WANTED, by Warrant for fraud, Henry George Hayes :— Age about 38 years, 5feet 7inches high, slender build, pale complexion, thin shaTp features and lips, dark brown hair, chin shaved, small whiskers, haggard or careworn appearance, and of gentlemanly address ; stated that he was a butter merchant from London commencing business in this city. Ho presented himself at the Consolidated Bank, Limited, King'- street; Manchester, on the 26th May last, and requested to be allowed to open an account, at the same time depositing £ 50 in cash, and two bank cheques, one for £ P6 12s. on Lloyd's Banking Company, Limited, Wolverhampton, and the other on Stamford, Spalding, and Boston Banking Company, Northampton, for £ 83 10s. 6d. The cheques are found on inquiry to be worthless. He also gave references in Manchester which were found to be false. He thereby obtained a cheque book on the Consolidated Bank, numbered 892,571 to 892,600, which he will no doubt use to commit other frauds. Police Officers aro requested to give immediate information to bankers, money changers, and others, and should any of the cheques be presented, to forward information without delay. The above reward of £ 10 will be given by the Directors of the bank for such information as will lead to the arrest of the said Henry George Hayes. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Manchester. Town Hall, Manchester, June 2, 1883. ( 5820S c 5358.) HOUSE BREAKING. Between the hours of 11.50 P. M., May 20th, and 11 A. M., May 27th, 1883, a pawn shop in the borough of Dudley was entered from an adjoining void house, and the following property stolen therefrom, viz.:— Five silver Geneva watches, Nos. 66, 99, 842, 18296, and 28355. Twenty- three old metal Verge watches, Nos. 16, 345, 445, 477, 549, 083, 820, 889, 2415, 2591, 3720, 4779, 4911, 6355, 6522, 8231, 8382, 9558, 12931, 17232, and three not numbered. One old silver Verge watch, not numbered, has a name on outside case. One pair of plain silver sleeve links. One suit of men's black worsted cord clothes, rather broad cord, bound with braid, new, size 3. One pair of course black cloth trowsers, fall fronts, lined with swansdown, size 5. One single- breasted vest, dark gray and white, coarse tweed, and five new silk neckerchiefs, plaid patterns, of various colours. Farther Particulars. Early in the morning following the above robbery, two men were seen to secrete a basket in an ash mount at Deepfields, which upon being examined was found to contain 57 of the watches and some other portions of the stolen property. . One of the men— stout, about 30 years of age, • ft feet 8 or 9 inches in height, sandy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in soft billycock hat, short black jacket, and dark trowsers; had the appearance of a labourer. The other man not so stout as the above, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches in height, dark moustache; dressed in a short dark coat and hard • square topped hat. v Numbers of Watches still Unrecovered. STOLEN, from a dwelling- house in this borough, between the 23rd and 26th instants, one diamond ring, set in plain gold setting, and oblong shape; one plain gold ring, with white stone; one gold watch key, with a seal set on a swivel in the handle, with a green and spotted stone; two gold seals ; two silver pencil cases ; one Queen Anne silver teapot; one wine strainer ; one punch ladle ; one fish slice ; one dozen each of large silver forks and spoons, fiddle pattern, all marked with tho letter " B" in Old English on the handles; also a gent's dark mixture coat, with all white spots running through, dark bone buttons with a light spot on them, one pocket inside left breast, and two in laps behind. STOLEN, from a dwelling- house in this borough, between the 2nd and 27th instants, a white alabaster framed mantle- piece clock, about 18 inches high, standing on a black wood frame, about 14 inches long, and an oblong glass shade. ABSCONDED, about 3 r. ir. on Tuesday, the 15th inst., stealing £ 1.300, the moneys of his employers, merchants, in this city, Semmy J. Blumlein :— A clerk; he is about 19 years of age, but looks much older, 5 feet 7£ or 8 inches high, proportionately built, black hair, dark moustache, no beard, oval features, sallow complexion, walks with a swinging gait; wore when last seen a dark cloth cutaway coat, dark trowsers, and black billycock hat. He is a German, and belongs to Frankfort- on- the- Maine, but speaks French and English, and has been in America. The money consisted of £ 400 in gold ; one £ 500 Bank of England note, dated Liverpool, 28th March, 