THE Police Gazette, OR HUE- AXD- CRY. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. MI Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can bo inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn ; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Huo- and- Cry. Should irregularities ariso in tho delivery of tho Hue- and- Cry, it will bo necessary to forward ono of tho covers, or give the number it bears,- as without this information it is almost impossible to rectify the mistake. FAILED to report his change of residence, licence holder, G 408, Henry Jackson, alias Robert Nally, a ^ room, native of Dublin, 29 years of ago, 5 feet 7f. inches high, stout build, brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, round features, scar on right elbow joint, flat- i'cjted, fifth too of each foot overlaps fourth, convicted fj^ iverpool Sessions, 17th April, 1880, of being in-' possession of counterfeit coin, and was sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude ; released from Her Majesty's Convict. Prison, Portsmouth, 15th March, 1883, on licence. He was previously convicted at Dublin, 4th February, 1879, of larceny, and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment. ASGOW POLICE. mitt? .£ 520. this oity ona Sheriff's Warrant., charged with forging the signature of his masters, Macindoe Brothers, Stockbrokers, North Court, Royal Exchange, to a cheque for .€ 520, and cashing it in a bank in this city, on 17th April, current, Alfred Anderson :— A clerk, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, slender made, very dark brown hair, parted in centre, and stands straight up in front and rather short, bare faced, rather high cheek bones, hollow cheeks, dark eyes, and a blue mark ( scar) about the size of a pea above right eye ; dressed in a short dark tweed coat, dark vest and trowsers, and high crowned black felt hat; has with him a checked tweed Ulster of a yellowish colour, a black leather travelling bag, and a crooked walking stick. Accused absconded on 17th instant, taking the 9.15 P. M. train from Central Station ( Caledonian Railway) to London, where he presented on the following day three £ 100 notes requesting change, and on being questioned ran off, leaving tho notes in tho bank ; it was his intention to proceed to Spain via Paris. Police officers are requested to keep a lookout for accused, as if ho lias left this country he may return and be found spending money recklessly, or in destitute circumstances, and should he be arrested or any information obtained communicate with A. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 7th May, 1883, absconded from the Rehoboth- placo Reformatory School at Dublin :— William Williams, No. 203, about 14 years of age, 4 feet 2 inches high, stout make, walks badly, very fresh complexion, very fair hair, gray eyes, small nose, round visage, small mole on left side of forehead, tattoos of Indian ink on one of his arms, formerly belonged to Knockadaragh, county Limerick, where his parents reside. The school dress consists of bad old gray friezo jackot, light cord trowsers, cord vest, nailed boots fastened by straps and buckles, old black jerry cap, new blay calico shirt well stamped, and blay cotton socks. This boy was on Burgh- quay on Tuesday morning,. 8th instant; he changed his jacket and hat; knows nothing of the city, and must therefore wander about and beg for his living till arrested. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who- may capture him with XI. PARTICULARS relative to Convict Mary Egan, 2428, convicted in the county of the city of Dublin, at the Commission, on 4th June, 1878, for felony of three coats, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude:— f> 5 vears of age on conviction, is a Roman Catholic, widow, is a dealer, was born in Limerick, resided before conviction in Dublin, lier friends reside at Limerick; brown hair turning gray, gray eyes, light eyebrows, short nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, broad and- long visage, burn mark on right temple, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high. This convict was discharged from Mountjoy Prison on licence, 20th November, 1882, and went to Dublin. Armagh. Arthur Hagan ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th April, 1883. Cavan. DESCRIPTION of Edward M'Neill ( supposed fic- titious), said he belonged to Derrylane, near Kille- shandra, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd May, 1883, in the barony of Lower Loughtee, parish of Anna, sold two heifers in Belturbet fair to two cattle dealers from Monaghan town for £ 10, but who, on being desired, to get some person to vouch for his honestly coming by the heifers, de- camped, and has not since been heard of:— Slightly stooped, brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 55 or 60 years of age ; wore a jerry hat, brown frieze coat, black trowsers, and dark vest; appeared to be a small farmer. The heifers are in the possession of the Police at Belturbet. Description of the heifers :— 1. A red and white heifer, star on forehead, two years old, in low condition; value for .£ 9. 