The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are blown but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Nottce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed u> the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. • » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the iusertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor uiDxt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for intertion in the POLIOS GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The • mount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( S). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without Vhe apprehension of the offender. It Is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 2nd instant, the dead body of a female Child, about 5 days old, was found in a carriage in the Midland Trian from Birmingham, arriving at Shrub- hill, Worcester, at 415 p. m. The body was wrapped in an old linen cloth, the top part of an old chemise, « ncl a piece of cloth was tied round the body ; a piece of white paper, and a portion of the ' Bir- mingham Vnst' of 30th March last, were wrapped round the body, and the whole was in a small dark casvas ( striped) hand bag. lt is believed that the child had been poisoned. A woman, about 20 years of age, very short, had the appearance of a general servaut, dressed iu a long brown ulster, small round hat, had with her an umbrella, and an apron under her arm; she took a ticket from Camphill to Kingsnorton, but came on to Drcitwicb, where she got out and left the bag in the train, and returned by the 8 29 p. m. train with the same ticket, as she stated to the railway officials that she had been brought past her destination. An inquest, has been held, and is adjourned - till 10th instant. Information to Deputy Chief Constable George Checketts, County Police Office, WORCESTER. — Bow- itrevt, April 9. Stolen from the person at Aylesbury, on 5th instant :— a double- cased gold keyless Watch, No. 7935, maker « Walsh Brothers, Melbourne', monogram on outer case ' S. P., 1875'. Also an old- fashioned double- cased silver Watch, maker ' J. O. Smith', number 14502. Information to Mr. Supt, Chapman. Herts Constabulary, HF. MEL HEMPSTEAD.— Bow- nreet, April 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Chealyn Hay, between 7 and 9 p. m. on 8th instant:— a silver Boston lever Watch, No. 779535, white dial, black figures, steel hands, seconds hand, opens at the back, ' No. 41, Foggs Patent' inside case, back side of case stained with quick silver. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Hackney, BROWNHILLS, Walsall, or to Sergeant Cockerel!, Police Office, CANNOCK, near Stafford.— Bow- street, April 11. Stolen from a counting- house at Newbury, during the night of 5th iuatant:— 13s. in Silver, 3s. iu Bronze coin, aud 7s. worth of Penny Postage Stamps. Entrance waa obt. aiued by forcing the window sash up with a jemmy, and footprints were found in an adjoining garden, of some person whose feet appear to have beer muffled. Information to Mr. Supt. Bennett, Berks Constabulary, NEWBORY.— Bow- street, April 9. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a farmyard at Blackmore, Essex, during the night of 9th instant:— a bay cab Gelding, rising 8 years old, 15 hands high, black legs, little white on forehead, resembling more of a slight streak than a star, docked tail, 2 saddle marks about the size of a shilling, large hoofs, shoes measure 5 inches over, in good condition and a compact animal, value about £ 25. When in work, either in cart or saddle, should spur or whip bo used, would jib, but is a good trace horse. Two men seen on the night of 9th instant, near where the horse waa stoleD from, and had with them a dark cob and heavy cart, resembling a corn merchant's cart. One of the uien was about 40 years of age, 6 feet high ; dreaaed in a dark hat, and long dark overcoat. The other about 35 yeara of age, and shorter, but similar dressed. Stolen nnfthe morning of 10th iuatant,, from a field at Tickford'a Fsrm, Ifield, Crawley :— a cheatnut Pony, about 12 hands high, mane and foielock cut short, and tail cut square, one knee has been chipped, and is a little swollen. Supposed by a man 26 yeara of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light com- plexion, light brown bair, no whiskers or moustache, medium build, pointed nose ; dressed in light tweed suit, much worn, old black hard felt hat, heavy lace- up boots, seen going as hard as he could to Kingswood, near Epsom. Information to Mr. Supt. L. B. Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, HORSHAM.— Bow- street, April 13. - Stolen from Ranton, between 8 p m. 25th and 7' 30 a. m. 26th ultimo :— a light- coloured mare Donkey, dark mane and noae, ahoulders rubbed with collar, turns near hind foot in on one side, in low condition. Information to Capt. Oswell, Deputy Chief Constable, STAFFORD.— Bonn- street, April 13. Wanted at Perth, under a Sherriff's warrant, charged with having on 15th ultimo, obtained a Horse and Dogcart, by false pretences :— JAMES STUAIIT, a private iu the Royal Highlanders ( Black Watch), stationed at Perth, native of Aberdeen, 26 years of age, 6 feet 11 inches high, fair hair, inclined to red, little or no whiskers, small fair moustache, conspicuous scar on chin, speaks with Scotch accent, smart soldier- like appearance, and is well educated ; dressed in the uniform of the regiment, and was wearing his ^ veatcoat; he enlisted at Newcastle- on- Tyne, on 2lst. November, 1882, and is now a deserter from his regiment. Description of the Horse and Dog- cart— a light brown 9 year old Horse, nearly 16 handa high, two white fetlocks, a little flit on near side, having once two ribs broken, wore a set of silver mounted harness, nearly new ; a 4- wheeled small sized Dog Cart, light weight, almost new, blue painted with white lines, blue fittings, top of dash- board silver plated, motto ' Follow me,' engraved on back, wheel caps stamped, aupposad ' Peddie. Kilmarnock,' also an ordinary carriage Whip ; horse Rug, and two waterproof Aprons. Police Officers are requested to make special search and enquiry for the accused, also for the Horse and Dog- cart, and if found to detain, and wire to the Subscriber. Supposed stolen on 2nd instant, five Horse1, entrusted to ft man at Manchester, to bring to Stoke- ou- Trent :— 1st a dark brown Horse, aged, 16i hands high, side bnne near fore foot, collar and saddle marks ; 2nd, daik brown Horse, aged, 16 hands high, long switch tail; 3rd, black Horse, aged, 15| hands high, crack in fore heels, heels trimmed ; 4th, bay Horse, clipped, half legged, aged, 15 hands high, crop tail, alight scar on off fore leg, drops on heel when walking ; 5th, brown aud white horse Pony, 4 years old, 12 hands high, two wall eyes. Man, name unknown, about 2<> yeara of ago, about 5 feet high, very dark complexion, broad features ; shabbily dresaed, dirty appearance, atterda fairs ; he left Longsight, near Manchester, with the Horses, ab > ut. 6 30 p. m. 2ud inst. Information to Mr. Supt. Bjwen, STOKE ON- TRENT.— Bow- street, April 9. Supposed stolen about two years ago :— a dark bay Male, at that time heavy with foal and in poor condition, about 10 years old, 14 hands 3 inches high, has a lump on the pastern joint of off foreleg, a white spot on forehead, and short switch tail. She was left with a farmer about two years ago, under very peculiar circumstances, and has remained in his possession ever since. Information to Mr. Supt. Fowler, PENRITH ; or at the County Chief Constable's Office, CARLISLE — Bow- street, April 9. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT JOSEPH REEVES, alias HAYNES, advertised in Police Gazette of 12th ultimo, charged with stealing Harness, at Muckley Corner, has been arrested at Stony Stratford, and committed to the Stafford Assizes, on the 23rd instant; he is a native of Hanalope, Buckinghamshire, but has lived in the potteries, at Lichfield, and other parts of Staffordshire, In- formation to Mr. Sept. Llackuey, BROWNHILLS, near Walsall. — Bow- street, April 13. Charged with stealing a black corded cloth Coat, with pockets on hips and one outside left breast, photograph of a man and three club earda in pockets :— a man, about 40 vrs. of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inchea high, medium build, fresh com- plexion, dark eyes, whiskers aud moustache cut short ,- dreaaed in cord trousers and vest, recently waahed, and blue pilot sack jacket. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, Police Office, WEST BROMWICH.— L oie- Stveet, April 13. Abacouded from Stourbridge on 3rd instant, charged on a warrant with embezzlement— EDWARD SEAGAR, a glass maker, and late secretary to the Stourbridge district of the National Flint Glass Maker's Friendly Society, he is about 44 years of age, 5 feet, 9 or 10 inchea high, atout build, fresh complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, daik whiskey and beard, cut rather short, slight dark moustache, very high forehead, large dent on bridge of noae, has a wound on one leg and walks rather stiff. He ia of respectable appearance, and generally dressed in darlr clothes. Information to Mr. Supt. John Wheeler, Police Office, STODRBUIDGE, Worcester- shire, who holds the warrant,— Bow- street, April 13. Wanted ou warrant, charged with embezzling ,£ 43, on 3rd January last :— HENRY aliaa LUKE WARNHAM, atud groom, abmt 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, swarthy complexion, pockpitted, blue eyes, light brown hair, aud propertionate figure ; dressed in a new light tweed suit, brown low crowned hard felt hat, knee breeches, cashmere leggings, aud white billycock hat. He absconded from Fletching on the 28tli January last; he travelled the county of Sussex last season with au entire hotae belonging to Sir Spencer Wilson, and previous to that was similarly employed by the proprietor of the ' Carlton Hotel,' Godstone, Surrey. Information to Mr. Supt. John Poerless, ULKFIELD, Sussex. — Bow- street, April 13. Description of JAMES HARRIS, engine cleaner, wanted ou warraut for embezzlement :— 28 years of age, 5 fevt 9 or 10 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, tliin face, light eyes, dark brown hair, chopped cloaf, pock- marked, stoops iu gait, and hands in pocket; dreased in dark tweed suit., flapped trousers, muffler round neck, billycock hat, aud tace- up shoes; fond of drink and loose cotnpinv. Information to Superintendent's Office, DONCASTER.— Bow- street, April 11. Absconded on 5th instant, charged with stealing 8 Watches, 5 lady's gold, Nos. 46S6, 8249, 9079, 23107, 37402, a lady's gold lever, ' Hunt and RoskeU'on works, 2 silver levers, Nos. 1935 and 24953 ; a Cheque for £ 10 oti Loudon and County Bank, drawn by J. Tusou, and £ 15 iu cash:— JAS. FRANCIS TURNER, a pawnbroker's assistant, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, red hair, parted IU centre, lost top front tootb, slightly freckled ; dresstd iu light dust overcoat, double- bieaated grey reefing jacket, black diagonal vest, brown ribbed cloth trousers, black felt hat ( oeiforated at top), carries a large brown stick. Likely to be found at race meetings. Warrant issued. In- formation to the Director of Criminal Investigations', GREAT1 SCOTLAND YARD, B. W.'-~ Metropolitan Police, April 11. Charged with stealiug eight Bank of EugUnd Notes, Nos. of four are 18175, 18176, 18177, 18179, aud £ 1 in Gold : — CHARLES CHANDLER, painter and paper hanger, native ot Croydon, abjut 35 yeara of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, dark whiskers aud moustache, noee turned up, and lost two front upper teeth ; dressed in a dark jacket, pockets at the side, light trousers and vest, black soft felt hat, and a new pair of elastic- side boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Keuimish, West Sussex Constabulary, PETWORTII, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, April 11. Absconded from Ipswich, on 4th instant, charged on a warrant, with embezzling £ 240 :— FREDERICK ALLEN, about 35 years of age, 6 leet 5 inches high, swarthy com- plexion, full flabby face, short neck, full eyes, small dark whiakers, thick dark moustache, stout build, weight about L3 stone, is in the habit of frequenting with betting meu, in whose company moat probably lie will be found, has a brother clerk to a betting man in London ( address not, known), was intimate with a female, named Jane Southgate, short fresh looking, about 30 > ears of age, who was formerly barmaid at, the Tiger's Head, Lewisham, Kent, and who is now believed to be keeping a respectable lodging- house about a mile from Lee Church. Information to II. R Russell, Lt- Col., Chief Constable, Town Hall, IPSWICH, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprthension. — Bow- ureet, April 11. Stolen at the Corporation Baths, Ashton- under- Lvne, on 7tli instant: — a gentleman's gold centie seconds slop Watch, No. 83145, had attached a gold Albert Chain, with gold Appendage, the stone of which is black on me side and white on the other side; also a black leather Purse, with elastic b ; nd, containing about £ 2 10s. in G'.- ld and Silver. By a 2 ' P O L I C E GAZETTE April 13 man about 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair,' fair complexion, no whiskers or moustache, proportionate make, gentlemanly appearance, and stated that he waa travelling for a tirm in Manchester ; dressed in a dark suit of clothes, aud dark ribbed overcoat, black billycock hat; is wanted at Bochdate and other places for similar offences. Information to Mr. George Dalgliesh, Chief Constable, ASHTON- UNDER- LYNE.— Bow- street, April 11. Stolen in Salford, Oxon, between 1st and 7th instant: — a grey tweed Jacket and Trousers ; a Waistcoat also grey but of a ditfeient shade to the jacket ; a pair of blue cloth trousers, without lining; a blue and white check window curtain ; a pair of scissors ; and an oilstone not set iu wood. By a man, about 57 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, walks witli a stooping gait; dressed in a snuff- coloured coat down to the kLees, with pockets in the sides, cord trousers, lace- up boots, one or both of which are cut in front, red aud black plaid neck- tie, a wheelwright by trade ; the stolen clothes are such as would be worn by a man of CO or 70 years of age. Information to Mr. Snpt. Cope, Police Station, CHIPPING NORTON, Oxon.— Bow- sireet, April 11. Stolen at Beverley, on 9th instaut :— a email silver lever Watch, No. 3601, maker ' Hawley, Coventry'. By a man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, pale com- plexion; dressed in blue or dark cloth clothiDg, black hard felt fiat-, red and white handkerchief round neck. Information to Mr. Supt. Knight, Guildhall, BEVERLEY, Yorks. — Bow- street, April 11. ^ Stolen from the Turkish Baths in Bolton, on 15th ult.: — a gentleman's gold Watch, with crest on the back, No. 47002, maker ' J. Hargreaves, Liverpool,' has the following inscription on the case inside ' Presented to the Rev. L. R. Ilearn, M. A, by the Teachers, Scholars, and Friends of St. Paul's Sunday Schools, Halliwell, December, 1878'; had attached a gold Albert Chain, curb pattern, broken in the centre and pieced with wire. Supposed by a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate make, light complexion, no whiskers, and small light mous- tache ; dressed in black worsted cloth knit, black billycock hat, and of resectable appearance; he is also wanted for similar offences at Rochdale, Manchester, and Oldham. In- formation to Mr. Holgate, Chief Constable, BOLTON.— Bow- street, April 11. Absconded on 25th ultimo, charged with stealing a number of new and second hand gold and silver Watches, Chains, Brooches, and other Jewellery, from Liverpool :— a working jeweller, named ROBERT SCHMIDT, a German, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, proportionate build, dark hair, thin light brown whiskers parted on chin, moustache, thi'i face, with a scar on left cheek, consumptive appearance, two club feet turned in at the toes, peculiar boots ; dressed in a dark cloth overcoat, black frock coat, dark trousers, and tall silk hat; had a satchel with strap over shoulder, and a portmanteau ; his father is a joiner, residing at " Baum, ia Germany. Enquire at pawnbrokers, shipping offices, and on boird outward bound vessels : if fonnd, arrest, or if traced, telegraph to Geo. Williams, Chief Supt,, LIVERPOOL. — Bow- strest, April 9. Wanted on a warrant, for robbing furnished lodgings, on 2nd instaut, pioperty recovered:— PEACHEY, about 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, very dark complexion, had beard and moustache, beard about 2 or 3 months growth, middle size, walks very forward, head down, shoemaker by trade. And his wife, very thin and short, thumb on one hand much larger than the other, very little nail on the large thumb ; generally wears a large white apron. Supposed to be wanted at Brighton and other places. Information to Mr. Supt. Hayes, WINDSOR, who holds a warrant.