Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or » tolon property, may bear the Slasimtnre of the person requiring or tending the same, and all application* in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, Mid the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion, AB no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not bo made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for iniertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be Bigned or accompanied by a letter, signed by toe persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward, for the return of the property, without khe apprehension of the offender. It Is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, Buch Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." About 9 p. m. on 7th instant, three Hay Stacks, Btauding together, in a field near Cotton, parish of Stoke- upon- Trent, Salop, were discovered on fire, and consumed ; supposed an incendiary fire. ROURKE ( late of 5, Wood Street Square, City, aud 24, Highbury Grange, N.), 73 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches higb, stoutish build, white hair, very little or no whiskers, no beard, or moustache, and stoops when walking; well dressed. Stolen from the person at BostoD, on 12th instant :— a gold horseshoe breast Pin head, set with diamonds ; it was broken off the pin. Stolen from the person at Edenbridge Steeple Chases, on 4th instant:— a silver lever Watch, has back hands, aud rather peculiar make; maker's came— Jump, Bond Street, London. Number unknown. Stolen by means of burglary, on 13th instant, at Kid- lington:— a black double- breasted frock Coat, with two pockets behind; a blue knotted ctoth Overcoat, two side pockets, and one inside left breast do. ; 7J yards of grey striped Melton Cloth ; 1 yard of Melton Lining ; 1 yard of slate Selesia do. ; a pair of grey cloth Trousers, large size, worn at bottoms ; and a small silver bladed shut Kuife, with plain handle. Information to Inspector Thomas iiawtin, WOODSTOCK, Oxon.— Bow- street, Mail 16. Stolen by means of office breaking, during the night of 12th instant, at Tansey Grean, Pensnett:— one electrum parallel Ruler, about 14 inches lorg, from 2 to 2J inches broad, it has two small rollers, one about 2 inches from each end, it is level edged, and marked with a scale on one side only ; one ivory Pricker, with needle point about the size of an ordinary penholder ; 4s. in Silver, and 8d. in Copper. The Ruler and Pricker, are such as are used by surveyor and mining engineers. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Police Office, BRIERLEY HILL, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, May 16. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of 13th instant, from a field at Leacroft, near Cannock : — a wether Lamb, about 50 lb. weight, black legs and face, and tail cut. Boatmen are suspected. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, BROWNHILLS, Walsall, or to Sergeant Cockerell, CANNOCK, near Stafford.— Bow- street, May 18. Absconded, charged with stealing 2 Horses at Hammer- smith, on 19th ultimo :— THOS. LOADER, 40 years of age, feet 6 inches high, stout build, sallow complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair ( bald top of head) whiskers, and mous- tache, large teeth, s'ightly iu- kneed, and walks badly ; has the appearance of a respectable horse- dealer; formerly in business as a dairyman at Motticaham, Kent, and will pro- bably be found eug » ged in a similar business, and native of Sculthorpe, Norfolk. Accompanied by a woman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, sallow com- plexion, dark hair and eyes, smart appearar- ce, good address, and is addicted to drink. Warraut issued. Found at Spirkhill, on 10th instant, supposed stolen :— a dapple grey mare Pony, aged, LOJT hands high, very short tail, collar wound on near shoulder. Information to Mr. Supt. Yard ley, ACOCES GREEN, near Birmingham. — Bow- street, May 18. Stolen from the ' Vine Inn,' Chertsey, on 14th instant:— a bay Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, apparently in foal; a set of cart Harness, stuffed collar with red lining ; and a spring Cart, pained browD, rear repaired with iron, the pro- perty of Henry Jones, Feltham. Supposed by a man about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, and clean shaved ; dressed in very light corH trousers, black spot on one leg, red necktie, and soft black felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, CHERTSEY.