2. WHEREAS by Proclamation dated the 2nd February, 1882, His Excellency offered a reward of Five Hundred Pounds to any person or persons who should, within a limited time therein specified, give such information as would load to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the Murder of John Lennane, of Breffa South, near Miltown Malbay, in the county of Clare, on the night of the - 24th January, 1882 : And whereas the time therein specified for giving such information has expired : And His Excellency is pleased to renew the said offer, and doth hereby offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who, within six months from the date hereof, shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the perSon or persons who committed thi^ Murder. His Excellency is also pleased to offer to any person concerned in, or privy to the said Murder, other than the person or persons who actually committed the same, in case of his giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons, or any of them, concerned in this Murder, a FREE PARDON and the special protection of the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions, in addition to a i- eward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS. • His Excellency is further pleased to offer a reward • TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS for such private information, given within the samfi period, as shall lead to the conviction of the person ® r persons who committed the Murder. And His Excellency is further pleased to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the identification of any person concerned in or privy to the Murder, such last- mentioned reward of One Hundred Pounds to be paid upon the information being corroborated to His Excellency's satisfaction by other information in His Excellency's possession, even though no person should be made amenable to justice as a result thereof. And His Excellency hereby promises that every effort shall be made to insure that the name or names of any person or persons who may become entitled to any of the said rewards for private information shall not be disclosed or made public, and that the said reward shall be paid in any manner in which such person shall desire. Any person having information to give may com- municate it to R. D. Crotty, Esq., Resident Magis- trate at Ennistymon ; to Owen Wynne, Esq., Sub- Inspector, Royal Irish Constabulary, at Ennistymon, or to any other Government Official in Great Britain or Ireland. DESCRIPTION of William John Murphy, native of Ballynahinch, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd March, 1883, in the barony of Kinalarty, parish of Magheradrool, stolen two cows, the property of James Irwin, from his cow- house, at Creevytenant, near Ballynahinch. The cows were found in Murphy's yard, in Belfast :— Mark of a sore on left cheek from bite of an ass, on which there is a scab, hard lump on forefinger of left hand from scutching, old cuts on right hand, brown eyes, long nose, dirty THE POLICE GAZETTE, OB, HuE- AJO- CKY, MAY 11, 1883. sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 38 years of age, brown hair; is a scutcher, and deals in paraffin oil. Mary M'Cabe ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Huo- and- Cry, 6th April, 1883. Galway. DUBLIN CASH E, 9th June, 1882. WHEKKAS at or about the hour of twenty minutes pnst three o'clock, P. M.. on Thursday, the 8th June, instant, Walter M. Bourkc, Esq., of Rahassane Park, Craughwell..( jn the county of Galway, and Corporal Wallace, of the Royal Dragoons, were shot dead on the road close to one of the gates of Castle Taylor Demesne, near Ardrahan, in the said county, by some person or persons at present unknown : His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of these Murders, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months Irom tho date hcroof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons, or any of them, who committed the said Murders. And a further reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. His Excellency is also pleased to offer in addition to the above rewards a FREE PARDON and the Special Protection of the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions to any person concerned in, or privy to, the said Murders other than the person or persons who actually committed the same, in case of his giving such information as shall lead to the con- viction of tho persons, or any of them, concerned in the Murders aforesaid. And whereas any person who knowingly receives into his or her house or otherwise harbours or maintains any of the persons who committed tho said Murders, or conceals or aids any of them in escaping or endeavouring to escape from justice becomes liable to penal servitude for life : His Excellency is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any porson or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, givo such information as shall lead to the CONVICTION of any person who lias so received, harboured, maintained, or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from justice, or who sliull receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from justice, any of the persons who committed the said Murders. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Finnerty, native of Clough, who stands charged with having, on the 9tli March, 1883, in the barony of Tiaquin, parish of Cloonkeen, while of unsound mind, attempted to assault his wife. Ho left his home about the 15th inst., was seen at Mountbellew, on tho 18th inst., and it is believed he has mot with some evil end. He had £ 30 in his pocket, and is much afraid of being poisoned:— Blue eyes, short pointed nose, fresh complexion, full broad faco, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 4 7 years of age, brown hair turning gray, small siilo whiskers, no moustache; wore a frieze Repeal coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a small farmer. DESCRIPTION of Martin Long, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 27th April, 1883. in the barony of East Offaly, patish of Kildare, committed an indecent assualt on a child named Bridget Cahill, aged between 10 and 11 years:— High cheek bones, narrow chin, regular nose, fair complexion, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed pea coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a stable boy ; was in the employment of Mr. Beatley, near Clonsilla, county Dublin. Mathew Smith ( attempt to commit a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1883. William Tegan ( attempt to commit a rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1883. The man, name and native place unknown, described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th March, 1883, ( intimidation), not arrested. Kilkenny. DESCRIPTION of two head of cattle, the property of Thomas Cass, which were stolen from off his lands at Feroda, parish of Castlecomer, barony of Fassa- dineen, county of Kilkenny, on 2nd May, 1883 :— One four- year- old red cow ( dry), with straight horns, in fair condition ; value for about £ 13 10s. One bullock, years old, white colour with red spots about head and neck, large horns" for age, and branded with letter C on right hip, was in thin condition ; value for about £ 10. The man, name unknown, supposed native of Drogheda, ( cattle stealing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 27th March, 1883. Patrick Keely ( attempt to set fire to a house, and failing to take his trial when bailed to do so), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 16th March, 1883. Mayo. DESCRIPTION of Michael Flynn, native of Tip- perary, who stands charged with having, on the 24th January, 1883, at Ballaghaderreen, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilcolman, assaulted Sub- Constable John Connell and Sub- Constable Thadeus Higgins, in the execution of their duty, and was admitted to bail, but failed to attend at Ballaghaderreen Petty Sessions, held on 12th February, 1883:— Cut mark over left eye, black eyes, straight nose, dark com- plexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, black hair; wore a round hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a carpenter. This man has friends residing at. Castlerea, county Roscommon, and goes from town to town working at his trade as carpenter. Ballaghaderreen, May 8, 1883. ( 56863 c.— 6568.) DESCRIPTION of James Ruddy, native of Doogort East, who stands charged with having, on the 5th April, 1883, in the barony of Burrishoole, parish of Acbill, seriously assaulted Patrick Grealish, thereby placing his life in danger:— Good- looking, smart active appearance, gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a dark coat, cord trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Fanny Donohoe, native of Ross, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd May, 1883, in the barony of Fore, parish of Killeagh, stolen a cow, the property of her ^ brother, James Somerville, of Ross:— Stoppage in speech, brown eyes, long Roman nose, fresh complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a brown felt hat, turned up in front, trimmed with red and brown satin, blue flowers in one side; black dress, trimmed with red stuff; a white cloth jacket, and dark gray Ulster with two rows of buttons in front; or may wear a navy blue dress and black shawl. Description of the cow :— A low- sized milch cow, five weeks after calving, brown with white spots, white stripe across shoulder, white star on forehead, some warts on two hind spins, horns large but curving niccly, letters " J. S." on each horn, about 10 years old ; value for £ 16. Kells, May 5, 1883. ( 57556c.— 6911.) DESCRIPTION of James Little, native of Dollards- town, who stands charged with having, on the 11th April, 1883, in the barony of Skreen, parish of Tara, stolen, £ 23, in notes and gold, from his employer, Richard Wilkinson, of Castleboy :— Gray or blue eyes, large nose, fresh complexion, full fat face, stoi make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 19 years of ago; wore a brown hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest. DESCRIPTION of six persons, charged on remand with having stolen property in their possession :— 1. Martin M'Donagh— States' he is a native of Athlone, dark side whiskers, upper lip anil chin shaved, dark complexion, round face, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 35 years of age ; wears a blue sack coat, brown tweed trowsers and vest; is a tinker. 2. Cathrine M'Donagh— States she is a native of Athlone, gray eyes, regular nose, slightly freckled face, 4 feet 9 inches high, about 40' years of age, sandy hair cut short, states she has been in tho Mullingar Asylum for six months; wears a striped cotton dress, plaid shawl, and strong boots. 3. Margaret M'Donnell— Of Athlone, hazel eyes, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, stout make, 4 feet ' 2 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair ; wears a blue dress and plaid shawl. 