T> DUBLIN, TUESDAY, APRIL 3, 1883. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 1,000 REWARD. WHEREAS at 9 P. M. on Thursday evening, March 15th, an explosion was caused at the offices of the Local Government Board, in Charles- street, West- minster : And whereas explosive material was placed an hour previously in the vicinity of " The Times" Publishing Offioe, Queen Victoria- street, E. C., with like felonious intent : The above reward of £ 1,000 will be paid by the Secretary of State for the Home Department to any person not being a member of a Police Force in the United Kingdom who shall give such information, privnte or other- wise, as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the perpetrator of either outrage, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's most gracious pardon, in addition to tho payment of the said reward, to any accomplice not being the actual perpetrator of either outrage. A PROCLAMATION By the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland. SPENCER. Vt HKRKis by our Proclamation, dated the 9th May, 188!:, We offered a reward of Ten Thousand Pounds to any person or persons who should, within alimited timo therein specified, give such information as would lead to tho conviction of the Murderers of Lord Frederick Cavendish, tbe Chief Secretary, and Thomas Henry Burke, Esquire, the Under Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, on the 6th, May, 1882: And whereas the time therein specified for giving such information has expired : Now We, the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland, are pleased to renew the said offer, aud We do hereby offer a reward of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS STERLING to any person or persons who, within six months from the date hereof, shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of any of the Murderers : And a further reward of ...,., FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall, within the same period, lead to the same result: AND whoroas it is known that four perpetrators of these Murders escaped from the scene on an outside car which was driven away by a fifth person :. Now We are also pleased hereby to offer to any person concerned in or privy to these Murders ( not being one of the above- mentioned four Murderers) who shall, within throe months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of any one of the said four Murderers, a FREE PARDON and the special protection of the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions, in addition to a reward of FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS. ' And We are further pleased to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any such person concerned in or privy to these Murders, who shall, within the said last- mentioned period, give such private information as shall lead to the conviction of any one of the said four Murderers, or of any other person concerned in or privy to the Murders. AND We are further pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the identification of any person concerned in or privy to the Murders, or of the horse and car used on the occasion, such last- mentioned reward of Five Hundred Pounds to be paid upon the information being corroborated to Our satisfaction by other information in Our possession, even though no person should be made amenable to justice as a result thereof. And We hereby premise that every effort shall be made to insure that the name or names of any person or persons who may become entitled to any of the said rewards for private information shall not be disclosed or made public, and that the said reward shall be paid in any manner in which such person shall desire Any person having any information to give, may communicate it to the Assistant Under Secretary for Police and Crime, Dublin Castle, to the Superinten- dent of the Detective Department of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, Dublin Castle, or to any other Government official in Great Britain or Ireland. Given at Dublin Castle, this I Oth day of November, 1882. i DESCRIPTION of the four men, wanted for the murder of Lord F. Cavendish and Mr. Burke, the Chief and Under Secretaries for Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, on Saturday, 6th May, 1882, between 7 and 8 P. M.: 1. About 35 years old, stout make, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache recently clipped, so as to give a bristling appearance, narrow forehead, natural hollow or dinge on bridge of nose; wore a soft blaok jerry hat and dark clothes. 2. About 30 years, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache; brown faded coat, as if much exposed to sun, soft black jerry hat. 3. About 20 years, small dark moustache, no whiskers ; soft black hat and dark clothes. 