DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JULY 31, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. STOLEN from the person of a gentleman at Farn- worth in Widnes Athletic Sports, on Saturday, 21st July, 1883, a gold keyless lever demi hunting watch, No. 9,371, maker, " S. Goldstone, Manchester," gold dial, chapters and fingers; a gold Albert chain, long and short links alternately, had two short chains hanging from bar, with a locket made of two spade Vace guineas attached to end of one chain, and a gold compass with white dial to end of the other chain. Ten pounds reward will be paid for such informa- tion as will lead to tho apprehension and conviction of the thief, and recovery of tho property. Ho is 4 9 years of ago, 5 feet 3$ inches high, sallow • complexion, dark brown hair, moustache and beard American fashion, whiskers shaved off, dark blue eyes, Roman nose with blue mark on the bridge, high cheek bones, large mouth, has only one or two teeth in upper jaw, scar on right side of neck, little finger of right hand crooked, walks with a swinging gait; dressed in a black ribbed double- breasted worsted slack back jackot ( the right shoulder and arm of which may bear traces of limewash), trowsers and vest ofj same matorial, now black soft billycock hat with largo brim, now spring side boots with square toes ; ho formerly was stoward in tho service of the Allan Line Co., working between Liverpool and New York; is well known at the Liverpool docks; will no doubt endeavour to escape to America. DESCRIPTION of Richard Coultate, wanted by Warrant fit' embezzling £ 100, the moneys of his employers:— Ho is 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, round full face, light- brown hair, moustache and side whiskers, shaved on chin, " Stout build, broad- shoulders, walks very erect and with a quick step, speaks rather sharp; dressed when last seen in a black worsted morning coat und vest, and black billycock hat with broad brim. DESCRIPTION of Charles Jager, a bank clerk, late of 34, Darville- road, Stoke Newington, who absconded on 19th ult., and whose arrest is soughton a Warrant for stealing a cheque, the property of his employers;— Age 21, height 5 feet 10 or 11 inches, slim, com- plexion fresh, sharp features, large nose, hair brown ( cut short and parted over left temple), no whiskers, slight fair moustache, eyes gray or hazel ' dress, when last seen, gray suit and very low hard felt hat; gold tie pin, shape of a horse- shoe, with whip through it, lash absent. He is of horsey appearance and frequents billiard rooms and the company of betting men, and is well- known at the houses they frequent; supposed accompanied by a female, age 20, height 5 feet 2 inches; complexion, hair ( cut short behind) and eyes dark; blue dress, waistband with large horse- shoe buckle; black silk hat. They left No. 10, Guildford- street, Russell- square; on the morning of 19th ult., in two Hansom cabs with portmanteau each, the female taking away another portmanteau in a four- wheel cab same evening. The above reward will be paid by Messrs. Munns and Longdon, 8, Old Jewry, London, E. C., to any person who shall give information leading to Jager's apprehension. WANTED, by Warrant for fraud, Henry George Hayes :— Age about 38 years, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, thin sharp features and lips, dark brown hair, chin shaved, small whiskers, haggard or careworn appearance, and of gentlemanly address ; stated that he was a butter merchant from London commencing business in this city. He presented himself at the Consolidated Bank, Limited, King- street, Manchester, on the 26th May last, and requested to be allowed to open an acconnt, at the same time depositing £ 50 in cash, and two bank cheques, one for £ 96 12s. on Lloyd's Banking Company, Limited, Wolverhampton, and tlie other on Stamford, Spalding, and Boston Banking Company, Northampton, for £ 83 10s. 6d. The cheques are found on inquiry to be worthless. He also gave references in Manchester which were found to be false. He thereby obtained a cheque book on the Consolidated Bank, numbered 892,571 to 892,600, which he will no doubt use to commit other frauds. Police Officers are requested to give immediate information to bankers, money changers, and others, and should any of the cheques be presented, to forward information without delay. The above reward of £ 10 will be given by the Directors of the bank for such information as will lead to the arrest of the said Henry George Hayes. WANTED in this borough by Warrant, on a charge of stealing a horse and trap ( which has since been recovered):— Daniel Tumacliffe, 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, sickly looking, scar on left temple, dark brown hair, no whiskers, dressed in a dark short coat, gray trowsers, low crowned felt hat, and elastic boots ; all his clothing are greasy; supposed to have gone to Londonderry. Licence- holder, Philip Doyle, 14,738, has not been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 7th November, 1882. SCOTTISH POLICE. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. THEFT OF £ 108 9s. ltf. WANTED here, charged with tho theft of £ 108 9s. Id., the property of Mr. J. D. M'Arthur, hozier and glover, 265, Sauchiehall- street, in whose employment he was as Cashier:— Patrick Valentine King, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark hair parted in centre, heavy reddish moustache, otherwise clean shaved, pale complexion, some pimples on nose and face, narrow chin, dressed in a dark worsted shooting coat, occasionally wears a light overcoat and black felt hat, a native of Ireland and speaks with slight Irish accent, resided in lodgings at 17, Tureen- street. Absconded with the money on Tuesday last, 10th July current, and believed to be making for Boston where he has got friends. • Police Officers are requested to have the necessary search made for accused at hotels, shipping, and other likely* place's, and " should he be arrested or traced, communicate with A. M'CALL, Chief Constable. Glasgow, July, 13, 1883. ( 26668 M.