchief round his neck. 2. Small dark eyes, thin nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 25 years of age, black hair,; wore a soft black hat, gray Whitney coat and new dark trowsers; lower part of face covered with an old check silk handkerchief. Wicklow, DESCRIPTION of John Kennedy, native of Carrig, who stands charged with having, on the 11th instant, in the barony of Eathdown, parish of Kilmacanogue, stolen one bullock and one heifer, the property of Harriett Lindsay :— Cast in right eye and walks with a halt, dark complexion, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of age; wore a round felt hat, gray tweed coat and trowsers; is a steward or herd.
