The Names of Persons charged witk Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. Th* Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It ii requested that all oommunicationt for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it ii desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mngt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and el Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forma 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London," PRISON and PC LICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. Description of DAVID ROACH, alias RUDGE, alias BLACK JACK, wanttd at BoltoD, on a charge of unlawfully inflicting grievious bodily harm :— he is about 48 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather stout make, swarthy complexion, black hair at d moustache, turning grey, and no • whiskers ; was dressed in dark shabby dirty clothes, and dark blue cap, and a native of Cork, Ireland, is sometimes employed as a labourer by ' hobby horse' proprietor-', and has also acted as Bully, and resided with Leigh at common lodg- ing houses. By a woman ( who was engaged as cook, but absconded on 8th instant, after three days' service, wearing stolen bocts), from 30 to 33 years of age, rather short, dark complexion, freckled face, slightly pockmarked, dimple on chin, one tooth out left side upper jaw, dark hair cut short at back, slight fringe over forehead and parted at side, medium height and figure, and rather slender waist; dressed in dark print dress with white spots, black hat trimmed with same material as dress, and dark green ulster. She was accompanied by a man ( who is supposed to have been concerned in the robbery) and a child. The man, who stated he was a waiter out of a situation, is about 30 to 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, full red face, medium figure, slight fair moustache, no whiskers, fair hair cut short, scar on nose between the eyes; dressed in dark plaid jacket and hard felt hat. The child is about 5i years of age, sharp features, and light hair ; dressed in red and white cotton frock and white straw poke bonnet. J10 reward will be paid to any person giving such informa- tion to James Terry, Chief Constable, BRIGHTON, as will lead tc the apprehension and conviction of the offenders and re- covery ot the pioperty, or in proportion to the amount thereof. — Bow- street, August 17. Description of ROBERT GRINDLEY, charged under warrant with stealing £( 5 8s. OJd., whilst a Trustee to the Stockport Coachman's Sick Benefit Society in April and July, last: 31 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh com- plexion, full featured, cast in one eye, and has a peculiar twitch at mouth when speaking to any person, stout build ; dressed iu dark clothes, black hard felt hat, and elastic- side boots, slight whiskers aud moustache, arid a groom or coach- man; his mother resides at Preston, Brocklehurst, Shrews- bury, and he has a friend named ' G. Smith,' working in the carriage depar- ment at Wolvertou Railway Station, Grindley. Wrote a letter to the Secretary last night, stating he was sailing for Canada from London, but which is supposed to be ineorrect, as he bad no means. The envelops bore the post- mark of ' Shrewsbury' upon it, anil he will no doubt be found at his mother's, or Smith's, residence. Information by wire to J. B. Stolen from a stable at Stroud, on 6th instant:— two horse- clipping Machines— 1st, a Clark's patent nearly new Machine ; 2ud, a similar Machine, with no name upon it, only the word ' Patent'; and a pair of man's heavy nailed B pots, with patent fastenings and toecaps ( partly worn). Also from a stable at Paiuswiek, on 7th instant :— a dark cross striped mixture Waistcoat, with black sleeves, the left has been recently mended at the elbow, and the undeipart of the right sleeve is new; a pair of horse- clipping Scissors about half- worn ; aud a black- handled Razor. By a tramping groom, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, brown hair, cut short, bald on crown, whiskers shaved off, with the exception of a little near the ears, and has a p- culiar look with his eyes ; dressed in a blue serge short coat, light mixture cloth trousers, brown cloth leg- gings, buttoned underneath to his trouser.', black hard hat, and white necktie. This man calls at stabler, under the pretence of seeking work, he then awaits his opportunity to commit robberies and decamps. Information to Mr. Supt. A.