4. About 3.0 years, sandy hair and moustache, beard on clyn; WQtej dark clothes and soft black hat. The freight cannttf be given of any, all being sitting on an outside car, driven by a man between 36 atid 40 yeflrs, red bloated face, with a few days' growth of beard on; dark or brown coat, supposed frieze, and low soft black hat. The horse was a bay or chestnut, of good action, and the car had either a dark green or a red panel. The men had the appearance of sailors or well- to- do artisans.— JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. Field, of Westmoreland streBt, in this city, was, on the evening'of'the 27th November instant, about six o'clock, at North Frederick- street, in this city, feloniously and malici- ously stabbed and wounded by some person or persons, who immediately afterwards got on an out- side car which was waiting in Hardwicke- street, and drove off rapidly through Hardwicke- place: Now, We, John Poyntz, Earl Spencer, Lord Lieutenant- General and General- Governor of Ire- land, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the offenders and their accomplices, hereby offer a reward of FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who, within three months from the date hereof, shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of the said offenders or their accomplices, or any of them. And a further reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall, within the said period, lead to the same result. And We hereby promise that every effort shall be made to insure that the name or names of any person or persons who may become entitled to the said reward for pi- ioate information shall not be disclosed or ruade public, and that the said reward shall be paid in any manner in which such person shall desire. Any person having any information to give, may communicate it to the Assistant Under Secretary for Police and Crime, Dublin Castle, to the Super- intendent of the Detective Department of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, Dublin Castle, or to any other Government official in Great Britain or Ireland. DESCRIPTION of Arthur Hagan, native of Drumkerin, who stands charged with having, on the 27th Febru- ary, 1883, in the barony of Armagh, parish of Armagh, violently assaulted one Richard Campbell, so as to endanger his life: 1— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard black hat, dark coat, gray trowsers and vest. And His Excellency is further pleased to offer A reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the identification of any person concerned in or privy to tho Murder, such last- mentioned reward of One Hundred Pounds to be paid upon the information being corroborated to His Excellency's satisfaction by other information in His Excellency's possession, even though no person should be made amenable to justioe as a result thereof. And His Excellency hereby promises that every effort shall be made to insure that the name or names of any person or persons who may become entitled to any of the said rewards for private information shall not be disclosed or mado public, and that the said reward shall be paid in any manner in whieh such person shall desire. Any person having information to give may com- municate it to R. D. Crotty, Esq., Resident Magis- trate at Ennistymon; to Owen Wynne, Esq., Sub- Inspoctor, Royal Irish Constabulary, at Ennistymon, or to any other Government Official in Great Britain or Ireland. DESCRIPTION' of Bridget Brew, native of Furroor, who stands charged with having, about twelve months ago, attempted to commit suicide, in the barony of Islands, parish of Clondegad:— High teeth, blue eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, red face, slender make, B feet 4 inches high, about 40 or 45 years of age, black hair; wore a black cloth cloak, blue or brown flannel dress. This woman is insane, and it is supposed sho is travelling through the country as a beggar since she left her own home on 22nd February, 1883. . Ennis, March 11,1883. ( 55831 c.— 87050 DESCRIPTION of James Kelly ( supposed fictitious) ( mother's surname O'Hara), native of Killasser, near Swinford, county Mayo, who stands charged with having, on the 1st March, 1883, in the barony of Tulla Upper, parish of Feakle, failed to give a satisfactory account of himself, and has been re- manded for eight days pending inquiries, as he may have committed somo crime :— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a low round hat, brown tweed frock coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest, military boots, marked North Hampshire, 934; also wore as drawers a military trowsers, marked 934, and a military shirt; is a stone mason. DESCRIPTION of a heifer, the property of Michael Callaghan, which was stolen from the lands of Forthgrady, parish of Dromtarriff, barony of Duhallow, on the 26th day of March, 1883 :— A yearling heifer, red and white colour, yellow stripe from forehead to neso; value for £ 5. DESCRIPTION of John Dwyer, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th March, 1883, in the barony of Barrymore, parish of Ardna- geehy, stolen a dark tweed frock coat, a pair of bellows- tongued boots, and a pair of gray worsted stockings, tho property of Thomas Phibbs, of Bridestown, in whose house he had lodged during two previous days s— Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 28 years of age, no beard or whiskers, soldierlike ; left a pair of old military boots marked G. Skelton, No. 311; supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes. Warrant issued. Fermoy, March 17, 1883. ( 55862 c.