CONTAINING Tin substance of all Information* received in ease* of Felony and of Misdemeanort of an aggravated nature, and against Receiver* of Stolen Goods, reputeH Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Nanus of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Tht Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate a* possible, jrroperty that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. fig flutfcorftg. HI Otic ® .— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respectmg supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of th* person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Polico Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and it Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Wanted for the Murder of Patrick HcGiuty, in Lawson Street, Preston, on the afternoon of 3rd instant:— ANTHONY HENRY, 22 yrs. of age, looks older, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, freah complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes, marked Bear right cheek and shoulder, scars leftof back, buttock and left knee, scar bottom of back, hair cut short, autl comes dosvn to a point in line with nose, has very prominent teeth, and it is with great difficulty that he can cover them ; baa a recent scar on left jaw- bone, speaks with a strong Iiish accent, is a native of Iunisvagle, Ballycroy, Mayo, Ireland, and is a labourer; dressed iu dark cloth or moleskin coat, moleskin trousers and vest, dark cloth cap, heavy lace- up boots, clothing dirty and of a clay colour supposed to be wearing a white muffler and had a red and white pocket handkerchief. A Verdict of ' Wilful Murder against Ilenrj ' w, cs returned by the Coroner's Jury, at the Inquest held at [ Preston, on 5th instant. Notice is hereby given, that Her Majesty's Govern- ment offer A REWARD of £ 100 to any person ( other than a person belonging io a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as Bhall lead to the discovery and con- viction of the murderer, and the Secretary of State will advise the Grant of Her Majesty's Gracious PARDON to any Accomplice not being the person who actually com- mitted the Murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to Captain Little, Chief Constable, Borough Police StatioD, PRESTON, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Sept. 12. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 2 a. m. on 5th instant, two small ricks, one barley and one wheat; also the body part of a portable steam thrashing machine, were discovered on tire, on the premises of Mr. John Vivian, of Tyre Hill InD, Welland, Worcester ; the whole of the two ricks and the woodwork of the machine was destroyed ; supposed to be the act of incendiary. Wanted at Glasgow on a Sheriff's warrant, charged with forgery and embezzlement of £- 209 17s. 4d. : — THOMAS REID DUN LOP, a clerk, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout made, brown hair, fairish brown whis- kers, beard and moustache, all cut short, florid complexion, small nose, husky voice ; dressed in a blue cloth jacket, vest and trousers, and black hard felt hat; weighs about 13 stones, and has a swaggering gait; is well up in shipping business, also married, and resided in GreeDock. Information to A. McCall, Chief Constable, GLASGOW.— Bow- street, Sept. 7. Wanted on a warrant for forgery :— WILLE JANAU8- CHECK, alias JOHN WILLIAMS, a Pole, 43 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and mou- stache ; dressed iu thin dark overcoat, black velvet under- coat, dark vest and light trousers. A protessor of music. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Polwe, 26, OLD JEWRY, London, E. C.— Bow- street, September 7. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Supposed stolen from the person at Derby, on 6th inst. : — a gent's gold lever Watch, No. 3674, makers, ' Shepperley and Pearce, Nottingham, white dial, bold figures, cost £ 20 30 years ago. Information to W. A. Delacotnbe, Lt.- Col,. Chief Constable, Town Hall, DERBY.— Bow- streef, S'pt. 10. Stolen from the person at Skegness Races, on 3rd inst.: — a gentleman's silver Geneva Lever Watch, on outer case were ' 2685' at top,' 115' at side, ' 6429' at botton, on inner case ' 115' at side, and ' 6429' at bottom, fancy silver dial, on which are the words ' E. Baffin, a Geneve,' gold bands, and steel seconds hand. Also a silver English Lever, No. 374, a small crack in dial at figure 3, case fits badly at b ick, and a common yellow metal Chain with 2 Seals attached ( one had a stone out). Several persons from Lambeth- walk aud neigh bourhood were present at the races. Information to Mr. Supt. R. Sowden, SPILSBY, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, S pt. 10. Stolen from the person