All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under oover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary, autlienticnted by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will bo inserted. %* Should irregularities arise in the dolivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. WIIEKEAS, the Coroner's Jury, on the 18th inst., found a verdict of wilful murder against Harry Hammond Swindells, for having, on the 16th inst., caused tho death of James Wild, by shooting him - with a. revolver. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person, other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United ^ Kingdom, who will give such information as shall lead to tho discovery of the Murderer. He is 49 years of ago, 5 feet 3^ inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, moustache and beard American fashion, whiskers shaved off, dark blue • eyes, Roman nose with blue mark on the bridge, high cheek bones, large mouth, lias only one or two teeth in upper jaw, scar on right side of neck, little tinger of right hand crooked, w. ilks with a swinging gait; dressed in a black nbbed double- breasted worsted slack back jackct ( the l ight shoulder and arm of which may boar trices oflim'owash), trowsers and vest f^ same material, now black soft billycock hat with e brim, najvspri& g side boots with square toes; ho formerly WAS steward in the service of the Allan Line Co., working between Liverpool and New York; is well known nt the Liverpool docks; will no doubt endeavour to escape to America. s 1 Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Mall, Oldham, who holds a Warrant for his arrest, Town Hall, Oldham, July 24, 1883. ( 20689 49293.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Patrick O'Brien or Bryan, 11028, convicted in Limerick, at Limerick Spring Assizes, on 4th March, 187.1, for larceny after previous conviction for felony, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude :— 38 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born in Temple- bredin, county Limerick, where he resided before conviction, his friends reside at Hospital, county Limerick; bald hair turning gray, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, small and cocked nose, regular mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, forehead receding, a round pimple near corner of right eye, P. and B. tattooed on right arm, average make, 5 feet 3j inches high. This man was discharged on licence from Mountjoy Prison on llith t- Jul , 1883, and went to Limerick. He reported himself at New Pallas on 16th July, but he has left that place, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the evet^ of his arrest h^ should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 31 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, August 20, 1883. ( 20904 M.- 49049.) Particulars relative to Convict John Cox, alias Murphy, alias Callaghan, alias Shoulden, alias George Johnston, 10652, convicted in Monaghan, at Assizes, on 7th March, 1878, for stealing from the person, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 40 years of age on conviction, married, is a horse dealer, born in Swanlinbar, county Cavan, resided before con- viction in Monaghan, his friends reside in Belfast; dark hair turning gray, gray eyes, dark eyebrows, cocked nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, large visage, cut marks on forehead, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Prison on 7th August, 1883, and went to Queens- town ; he left Queenstown on the 8tl) August, and stated he was going [ to a place near Millstreet, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 31 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, August 20, 1883. ( 20905 m.— 49050.) Xiicence- holder, John Kelly, Reg. No. 639, has not been arrested; hue- and- Cry, 1 6 th FqJjruary, 1883. Licence- holder, Philip Doyle, 14,738, has not been arrested ; Hue- and- Ory, 7th November, 1882. PARTICULARS relative to English convict Patrick Lynch, C 1623, convicted in Omagh, county Tyrone, on 11th October, 1876, for subsequent felony, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 23 years of age on conviction, single, is a tailor, born in Boyle, resided before conviction in Tunstall, Staffordshire his friends reside in Boyle, county Roscommon ; dark brown hair, blue eyes, dark complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, two cuts on crown, one on back of head, small scar above light eyebrow, two blue marks below left elbow, burn scar top of shoulder, blue tattoo marks above wrist, scar on small of back outside buttock, scar on back of right shoulder, four vaccination marks. on left arm, scars on right hip, on right thigh and on light shin, 5 feet 11 inches high. This man was released from Dartmoor Prison on 10th April, 1883, and reported himself on the 12th of same month to the Police at Dublin, on the 13th April he reported himself at Naas, on the 16th April at Athlone, on the 22nd April at Boyle, from whence he went on the same date to Mohill, county Leitrim, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, Dublin Castle, August 15, 1883. ( 26872 m.— 49582.) PARTICULARS relative to English Convict John M'Gowan, D 1189, convicted in Leicester, at Assizes, on 1st November, 1879, for manslaughter, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 70 years of age on conviction, widower, is a labourer, born in Mayo, resided before conviction in Chapel- en- frith ; gray hair, light blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, short stout make, 5 feet 2f inches high, scar on crown, right side of chest, and right side of belly, large roilnd scar on front of right shoulder, venesection marks on both arms. This man left London the 30th June, 1883, for Sligo, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, ~ July 25, 1883. ( 26735 M.