— Bow- streei, A pril 9. Absconded from Ipswich, on or about 30tli ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing a silver Watch, since recovered : — ALFRED HALL, a blacksmith or locksmith, about 40 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, has a few light coloured hairs on chin, the other portion of his face is shaved ; supposed dressed in black monkey jacket, which is turning sandy, light fustian trousers, and cap with peak and band ( which turns down all round) ; he states that he worked for his father, near Sudbury, until the end of last year, has travelled the country, and has a brother living in Lancashire; he also states that lie was imprisoned for 14 weeks, for fighting with a pewter pot, somewhere in London. Information to H. R. Russell, Lt.- Col, Chief Constable, Town Hal), IPSWICH, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Description of SAMUEL HUGHES, alias COOPER, a gipsy, and travelling sweep, charged on a warrant with stealing 44 live Pheasants, from a Pheasantry at Crichel, Dorset, on the night of 17th February, 1883: — he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sandy hair, small light mous- tache, blue staring eyes and freckled face ; he travels the country wiih his father Noah Hughes, alias Cooper, who has a horse aud van, and hawks tin ware aud brushes, and is well knownia Dorset!- hire. Information to Mr. Supt. H. Batty, Dorset Cciihtabulary, WIMBORNE.— Bow- street, April 9. Description of ALFRED SOMERTON, late of Clevedon, charged on warrant with stealing on 1st instant, at Clevedon, a gold Watch; a Writing Desk and other articles ( all re- covered) except a black vulcanite watch Chain, and a small carved white ivory handle pocket Knife, with both blades at one end :— he is 15 years of age, about 4 feet 8 or 9 ins. high, black hair, full black eyes, full face, fresh complexion; dressed in a dark tweed suit, anH a hard black bowler hat, lately worked at a butcher's shop in Bristol. Information to Mr. Supt. Drewett, FLAX BOBRTON, near Bristol, or to Sergeant Milbnin, CLEVEDON, Somersetshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Wanted at Boston, for stealing from the ' Rsd Lion' Hotel, on 7th instaut:— 4 Coats ( recovered), and a bunch of Keys, 9 fmall and 1 large, upon a fiat steel ling:— a man, 35 to 40 years of age. 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, full ruddy face and fairly good looking, dark brown hair and whiske. i- s down sides of face, proportionate built, has part of a finger off one hana ; dressed iu shabby fustian trousers, mended at pockets, fustian vtst, black stiff felt hat, red and black p'aid scarf, blue puemsev, black coat, woollen shirt with broad red stripe and a while flannel one underneath, strong laced boots, and a red g rth strap round waist. He stated he was a labourer and had been a soldier. He was last fieen in Boston, about noon on. 8th instant. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, BOSTON, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, April 9. Wanted at Doncaster on warrant for embezzlement:— a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender build, pale thin face, light eye?, dark brown hair chopped close, pockmarked, and stoops in gait with hands in pocket; dressed when la- t seen in dark tweed suit, flapped trousers, muffler round neck, billycock hat, and lace- up shoes ; engine | cleaner, native of Birmingham, and resided last at Don- caster. Fond of drink and loose company. Information to the Superintendent, Police Office, DONCASTER.— Bow- street, A pril 9. Stolen between 3let ultimo ai. d 2nd instant:— an Adze ; a Brace and thirteen Bits ; a Spirit Level, steel bottom and brass top ; a lj- inch Chisel ; a Jack Plane ; and a pair of Compasses.