4. John Graham— States he is a natAof Athlone, blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexis^,. thin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 38 years of age, light brown liair, sandy whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; frears a blue pilot sack coat, black corduroy trowsers, and strong laced boots ; is a tinker, and states he was in the army. Mary Graham— Of Athlone, small blue eyes, nose, freckled face, 4 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, 40 years of age ; wears a striped petticoat and strong laced boots. 6. Margaret Ward— Brown eyes, slightly cocked nose, long face, stout make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 28 years of age, black hair; wears a striped shawl, old brown petticoat, and elastic side boots. The following is a list of the art have been stolen, which were possession when arrested at CI larceny, viz. :— A mare ass, gray colour, liea off breast, white spot on* on hind feet, about 7 years a new . set of ass's tackling, maker's name ( Madden) on the collar; an newly painted, body and inside painted red, outsido blue, ends of shafts black ; a lever watch, No. 4450, maker's name A. Haswell, London, value for about £ 2 ; a suit of men's gray tweed clothes, new ; a gray frieze napped coat, new; a dark brown tweed trowsers; a pair of white woollen drawers ; a brown round hard hat; a dark plaid shirt; a calico shirt; a green necktie; a black necktie; two pairs of white woollen socks ; a pair of gray woollen socks ; a pair of brown woollen socks ; a pair of cotton socks; two pairs of men's strong laced boots, with toecaps ; two pairs of women's strong laced boots ; a pair of new blankets ; a single blanket, new; two gray calico sheets ; a green quilt; a pair of child's small woollen socks ; a gray check apron ; a white calico apron ; a small chemise; a small black and white jacket; a small gray jacket; a Cashmere woollen shawl, red and white colour ; a woman's dress, red colour, trimmed with velvet; a small flannel petticoat; a green plaid handkerchief; a green woollen scarf shawl; a striped skirt; a blue petticoat; a gray dress, body braided; four yards of grey calico ; one- and- a- half yards of new lilac; one- and- a- half yards of furniture cotton ; three- and- a- half yards of blue cloth ; a black skirt; a brown skirt, trimmed with brown velvet; two new white flannel petticoats ; a brown muffler; a striped dress, lined with calico. DESCRIPTION of Garrett Burns, native place near Cahir, Maurice Harding, native of Ballygorteen, and Garrett Cussen, native of Rossadrehid, who stand charged with having, on the '- hid March. 1883, in tho barony of Iffa and Offa West, parish of Temple- tenny, been three of an armed party who attacked the house of Denis O'Brien, of Kiltankin :— 1. Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair, no whiskers ; wore a low jorry hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. 2. Blue eyos, Roman nose, fresh complexion, long face, medium make, 5 foct 7 inches high, about 32 years of age, brown hair, sandy side whiskers, shaves the rest of his face; wore a low jerry hat, brown tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. t _ 3. Walks with a swagger, dark eyes, rather cocked nose, dark complexion, round fat face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of nge, black hair, wears a black moustache, rather heavy ; wore a dark tweed suit; is a carpenter. DESoRti'rp^ of Charles M'Dermott native of Strabane, wuo stands charged with having, on the 10th April, 1883, in tho barony of Upper Strabane, parish of Upper Badoney, obtained a heifer by false pretences, and afterwards selling same in the fair of Plumbridge, and absconding with the amount:— Three warts under right ear adjoining cheek bone, the rosultof evil, shuffling swaggering gait when walking ; large wild gray eyes, regular nose, pale yellow com- plexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 or 33 years of age, dark hair, shaves all his face ; wore a milky white hat, brown coat, trowsers, and vest, greasy looking and shabby ; is a low cattle dealer. WHEREAS by Proclamation dated the 20th May, 1882, His Excellency offered a reward of Two Thousand Pounds to any person or persons who should, within a limited time therein specified, give such information as would lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the Murder of Mrs. Henry Smythe, in the demesne at Barbavilla, in the county of Westmeath, on the 2nd April, 1882 : And whereas the time therein specified for giving such information has expired: And His Fxcellency is pleased to renew the said offer, and doth hereby offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who, within six months from the date hereof, shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed this Murder. DESCRIPTION of William Kelly, native of Red Bog, who stands charged with having, on the 30th April, 1883, in the barony of Shelmalier West, parish of Whitechurch Glynn, stolen a sheep, the property of Michael Kehoe, off the lands of Lambstown Great, and sold it at the fair of Taghmon, on 2nd May, 1883, after which he absconded :— Slovenly slouching gait, wears short side whiskers, rest of face shaved, dark eyes, rather hooked nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft black hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farm servant.
