MOtlC*.— lt ia requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offender*, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of ( be person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Polioe Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. A » no charge u made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mnst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ol Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. • Advertisements offering rewards must state olearly:—( 1) The " amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. PRISON and PC LICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary, INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in Borough Road, Middlesbrough, about 8 o'clock on 4th instant, the Body of a newly- born female Child, which was wrapped in a black alpaca or black stuff dress, to fit a child about 5 or 6 years of age, trimmed round bottom • with two flounces about 2 inches deep, and black velvet sleeves ( very old, ragged, and dirty), and a large white pocket handkerchief. A piece of yellow wool or worsted was twisted round the neck of the child ; and the surgeon, who has made a post- mortem examination, is of opinion that death resulted from atiangulation. Information to Mr. E. J. SaggerBon, Chief Constable, MIDDLESBROUGH.— Bow- street, June 6. On 12th ultimo, a jbrown paper parcel was found in a third- class railway carriage at Bedlington Station, Northum- berland, by the train arriving there at 6 55 p. m. from New- castle, The parcel was addressed to ' Mr. Gibson, The Cemetery, Amble, Acklington.' It contained the Dead Body of a full- gro& n female Child. The Child had been washed and attended to after birth, but not by a medical person. It had lived two or three days after birth, and had, when found, been dead two or three days. Its death had been wilfully caused by suffocation, and had marks of violence on its person. An adjourned inquest was held on 30th ultimo, when the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some per- son or persons unknown.' A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom, who shall give such information and evidence as shall iead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to Major- General Allgood, C. B., Chief Constable, HEXHAM, or to Mr. Supt. Rutherford, ALNWICK.— low- street, June 6. FORGERY. Wanted for having, on 25th ultimo, in Glasgow, uttered several forged £ 1 Notes of the Royal Bank of Scotland :— a man, from 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, bare face, which is red and blotched, very small nose, and stoutly made ; dressed in a black shabby frock coat, bound with very broad black braid, and black satin hat. Had a dissipated and broken- down appearance, and spoke with a Scotch accent. The forged Notes are all numbered ' M 671 695 ', aDd dated ' lst July, 1882,' and have the words ' Promise to pay to James Wright or the Bearer,' engraved on the body of them, whereas the genuine Royal Bank Notes at present in circulation have only the words ' Promise to pay on demarsd to the Bearer,' and the name ' James Wright' omitted. Bankers, shopkeepers, police officers, and others, are requested to be on the alert, and should any clue or information be obtained, to communicate at once with the Subscriber, or Local Police, at the nearest Police Station. Absconded, 26th ultimo, charged on a warrant with Forgery, and stealing £ 200 in Gold:— JAMES KER, late of 31, Dalberg Road, Brixton, Secretary of the Gold Coast Mining Company, 32, Poultry, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale face, reddish - brown hair, small side whiskers, slight moustache, and well built. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, OLD JEWRY, E. C.— Bow- street, June 1. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Supposed stolen from the person at Derby, on 4th inst. : — a silver patent lever Watch, No. 75572, white dial, black figures, steel hands, nearly new. Information to W, A. Stolen from the person at Llangadock Fair on 31st ult.:— a consular lever gold Watch, maker's name ' Dale,' Llanelly, No. 22865, value £ 20. Information to D. C. C. Stolen from the person at the Eton Regatta, on 4th inst.: — a gold lever Watch, white face, No. 8680, maker's name ' Merrick, Windsor.' Also a large silver English lever Watch, with silver dial and gold letters, maker's name * Holt,' engraved on back of case ' J. Greenwood, Carbineers.' Information to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Police Station, SLOUGH. Bucks.