Notice.— It it requested that all communicatione for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that tn information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, ali Letter*) addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, Bhould be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without khe apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London," PRISON and PC LICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded from Hay Mill, near Birmingham, on 2cd instant, charged with causing the death of an illegitimate female infant, found in a railway carriage at Worcester, on same date :— a woman, 60 to 65 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, slight figure, very thin sharp features ( wrinkled), wide mouth ; dressed in black clothes, with widow's bonnet, and long crape veil; her daughter, the alleged mother of the child, is in custody at Worcester on the above charge. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Yardley, ACOCKS GREEN, near Bir- mingham.— Bow- street, April 18. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. About 2.30 a. m., on 18th instant, a stackyard, at Wem, Salop, was discovered on fire, when about 28 tons of Hay, 28 tons of Straw, Swede Turnips, Timber, Implements, Caits and other things were all destroyed. Supposed the act of an incendiary. Information to Mr. Supt. Ho wells, WHITCHURCH, or to Sergeant Owen, WEM, Salop.—• Bow- st., April 20. FORGERY. Wanted in Aberdeen, for forging or uttering a forged bill of exchange for £ 185, on 2nd instant:— JAM. ES STEWART MURRISON, native of Aberdeen, clerk, or private in the Royal Highlanders, 33 years of age, fresh or florid complexion, blue eyes, common nose, fair hair, of a reddish tinge, reddish whiskers, small and on sides of face, if any, shaved on chin, reddish moustache, cut straight across when last seen, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout make ; scars on right cheek, chin, and point of fourth finger on left hand ; moles on left side of neck, inside right thigh, and under left armpit; he is a deserter, and although only a few months in the Army, has a smart soldier- like appearance, and is pre- sently wanted in Perthshire, for obtaining a horse and dog- cart by false pretences; dressed in a long dark or blue over- coat or ulster of rough material, dark trousers, and low round crowned billycock hat. Stolen from the person at Burslem, on 14th instant :— a Bank Draft for £ 42, drawn on Smith, Payne, and Smith, London, No. 33287, payable to Thomas Robinson, 10 days after date ; and a dark leather Purse, containing 2a.; and a gent's gold Ring, 22 carat, ' My Father' engraved on outside. Stolen from the person at Lichfield Races, on 10th inst.:— one small gold scarf Pin, set with diamonds, one diamond lost in centre. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 11 a. m. and 12 noon, on 16th instant, from a cottage in the Gloucester Roa- j, Cheltenham :— a dark rough moDkey Jacket, a pair of light cloth Trousers, a black and white plaid Shawl, a woman's short black cloth Jacket, a white Apron, a pillow Case, and an old wedding Ring ( bent) :— supposed by a man, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thin build, dark hair, brown eyes, dark complexion, a circle in ink left arm, moles on face and neck, dirty looking, whiskers shaved off and always appears to be a few days growth, short stubby moustache; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, light grey cloth trousers, tight fitting, dark cloth cap with peak and tassel on top, all of which is old and much worn; kuock- kneed with left leg; frequents tramp lodging- houses. By a man who was traced to Horley, where fce took the 5 o'clock train to Red Hill, and left again, going towards Reigate, about 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, short dark hair, dark whiskers, medium figure ; dressed in long black coat, dark tweed trousers, b'ack soft billycock or hard felt hat with flat brim, and very light boots. Stolen between 6 and 10 p. m. ou 16th instant, from a meadow at Green hi the, Swanscombe, Kent:— a light mouse- coloured mare Donkey, black nose, off hind foot larger than the other. Supposed by two lads— 1st, about 18 years of age, 5 feet high, the other about 15 years of age, 4 ft. 10 ins. high ; both dressed in dark clothes, and very shabby appear- ance ; were seen the same evening with a donkey and a dark brown cob, saddle back, and about 14 or 15 hands high, going towards London. Webster, Kent Constabulary, DARTTORD.— Bow- street, April 20, Remanded at Evesham, until 21st instant, on suspicion of stealing two dairy Cows :— WILLIAM COLLINS, of Worcester, 28 yeais of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, dark brown hair, giey eyes. One of the cows is a light roan shorthorn, about 4 years old, and in good milking condition ; the other is a red shorthorn, with white bully and two white spnti on back, about 3 years old, and also in good milking condition. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, PER- SHORE ; or to Sergeant Gauderton, EVESHAM, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, April 20. Remanded at Burslem, till 23rd instant, charged with stealing a grey Mare, aged, 16i hands, turns off forefoot inwards when walking, scar on t ocks, strong, and in good condition, not recovered:— JAMES MALKIN, carter, of Baddeley Green, near Hanley, 38 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high without shoea, dark complexion, dark liair, turning grey, slight dark whiskers, brown eyes, slender build, a native of Kingsley, near Stoke- upon- Trent; dressed in black tommy hat, dark cloth jacket, brown tweed vest, dark mixture trousers, and strong lace- up boots States he sold the mare to Alfred Bates or Lawton, of Lawton, Cheshire, who travels ohe country with hobby horses aed is now . supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Shirley wich, near Westoa- on- Trent, or Middlewich, Cheshire. Wanted for stealing a dark brown Mare ( recovered), at Burstow, on 18th instant, two men :— one is 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, brown moustache, very few whiskers up side of face, proportionate build ; dressed in black frock coat, light tweed trousers, hard felt hat, and lace- up shoes ; had the appearance of a gipsy ; the other is 23 yrs. of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, very dark complexion, large black eyes, black hair and moustache, small dark whiskers up side of face, proportionate build ; dressed in brown tweed trousers fitting tight to the legs, light cloth coat, and old ragged over- coat ; had the appearance of a gipiy. Had in their possession ( but now in the hands of the Police), a dark brown mare Pony, aged, 13J hands high.,; white star on forehead, bang tail, and chipped knees ; and. a large dealer's Cart, two steps at each side, cap to off wheel deficient, picked out with white and blue stripes, name on shaft ' James Marney, Cioydon, Surrey ' ( supposed fictitious) Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen from a field on the Quarry Farm, Bletchingley, during the night of 14th instant :— a bay cob Gelding, 14 hands 2 inches high, well bred, and carries its head high when going, and very free, the mane cut for the bridle to fit in, a long tail. Information to Supt. Rogers, Police Station, REDHILL.— Bow- street, April 18. Stolen between 7 p. m. on 12th, and 5 a. m. on 13th inst,, from a field at Llwynrhedeith Farm, Fordeu:— a fat Lamb, copner face, brown legs, and tail cut. Information to Mr. Supt. Ellis, WELSHPOOL, or at the Police Station, FORDEN, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 16. Stolen from a farmyard at Blackmore, Essex, during the night of 9th instant:— a bay cab Gelding, rising 8 years old, 15 hands high, black legs, little white on forehead, resembling more of a slight streak than a star, docked tail, 2 saddle marks about the size of a shilling, large hoofs, shoes measure 5 inches over, in good condition and a compact animal, value about £ 25. When in work, either in cart or saddle, should spur or whip bo used, would jib, but is a good trace horse. Two men seen on the night of 9th instant, near where the horse was atoleD from, and had wiih them a dark cob and heavy cart, resembling a corn met chant's cart. One of the men was about 40 years of age, 6 feet high ; dressed in a dark hat, and long dark overcoat. The other about 35 years of age, and shorter, but similar dressed. Information to Vtr. Superintendent Lennon, Constabulary Office, EPPINO, Essex. — Bow- street, April 13. Stolen on the morning of 10th instant, from a field at Tickford's Fsrm, Ifield, Crawley :— a chestnut Pony, about 12 hands high, mane and foielock cut short, and tail cut square, one knee has been chipped, and is a little swollen. Supposed by a man 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light com- plexion, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, medium build, pointed nose ; dressed in light tweed suit, much worn, old black hard felt hit, heavy lace- up boots, seen going as hard as he could to Kiugswooii, near Epsom. Information to Mr. Supt. L. B. Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, HORSHAM.— Bow- street, April 13. Stolen from Rtnton, between 8 p m. 25th and 7 30 a. m. 26th ultimo :— a light- coloured mare Donkey, dark mane and nose, shoulders rubbed with collar, turns near hind foot in on one side, in low condition. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Charged with stealing Corn at Egerton, near Broxton :— GEORGE SHAW, alias BOFFEY and CORK, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ir ches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair turning grey, shaves sides of face, a short billy on chin, and walks lame, one leg shorter than the other, travels the country with a pony or donkey and long low covered cart, hawking salt and rubbing stones. Information to Mr. Supt. Plant, County Constabulary, BROXTON.— Bow- ttreet, April 20. Charged with stealing a Bicycle ( not recovered), at Hodnet, Salop, on 14th instant :— a man, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender build, small dark moustache, no whiskers, was suffering from inflammation in his eyes, was wearing a white hankkerchief on his forehead, nearly covering his eyes ; dressed in dark grey trousers, dark mixture jacket and vest, black billy hat, low boots tied with black ribbon. Information to Mr. Supt. Howclls, WHITCHURCH, or Sergeant Owen, WEM, Salop.