— Bow- st., May 16. Stolen during the night of 12th instant, from a stable at Swanscombe Kent:— a dark blue roan cart Mare, 7 years old. about 15 hands high, white star on forehead, off hind leg white about half way up to hock, and slightly swollen, near hind fetlock white, forelegs, mane and tail nearly black, recently shod, and in good condition : also a heavy Bridle, brass plate, marked ' C' on each blinker, small chain and hemp lead attached, a leather Collar, check lining, and a plough Harness with wooden hame- t, leather crupper, and belly- girth. Stolen during the last three weeks, at Old House Hill, Llandinam:— 10 Welsh wether Sheep, yearlings, some of them mottled faces, marked with pitch ' J. D.' OQ near side, raddled a square on loins and on back part of head, ear marked, left ear, swallow fork in point, and a slit underneath right ear, a splice cut off lengthways of the ear under and on the top. Wanted, charged with stealing a Pony and Trap, at Quinton, near Halesowen, on the night of 4th instant :— a man, name unknown, about 19 years of age, about 5 ft. 6 ins. bigti, has a very slight moustache ; dressed in a dirty jacket, and moleskin trousers, aud had t hn appearance of a tramp. The Pony aud Trap were found in Coventry, about four hours after being stolen, apparently abandoned by the thief. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Information to Frederick Dutton, HEAD Constable, NEWCASTLE- UNDER- LYME — Bow- st., May 18 Wanted at Chester, charged with stealing, on 15th inst., 8 Medals from the tailor's shop of the Cheshire Regiment Private SUMMERFIELD, of the ' South Wales Borderers' ( late 24th), 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh com plexion, cut mark on right cheek, and wearing the uuiform of his regiment: a tailor, and native of Stockport. Absconded, charged with embezzlement : — MARK PHILLIPS, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair com- plexion, brown hair, and grey eyes ; dress— dark clothes, hard felt hat, a compositor, native of Dartmouth, Devon, and known at Birmingham. Stolen, about 7 am. on j. lth instant, from a dwelling- house at Dudley :— a silver Waltham lever Watch, No. 4146, brass hands, and steel seconds hand, with brass Chain attached. By a man who had lodged in the house one night, and who is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, rather bow- legged, dark complexion, dark brown hair and moustache, no beard or whiskers ; dressed in a dark mixture cloth suit of clothes, white speck in it, blue aud white spotted necktie, and soft black billocock hat, which he wears a little on one side ; said he was an engine- fitter, and had come from Kidsgrove. Description of WILLIAM AMOR, who absconded from Market Drayton, Salop, on 9th instant, charged on warrant with stealing a canvas money Bag, containing £ 7 8s., all in silver coins :— he is a cabinet maker, from 36 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, Btout build, very small side whiskers on upper part of cheeks, otherwise clean shaved, dark hair, but very bald on top of head, round full face, cut mark on forehead, supposed over right eye, a slight impedi- ment in his speech; supposed native of Kingston- upon- Hull; a man of good education ; dressed in dark cloth coat and vest, brown tweed cloth trousers with small hole above right knee, blue and red striped cotton shirt ( no collar), red knitted or woven guernsey, black hard low- crown felt, hat, and lace- up boots with bras9 eyelet holes, all much worn. He booked from Peplow Railway Station, by the train about, 8 a. m. on 9th instant, and took ticket to Birmingham. Information to Mr. Supt. Absconded from Oldbury on 12th instant, charged with embezzling £ 1 10s.:— a youth, about 17 years of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sandy hair, slightly pockmarked ; dressed, in black coat, dark trousers torn at bottom, white muffler, and lace- up boots ; stated he was n native of Bristol, travels the country with spectacles, and will be found staying at common lodging- houses. Stolen at Edgefold Farm, Middle Huiton, between 8 and 8" 30 a. m. 14th instant:— a silver lever Watch, No. 3771, makers ' Bpyle & Rawson,' had attached a common Guard, chain pattern. Suspicion attached to a boy, 13 year3 of age. low and stout, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes ; dressed in fustian jacket, black cloth vest, old fustian trousers, out at the knees, and clogs, which are much too large for him. BROWN, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair and complexion, very slight dark moustache, no beard or whiskers; dressed in a dark corded jacket and vest, light tweed trousers, and felt hat; he may be carrying a New- market coat; absconded on 3rd instant, taking the 2 30 p. m train, on same date for London, with the intention of going to. BIRCH WOOD, a clerk, about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, dark brown hair, which is very curly, fair mous- tache, very slight sandy whiskers and beard, thin face, fresh complexion, full eyes, and pleasant looking; dressed in a black corded walking coat, with pockets behind, and vest of same material, supposed to be wearing greyish trousers, and. felt hat, a native of Manchester, aud speaks with slight English accent. His mode of operation is to take private lodgings, atatiug he is employed as a saddler in the town, aud then commits larcenies and absconds, leaving his lodgings unpaid. Information to Mr. Supt. ( f< l., also a, pair of hunting Boots, without the tops, at Congham on 23rd utt. : — he is about 17 years of age, 5 . feet 4 or 5 