— Bow- street, June 6. Charged on a warrant ( with two others), who stand com- mitted for trial at next Quarter Sessions with breaking into a shop and stealing 4 pairs of men's Boots, 1 pair ditto Shoes, and a meerschaum Pipe and Case :- ROBERT BITHELL, alias ' WASP' BITHELL, a native of Swan- street, Flint, a cooper, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, pimples or blotches on his face, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and seal near tip of nose; dressed in black billycock hat, long brown coat buttoned up to thje chin, and may be wearing a pair of the stolen boots ; for some time he has been working at his trade at the chemical, cement, aud other works in Lan- cashire and Cheshire, and was at Widuess last week. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. 1 Stolen during the night of 3rd instant, from a stable at Sonning :— a bay Cob, 15 hands 2. inches high, 18 years old, wliite near fore fetlock, white spot on forehead, holds head on one side; also a Saddle, and a brown leather snaffie Bridle. By a man about 27 years of age, rather dark complexion, dark moustache, wore gaiters. Was seen riding the horse through Knowl Hill, about 3 a. m. on 4th instant. Further information respecting the red Heifer advertised in Police Gazette of 23rd ultimo :— She is now described as of red body with mottled face, in good condition, and in milk. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by Mr. Edwd. Jas. Keeling, of Coven Park Farm, Brewood, Secretary and Treasurer to the Brewood Association for the prosecution of felcns. On the apprehension and conviction if stolen, and if strayed all reasonable expenses will be paid. Found at Pershore, on 24th ultimo, supposed stolen :— a red and white coloured half bred Herefordshire Heifer, is in milk. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen out of a field at Tynycoed, Berriew, on the night of 26th ultimo :— a very dark brown 2- year old mare Pony, about 14 hands high, long tail, had not been shod, and has a small bump on inside knee on the near fore leg. Stolen from a field at Ward End, early on 28th inst.:— a bright bay Mare, 14 hands 2 inches high, 6 years old, dark points, a little hair rubbed off the inside of both knees. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Wanted at Derby, charged on a warrant with stealing, on lst instant, £ 2, the Monies of the Trustees of the Indepen- dent Order of Reckabites :— SIMEON MEADS, from 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionate build, large nose, pale complexion, very round shouldered, large light bushy whiskers and moustache, inclined sandy, turns his toes out when walking, is a labourer or engineman, has been in America, and was formerly a sailor. Information to W. A. Delacombe, Lt.- Col., Chief Constable, Town Hall, DERBY.— Bow- street, June 8. Description of ANN HUNT, wanted for stealing Wear- ing Apparel, Bedding, & c. ( recovered), where she had been as housekeeper for ten days, aud left on 23rd ultimo :— she is a native of Codnor, or Ripley in Derby, and is about 56 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender build, sallow com- plexion, dark short hair, which she usually wears in a worsted net; dressed in a black crape bonnet, old black faded shawl, black dress, and laced boots ; ne is very fond of drink, smokes a short clay pipe, and is genarally tramping about the country. Information to Mr. Supt. Carline, County Police Office, CHESTERFIELD, who holds a warrant for her arrest.— Bow- street, June 8. Wanted for stealing a pair of tweed Trousers ( new), man's siza ; a tweed Vest ( much worn); a silver consolar Geneva Watch, No. 24604, with long silver Chain attached ; and about 16s. in Silver and Copper Money :— a man, about 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, and moustache ; has a scar near right ear, and birth mark ( potatoe) on left arm ; he is dressed in a dark diagonal cloth coat and trousers to match, low shoes ( much worn), and is a tailor. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, PERSHORE, or to Sergeant Ganderton, EVESHAM, Worcester- shire.