— 8765.) Down. DESCRIPTION of Robert William Murphy, native ef Ballynahinch, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd March, 1883, in the barony of Kinalarty, parish of Magheradroll, stolen two cows, the property of James Irwin, from his cow- house at Creevytenant, near Ballynahinch :— Has a mark of sore on left jaw from bite of an ass, dark eyes, dark complexion, round fata, ordinary make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a Scotch cap with peak, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; deals in paraffin oil. Downpatrick,. April 1, 1883. ( 56468 c.— 4926.) DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who is suspected with having, on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd instant^ in the barony of Kinalarty, parish of Magheradrool, stolen two cows, the property of James Irwin, from his cowhouse at Creevytenant:— Shaved face and brown moustache, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age; wore a brown cap and coat, white muffler and Cap on side of head ; appeared Hire 3 driver- Or townsman. Downpatrick, March 28, 1883. ( 56468 c.— 4866.) DESCRiL'TieN- oi. Patrick Doyle, native of Letallion, who left his father's house, at Letallion, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of kilcoo, on 23rd February, 1883, and has- not since been heard 6f, and it is, therefore, thought that he may have met with foul play:— Blue eyes, short nose, fresh com- plexion, plump face, stout make, 4 feet high, about 12 vearf. of age ; wore a black cap, dark tweed coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest, red and white " spotted handkerchief round his neck; is the son of a small farmer. Rathfriland, March 4, 1883. ( 56395 c.— 4726.) Galway. DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th June, 1882. WHEREAS at or about the hour of twenty minutes past three o'clock, P. M., on Thursday, the 8th June, instant, Walter M. Bourke, Esq., of Rahassane Park, Craughwell, in the county of Galway, and Corporal Wallace, of the Royal Dragoons, were shot dead on the road close to one of the gates of Castle Taylor Demesne, near Ardrahan, in the said county, by some person or persons at present unknown : His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of these Murders, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons, or any of them, who committed the said Murders. And a further reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. His Excellency is also pleased to offer in addition to the above rewards a FREE PARDON and the Special Protection of the Crown in any part of HerMnjesty's Dominions to any person concerned in, or privy to, the said Murders other than the person orpersons who actually committed the same, in case of his giving such information as shall lead to the con- viction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the Murders aforesaid. And whereas any person who knowingly receives into his or her house or otherwise harbours or maintains any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or conceals or aids any of them in escaping or endeavouring to escape from justice becomes liable to penal servitude for life : His Excellency is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the CONVICTION of any person who has so received, harboured, maintained, Or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from justice, or who shall receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from justice, any of the persons who committed the said Murders. By His Excellency's Command, R. G. C. HAMILTON. The" Hbove rewards will be paid, on conviction, by D. B. Franks, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Gort, to those who may become entitled to them under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Finnerty, native of Clough, who stands charged with having, on the 9th March, 1883, in the barony of Tiaquin, parish of Cloonkeen, while of unsound mind, attempted to assault his wife. He left his home about the 15tli jnst., was seen at Mountbellew, on the 18th inst., and it is believed he has met with some evil end. He had £ 30 in his pocket, and is much afraid of being poisoned:— Blue eyes, short pointed nose, fresh complexion, full broad face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 47 years of age, brown hair turning gray, small side whiskers, no moustaehe; wore a frieze Repeal coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a small farmer. ( 5g/ 66 c.