— Bern- street, April 20. JOSEPH HENDRICK, advertised in Police Gazette of 6th November last, as wanted at Cradley Heath, Staffordshire, for stealing a Watch, has been apprehended at Gainsborough, and committed to Stafford Gaol for three months.— Bow- street,, April 20. Absconded, charged with stealing .£ 100 in Gold : — JANE BURT, gipsy, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, light h- iir— cut short in front, and grey eyes ; dressed in black bonnet and dress, grey shawl, accompanied by 4 children— 2 boys, 14 and 8 years of age, eldest with nose broken,— 2 girls, 10 aud 4 years of age, all wore heavy nailed lace boots. She has cohabited with James Shah, alias Belcher Le « , a license holder, a notorious horse stealer. May be found in some . oip^ y encampment. Information to the Director of Criminal Investigations, GREAT SCOTLAND YARD, S. W., or at any Police Station.— Metropolitan Police, April 20. The man, advertised in Police Gazette of 9th instant, wanted at Boston, for stealing 4 Coats, has been apprehended at Grantham and remanded. He gives the name of ROBT LEE, alias WM. WATERSON, about 46 years of age, 5 ft! 6 inches high, full ruddy complexion, brown hair, bald on top of head, small brown moustache and whiskers, recently shaved off, blue sunken eyes, has lost a front top tooth, pro- minent nose, stout build, cupped on left breast, and lost 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE April 27 forefinger left hand above first joint; and has a ' D' tattooed leftWeand a crown back of left hand and a surly look ; 16 ' trousers and vest, blue guernsey, black dressed in fustian —— ... pilot cloth jacket, laced boots, red and black plaid scarf, hard black felt hat, woollen shirt with broad red stripes, white flannel one underneath, and red girth strap round waist. He stated that he works as a navvy, is a native of Coventry, and was invalided from 11th Hussars at Colchester in 1874, with a pension of Is. a day, but has not applied for it for fomi- years. Charged with stealing .£ 23 in Gold and £ 2 14?. in silver : — GEORGE COOK, 27 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, small dark side whiskers and moustache ; dressed in blaek hard felt hat, dark grey mixture overcoat, very long, black woisted jacket, and elastic side boots ; has a sister, named S. Cook, at 14, Bewdley Street, Kidderminster ; his father resides at Layester, near Tenbury, Worcestershire and k a shoemaker. Information to Mr. Supt. Leighton, County Constabulary, ALTRJNCIIAM, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 16. Charged on a warrant with stealing 40 Sacks on 27th January last:— EDMUND SAYER3, 47 or 48 yearR of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, very full faced, grey eyes, dark brown hair, turning grey, bald cn top of head, and few whiskers side of face, figure stout; residence late of Barcombe; trade, miller's foreman ; dressed iu grey or brown suit. Info- matior to Thomas Osbon, Supt. of Police, LEWES.— Bow street, April 16. Description of THOMAS GUEST, supervisee, who is wanted for stealing three Ducks, at Brockmoor, on 10th inst.: — he is 43 years of age, 5 feet 3^ inches high, pale com- plexion, light brown hair, bald on top of head, proportionate build, grey eyes, has a peculiar cast in one eye, supposed to be the right, oval face, by trade an iron roller, and is a native of Dudley. Convicted at Worcester Sessions 1872, and sen- tenced to 10 years penal servitude and 7 years police super- vision ; he was liberated from prison on 9th December last. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Police Office, BRIF. RLEY HILL, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, April 16. Charged on a warrant with stealing 13s, at Totterdown, on 4th instant:— ANNIE TAYLOR, about 26 or 27 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, and scar on one cheek, supposed right; dressed in old dark jacket and dress, white apron, white straw hat, trimmed with blaek. She travels from town to town, and lorges at low beer- houses or common lodging- houses, and is known by the nick name of ' Bridgewater Nance.' Information to Mr. Supt. Drewett, FLAX BOORTON, or to Sergeant Knight, TOTTERDOWN, Somerset, Bristol.— Bow- street, April 16. Absconded on 7th instant, from Glenn Parva Barrack?, charged an warrant with stealing £ 6 12s. :— JOHN COOK, a private in the Leicestershire Regiment, 27 years of age. and appears well acquainted with the neighbourhood < f Kingsland and Hackney. Information to Robt. Hitchman, Chief Constable, Chief Constable's Office, NORWICH.