— Bow- street, June 8. Stolen at 12 a. m. 2nd instant:— a silver lever Watch, No. 42267, silver dial, and gold figures ; had attached a long silver Gua- d, twisted pattern, and medium thickness. By a striker, who left Port Clarence Railway Station at 12- 30 p. m. same day for the North, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, very slender build, brown hair, fresh complexion, thin face, no whiskers or moustache, and tattoo marks near one thumb; dressed iu old dark mixture tweed shooting coat, brown corduroy trousers, blue and white check scarf, fastened in a sailor's knot, black hard felt hat, and very old laced boots, the left one has a patch on outside of upper, also wearing a blue cotton jacket underneath his coat. Was accompanied by a young man, had the appearance of a sailor, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, slender build, fair complexion, slight moustache, may have slight whiskers, and wears ear- rings; dressed in a black cloth coat, blue Guernsey, black or light trousers, and hook- down silk or alpaca cap, similar to those worn by engineers. Information, to Mr. E. J. Saggeraon, Chief Constable, MIDDLESBROUGH,— Bow- street, June 6. Stolen from a bed- room at the Victoria Arms, Beccles, on 2nd instant :— an old silver Watch, with the letters ' S. S.' on the face, and ' E. Warren' scratched on the back of the inside case ; a silver Albert Guard, with gold Key attached, the key has a black stone in the end, with a white line across the centre; a gold keeper Ring, set with six pearls, one wanting, light blue stone in the centre ; a silver horse- shoe scarf Pin, with the words ' Good luck' round the face of the shoe; a dark Neck- tie, speckled with red, blue, and yellow. By a tramping carpenter, who lodged at the above- mentioned house during last week, and left early on Saturday morning, about 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, a few whiskers and moustache, slight scar over left eye; dressed in brown cloth coat, bound with black braid, black and white scarf, light soft hat. Information to Inspector Bard well, BECCLES.— Bow- street, June 6. Absconded on 26th ultimo, from Castle Northwich, charged on warrant with embezzlement : — PERCY MATHER, 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes, slender build, rather long neck ; walks very erect and quick, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressed sometimes in a broad ribbed velveteen suit, other times in light tweed trousers and vest, dark coat, and hard felt hat. He was organist at Hartford Church. Information to Mr. Supt. Hindley, MIDDLEWICH ; or to Inspector Millington, NORTHWICH, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 6. Absconded from Daventry, charged with stealing a Turkey and a Fowl, at Ashby, St. Ledgers ( recovered) :— SAMUEL SMITH, gipsy, hawkes with door mats & c., and collects rags 2 POLICE GAZETTE June 8 & c., about 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair and eyes, small and sore, called sore eyed Saminy ; he is usually dressed in tweed coat, cord troustrs, and hard billy hat, with flat top ; he is well known at Oxford, Banbury, and Lymington, Gloucestershiie, and many other prices in the Midland Counties. Information to Mr. Supt fflijah " Harwell, County Police Station, DAVENTRY, North- amptonshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 6. Charged with embezzlement THOMAS GRIERSON, a native of Dumfries, about 25 or 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, dark moustache, small whiskers, no beard, broad shoulders, and slightly bow legged ; he left Chester a fortnight ago, where he had been employed as a brewer's traveller. Was convicted of stealing ducks at'Bristol in 1878, and sentenced to 6 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision. Information to Mr. Supt. Pierce, MARY- BOROUGH, or to Inspector Magga, PEWSEY, Wilts, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 4. Description of WM. BENNETT* charged on ft warrant with embezzlement :— he is about 38 years of age, 5 ft. 4 ius. high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, thin pale face, rather high cheek bones, had a black moustache which m Ij now be shaved off. He has been employed as a servant at the Gentlemen's Club in the City. Information to the Head Constable, City Police Office, WORCESTER — Bow- street, June 1. Description of SAMUEL CLARKE, charged with embezzling X59, at Birmingham :— he is 22 years of age, 5 fs.; 6 ins. high, thin build, brown hair and eyes, clean shaven, two large anchors in Indian ink on left wrist, and very thick lips ; dressed in brown coat and vest, moleskin trousers, white muffler, and black bowler hat. Is a moulder. Information to J. Farndale, Chief Constable, BIRMINGHAM.