inches high, . fresh complexion, light brown haii> cut short ; dressed in brown mixture frock coat, v. est and twusers to match, low hard Hack hat, and weniiug the stolen boots, he is a groom. Wanted at Derby, charged on a warrant with embezzl- ing the < w. m of J70 13s., the monies of his employers, Edward Smith and Oa, Brick and Tile Makers, Coalville, near Leicester:— HENRY JAMES COOPER, a traveller, 30 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, . and strung build ; dresses well, and wears a silk hat ; is of gentlemanly appearance. He resided at 19, Hickman Road, Bnmingbam, but was last heard of at the Carlton Hotel, Leicester. Is well known to builders and contractors at Birmingham, Leicester, Kettering, Northampton, and Wellingborough. Information to W. A. Delacombe, Lt.- Col, Chief Constable, Town Hall, DERBY.— Bow- street, May li. Stolen fronx a dwelling- house, at Stockport* about~ 2 p. m. 7th instant, 3 Sovereigns and 2 Half- Sovereigns. By a young man who obtained lodgings, taxing he was employed at th » stables at the Railway Station stableman, and that he had been at Bolton 4 years and wa^ transferred to Sheffield and afterwards to, here ; about 20 . years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, freah complexion, daik brown hair, medium build, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in corduroy round jacket, with pockets at sides and laps on them, coid trousers and vest, dirty, cloth cap with peak, black and white scarf, blue plaid shirt, faded, heavy lace- up boots, and had the appearance of a carter. He booked by the 2.45 p. m. train to Manchester, L. and N. W. By, , changing one Half- Sovereign. His mode of operation is to state thai he was transferred with two others, who were out looking for lodgings, and was tired ynd wUhed to go to bed, and watchcd the opportunity of the owners leaving the house, he would then get up and abscond. Wanted, charged with obtaining Money by false pretences, on liih instant:— ALFRED D3 LOW, about 50 years cf age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, brown hair, brown whiskers and moustache, speaks with foreign accent; dressed in brown hard felt hat, light brown overcoat, and black cloth trousers ; he takes apartments, stating that lie is an engineer and surveyor, and then enquires for apartments in the neigh- bourhood for other men who are coming to survey the town ; he then leaves the house to go to the railway station, to meet his men, returns in a shore time, states the bank is not open, and he is short of cash to pay carriage for the men's luggage, obtains a sura of money and decamps. Information to Mr, F. Dutton, Head Constable. NEWCASTLE- USDFR- LYME, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 18. Wanted on a charge of obtaining a box Wheelbarrow by false pretences, on 4th instant :— a man, from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, very red nose, and had the appearance of being much addicted to drink ; dressed iu a dark suit and overcoat, and soft billycock hat. The barrow is painted green, and has not as yet been re- covered. Information at the County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester.-- Bow- street, May 16. Wanted, on a warrant for obtaining food and lodging by false pretences :— AGNES ST. ARNAlJD, 6S years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, thin, cast in one eye ; dress black, long blue cloak, black bonnet, with long crape fall. She states that she had house property destroyed in Paris daring the late siege, and that she receives the ground rent through her banker. Information to Mr. Superintendent Taylor, MAIDENHEAD, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bcw- btreet, May 15. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. James Gimbert, advertised in Police Gazette of 23rd ultimo, as missing from Cheslyn Hay, has been found. R. Cockeiell, Sergeant, CANNOCK.— Bow- street, May 18. Committed for trial at the next Knutsford Sessions, charged with committing numerous frauds on shopkeepers at Stockport :— ELLEN WALTERS alias WILLIAMS, GILL, and WATSON, 33 years of age, 4 feet 10j inches high, fresh complexion, stoutish build, brown hair, grey eyes; well dressed, and of good address. States she has resided in Manchester for the last 12 months at Mr. Jones's. 57, Blan- chard- street, Oxford- road, also in Junction- street, Vine- street, Ardwick; and previous to that with her husband, Thomas Walters, joiner's builder, 37, Ogwen- street, West Derby road, Liverpool, and is well known to Inspector Gardiner over public- houses ; admits being sentenced to 14 days at Man- chester City Police Court, December 6th, 1882, for stealing a Skirt from a Mr. Starkey. And SARAH WILLIAMS, mother to Walters, 61 yrs. of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, sallow complexion, medium build, brown hair, grey eyes ; well dressed. She is the widow of Edgar Williams, solicitor ( late of Chester), 8, King- street, but since her husband's death she has lived in Liverpool And Manchester with her daughter and sons.