— 49325.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict John O'Brien, 10765, convicted at Fermoy, county Cork, at Trinity Sessions, on 1st July, 1878, for larceny from person and former conviction, and sentenced to seven years' penal servitude :— 23 years of age on conviction, is a Roman Catholic, married, is a dealer, born in Clon- mel, resided before conviction in Barrack- street, Cork, his friends reside in Newmarket, Dublin ; dark bro> vn hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, regular mouth, sallow complexion, oval viiage, average make, 5 feet 7 inches high, lost a front upper tooth, scars on head, three boil marks on right shin, burn mark on inside of left ankle, mark in left groin, scar on upper lip. This prisoner escaped from Lusk Prison at 9 30 A. M., on the 13th instant. Notice.— k. reward of from £ 3 to £ 5 may be paid to any person who may apprehend and deliver up a convict who shall have effected his escape from a Government Prison. Application to be made to the Governor of the Prison. By Act 19th and 20th Vic., cap. 68, sec. 32, it is provided that any person who shall by any means whatever, aid and assist any prisoner to escape, or in attempting to escape, shall be guilty of felony, and being convicted thereof, shall be kept in penal servi- tude for any term not less than 6 nor more than 8 years. ( 26070 M.— 492 17 ) DESCRIPTION of the undermentioned juvenile offender, who absconded on 20th instant, at about one o'clock, while proceeding to the Reformatory from Naas Prison :— Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pretty stout make, sallow complexion, fair hair, gray eyes, nose a little turned up, round visage, heavy countenance, small mark of an old cut above right eye on forehead, and small wart on left side of upper lip, formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry ; his parents are dead. The dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of cord trowsers, cord sleeved vest, jerry hat, strong nailed boots fastened by strap and buckle, and blay cotton socks. The absconder is likely to enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of William John M'Cartney, native of Balmorel, near Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the morning of tlie 10th August, 1883, in the barony of Lower Massereene, parish of Killead, stolen a heifer, value for £ 12, the property of James Thompson, of Kilcross :— Two cut marks on fore- head, three vaccination marks on right arm, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 19 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark coat, light trowsers, dark vest, and military boots ; is a labourer ; is a deserter from tho Antrim Militia. DESCRIPTION of Charles Murray, native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 20th August, 1883, in the barony of Lower Massercene, parish of Killead, stolen a horse, value for £ 20, out of the stables of David Wallace, at Ballymather :— Long nose, sallow complexion, small thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, black hair and small black beard ; wore a dark tweed coat, dark trowsevs, and vest; is a horse and cattle drover. DEscRIPTION of tlie undernamed young offender who, on the 8th August, 1883, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— William John Orr, 318, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, sallow complexion, brown hair, small gray eyes, ordinary mouth, oval visage, burn mark on nose, J. tattoed on right forearm, blue mark between thumb and forefinger of left hand, and scar on forefinger of same hand ; formerly belonged to Belfast, where his parents reside. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consist^ of tlark tweed trowsers, gray tweed vest and overcoat, felt hat, nailed blucher boots, house No. 13. Tho Manager of the Reformatory will defray the exponse of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture liim with £ 1. The Manager of tho Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him withal. DESCRIPTION of Bernard O'Hare, native of Newry, who stands charged with having, on the 33rd July, 1883, in the barony of Upper Orier, parish of Newry, stabbed Patrick O'Hare, with a knife, and escaped from the escort when oti his way to Bridewell, on remand:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 37 years of ago, brown hair, small thin side whiskers and moustache; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Arthur Hagan ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6 th April, 1883. Belfast. Martin Robinson ( embezzlement), 1 has been ar- rested; hue and- Cry, 7th August, 1883. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of Michael Smith, native of Bruskey, who stands charged with having, at about nine o'clock P. M., on the 7th'August, 1883," in the barony of Clon mahon, parish of Ballintemple, feloniously stabbed Edward Smith on public road, near . townland of Bruskey, thereby endangering his life :— Old cut- mark over one eye, gray or blue eyes, long nose, dark freckled complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 5 or ( 5 inches high, a^ out. 37 years of age, dark hair; had side whiskers and moustache; had chin shaved. Andrew Hehir ( prison breach), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 39th June, 1883. Bridget Brew, described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th March, 1883, has not yet been found. Cork. DESCRIPTION of Michael Sullivan, native of Barra- hauring, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd May, 1883, in tlie