— Bow street, June 1. Stolen from Theakston Grange, on 26th ultimo, between 1 and 5 pm. :— a Melodian, 12J inches by inches, 10 keys on one side, and 2 bass keys and bell on the other, 2 stops on one end [ made of common wood, with black edge, centre imitation losewood, bound at corners with brass, maker's name on plate, ' Campbell's Improved Melodian, sold only at 103, Trongate, Glasgow,' trade mark— a fox head. Supposed by two men : one is about 34 years age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache over face of about a month's growth ; dressed in dark coat and vest, cord or plaid trousers, flat top cap with peak ; the other is abaut 40 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, thin fea- tures, and ginger whiskers; dressed in light jacket and trousers, dirty guernsey, light soft felt hat. Stated they were sailors, and making for Liverpool. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Walmsley, North Riding Constabu- lary, NORTHALLERTON, or to Inspector Ellerby, WATH, Ripon. — Bow- street, June 1. Wanted for stealing a suit of Clothes, and some stone- mason's Tools, at Warwick, on 21st instant ( all recovered) :— SAMUEL SHEPPERD, a discharged soldier, 28 years of age, 6 feet high, fail complexion, light brown hair whiskers and moustashe, shaves on chin, moustache curled at each end, deep scar on forehead, ship tattooed on one arm, and two sailors on the other; dressed in dark round monkey jacket, light • waistcoat, dark brown trousers, black hard bowler hat, and low shoes, is a native of Croughton, near Brackley, North- amptonshire. Warrant issued. Information to D. C. C. Moth, County Constabulary, KENILWORTH.— Bow St., May 30, Charged with stealing a fpair of Wellington Boots ( recovered), at Eastbourne, Sussex, on 21st instant: — FRE- DERICK HOLLMAN, about 18 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, has very sore eyes, light brown hair, medium figure, window blind maker; dressed in black hard felt hat, and dark cloth suit, or may be wearing a brown cloth jacket with red and black spots, has pockets on hips, and one ditto outside left breast with flaps, and a vest and trousers of same material, and a white cotton necker- chief, which he is suspected of stealing, and old lace- up boots. Information to Mr. Supl. Newnham, East Sussex Constabu- lary, EASTBOURNE, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, May 30. Charged at Boston, with stealing on 28th instant:— a paisley Shawl, partly worn ; a black silk dress Skirt, partly worn ; a blue flannel Petticoat; a blue velveteen dress Top ; a gold keeper Ring; seven Sovereigns; and four Half Sovereigns :— a woman, about 40 years of age, 4 feet 10 or 11 inehes high, lightish complexion and hair, high cheek bones, is very stout, and generally wears short sleeves ; dressed in black silk jacket, with fur round it, and lined with black alpaca, and quilted, drab or slate- coloured dress, white straw hat, with white feather, and supposed cream- coloured lace ; may be wearing soma of the stolen articles, as she left some old ones behind, was seen wearing the ring along with a new gold wedding ring; she is addicted to drink, frequents low public and beer- houses, and is supposed to be accompanied by a labourer or navvy, about 47 years of age, stout, fair complexion, light hair, and clean shaved ; dressed in pilot cloth clothes, round black hat, and carried a small bundle in a red handkerchief. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, BOSTON, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, May 30. Absconded from High Wycombe, on 22nd instant, charged with stealing a quantity of chimney sweep's working Implements ( most of which are recovered), a tramping Sweep, about 30 years of age, 5 feet high, proportionate build, blue eyes, brown hair, and light brown whiskers. Information to Mr. Supt. Collins, HIGH WYCOMBE.— Bow- street, May 30. on left arm and has lost big toe of left foot. Information to Mr. Supt. Sharpe, Police Station, WIRKSWORTH, Derby, who holds warrant for apprehension.— Bry> n- street, May 30. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of JOHN EVANS, a miller, charged on a warrant with putting lime in a brook, at Shifnal, Salop, on the 25th ultimo, with intent to poison fish :— he is about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark hair and complexion, very small ( if any) whiskers, shaves nearly all ttp the side of the face, native of Newtown, Montgomeryshire, speaks with a Welsh accent, is a professional bicycle rider, sometimes dressed in, grey, admetrimes black ; absconded from here on the 28t ultimo, had his bopc . booked to Birmingham, ta^ tkenwBtt of J.