1881, No. 58,435 ; and eight £ 50 Bank of England notes, dated Liverpool, 24th March, 1881, Nos. 37,258 to 37,265 inclusive. He will endeavour to go abroad. Please cause every possible inquiry to be made at hotels, shipping offices, on board of outward- bound vessels, and all other likely places, and if found arrest, or if traced telegraph to GEORGE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. FAILED to report his change of residence, licence holder, G 408, Henry Jackson, alias Robert Nally, a groom, native of Dublin, 29 years of age, 5 feet 7f inches high, stout build, brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, round features, scar on right elbow joint, flat- footed, fifth toe of each foot overlaps fourth, convicted at Liverpool Sessions, Nth April, 1880, of being in possession of counterfeit coin,. and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; released from Her Majesty's Convict Prison, Portsmouth, 15th March, 1883, on licence. FORGERY OF BANK NOTES. THE person after described is wanted here for having, on 25th inst., in different shops in tho eastern district of the city, uttered several forged £ 1 notes of the Royal Bank of Scotland :— A man, from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, bare face, which is red and blotched, very small nose, and stout made; dressed in a black shabby frock coat bound with very broad black braid, and black satin hat Had a dissipated and broken- down appearance, and spoke with a Scotch accent. The forged notes are all numbered MJgJ, and dated 1st July, 1882, and have the words " Promise to pay to James Wright or the Bearer " engraved on the body of them, whereas the genuine Royal Bank Notes presently in circulation have only- the words " Promise to pay on demand to the Bearer," and the name " James Wright" omitted. Bankers, shopkeepers, police officers, and others are requested to be on the alert, and should any cluo or information be obtained, to communicate at once with the subscriber, or local police, at the nearest police station. WANTED here on a Sheriff's Wan- ant, charged with the embezzlement of £ 50, the property of A. Jollie, Junior, and Co., Curriers and Leather Merchants, at 51, Great Hamilton- street, in whose employment he was as a traveller, Harry M. Brown— About 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair and complexion, very slight dark moustache, no beard or whiskers; dressed in a dark corded jacket and vest, light tweed trowsers, and felt hat, he may be carrying a Newmarket coat; he resided at 122, North Frederick- street. Accused absconded on 3rd instant, taking the 2 30 P. M. train on same date for London, with the intention of going to Africa. Police Officers are requested to make the necessary search and inquiry for accused at shipping offices, hotels, & c., and should he be arrested or traced communicate with A. M'CALL, Chief Constable. Glasgow, May 11, 1883. ' CITY OF GLASGOW POLICE. THEFT OF £ 135. WANTED here, on a Sheriffs Warrant, charged with the theft of £ 135 which he received yesterday, 10th inst., within the office of his employers, Messrs. Cowan and Douglas, Brass Founders, at 11 and 13, Hydepark- street, for the purpose of banking, but with which he absconded, Samuel C. Birchwood:— A clerk, about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair which is very curly, fair moustache, very slight sandy whiskers and beard, thin face, fresh complexion, full eyes and pleasant- looking, dressed in a black corded walking coat with pockets behind, and vest of same material, supposed to be wearing grayish trowsers and felt hat. Accused has got the money in his possession, and will probably leave the country. Police Officers are requested to have the necessary search made for accused at hotels, shipping offices, and likely plaices, and should he be arrested of traced, communicate with A. M'CALL, Chief Constable. Glasgow, May 11, 1883. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Ellen Murray, B 27, convicted in Athlone, county Westmeath, at Quarter Sessions, on 9th January, 1880, for larceny and former conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 40 years of age on conviction, is a dealer, born in Roscommon, resided before conviction in Athlone, her friends reside at same place; fair hair, blue eyes, light eyebrows, short and thick nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, broad visage, stout make, 5 feet 2 inches high. This woman was discharged from Mountjoy Prison on licence, 9th May, 1883, and went to Longford. She left Longford the 10th May, 1883, and stated she was going to Carrigallen, but she has ilot reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts are unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 26454 m.