barony of East Muskery, parish of Donoughmore, stolen three sheep, the property of Richard Golden:— Gray eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inche3 high, about 18 years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a tweed coat, cord trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Ellen Rose ( mother's surname Hannon), native of Limerick city, who stands charged with having, on the 31st July, 1883, failed and neglected to appear at Passage WeSt petty Sessions, to prosecute her deposition in a rape case, as bound by recognizance to do:— Regular nose, fresh- com- plexion, regular face, medium make, about 5 feet 4 inches high, about 36 years of age, light brown hair; wore an old grayish shawl, grayish petticoat, braided with red from knees down, and ' an old black silk body; speaks with Limerick' accent. The Con- stabulary at Passage West hold a Warrant for her arrest, and in the event of her being found it is re- quested that the Head Constable there be telegraphed to, so that the Warrant may be sent on with a man who can identify lier. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on tho 33rd August, 1883, absconded from the Highpark Reformatory School, at Drumcondra, county Dublin :— Agnes Leavy, 13j22- years of age, 4 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, liazel eyes, medium nose, medium mouth, oval visage, mark on the arm, formerly belonged to Temple Bar, her parents reside at 2, Royal- row, Ormond Market, Dublin. The school dress consists of brown stuff, brown petticoat, white slip, white cotton knitted stockings, and strong leather boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of her conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture her with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of a- person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the ' 8th. of July, 1883; at Tuam, in the barony of Dunmore} parish of Tuaru, stolen a jennet, the property of John Darcy, of Tuam, and offered it for sale on his way from Tuam to Williamstown, Galway, E. R, in which direction he then pro- ceeded :— Brown moustache and shaved chin, long face, slender make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard jerry hat, blue pilot • old frock coat, corduroy trowsers, and moleskin vest; military highlow boots; is a tramp,, looks like a tinker. Garnctt, which were stolen out of a box in his residence at Loughbrown, barony of Connell, parish of Pollardstown, between the 2nd and 23rd instant:— 1. A silver cream jug, chased crest, castellated tower, had either three or four feet, about half an inch high. 2. King's, DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 3' tli September, 1882, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County:— Peter Clarke, 712, 18 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, short nose, regular mouth, oval visage, scar on each cheek, formerly belonged to Belfast, his parents reside at 25, Millfield- lane, Belfast. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Patrick Cosgrove ( junior), ( aggravated assault), has been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, - 40 July, 1883. Mayo. James Ruddy ( assault endangering life), not ar- rested; llue- and- Crv, 10th April, 1883. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Hosey, native of Edenderry, who stands charged with having, on the 29th July, 18831* in the barony of Lune, parish of Killaconnigan, broken into the dwelling- house of Michael Browne, of Donore, with intent to commit a felony therein :— Old cut on upper lip and bridge of nose, gray eyes, flat nose, fuir complexion, small face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 40 ' years of age, dark brown hair; wore a hard black hat, tweed coat, light tweed trowsers and vest; all the clothing much worn ; is a tramping tailor. This man has been committed for trial to Trim Quarter Sessions, to be held on 13th November, 1883, and may have committed crime elsowhere. Athboy, August 6, 1883. ( 57939 C.- 7610.) Francis Kelly ( absconding when on bail to take his trial on a charge of attempt to commit a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th March, 1883. Queen's. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd August, at 10.15 P. M., in the barony of Upper- woods, parish of • Offerlane, committed highway robbery at Rushall, near Castletown, by taking a purse and sixpence or sevenpence which it contained from Michael Hyland, of Aughafin Apparently lame as if boots were leaning on him, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark brown huir; wore asoft hat, dark or blue coat, light trowsers, check shirt, and elastic boots ; is sus- pceted to bo a trump. x Mountrath, August 24, 1883. DESCRIPTION of Edward Tobin ( mother's surname Ryan), native of Doonane, who stands charged with having, on tho 21st July, 1883, at Clonbrock, in the barony of Sleevemargry, parish of Killabban, seriously assaulted John Mulhall, by striking him with an iron bar on the head, from the effects of which his life is in danger:— Hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age; wore a soft, hat, dark tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a miner. DESCRIPTION of Thomas M'Keon, native of Athlone, who stands chargpd with having, on the 17th June, 1883, in the barony of Moycarne, parish of Creagh, made his escape from the Lunatic Asylum, where he had been committed as a dangerous lunatic, and is now at large :— Bight foot clubbed, gray eyes, dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 45 years of age, gray hair; wore a tweed cap, frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and frieze vest, which are the Asylum clothes ; is a tailor.