at Sandy Flower Show, on 31st ultimo :— a gentleman's large gold Watch, white dial, gold hands, maker's name and number unknown ; also a silver open faced lever Watch, enamelled dial f- plate, no name, No. 12993, Geneva, crystal glass face. Also a silver double- case lever Watch, end broken off the minute hand ; likewise a gold open face English lever Watch, No. 21754, enamelled dial, and a medium sized gold lever Watch, with white face, engine turned, name and number unknown A man who gave the name of GEORGE UNDERWOOD, 52, Allington Street, N ile Street, Hoxton, stands committed for trial at the next Bedford Quarter Sessions, with stealing a gold Watch from the person of a gentleman at Bandy Flower Show on 3lBt ultimo, 24 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair com- plexion, light hair and grey eyes ; dressed in dark clothes, on his person was found a silver Geneva consular Watch, maker's name ' Motta, Geneva,' No. 2946— 661, nickel steel Chain with aluminum Pencil; a Geneva watch Movement, no name or number, dial smashed and otherwi. e injured, evidently been wrenched out of cases; a 9- carat gold scarf Pin ; Ring No. 1, 18- carat gold London hall marked, solid buckle with beaded edge, has not been worn long ; King No. 2, sham dia- mond, 3 stone Ring, hollow 9- carat., gold. Stolen from the person at Eastbourne, on 3rd instant:— a lady's small gold keyless French Watch, white dial with blue figures, small piece broken out of dial. Information to Mr. Supt. Newnham, East Sussex Constabulary, EASTBOURNE. — Bow- areet, September 7. rather far worn, fleur- de- lis hands, which are new, and steel balance ; a pair of tadies' Fiench kid lace- up Boots, No. 4 size, quite new, not having been worn at all ; a xpint Flask, ( gill) pewter metal, top half covered with dark leather, and screw top ; and a cottage door Key. Entrance effected by breakiug a pane of glass in the scullery window, and uuhasp- ing the catch. Information to Mr. Supt. Holland, County Police Office, BOLTON, Lancashire.— Bovfrttreet, Sept 10. Between 3 and 5 30 p. m., on 6th instant, the dwelling- house of Thomas Cooper, at Aylestone Park, was broken and entered during the absence of the family, and stolen there- from :— a lady's gold dress Ring set with diamond iu centre, 5 small blue stones round it, and 3 each side of ceutre, shape of half moon ; a gold dress Ring, set with 3 green stones and 3 diamonds in a row, the centre one missing ; a pair of gold Earrings, twisted cord pattern, about au inch long ; a pair of gold Earrings, red stone in ceutre of each ; a round silver Brooch, engraved round edge, aud small ball in centre ; and a gold brtiocb, consisting of 4 plain rings, set with a grey stone in each Fring. Eutrauee was effected by means of skeleton keys, and two men of the following description were seen to leave the house— one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light biown hair, whiskers and moustache, fair com- plexion, and proportionately made; drewsed iu daik brown tweed suit and, and black hard billy hat; the other about 40 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins. high, dark brown hair, whiskers aud moustache, dark complexion and stout made ; dressed in dark tweed trousers and vest, black cloth dress coat, and black hard felt hat. Between 1 and 7 p. m. on 7th instant, the dwelling- house of Benjamin Rhodes, at Leicester Forest, E* st, was broken and entered duriDg the absence of the inmates :— aud £ Z in gold aud about 3 shillings in silver and copper money, aud a pair of lady's gold Eye- glasses stolen therefrom. Entrance was effected by breaking a pane of glass near the fastening and opening the window. Supposed by two men, one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, sandy whiskers and mous- tache, fair complexion and well made ; dressed in I lack cloth coat, brown coloured trousers and vejft, and black haid billy hat; the other about 30 or 35 years of age, 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers and moustache; dressed in grey coloured suit, and black hard billy hat. Information to Capt. Grimston, Chief Constable, or Mr. Supt, Holmes. County Police Station, LEICESTER — Bow- st, Sept. 10. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary from the dwelling- house of W. F. Hallett, Esq., Parkhouse, Hurstbourne Park, Whit- church, | between 9 p. m. 10th and 6 a. m. 11th instant:— two Table Knives and two Forks, white handles, knives marked on blade— a crown, ' V. R.,' and ' Francis Townsend, cutler to Her Majesty,' forks marked ' Steel' on shanks ; two pint earthenware Mugs, imitation bollyleaf and berry iu blue out- side ; an ordinary stable Shovel; a garden Spade, marked in | pencil on eye ' Loyton'; and a square Bass Broom, long handle. Entrance was made by breaking a pane of glass in the scullery window and unhasping the catch. Information to Mr. Inspector Duke, Hants Constabulary, ANDOVER.