DUBLIN, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. M ORDER. XI00 REWARD. WANTED for the murder of John Dukes, in Hill- street, Birmingham, on the night of the otli August, 1883, Martin M'Gann and William Ryan :— 1. Description of Martin M'Gann— About 21 years of age, 5 feet ( i or 7 inches high, hair brown, com- plexion fair, slightly freckled, proportionate build; • cut scar on left cheek ; walks erect; speaks slowly, with an Irish accent. Dressed in a dark coat, brown trowsers, and silk handkerchief round his neck. Trade, wood button turner. 2. Description of William Ryan— Age 19, height 5 feet 6 or 7 inches, hair dark, complexion sallow, thin build. Dressed, when last seen, in a dark cuta- way coat and black greasy trowsers. Trade, a brass caster. The above- named men absconded from Birming- ham on the 25th August last, both having lived in - Prosvenor- street, Ladywood, Birmingham, and are well known in Essington- street, Birmingham, where they formerly resided, and are said to be in Ireland, whero M'Gann's parents reside. See previosu infor- mations. A verdict of wilful murder against M'Gann and Ryan was returned by the Coroner's Jury at the in- quest, held at Birmingham on the 13th September instant, and the Coroner has issued his Warrants for their apprehension. Notice is hereby given, that Her Majesty's Government offer a reward of £ 100 to any person other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and con- viction of the murdqrer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead • to I Hk^ rgiult. — i—- i- ivi" Information to be given to J. STOLEN from a field in High Legh, on the night of the 13th instant, a brown horse:— 11 years old, 15-^ 9 or 15- 3 in height, in very good condition, white spot • on top of back where saddle fits, also on one of the hind legs, mane and tail very rough through rubbing against stumps, & c„ mouth partly open when travelling; if without bearing reins, carries his head very low; large scar inside thigh right hind leg. WANIKD, for the murder of Patrick M'Ginty, in Lawson- street, Preston, on the afternoon of Monday, the 3rd September, inst., Anthony Henry:— 22 years of age, looks older, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, gray eyes, scar right cheek and shoulder, scars left of back, buttock, and left knee, scar bottom of back, hair cut short and comes down to a point in line with nose, very prominent teeth, ar d it is with gspat difficulty that he can cover them; has a recent scar on left jaw- bone, speaks with a strong Irish accent, is a native of Innisvagle, Ballycroy, county Mayo, Ireland; is a labourer. Dressed in dark cloth or moleskin coat, moleskin trowsers and vest, dark cloth cap, heavy laced- up boots, clothing dirty and of a clay colour; supposed to be wearing a white muffler and had a red and white pocket handkerchief. Has a blue or old cut- mark, shape S, on forehead. A verdict of wilful murder against Henry was returned by the Coroner's Jury, at the inquest held, at Preston, on the 5 th day of September, instant, and the Coroner has issued his Warrant for his apprehension. ATTEMPTED MURDER. £ 200 REWARD. WHEREAS, at 12.20 A. M., Tuesday, August 28th, 1883, an attempt was made by one of two men ( whose descriptions appear below) to murder a Police Constable by means of a knife and a revolver, m Cottenham Park- roaii, Copse Hill, Wimbledon. A reward of £ 200 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give siteh information as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the assailant or assailants ; and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious Pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the assault who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Description: First man, age 35, height 5 feet 4 inches, complexion fresh, short sandy ' whiskers and moustache, dress short dark jacket, dark brown trowsers, appearance of a mechanic, probably has his face disfigured from a blow. Second man: Age 45, height 6 feet, complexion sallow, dark whiskers, dress long black frock coat, dark trowsers and vest, low black felt hat, shabby genteel appearance. Description of Revolver: A small six- chambered, pin cartridge, one of a cheap make, quite new, now in possession of Police. Licence- holder, Philip Doyle, 14,738, has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 7th November, 1882. SCOTTISH POLICE. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. FORGERY AND EMBEZZLEMENT OF £ 209 17s. Ad. WANTED here on a Sheriff's Warrant, charged with forgery and embezzlement of £ 209 17s. 4d,, the property of his employers, Messrs. Ross and Marshall, Lighter Owners, 18, Cathcart- street, Greenock, Thomas Reid Dunlop :— A clerk, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout made, brown hair, fairish brown whiskers, beard, and moustache all cut short, florid complexion, small nose, husky voice; dressed in a blue cloth jacket, vest, and trowsers, and black hard felt liat; weighs about 13 stones, and has a swaggering gait; is well up in shipping business; also married, and resided in Greenock. Police Officers are requested to have search and inquiry made for accused at hotels, shipping, and other likely places, and should he be arrested or traced, communicate with A. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Frederick Germaine, convicted at Dublin, county of the city of Dublin, at Trinity Sessions, on 14th July, 1882, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude;— 25 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a teacher, born in Yorkshire, resided before conviction in Dublin, his friends reside in Leeds; brown hair, brown eyes, dark eyebrows, long and thin nose, small mouth, fair complexion, oval visage, medium make, 6 feet 4'- inches high. _ — This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 13th July, 1883, on licence, and went to reside at 24, Charlotte- street, Dublin, which place he has left without notifying change to the Police. He is supposed to have gone to Belfast. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, September 5, 1883. PARTICULARS relative to English convict Patrick Lynch, C 1623, convicted in Omagh, county Tyrone, on 11th October, 1876, for subsequent felony, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 23 years of age on conviction, single, is a tailor, born in Boyle, resided before conviction in Tunstall, Staffordshire, his friends reside in Boyle, county Roscommon; dark brown hair, blue eyes, dark complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, two cuts on crown, one on back of head, small scar above right eyebrow, two blue marks below left elbow, burn scar top of shoulder, blue tattoo marks above wrist, scar on small of back outside buttock, scar on back of right shoulder, four vaccination marks on left arm, scars on right hip, on right thigh and on right shin, 5 feet 1. J inches high. This man was released from Dartmoor Prison on 10th April, 1883, and reported himself on the 12th of same month to the Police at Dublin, on the 13th April he reported himself at Naas, on the 16tli April at Athlone, on the 22nd April at Boyle, from whence he went on the same date to Mohill, cOunty Leitrim, but he has no reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 85 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, Dublin Castle, August 15,1883. ( 26879 m.— 40582.^ THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1883. DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned juvenile offender, who absconded on 20th instant, at about one o'clock, while proceeding to the Reformatory from Naas Prison :— Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pretty stout make, sallow complexion, fair hair, gray eyes, nose a little turned up, round visage, heavy countenance, small mark of an old cut above right eye on forehead, and small wart on left side of upper lip, formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry ; his parents are dead. The dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of cord trowsers, cord sleeved vest, jerry hat, strong nailed boots fastened by strap and buckle, and blay cotton socks. The absconder is likely to enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of James M'Gregor ( mother's surname Stephenson), native of Tavnaghdrissagh, parish of Layd, county Antrim, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd September, 1883, in the barony of Lower Glenarm, parish of Tickmacreevan, stolen from the person of John M'Callion a silver lever watch, cream colour dial, No. 20,019, maker James Orr, Ballymena :— Dark eyes, long nose, dark com- plexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair, wore all his beard which is dark, black moustache ; wore a velvet cap, dark frock coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a miller, sometimes works in iron foundry. DESCRIPTION of William Hanna, native of Bally- wadick, who stands charged with having, on the 31st August, 1883, in the barony of Lower Antrim, parish of Connor, stolen from the dwelling- house of his master, James M'Ilonan, of Carnearney, near Connor, in the county of Antrim, three £ 5 notes and three j£ l notes:— Gray eyes, flat nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age ; wore a low dark hat, brown coat, cord trousers, and brown tweed vest; is a farm labourer. I DESOBIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 8th August, 1883, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— William John Orr, 348, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, brown hair, smaU - gray eyes, ordinary mouth, oval visage, burn mark on nose, J. tattoed on right forearm, blue mark between thumb and forefinger of left hand, and scar on forefinger of same hand ; formerly belonged to Belfast, where his parents reside. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of dark tweed trowsers, gray tweed vest and overcoat, felt hat, nailod blucher boots, house No. 13. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. B., sailor's hoad, Ac., tattood on right arm, and various other blue marks ; formerly belonged to Dubliri, his parents reside at William- place, Lower Sherrard- street, Dublin. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp consists of dark tweed trowsers, gray tweed vest and overcoat, felt hat, nailed blucher boots, house No. 87. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of Michael Enright, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th of August, 1883, in the barony of Tulla Lower, parish of Kiltenanlea, stolen from the dwelling- house of John Flynn, one pair of laced shoes, one pair of tweed trowsers, onej> air of socks, two ounces of tobacco, and 7s. 6d. lB silver :— Slovenly gait, leans forward when walkin" thin face, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cloth cap with a peak, black coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. STOLEN from the lands of Lissanisky, parish of Knockavilly, county of Cork, on 5th August, 1883, a beagle hound, the property of J. H. Payne, Esq. ;— Three months old, red and white spotted, brown ears, brown spot between ears, cut on hind leg low down, name " Jostler"; worth £ 3; supposed to be stolen by a man from Cork. ( 59696.) DESCRIPTION of Michael Sullivan, native of Barra- hauring, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd May, 1883, in the barony of East Muskery, parish of Donoughmore, stolen three sheep, the property of Richard Golden :- y- Gray