DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JUNE 26, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 50 REWARD. DESCRIPTION of Charles Jager, a bank clerk, late of 34, Darville- road, Stoke Newington, who absconded on 10th ult., and whose arrest is sought on a Warrant for stealing a cheque, the property of his employers :— Age 21, height 5 feet 10 or 11 inches, slim, com- plexion fresh, sharp features, large nose, hair brown ( cut short and parted over left temple), ho whiskers, slight fair moustache, eyes gray or hazel;. dress, when last seen, gray suit and very low hard felt hat; gold tie pin, shape of a horse- shoe, with whip through it, lash absent. He is of horsey appearance and frequents billiard rooms and the company of betting men, and is well- known at the houses they frequent; supposed accompanied by a female, age 20, height 5 feet 2 inches; complexion, hair ( cut short behind) and eyes dark; blue dress, waistband with large horse- shoe buckle ; black silk hat. They left No.' 10, Guildford- street Russell- square, on the morning of - 19th ult. fin hvo Wwisnm^ a* with portmanteau each, the female taking away another portmanteau in a four- wheel cab- same • evening. The above reward will be paid by Messrs. Munns and Longdon, 8, Old Jewry, London, E. C., to any person who shall give information leading to Jager's apprehension. Information to be given to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W. ; to Messrs. Munns and Longdon, 8, Old Jewry, E. ( 26542 M.— 48939.) £ 10 REWARD. WANTED, by Warrant for fraud, Henry George Hayes :— Age about 38 years, 5 feet 7incheshigh, slender build, pale complexion, thin sharp features and lips, dark brown hair, chin shaved, small whiskers, haggard or careworn appearance, and of gentlemanly address; stated that he was a butter merchant from London commencing business in this city. He presented himself at the Consolidated Bank, Limited, King- street, Manchester, on the 26th May last, and requested to be allowed to open an account, at the same time depositing £ 50 in cash, and two bank cheques, one for £ 96 12s. on Lloyd's Banking Company, Limited, Wolverhampton, and the other on Stamford, Spalding, and Boston Banking Company, Northampton, for £ 33 10s. Cd. The cheques are found on inquiry to be worthless. He also gave references in Manchester which were found to be false. He thereby obtained a cheque book on the Consolidated Bank, numbered 892,571 to 892,600, which he will no doubt use to commit other frauds. Police Officers are requested to give immediate information to bankers, money changers, and others, and should any of the cheques be presented, to forward information without delay. The above reward of £ 10 will be given by the Directors of the bank for such information as will lead to the arrest of the said Henry George Hayes. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, ' Town Hall, Manchester, own Hall, Manchester, June 2, 1883. ( 58208 c 5358.) of Dudley was entered from an adjoining void house, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.:— Five silver Geneva watches, Nos. 66, 99, 842, 18296, and 28355. Twenty- three old metal Verge watches, Nos. 16, 345, 445, 477, 549, 683, 820, 889, 2415, 2591, 3720, 4779, 4944, 6355, 6522, 8231, 8382, 9558, 12931, 17232, and three not numbered. One old silver Verge watch, not numbered, has a name on outside case. One pair of plain silver sleeve links. One suit of men's black worsted cord clothes, rather broad cord, bound with braid, new, size 3. One pair of course black cloth trowsers, fall fronts, lined with swansdown, size 5. One single- breasted vest, dark gray and white, coarse tweed, and five new silkneck erchiefs, plaid patterns, of various colours. Further Particulars. M., May 27th, 1883, a pawn shop in the borough a - ecrete a basket in an mount at Deepfields, which upon being exami Ti was found to contain 57 of the watches and some other portions of the stolen property. One of the men— stout, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches in height, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in soft billycock hat, short black jacket, and dark trowsers; had the appearance of a labourer. The other man not so stout as the above, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches in height, dark moustache; dressed in a short dark coat and hard square topped hat. STOLEN, from a dwelling- house in this borough, between the 23rd and 26th instants, one diamond ring, set in plain gold setting, and oblong shape; one plain gold ring, with white stone; one gold watch key, with a seal set on a swivel in the handle, with a green and spotted stone; two gold seals ; two silver pencil cases; one Queen Anne silver teapot; one wine strainer ; one punch ladle ; one fish slice ; one dozen each of large silver forks and spoons, fiddle pattern, all marked with the letter " B" in Old English on the handles; also a gent's dark mixture coat, with small white spots running through, dark bone buttons with a light spot on them, one pocket inside left breast, and two in laps behind. STOLEN, from a dwelling- house in this borough, between the 2nd and 27th instants, a white alabaster framed mantle- piece clock, about 18 inches high, standing on a black wood frame, about 14 inches long, and an oblong glass shade. FAILED to report his change of residence, licence holder, G 408, Henry Jackson, alias Robert Nally, a groom, native of