— — Bow- street, September 14. Stolen from a draper's shop window, at Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead, during the night of 5th, or morning of 6th inst., by means of breaking the window, the following articles of drapery, & c. :— an infant's black velvet Hood, trimmed with swan's- down; a marone ditto; a black straw Gainsborough Hat, trimmed with black lace and roses ; a dozen white aud gold silk Handkerchiefs; a dozen infant's scarlet and white Staybaids ; two lengths of Cretone, light and dark pattern, 81 yards; a calico Wrapper ; half- a- dozen ladies Collars ; a black Bonnet; a dozen pairs of cuff Studs; some bundles of Wool; 4 hair Brushes ; 8 pairs of black Bracelets ; 6 Brooches ; 6 pairs of Earrings ; a fancy Apron ; 2i yards of streamer Lace; several lengths of narrow cream and drab Lace ; 4 mob Caps ; a ladies' Collar with Embroidery ; a ditto with plain front. Stolen, by means of burglary, from a dwelling- house at Great Lever, Bolton, between 11.30 p. m. 6th, and 2.30 a. m. 7th instant:— a silver lever Watch, No. 341, maker's name unknown, cream- coloured dial, which is cracked, plain cases, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALINGS Found near Luton, on 28th ultimo, and supposed stolen :— a black Horse, aged, one white off fore foot aud one white near hind foot. Stolen from a field at Emstrey, near Shrewsbury, during the night of 7th instant:— a red roan wagon Hor> e, 5 years old, about 16 hands high, rather light legged, and in good condition. Stolen during the night of 31st ultimo, from a field at Moulescombe Farm, Patcham :— a dun- coloured geldiog Cob, aged, about 15 hand* 2 inches high, Information to Mr. Supt. Dennis. PATCHAM, East Sussex.— Bov>- tt~ m, Sept. 10. Stolen from a paddock on the Warwick Road, Southam, on the night of 4th inst. :— a stout bay horse Cob, with black bgs, about 14 bands high, with long tail, very fat, his had bis tongue nearly cut through by halter, and has a large plain htad. Information to Acting Supt. Welch, Police Office, RUGBY.— Bow- street, September 10. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT! Absconded on 24th ultimo, charged by warrant with embeazlement : — ARTHUR HONBURY GODFREY, a clerk in parcel office, 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, inclined to curl, and b uihed back to meetbehind, had little side whinkera, no mou tictie, hangs his head a little on one aide when walking ; generally dressed in dark dothes, with a hard felt hat which he wears at the back of lis head He has been at sea as a steward has had a superiw education. £ 20 reward will be paid by the Cheshire lines Committee to any person that will give such information as will lead to his apprehension. Stolen between 1 p. m. on 8tb, aud 9 a m. on 10th irst from a draper'thjhop at Bala :- a lady's brown fu<- Oape, Urns' long, lined thr^ gh with brown quilted sati,, fastened at front with hooks and eyes, underneath and above, with silk cord loops, and wrrel- shaped buttons, the property of Mr William Davies, High Street. Supposed by two men one about 27 years of - ige, 5 feet 2 inches high/ brown bair and moustache, fresh complexion; dressed in brown clotn mixture suit, all of same muerial, and hard felt hat The other is about 29 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, d, rk hair no whiskers swarthy cottplexion ; dressed in dark cloth suit'and hard felt hat. Information to County Police Officj, OLD TRAFFORU, Manchester— Bow- street, September 14. Wanted at Staindrop on a warrant charged with obtain- ing money by false pretences on 8th instant :— JOHN, alias WILLIAM WATSON, about 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, swarthy complexion, aud pock pitted, dark hair, stout figure, has a pugilistic appearance, supposed to be a pot hawker, also has the appearance of a low horse dealer, and belongs to the Cumberland militia ; dressed in a chacke. 1 uTste'r coat, with belt across the back, dark cord vest, light cord trousers, hard felt hit, and strong laced boots with toe pUtes. Maybe accompanied by his wife, about 26 years of age, abiut 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh complexion, has a good setof toctb, ginger hair, proportionate figure, and speaks the Cumberland dialeet. This man has been hiriug traps, driving about the district buying horses in a wholesale way, to be delivered in a few days. Is supposed to be in possession of a number of flash notes aud cheques, and frequents commou lodging- houses. Information to Mr. Supt. GEORGE WARREN, advertised in the Police Gazette of 3rd instant, as wanted at Northampton for embezzlement, b not to be apprehended, as the warrant has been withdrawn. — Bow- street, September 14. Wanted at Newport, Monmouthshire, charged on a warrant with stealing, on 7th instant, from a dwelling- house, a new silver English lever Watch, No. 45611, with Bilver Albert, curb pAltera, and silver horse- shoe Appendage attached ; also a silver English lever Watch, No. 21856 j and £ 2 3s. 6d. in Gold aud Silver-.