— 48813.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on - tho 7th May, 1883, absconded from the Rehoboth- place Reformatory School at Dublin :— William Williams, No. 203, about 14 years of age, 4 feet 2 inches high, stout make, walks badly, very fresh complexion, very fair hair, gray eyes, small nose, round visage, small mole on left side of forehead, tattoos of Indian ink on one of his arms, formerly belonged to Knockadaragh, county Limerick, where his parents reside. The school dress consists of bad old gray frieze jacket, light cord trowsers, cord vest, nailed boots fastened by straps and buckles, old black jerry cap, new blay calico shirt well stamped, and blay cotton socks. This boy was on Burgh- quay on Tuesday morning, 8th instant; he changed his jacket and hat; knows nothing of the city, and must therefore wander about and beg for his living till arrested. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with XI. DESCRIPTION of Bernard M'Parland ( mother's surname M'Connell), native of Ballard, who stands charged with having, on the night of 8th or morning of 9th May, 1883, in the barony of Upper Orier, parish of Forkhill, stolen three sheep and seven lambs, the property of Bernard Devlin, of Carrickna- galliagh, and sold them at the fair of Shercock, county Cavan, where they have been found:— Gray eyes, cocked nose, dark complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son, may work as a labourer. newry, May 15, 1883. ( 581- 17 c.— 5236.) age, fair or reddish hair; wore either a cap or low hat, black cloth coat, corduroy trowsers, and moleskin or black- vest; is a labourer. Ballyjamesduff, May 28, 1883. DESCRIPTION of the following articles, which were stolen out of the dwelling- house of Patrick Hynes, of Noughaville, barony of Burren, parish of Nougha- ville, on the morning of the 3rd of May, 1883, viz.:— A black cashmere dress ; a black Russell cord dress ; a red crochet worked worsted pettycoat; a pair of women's laced boots, small piece of leather on both heels, mended on soles with gutta percha ; a small box containing one set of bog oak earrings and brooch ( shamrock pattern); a'set of silver ear- rings and brooch ( fern pattern); a necklet and bracelet of white shells; all value for about £ 2 sterling. DESCRIPTION of a heifer, the property of Patrick i M'Dermott, which was stolen from the byre of John , Quinn, in the townland of Loughveen, on the night of 6th or moming of 7tli instant:— Red sides, white back and forehead, raised horns turned inwards, and marked with the letters p M. D. supposed on right horn, 3 years old, in good condition ; value for £ 9. Dungloe, June 13, 1883. ( 58225 c.— 5388.) Down. William John Murphy ( cattle- stealing), not ar- rested ; Hue- and- Cry, 10th April, 1883. Dublin. DESCRIPTION of clothing, & c., found in possession of convict Mary Egan ( who has been arrested and returned for trial at the Commission Court, Dublin, on a charge of felony) and which are supposed to have been stolen, viz.:— A Paisley shawl, somewhat worn; a black cloth lady's jacket, loose make, trimmed round the neck and sleeves with black fringe; a lady's skirt, half of it red calico, the lower half red silk; a lady's black Cashmere skirt, frilled at bottom ; a small calico chemise; a lady's pair of high buttoned boots, with a small patch on the outside of each ; a pair of men's elastic side boots, new ; two pair of lady's stockings, one red, the other gray with blue stripe. This woman was returned foi- trial at the Commission on the 7th instant, and the case adjourned to next Commission. The above articles are in possession of the Constable at Cabinteely, and can be seen for identification at any time. ( See Hue- and- Cry, 5th June, 1883.) Dundrum, June 8, 1883. ( 57705 c.— 7153.) DESCRIPTION of William Derham, native of Saggart, but no fixed residence, who stands charged with having, on the 19th May, 1883, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Saggart, violently assaulted and attempted to rob one Robert Connor, of Crooksling, on the public road at Slade:— Blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, round face, very stout- make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, sandy hair; wore a round hat, short tweed jacket, and moleskin trowsers ; is a labourer. A Warrant is in the hands of the Constabulary at Brittas for arrest of the accused. Arthur Hagan ( assault endangering life), not arrested; hue- and- Ci'y, 6th April, 1883. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Maguire ( mother's sur- name Smith), native of Carran, who stands charged with having, on the 26th day of May, 1883, in the barony of Upper Loughtee, parish of Denn, seriously assaulted Anne Reilly, at Tullytrean, thereby en- dangering her life: — May have a mark on forehead where he was struck with a key; gray eyes, somewhat inflamed looking, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 40 years of Lucan, May 24, 1883. ( 57642 c.— 7043.) Mary M'Cabe ( robbery of money), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6tli April, " l 88 3. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 15th May, 1883, absconded from the Rehoboth- place Reformatory School, at Dublin:— Thomas Johnston, No. 204, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout make, pale complexion, fair hair, gray eyes, slightly turned up nose, round visage, heavy brows; small mark of cut above right eye on forehead ; formerly belonged to Tralee, county Kerry, and his parents are dead. The school dress consists of cord trowsers cord sleeved vest, blucher boots nailed, and fastened by strap and buckle; had no jacket on him when he left. This boy is very fond of the army, and may try to enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with XI. John Fitzpatrick, who stands charged with having, on the 5th Juno, 1883, in the barony of Connell, parish of Kilmeague, stolen a horse and cart and the sum of £ 5 from his master, has been arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 12th June, 1883. Thomas Sex ( failing to appear when on bail), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27tli March, 1883. Myles Farrell ( assault), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd March, 1883. Mathew Smith ( attempt to commit a rape), hot arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1883. William Tegan ( attempt to commit a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1883. The man, name and native place unknown,"' described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th March, 1883, ( intimidation), not arrested. Kilkenny. Thomas Watson ( robbery of an ass, cart, and harness), not arrested ; hue- and- Cry, 3rd April, 1883. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of Michael Cregan, native of Ennis- cousli, near Rathkeale, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 31st Blay, 1883, in the barony of Lower Connello, parish of Croagli, stolen two yearling bullocks and three yearling heifers, the property of his mother, Mary Cregan, of Adare:— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high,- about 30 years of age; dark hair turning gray ; wore a low hard hat, dark tweed coat, gray trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer. ( 59192 c.— 9425.) Longford. DESCRIPTION of a skeleton found in the lake in the mud, on the banks of the River Camlin, at Clon- fin, parish and barony of Granard, district of Granard, on the 4th June, 1883 The skeleton of a man apparently about 45 or 50 years of age, height about 5 feet 5 inches. No marks of violence on any part of the bones. It appears to have been in the water about four years. On the skeleton were found a black cloth vest, open breasted and machine made, nicely stitclicd, beneath this another vest of figured silk. Under the body was found a common clay pipe, maker's name Owen M'Cann, Carrick- on- Shannon. Granard, June 6, 1883. ( 57698 c.— 7144.) Louth. James Ruddy ( assault endangering life), not ar- rested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th April, 1883. Edward Doocy and John M'Intyre ( serious assault), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 20tli March, 1883. Michael M'Namara ( suspected of being one of an armed partv who committed a murder), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 2nd March, 1883. DESCRIPTION of Fanny Donohoe, native of Ross, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd May, 1883, the barony of Fore, parish of Killeagh, stolen cow, the property of her brother, James Somerville, of Ross:— Stoppage in speech, brown eyes, long Roman nose, fresh complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a brown felt hat, turned up in front, trimmed with red and brawn satin, blue flowers in one side; black dress, trimmed with red stuff; a white cloth jacket, and dark gray Ulster with two rows of buttons in front; or may wear a navy blue dress and black shawl. DESCRIPTION of James Little, native of Dollards- town, who stands charged with having, on the 11 th April, 18S3, in the barony of Skreen, parish tof