Dublin, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7f inches high, stout build, brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, round features, scar on right elhow joint, flat- footed, fifth toe of each foot overlaps fourth, convicted at Liverpool Sessions, 17th April, 1880, of being in possession of counterfeit coin, and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; released from Her Majesty's Convict Prison, Portsmouth, 15th March, 1883, on licence. He was previously convicted at Dublin, 4th February, 1879, of larceny, and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment. Information to GEOROE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent, Detective Department, Liverpool. CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. FORGERY OF ROYAL BANK NOTES. WHEREAS, since the 25tli May last, twenty- nine forged or fabricated notes, purporting to be £ 1 notes of the Royal Bank of Scotland, have been uttered in Glasgow and the west of Scotland, the above reward of £ 100 will be paid by the Directors of the Royal Bank of Scotland to the person who will furnish the subscriber, or any officer of Police, with such infor- mation as will lead to the apprehension and convic- tion of the person or persons concerned in the forging and uttering of the said notes, and to the recovery of the plate from which they had been printed. Description of forged notes :— The forged notes are all numbered MS, and dated 1st July, 1882, and have the words " Promise to pay to James Wright or the Bearer" engraved on the body of them, whereas all the genuine Royal Bank notes issued since 1874 have only the words " Promise to pay on demand to the Bearer," and the name " James Wright" omitted. The plate from which the forged notes have been printed has borne the words " Engraved on steel by W. H. Lizars, Edinburgh." Description of a man who passed several of the forged notes in shops in the Eastern District of Glasgow :— A man, from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, bare face, which is red and blotched, very small nose, and stout made; dressed in a black shabby frock coat bound with very broad black braid, and black satin hat. Had a dissipated and broken- down appearance, and spoke with a Scotch accent. Bankers, engravers, lithographers, shopkeepers, police officers, and others are requested to be on the alert, and should any clue or information be obtained, to communicate with the subscriber, or with the local police, at the nearest police station. PARTICULARS relative to convict Rachel Templeton, 2437, convicted in Armagh, county Armagh, on 13th July, 1878, for larceny, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude :— 40 years of age on conviction, is a Protestant, single, is an embroidress, born in Market- hill, resided before conviction in Armagh, her friends reside in Portadown ; brown hair, hazel eyes, light eyebrows, long nose, medium mouth, fresh com- plexion, round visage, slight make, burn mark on left cheek, 5 feet high. This convict was discharged from " The Shelter," Dublin, 18th April, 1883, on licence, and went to reside at Armagh. She left Portadown about the 25th ultimo, without notifying her departure to the R. I. C., and her present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the Oth section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 26508 m.— 48889.) PARTICULARS relative to Convict Ellen Murray, B 2 7, convicted in Atlilone, county Westmeath, at Quarter Sessions, on 9th January, 18S0, for larceny and former conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 40 years of age on conviction, is a dealer, born in Roscommon, resided before conviction in Athlone, her friends reside at same place; fair hair, blue eyes, light eyebrows, short and thick nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, broad visage, stout make, 5 feet 2 inches high. This woman was discharged from Mountjoy Prison on licence, 9th May, 1883, and went to Longford. She left Longford the 10th May, 1883, and stated she was going to Carrigallen, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 ifc 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 26454 m.— 48813.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 7tli May, 1883, absconded from the Rehoboth- place Reformatory School at Dublin :— William Williams, No. 203, about 14 years of age, 4 feet 2 inches high, stout make, walks badly, very fresh complexion, very fair hair, gray eyes, small nose, round visage, small mole on left side of forehead, tattoos of Indian ink on one of his arms, formerly belonged to Knockadaragh, county Limerick, where his parents reside. The school dress consists of bad old gray frieze jacket, light cord trowsers, cord vest, nailed boots fastened by straps and buekles, ojd black jerry cap, new blay calico shirt well stamped, and blay cotton socks. This boy was on Burgh- quay on Tuesday morning, 8th instant j he changed his jacket and hat; knows nothing of the city, and must therefore wander about and beg for his living till arrested. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Jastice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Bernard M'Parland ( sheep stealing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 18tli May, 1883. Arthur Hagan ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th April, 1883. Belfast. William Davidson, described in last Hue- and- Cry, has been traced to an asylum in Yorkshire. Cavan. Thomas Maguire ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1st June, 1883. Clare. DESCRIPTION of the following articles, which were stolen out of the dwelling- house of Patrick Hynes, of Noughaville, barony of Burren, parish of Nougha- ville, on the morning of the 3rd of May, 1883, viz. : — A black cashmere dress ; a black Russell tiord dress; a red crochet worked worsted pettycoat; a pair of women's laced boots, small piece of leather on both heels, mended on soles with gutta percha ; a small box containing one set of bog oak earrings and brooch ( shamrock pattern); a set of silver ear- rings and broach ( fern pattern); a necklet and bracelet of white shells; all value for about £ 2 sterling. DESCRIPTION of Frank Boyle, native of Adderwell, who stands charged with having, on the night of 18th June, 1883, in the barony of Boylagh, parish of Inniskeel, stolen two heifers:— Good- looking, hazel eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 26 years of age; wore a blue English tag coat, dark trowsers and vest. Description of the heifers :— 1. Three years old, black sides, white back and tail, wide horns ; value for £ 6 10s. 2. Two years old, red sides, white back and mouth, horns wide and turned backwards ; value for £ 4. Dungloe, June 23, 1883. ( 53257 c.— 5443.) DESCRIPTION of Edward M'Garrigle ( mother's surname M'Ginlay), native of Knather, who stands charged with having, on the l3th or morning of the 14th of June, 1883, in the barony of Tirhugh, parish of Kilbarron, stolen two heifer calves, the property of John Donagher, of Dooballea ;— Smart active appear- ance, broad forehead, high cheek bones, pleasing looking, mark of an old cut on the back of , head with no hair on it but covered by hair drawn across it, brown eyes, small sharp pointed nose, fresh complexion', long face, medium fmiK^, 5 feet" 8 inches high, about ' 27 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard jerry hat, heather- coloured pea jacket, brown tweed trowsers and vest; is a shoemaker. Ballyshannon, June 1G, 1883. ( 58233 c.— 5404.) Down. William John Murphy ( cattle- stealing), not ar- rested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th April, 1883. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of clothing, < fcc., found in possession of convict Mary Egan ( who has been arrested and returned for trial at the Commission Court, Dublin, on a charge of felony) and which are supposed to have been stolen, viz.:— A Paisley shawl, somewhat worn; a black cloth lady's jacket, loose make, trimmed round the neck and sleeves with black fringe ; a lady's skirt, half of it red calico, the lower half red silk; a lady's black Cashmere skirt, frilled at bottom ; a small calico chemise ; a lady's pair of high buttoned boots, with a small patch on the outside of each ; a pair of men's elastic side boots, new ; two pair of lady's stockings, one red, the other gray with blue stripe. This woman was returned for trial at the Commission on the 7tli instant, and the case adjourned to next Commission. DESCRIPTION of William Derham, native of Saggart, but no fixed residence, who stands charged with having, on the 10th May, 1883, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Saggart, violently assaulted and attempted to rob one Robert Connor, of Crooksling, on the public road at Slade:— Blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, sandy hair; wore a round hat, short tweed jacket, and moleskin trowsers; is a labourer. A Warrant is in the hands of the Constabulary at Brittas for arrest of the accused. Lucan, May 24, 1883. ( 57642 c.— 7043.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 15th May, 1883v absconded from rfe Rehoboth- place Reformatory' School, at Dublin:— Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, pale complexion, . fair hair, gray eyes, slightly turned up nose, round visage, heavy brows; small mark of cut above right eye on forehead; formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry, and his parents are dead. The school dress consists of cord trowsers, cord l sleeved vest, blucher boots nailed, and fastened by strap and buckle; had no jacket on him when he • left. This boy is very fond of the army, and may try to enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who • may capture him with £ 1. DESCRIPTION of William Griffiths, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the 10th June,. 1883, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Bally- sax, obtained £ 9 under false pretences, by presentment of an unsigned cheque :— Hazel eyes," regular nose, fresh complexion, smart active make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age; wore a jerry hat, dark brown frock coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a private in the 1st East Kent Regiment. Patrick Malley, described in Hue- and- Cry of 19th- instant, has surrendered, ai. d been bailed. Louth. The man, name unknown, supposed native of Drogheda ( cattle stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th March, 1883. Patrick Keely ( attempt to set fire to a house, and failing < o take his trial when bailed to do so), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1883. Mayo. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands suspected with having, on the night of the 12th, or morning of the 13th instant, in the barony of Gallen, parish, of Killasser, entered the house of the Reverend Canon Judge, P. P. of Killasser, by force, and stole a quantity of property :— Large black whiskers, full tender eyes, slender make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, supposed dark hair ; wore no coat, cord trowsers, and frieze vest with sleeves; supposed to be a cattle drover. Description of articles stolen :— A large faded gray frieze top coat, with bone buttons; a new black serge top coat, fine twill, cloth buttons; a black cloth trowsers; two black cloth vests; a pair of elastic side boots; a soft felt hat; a sugar bowl, with hands at side, a painted gold rim at top and bottom ; a white blanket, with a black and blue stripe at both ends; a yellow painted walking- stick ; all value for about £ 7. DESCRIPTION of James Little, native of Dollards- town, who stands charged with having, on the 11 th April, 1883, in the barony of Skreen, parish of Tara, stolen, £ 23, in notes and gold, from his employer, Richard Wilkinson, of Castleboy :— Gray or blue eyes, large nose, fresh complexion, full fat face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 19 years of age; wore a brown hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. DESCRIPTION of Anthony Hale, native of Bally- ogan, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd or 3rd April, 1883, in the barony of Tireragh, parish of Castleconnor, stolen a heifer ( since found), the property of John Timlin, of Corballa, in said parish:— Face swelled under jaws, black side whiskers turning gray, gray eyes, large thick nose, fresh complexion, full face, very stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 48 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a round soft hat, dark frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and gray tweed vest ; is a farmer. Easkey, May 27, 1883. ( 56787 c.— 6675) Bella Hamilton ( infanticide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th April, 1883. Waterford. DESCRIPTION of a watch, the property of Edmond Power, which was stolen from his house at Dungarvan, barony of Decies- without- Drum, and parish of Dungarvan, on the 28th of April, 1883: — A gold chronometer double- cased watch, small dent in front case, the word " chronometer" engraved on the back case ; cost £ 150, value now for about £ 50 ; makers, Barnshaw, London. There was a gold Albert chain and two silver chains, value for about £ 15, attached to the watch, which were also taken. Dungarvan, May 12, 1883. Westmeath. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 31st day of May, 1883, in the barony of Moyashel and Magheradernon, parish of Mullingar, stolen from the house of Mr. Cramer Roberts, Taitestown, several articles of silver plate ( see Hue- and- Cry of 5th instant), all of which have since been re- covered :— Down- looking and ill- looking, slightly stooped shoulders, stout make ; 5 feet 7 inches high, about 50 years of age; wore a soft hat, old faded tweed coat, and black troswers. The hat he is wear- ing is supposed to be stolen from Mr. Roberts. June 1st, 1883. ( 57675 c.— 7107.) The man, name and native place unknown ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th April, 1883. Wexford. DESCRIPTION of James Tapley, native of Ballingarry Upper, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 15tli or morning of 16th May, 1883, in the barony of Gorey, parish of Kilnahue, stolen a colt, the property of his father, Henry Tapley:— High shoulders, turns in his toes when walking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7^ inches high, about 24 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a servant boy. DESCRIPTION of Terrence M'Eneany, native of Knocknagarnamon, who, on the 17th of April, 1883, in tlie barony of Farney, parish of Enniskeen, left the house of James Plunkett, of Miskishmore, and has not since been heard of, and it is feared some harm has befallen him :— Stooped shoulders, gray- eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, broad face, slight make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 70 years of age, gray hair and whiskers; wore a jerry hat, old gray frieze coat, corduroy trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Michael Cahill ( mother's surname Shanahan), native of Foylenamon, who stands charged with having, on the 24th May, 1883, at Borrisoleigh, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Upper, parish of Glenkeen, seriously assaulted Laurence Ryan, by striking him on the head with a stone, from the effects of which he died on the 7th June, 1883 :— Shaves all his face except small whiskers under the ears ; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, broad fat face, stout make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a slouched hat, dark frieze coat, dark gray tweed trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Charles M'Dermott native of Strabane, who stands charged with having, on the 16th April, 1883, in the barony of Upper Strabane, parish of Upper Badoney, obtained a heifer by false pretences, and afterwards selling same in the fair ol Plumbridge, and absconding with the amount:— Three warts under right ear adjoining cheek bone, the result of evil, shuffling swaggering gait when walking ; large wild gray eyes, regular nose, pale yellow com- plexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 or 33 years of age, dark hair, shaves all his face; wore a milky white hat, brown coat, trowsers, and vest, greasy looking and shabby; is a low cattle dealer.