- ALFRED FUSSELL, a baker or confectioner, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 ILB. high, fair complexion, delicate looking, dimple on chin, dark hair, cut short, small sandy whiskers ou siden of face; dressed iu dark brown Scotch tweed suit, black hard bowler hat, and elastic- side thin boots ; his mother resides at Southampton ; he has worked at Birmingham, Manchester aLcl Bristol; none of the above property has been recovered. Description of JOHN CRAGO GOSLING, superinten- dent of the Shibden Industrial School, charged on warrant with stealing £ 148, on 29th ultimo, the property of the school managers :— he is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, grey hair and moustache, slight whis- kers, s'jar on cheek ( supposed left) ; dressed in a brown mixture suit, hard black felt hat, cariies a stick with claw shaped handle, has been a soldier and walks erect. Stolen from a dwelling- house, at Blackpool, between 9.40 and 10 a. m., on 10th instant :— a gold French lever demi hunting Watch, No. either 9684 or 8496. 9486 or 8694, in- scribed on the outside of outer case, ' Presented to Sergt. Major Concannon, Poit of Spain, 1877,' had attached a heavy euro Albert Guar11, each link marked 18 carat, and plain gold Locket; a gold breast Pin, rouBtl top, haviog square and compass, and torquoiae in, screws on pin. Supposed by a man who lodged in the house, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, no beard, thin face, long nose, face well sun- burnt and good set of teeth ; dressed in black round felt hat, grey sack coat, dark worsted cloth trousers, low laoed patent leather shoes with toe caps, and blue cloth in uppers. Stolen frjm a cote at Hindley Green, between 9 p. m. 4th and 6 a. m. 5th instant:— 6 Pigeons of the following descrip- tion— 3 blue hens, 1 ash coloured cock, 1 ditto hoD, 1 speckled hen, all common breed. Stolen from the bedy of EDWARD SHAW, oa or about 31 at ultimo ( t'ouui floating in the soa) :— 2 broad fluted Mf ot ish Rings, one silver, one pale gold, a gold Masonic Pin ( square and compass) ; a large silver Watch, by Walker, OornhiH; a long link plated Albert, with a Coin, size of 61. on swivel attached, gold one side, and blue enamel the ottur. Stolen fiotn a cart at Six Mile Bottom, Cambs, oi 4th instant :— a very large dust Coat, stone or drab colour, three pockets outside, one inside left breast, light brown i'niug, bone buttons, fit a man 6 feet 4 inches high. Suppose! by a man abaut 26 or 27 yea, rs of age, about 5 ft, 8 or 9 int. high, stout buiit, whiskers shaved off, dark complexion, wry flat nose, and very thick lips; dressed in black hard hat, dirk coat, pockets behind, worsted cord breeches, very largeribs, strapped with leather inside knees, brown leather leggings. Description of 3 tramping tailors wanted or warrant for stealing, at Tuubridge Wells on 5th instant, 5yards of fancy tweed black and blue mixture Cloth, and a ptir of Scissors : — lst, MACMAIION, 27 years of age. 5 feet 5 inches high, black hair, eyes, and moustache, and salow complexion; 2nd, TUCKER, 27 years of age, 5 fet 6 or 7 inches high, brown moustache and hair, no whislers, talks through his nose which is broken ; dressed in bl'ek coat and grey trousers ; 3rd, CROOKS, 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7' jujches high, pale complexion, promiient features, brown hair, beard, and moustache; dressed w a cheetei field eoat and all three wear hard felt hats, are of dirty appearance and drunken habits. Wanted on a warrant, charged vith stealing on or abottt 26th ultimo, a Dress, and some Towels and Dusters ( re- covered) ; also with stealing 3 fine flannel Shiits, marked ' G. Elliott, 13 th Hussars;' 6 Tablespoons; 6 Dessertspoons and C Teaspoons, all common and not marked ; also some Towels and Dusters marked ' Lloyd' or ' Elliott' ( uot recovered) ;— JEREMIAH CROXON, 43 years of age, 5 ft 7 inches high, light hazel eyes, dark brown hair, dark mous- tache, and veiy sunburned app? arance, having been abroad; dressed in a grey suit, and carrying a round tin box about the size of a hat box, and a canvas bag. He was discharged from the 60th Rifles at Gosport on 24th July last, has not'got dis- charge with him, but most likely got some things with him marked' 3 B. K R. R' He left" Mario w on 3rd instant.