Tara, stolen, £ 23, in notes and gold, from his employer, Richard Wilkinson, of Castleboy:— Gray or blue eyes, large nose, fresh complexion, full fat face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 19 years of age; wore a brown hat, dalk tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. DESCRIPTION of Terrence M'Eneany, native of Knocknagarnamon, who, on the 17th of April, 1883, in the barony of Farney, parish of Enniskeen, left the house of James Plunkett, of Miskishmore, and lias not since been heard- of, and it is feared some harm has befallen ' him Stooped shoulders, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, broad face, slight make, 5 feet M inches high, about 70 years of age, gray hair and whiskers; wore a jerry hat, old gray frieze coat, corduroy trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Michael Cahill ( mother's surname Shanahan), native of Foylenamon, who stands charged with having, on the ,21th May, 1883, at Borrisoleigh, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Upper, parish of Glenkeen, seriously assaulted Laurence Ryan, by striking him on the head with a stone, from the effects of which he died on the 7th June, 1883 :— Shaves all his face except small whiskers under the ears ; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, broad fat face, stout make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a slouched hat, dark frieze coat, dark gray tweed trowsers, and gray tweed vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Charles M'Dermott native of Strabane, who stands charged with having, on the 16th April. 1883, in the barony of Upper Strabane, parish of Upper Badoney, obtained a heifer by false pretences, and afterwards selling same in the fair ol Plumbridge, and absconding with the amount :— Three warts under right ear adjoining cheek bone, the result of evil, shuffling swaggering gait when walking ; large wild gray eyes, regular nose, pale yellow com- plexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 or 33 years of age, dark hair, shaves all his face ; wore a milky white hat. brown coat, trowsers, and vest, greasy looking and shabby ; is a low cattle dealer. DESCRIPTION a watch, the property of Edmond Power, which was stolen from his house at Dungarvan, bareny of Decies- without- Drum, and parish of Dungarvan, on the 28th of April, 1883 : — A gold chronometer double- cased watch, small dent in front case, the word il chronometer " engraved on e back case ; cost £ 150, value now I the for about £ 50 makers, Barnshaw, London. There was a gold Albert chain and two silver chains, value for about £ 15, attached to the watch, which were also taken. Dungarvan, May 12, 1883. —- Westmeath. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native placc unknown, who stands charged wilh having, on the 31st day of May, 1883, in the barony of Moyashel and Magheradernon, parish . of Mullingar, stolen from the house of Mr. Cramer Roberts, Taitestown, several articles of silver plate ( see Hue- and- Cry of 5th instant), all of which have since been re- covered :— Down- looking and ill- looking, slightly stooped shoulders, stout make ; 5 feet 7 inches high, about 50 years of age; wore a soft hat, old faded tweed coat, and black troswers. The hat he is wear- ing is supposed to be stolen from Mr. Roberts. ( 57675 c.— 7107.) The man, name and native place ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1883. unknown 6 th April, Wexford. ' DESCRIPTION of James Tapley, native of Ballingarry Upper, who stands charged with having, on the night of the I5tli or morning of 16th May, 1883, in the barony of Gorey, parish of Kilnahue, stolen a colt, the property of his father, Henry Tapley:— High shoulders, turns in his toes when walking, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7£ inches high, about 24 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a servant boy. The colt has been recovered. Tapley was last seen near Wicklow, and will probably fry to escape to Liverpool. Gorey, May 19, 1883. ( 57621 c.— 7009.) DESCRIPTION of William Kelly, native of Red Bog, who stands charged with having, on the 30th April, 1883, in the barony of Shelmalier West, parish of Whitechurch Glynn, stolen a sheep, the property of Michael Kehoe, off the lands of Lambstown Great, and sold it at the fair of Taghmon, on 2nd May, 1883, after which he abscsnded :— Slovenly slouching gait, wears short side whiskers, rest of face shaved, dark eyes, rather hooked nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft black hat. gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farm servant.