— 49215.) £ 100 REWARD. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. FORGERY OF ROYAL BANK NOTES. WHERBAS, since the 25th May last, twenty- nino forged or fabricated notes, purporting to be £ 1 notes of the Royal Bank of Scotland, have been uttered in Glasgow and the west of Scotland, the above reward of £ 100 will be paid by the Directors of the Royal Bank of Scotland to the person who will furnish the subscriber, or any officer of Police, with such infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the person or persons concerned in the forging and uttering of the said notes, and to the recovery of the plate from which they had been printed. Description of forged notes :— The forged notes are all numbered M^!, and dated 1st July, 1882, and have the words " Promise to pf^ y to James Wright or the Bearer" engraved on the body of them, whereas all the genuine Royal Bank notes issued since 1874 have only the words " Promise to pay on demand to the Bearer," and the name " James Wright" omitted. The plate from which the forged notes have been printed has borne the words " Engraved on steel by W. H. Lizars, Edinburgh." Description of a man who passed several of the forged notes in shops in the Eastern District of Glasgow :— A man, from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, bare face, which is red and blotched, very small nose, and stout made.; dressed in a black shabby frock coat bound with very broad black braid, and black satin hat. Had a dissipated and broken- down appearance, and spoke with a Scotch accent. Bankers, engravers, lithographers, shopkeepers, police officers, and others are requested to be on the alert, and should any clue or information be obtained, to communicate with the subscriber, or with the local police, at the nearest police station. PARTICULARS relative to English Convict John M'Gowan, D 1189, convicted in Leicester, at Assizes, on 1st November, 1879, for manslaughter, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 70 years of age on conviction, widower, is a labourer, born in Mayo, resided before conviction in Chapel- en- frith ; gray hair, light blue eyes, fresh complexion, round visage, short stout make, 5 feet 2| inches high, scar on crown, right side of chest, and right side of belly, large round scar on front of right shoulder, venesection marks on both arms. This man left London the 30th June, 1883, for Sligo, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. S ( 20735 m.— 49325.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict John O'Brien, 10705, convicted at Fermoy, county Cork, at Trinity Sessions, on 1st July, 1878, for larceny from person and former conviction, and sentenced to seven years' penal servitude :— 23 years of age on conviction, is a Roman Catholic, married, is a dealer, born in Clon- mel, resided before conviction in Barrack- street, Cork, his friends reside in Newmarket, Dublin; dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, rogular mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, average make, 5 feet 7 inches high, lost a front upper tooth, scars on head, three boil marks on right shin, burn mark on inside of left ankle, mark in left groin, scar on upper lip. This prisoner escaped from Lusk Prison at 9 30 A. M., on the 13th instant. Notice A. reward of from to £ 5 may be paid to any porson who may apprehend and deliver up a . convict who shall have effected his escape from a Government Prison. Application to be made to the Governor of the Prison. By Act 19th and 20th Vic., cap. 68, sec. 32, it is provided that any person who shall by any means whatever, aid and assist any prisoner to escape, or in attempting to escape, shall be guilty of felony, and being convicted thereof, shall be kept in penal servi- tude for any term not less than. jS nor more than 8 years. PARTICULARS relative to convict Rachel Templeton, 2437, convicted in Armagh, county Armagh, on 13th July, 1878, for larceny, and sentenced to 7 years' penal sorvitude:— 40 years of age on conviction, is a Protestant, single, is an embroidress, born in Market- hill, resided before conviction in Armagh, her friends reside in Portadown; brown hair, hazel eyes, light qyobrows, long nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, round visago, slight make, burn mark on loft cheek, 5 feet high. This convict was discharged from " The Shelter," Dublin, 18th April, 1883, on licence, and went to reside at Armagh. She left Portadown about the 25th ultimo, without notifying her departure to the R. I. C., and her present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, June 19, 1883. ( 26S08 M.