— Bow- street, April 20. Description of a tramping tinman, wanted for obtaining 5s., by false pretences, on 7th instant :— he is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, st > ut build, hair turning grey, small moustache, no whiskers; dressed in old dark clothes, black billycock hat, broad brim, high crown, had several small tin dishes, which he carried in his pockets ; he was accompanied by a man, about 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes. Wanted on a charge of fraud at Glastonbury :— FREDERICK GEORGE PORTO H, 25 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, cut very short, small moustache, rather stout made, very quick aud intelligent, an active walker ; dressed in a light cloth suit and stiff bowler hat. Office, 5 feet 4 inches high, black hair aid moustache, both cut short, hazel eyes, dark complexion, stout make ; dressed " cloth coat and vest, dark coloured mixed cloth black hard billycock hat, and uniform boots; in black trousers, UU. U —— a native of Melton Mowbray, but his friends have removed to the neighbourhood of Sheffield or Rotherham, where he has a brother working at either an iron furnace or gas works. Grimston, Chief Constable, LEICESTER, or to Deputy Chief Constable Moore, Constabulary Station, BELGRAVE, near Leicester, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, April 16". Wanted on a warrant, charged with stealing a Clarionet, at Whittington Heath, on 7th instant:— Private JOHN ANDERSON, 1st Battalion North Stafford Regiment, a drummer, 21 years of age, 5 feet 0| inch high, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair cut short ( come out of cells), light blue fye » , slender build, bracelet tattooed on each wrist, sailor and flag on right forearm, five marks of vaccination on each arm, a native of St. John's, Congleton, Cheshire ; dressed in pepper- and- salt tweed coat, rather large tweed trousers and vest, soft hat, and regimental boots. He pledged the clarionet at Mr. Price's pawushop Burton- on- Trent, for £ l, and there purchased the suit of clothes that he was weariug. He has friends at Stone, in the Potteries, and also at Sandbaeb, in Cheshire. Information to Sergeant Pearson, Police Station, WHITTINGTON, near Lichfield, who holds a warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, April 16. Stolen on 9th instant, from a stable at the Fox Hotel, Three Bridges :— a: i old light tweed Jacket, pockets at sides and left breast, black braid, and light bone buttons, Pocket Book and red Handkerchief in pockets; also an old 1 lack Overcoat, pockets at sides, black covered buttons, and brown spot on one side of coat; also a doublo headed riding Bridle. By a stable helper, about 25 years of age, look younger, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light complexion, pointed nose, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, proportionate figure ; dressed in black hard felt hat, tweed vest, dark tweed trousers, heavy half boots, and stolen coats, has a shuffling walk ; has lived with Mr. Wicks, Railway Hotel, Horley, aud other places for about 2 months, was seen going towards Kingston- on- Thames, where he states he has a brother named Shakespiere, a cab proprietor. Leighton, Constabulary ALTRINCHAM.— Bow- street, Ap- il 20. Missing since 2nd ultimo :— THOMAS BRANTON, 25 years of age, 6 feet 1 men nigh, fair complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, thin light moustache, no whiskers, of military appearance, is an engineer iu the Royal Navy. He left his lodgings, the Railway Hotel, New Brompton, Chatham, on 2nd March, to go to London, and has not since been heard of. It is feared some ill has befallen him. Wanted at Perth, under a Sherriff's warrant, charged with having on 15th ultimo, obtained a Horse and Dogcart, by false pretences :— JAMES STUART, a private in the Royal Highlanders ( Black Watch), stationed at Perth, native of Aberdeen, 26 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair hair, inclined to red, little or no whiskers, small fair moustache, conspicuous scar on chin, speaks with Scotch accent, smart soldier- like appearance, and is well educated ; dressed in the uniform of the regiment, and was wearing his greatcoat; he enlisted at Newcastle- on- Tyne, on 2lst November, 1882, and is now a deserter from his regiment. Description of the Horse and Dog- cart— a light brown 9 year old Horse, nearly 16 hands high, two white fetlocks, a little flat on n. ar side, having once two ribs broken, wore a set of silver mounted harness, nearly new ; a 4- wheeled small sized Dog Cart, light weight, almost new, blue painted with white lines, blue fittings, top o£ dash- board silver plated, motto ' Follow me,' engraved on back, wheel caps stamped, supposed ' Peddie, Kilmarnock,' also an ordinary carriage Whip ; horse Rug, and two waterproof Aprons. Police Officers are requested to make special search and enquiry for the accused, also for the Horse and Dog- cart, and if found to detain, and wire to the Subscriber. THOMAS WHITESIDE, 43 years of age, 5 feet 7i inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and grey eyes, auchor, heart, and ' F. W.' on right arm, anchor left arm, mole right side, cut right knee, scar left shin, both little fingers crooked ; convicted at Preston Sessions, 29th June, 1881, for stealing au Ass, and sentenced to 4 months and 2 years police supervision. RICHARD SINGLETON, 24 years of age, 5 feet5i inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and grey eyes, scar on nose, back first finger left hand, and on left buttock ; convicted at Preston Sessions 18th February, 1874, for receiving stolen property, and sentenced to 7 years and 7 years police supervision.