eyes, straight nose, fail- complexion, roundeface, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 18 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a tweed coat, cord trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a watch and chain, the property of Lieutenant H. L. Lamings, 18th Hussars, which were stolen from his tent in the Curragh Camp, parish of Ballysax, barony » f East Offaly, on the evening of 1st September, 1883:— A gold keyless watch with open face, white dial, gold hands and second hand; crest, a pelican feeding young in a nest, and motto " Fortuna Sequitur " were engraved on back, number unknown; maker James M'Cabe, Corn- hill, London; value for £ 35. A gold Albert chain, a half- sovereign of 1820 attached, at one end a hook and at the other a swivel; the chimin was made with joints, not links; value" for £ 3. Kildare, September 8, 1883. DESCRIPTION of William Oates, native of Curragh Camp, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd August, 1883, in the barony of East Offally, parish/ of Ballysax, fradulently embezzled money to the amount of £ 22 5s. 2hd, delivered to and received by him for and on account of his master, Bartholomew Murphy, Postmaster, Curragh damp:— Delicate looking, dark eyes, thin nose, pale complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 16- years of age, dark hair cut short; wore a felt hat,, and navy blue suit; is a clerk in post offices. DESCRIPTION of Walter Meally,' native of Crutt, Castlecomer, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1883, in the barony of Fassidinnenr parish of Castlecomer, seriously assaulted John Ryan, of Moneenroe :— May have small blue marks on face, result of coal cuts ; hazel eyes, regular noser fresh complexioDj round face, rather stout make, 5 feet 9^ inches high, about 25 years of age; wore a soft cap, dark coat and trowsers ; is a coal miner. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th day of September, 1883, in the barony of Coolestown, parish of Monasteroris, townland of Edenderry, refused to give any account of himself :— Dressed as a monk, clean shaved face, heavy under jaws, frong teeth rather large and irregular, blue- eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft hat, blue dress coat, black cloth trowsers, and black vest. He is demanded till 22nd instant. Edenderry, Sept. 17, 1883. ( 60627 c— 7938 ) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 30th September, 1882, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County:— Peter Clarke, 712, 18 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, short nose, regular mouth, oval visage, scar on each cheek, formerly belonged to Belfast, his parents reside at 25, Millfield- lane, Belfast. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who. may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of Ellen Maguire and Mary Hayden,. natives of Longford, who stands charged with having,, on the night of the 10th or morning of the 11th September, 1883, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, absconded from the Longford Workhouse Fever Hospital ( they being pauper attendants on the sick therein), taking with them, several articles of clothing, the property of the Guardians, viz.:— 3 shifts, 2 woollen handkerchiefs, and 4 petticoats, marked with the brand of the Longford Union. 1. Marks of scrofula under chin, hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 9 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair turning gray; wore the union, clothing; is a pauper. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexioi regular face, slight make, 4 feet 6 inches high, abo 22 years of age, brown hair; wore the unii clothing; is a pauper. i Longford, Sep. 13, 1883. DESCRIPTION of a mare, the property of Patrick Osborne, which is supposed to have been Stolen from the lands of Cromartin, parish of Clonkeen, barony of Ardee, on the night of the 15th or morning of the 16th instant:— Black colour, two hind legs white above fetlock, mark on the inside of leu- shoulder from the collar, lame in left foreleg, crack in [ right forehoof, white star on forehead, about 7 years old; value for £ 30. Patrick Keely ( attempt to set fire to a house, and failing to take his trial when bailed to do so), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry 16th March, 1883. Mayo. DESCRIPTION of Dominick Gara, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 25th June, 1883, at Lung, in the barony of Costelloe, parish of Kilcolman, assaulted Michael Gara seriously:— Turns out his toes when walking, very stout make, stooped shoulders, red complexion, long full red face, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 67 years of age, gray hair and whiskers ; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Hosey, native of Edenderry, who stands charged with having, on the 29th July, 1883, in the barony of Lune, parish of Killaconnigan, broken into the dwelling- house of Michael Browne, of Donore, with intent to commit a felony therein :— Old cut on upper lip and bridge of nose, gray eyes, flat nose, fair complexion, small face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a hard black hat, tweed coat, light tweed trowsers and vest; all the clothing much worn ; is a tramping tailor. DESCRIPTION of two men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 26th day of August, 1883, in the barony of Clonlonan, parish of Ballyloughloe, feloniously entered the dwelling- house of Thomas Collins, of Belville, and placed revolvers against the shoulder and breast of Mary Collins, and put a book into her hand to swear by it that she would give up herding; one of the party then fired a shot, and the pellets lodged in a dog that was lying under the table:— 1.