— 6370.) * f * j ' DESCRIPTION of Thomas Cafferty, native of Athenry, who stands charged with having, on the 25th Feb- ruary, 1883, in tl# barony of Athenry, parish of Athenry, be in- J one of a party of four persons ( three of whom are in custody) who broken open a store, and stole a quantity of potatoes and soap therefrom :— Slovenly gait, large mouth, thick lips, gray eyes, large nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair; wore a round black hat, dark tgeed coat, tweed trowsers and vest,; is a tinker. DESCRIPTION of Jeremiah Sullivan, native of Reen, who stands charges with having, on the 17th day of March, 1883, in the barony of Dunkerron South, parish of Templenoe, feloniously stabbed one John Sullivan ( Blooman), with, a penknife, from the effects of whieh he died immediately:— Bald on top of head, two teeth out one side of mouth, moustache and light side whiskers turning' gtfy, blue eyes, broad nose, fair complexion, rough face and neck, medium make,. 5 fbet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer ( was in the militia). Will endeavour to go to England. Kenmare, March 20, 1883. ( 55889 c.— 8816. J * Timothy Sullivan ( assault by stabbing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 9th January, 1883. The man, name and native place unknown ( serious assault on a policeman), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 22nd December, 1882. John Kennedy ( robbery), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 30tli January, 1883. Kildare. DESCRIPTION of two head of cattle, the property of Joseph Lazemby, which were stolen out of his outhouse at Kilmeague, parish of Kilmeague, and barony of Connell, on the night of the 25th March, 1883, viz.:— 1. One- year- old heifer, with white face, and large white spots on the body and some red, not branded; value for £ 6 10s. 2. One- year- old bullock, all white exeept some red about the head and neck, not branded ; value for £ 6. Robertstown, March 30,1883. ( 57389 c.— 6605.) DESCRIPTION of Thomas Sex, NNRFT of Rickards town, who stands charged with having, on the 21st of March, 1883, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, failed to appear at Petty Sessions in accordance with his recognizance to answer a charge of larceny:— Fair complexion, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 47 years of* age, brown hair; wore an old jerry hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a small farmer. Kildare, March 23, 1883, ( 57348 c.— 6536.) DESCRIPTION of Myles Farrell, native of Allenwood, who stands charged with having, on tl x 13th day of March, 1883, in the barony of North Naas, parish o" Naas, assaulted Catherine Walshe:— Fair stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 20 year, of age, fair hair; wore a soft black hat, barragOT trowsers, and white sleeved vest; is likely to be foun near the turf market, Dublin ; is a labourer. ( 57332 c.— 6510.) \ r DESCRIPTION of Mathew Smith ( mother's surname Casey), native of Ballymore- Eustace, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of December, 1882, in the barony of South Naas, parish of Ballymore- Eustace, assaulted Mary Anne Mullally with intent to ravish:— Slightly freckled, smart active appearance, gray eyes, short nose, sallow com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 17 years of age, brown hair; wore a small black jerry hat, brownish coat, trowsers, and vest; is an assistant in blacksmith's forge. DESCRIPTION of William Tegan, native of Derry- oughter, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of March, 1883, in the barony of West Offaly, parish of Ballybracken, attempted to com- mit a rape on one Dorah Dowling:— High cheek bones, sallow complexion, smooth face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft hat and blue pilot overcoat; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a man, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of March, 1883, in the barony of Carbury, parish of Kilpatrick, met the post boy and threatened him if he brought any more letters to the people of Killina from Carbury :— Shaves all his face; dark complexion, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 30 years of age; wore a soft hat, brown tweed coat, and cord trowsers. Kilkenny. f**' DESCRIPTION of Thomas Watson, native of Ballina- sloe, who stanils charged with having, on the 17th day of March, 1883, in the borough of Kilkenny, parish of St. Canice, stolen an ass, cart, and harness, the property of John Nolan, of Ballyfoyle, out of a yard in