— 48889.) DESCRIPTION of Bernard O'Hare, native of Newry, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd July, 1883, in the barony of Upper Orier, parish of Newry, stabbed Patrick O'Hare, with a knife, and escaped from tho escort when on his way to Bridewell, on remand:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 27 years of age, brown hair, small thin side whiskers and moustache; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Arthur Hagan ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th April, 1883. Carlow. DESCRIPTION of four fat lambs, the property of Patrick Hanlon, which were stolen off his land, at Grangeford, on night of 24th July, 1883, viz. :— A ewe and three ram lambs, each about five months old, and branded on off side with " J. DESCRIPTION of Andrew Hehir, native of Corrofin, who stands charged with having, on the 27th June, 1883, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliff, escaped from the gaol at Ennis, where he was in custody on a charge of prison breach :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6^ " inches high, about 19 years of age, light brown hair; wore a soft jerry hat, old black tweed coat, gray trowsers, dark tweed vest, and military shirt; had no boots on when he left; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Edward M'Garrigle ( mother's surname M'Ginlay), native of Knather, who stands charged with having, on the 13 th or morning of the 14th of June, 1883, in the barony of Tirhugh, parish of Kilbarron, stolen two heifer calves, the property of John Donagher, of Dooballea ;— Smart active appear- ance, broad forehead, high cheek bones, pleasing looking, mark of an old cut on the back of jliead with no hair on it but covered by hair drawn across it, brown eyes, small sharp pointed nose, fresh complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 27 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard jerry hat, heather- coloured pea jacket, brown tweed trowsers and vest; is a shoemaker. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 8th of July, 1883, at Tuam, in the barony of Dunmore, parish of Tuam, stolen a jennet, the property of John Darcy, of Tuam, and offered it for sale on his way from Tuam to Williamstown, Galway, E. R., in which direction he then pro- ceeded :— Brown moustache and shaved chin, long face, slender make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard jerry hat, blue pilot old frock coat, corduroy trowsers, and moleskin vest; military highlow boots; is a tramp, looks like a tinker. Description of the jennet:— A six- year- old male jennet, dark- brown colour, black mane and tail, a little grayish under the straddle, small white spot on the off fore leg ( between the knee and hoof), marked as if by a fall on both knees; value for about £ 8. DESCRIPTION of James Hardy, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th July, 1883, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Kenmare, absconded with five watches given to him for repair, with a felonious intent of converting them to his own use:— Large drooping moustache, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8^ inches high, about 36 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, rather worn; is an itinerant watchmaker. Description of the watches :—• 1. Silver lever watch, marked on centre of dial, Railway timepiece, supposed No. 21118, maker Sewel, Liverpool; value £ 4. 2. Silver watch, flint dial, No. unknown ; value £ 5. 3. Silver Geneva watch, No. 84357 ; value £ 3. 4. Gold watch, owner's name, Eliza O'Brien, scratched inside cover, No. unknown ; value £ 4 10s. 5. Silver watch, self- winding, No. unknown; value £ I. Kenmare, July 17, 1883. ( 59425 c.— 9776.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 15th May, 1883, absconded from the Rehoboth- place Reformatory School, rift Dublin:—^ Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 17 years oFage, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, pale complexion,, fair hair, gray eyes, slightly turned up nose, round visage, heavy brows; small mark of cut above right eye on forehead ; formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry, and his parents are dead. The school dress consists of cord trowsers, cord sleeved vest, blucher boots nailed, and fastened by strap and buckle; had no jacket on him when he left. This boy is very fond of the army, and may try to enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Garnett, which were stolen out of a box in his residence at Loughbrown, barony of Connell, parish of Pollardstown, between the 2nd and 23rd instant:— 1. A silver cream jug, chased crest, castellated tower, had either three or four feet, about half an inch high. 2. An evening dress suit lined with silk ; value for about £ 9 ; would fit a man about five feet five inches high. Kildare, July 28, 1883. ( 57909 c.— 7552.) DESCRIPTION of William Griffiths, native of London,, who stands charged with having, on tho 10th June, 1883, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Bally- sax, obtained £ 9 under false pretences, by- presentment of an unsigned cheque :— Hazel eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, smart active make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age ; wore a jerry hat, dark brown frock coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a private in the 1st East Kent Regiment. William Tegan ( attempt to commit a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1883. The man, name and native place unknown, described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th March, 1883, ( intimidation), not arrested. Kilkenny. Thomas Watson ( robbery of an ass, cart, and harness), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 3rd April, 1883. Leitrim. DESCRIPTII IN of Michael Gearty native of Annagh, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd July, 1883, at Annagh, in the barony of Carrigallen, parish of Carrigallen, seriously assaulted Eliza Lynch by striking her with a spade on the head, from the effects of which her life is in danger:— Large mouth, wide teeth, shaves his face, gray eyes regular nos « , fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 38 years of age, brown hair, wore a low black hat, black cloth coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a small farmer. Patrick Keely ( attempt to set fire to a house, and failing to take his trial when bailed to do so), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1883. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Cosgrove ( junior), mother's surname Punch, native of Cappamore, county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 16th of July, 1883, in the barony of Owneybeg, parish of Tuogh, seriously assaulted John Connors, of Portnard, county Limerick, by striking him on the head with a stone, thereby causing a scalp wound :— Thin white hair on jaws, slight moustache, gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 21 years of age, very fair hair; wore a brcrtvn" Tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of John Hart, native place unknown' who stands charged with having, on the 10th July, 1883, in tho barony of Clondonagh, parish of Rath- downey, attemptod to pick pockets. He is committed for trial and may have committed offences else- where :— Bald on top of head, grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, rogular face, medium make, five feet six inches high, about fifty years of age, dark . hair, wore a brown top coat, light tweedtrowsers, and vest; is a tramp. DESCRIPTION of Anthony Hale, native of Bally- ogan, who stands charged with having, on the ' ind or 3rd April, 1883, in tho barony of Tireragh, parish of Castleconnor, stolen a heifer ( since found), the property of John Timlin, of Corballa, in said parish:— Face swelled under jaws, black side whiskers turning gray, gray eyes, large thick nose, fresh complexion, full face, very stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 48 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a round soft hat, dark frieze coat, corduroy trowsors, and gray tweed vest; is a farm or. DESCRIPTION of Julia Comerford, native of Irby, Roscrea, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd July, 1883, in the barony of Ikerrin, parish of Roscrea, abandoned her infant child, thereby exposing, its life to danger :— Is cheerful looking, brown eyes, regular nose, fair freckled complexion, thin face medium make, 5 feet high, about 23 years of age, red hair; wore a green shawl; is a servant. DESCRIPTION of the following property, stolen by some person or persons unknown, on the night of the 17th or morning of the 18th July, 1883, from the farmyard of William Heffernon, of Dranganbeg, barony of Clanwilliam, and parish of Killardry :— 1. An ass's winkers, having a piece of bridle reins for a throat band, to which a brass buckle is attached. 2. A horse collar and hames, nearly new. 3. DESCRIPTION of Michael Cahill ( mother's surname Shanahan), native of Foylenamon, who stands charged with having, on the 24th May, 1883, at Borrisoleigh, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Upper, parish of Glenkeen, seriously assaulted Laurence Ryan, by striking him on the head with a stone, from the effects of which he died on the 7th June, 1883 :— Shaves all his face except small whiskers under the ears ; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, broad fat face, stout make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 30" years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a slouched hat, dark frieze coat, dark gray tweed trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Charles M'Dermott native of Strabane, who stands charged with having, on the 16th April, 1883, in the barony of Upper Strabane, parish of Upper Badoney, obtained a heifer by false pretences, and afterwards selling same in the fair of Plumbridge, and absconding with the amount:— Three warts under right ear adjoining cheek bone, the result of evil, shuffling swaggering gait when walking ; large wild gray eyes, regular nose, pale yellow com- plexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 or 33 years of age, dark hair, shave3 all his face; wore a milky white hat, brown coat, trowsers, and vest, greasy looking and shabby; is a low cattle dealer. DESCRIPTION of a watch, the property of Edmond Power, which was stolen from his house at Dungarvan, barony of Decies- without- Drum, and parish of Dungarvan, on the 28th of April, 1883: — A gold chronometer double- cased watch, small dent in front case, the word " chronometer " engraved on the back case ; cost £ 150, value now for about £ 50 ; makers, Barnshaw, London. DESCRIPTION of a donkey cart, which was stolen from Mrs. Mary Donohoe, of Clonmorrill, parish and barony of Delvin, county Westmeath, on the night of the 14th or morning of the 15th instant, by some person or parsons unknown, viz.:— Body of cart much worn, shafts a little worn at top, a small crack in one shaft at rack, two irons en each side for a box, the wheels nearly new, had no name on; value for about £ 3. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 31st day of May, 1883, in the barony of Moyashel and Magheradernon, parish of Mullingar, stolen from the house of Mr. Cramer Roberts, Taitestown, several articles of silver plate ( see Hue- and- Cry of 5th instant), all of which have since been re- covered :— Down- looking and ill- looking, slightly stooped shoulders, stout make ; 5 feet 7 inches high, about 50 years of age; wore a soft hat, old faded tweed coat, and black troswers.