Green- street, Kilkenny city. The ass, cart, and harness have been* recovered at Tullow, county Carlow, where Watson pawned the harness, sold the cart, and offered tho ass for 9ale. ( See Hue- and- Cry, dated 23rd March, 1883):— Tattooed anchor on back of right hand, has habit of shaking his head as if from constitutional causes, speaks hurriedly and in a grating voice, blue eyes, long nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 5 or G inches high, about 55 years of ago, gray hair, and short gray whiskers ; wore a hard jerry hat, short blue torn coat, and brown tweed trowsers broken on knees ; is a drover. , Kilkenny, March 29, 1883. ( 57345— G530.) Limerick. Patrick Moroney ( assault endangering life), has- been arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 20th ultimo. Thft four persons, names and native places; un- known ( serious assault), not arrested ; Hue- aud- Cry, 20 th February, 1883. Louth. DESCRIPTION of a man, name unknown, supposed native of Drogheda, who stands charged with having, on tho 19th day of March, 1883, at Collon, in the barony of Ferrard, parish of Collon, stolen a yearling bullock, tlie property of A. H. Wynne, Esq., J. P., which he sold to John Brady, of Newtown, and which has since been returned, to tho owner :- r- Gray eyes, regular noso, florid complexion, thin face, slight make, 4 foot 9 inches high, about 11 or 15 years of age, brown lmir; wore a black cap much worn, brown tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest, white muffler, and old elastic boots; te a cattle drover. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Keely ( mother's surname Fortescue), nativo of Knockacleeva. who stands charged with having, on the 16th December, 1882, in the barony of Drogheda, parish of St. Peter's, feloniously and maliciously set fire to the dwelling- house of one Patrick Boden, with intent to defraud " The West of ' England Fire and life Insurance Company" :— Gray eyes, long sallow complexion, thin face, slight, make, 5 feet S" inchcs high, about 20 years of age, brown hair; wore a black jerry hat, dark tweed frock coat, dark tweed trowserS-. and vest; is a grocer's shop assistant. Ho was bound by recognizance to appear and take his trial at Drogheda, at Drogheda Assizes, on 5th . March, 1883, but failed to do so. DESCRIPTION of Margaret Walsh, native of Tully, who left her home on 11th February, 1883, in the barony of Trough, parish of Donagh, and it is feared that she may have met with foul play:— Odd- looking, being a person of rather weak intellect, blue eyes, regular n* se, fair complexion, round fac<), medium make, 5 feet high, about 25 or 26 years of age, dark hair; wore a gray Ulster and a black hat with red feathers ; is a farmer's daughter. DESCRWIIOS of Edwurd Doocy and John M'Intyre, natives of Gortbrack, who stand charged with having, on the 15th March, 1883, in the barony of Erris, parish of Kilcomnion, seriously assaulted Peter Caulfield :— 1. flas fair side whiskers and fair moustache, blue or gray eyes, sharp pointed nose, pale complexion, regular face, very stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age; wore a soft black hat, blue frieze coat, plaid trowsers and vest; is a labourer. 2. Slovenly gait, bends forward when walking, gray eyes, slightly hooked nose, fuir complexion, regular face, very slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 24 years of age; wore a soft black hat, blue, frieze coat, plaid trowsers and vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Michael M'Namara ( mother's sur- name Caulfield', native of Coogue Middle, who stands charged on suspicion with having, on the night of the 23rd February, 1882, in the barony of Costello, parish of Bekan, being one of an armed party who entered the house of David Freely, of Brackloughboy, and murdered his son, Patrick Freely:— Clean face without any beard or whiskers, brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore a round hard hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. He was on bail to take his trial at Monaghan Spring Assizes, 1883, for an attempted rape:— Walks erect, smart appearance, good- looking; brown eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark brown hair, small dark whiskers and moustache; wore a tweed coat, cord trowscrs, and tweed vest; is a cattle dealer. DESCRIPTION of John Goff, native place unknown, who stands charged on remand until 21st instant with having, on the 6th March, 1883, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Boyle, assaulted and robbed one Patt Spellman of a purse containing £ 3 :— Delicate appearance, short cropped whiskers, gray eyes, thin nose, pale complexion, small face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 55 years of age, gray hair ; wore a round hard hat, light tweed coat, tweed trowsers, and cloth vest; pretends to be a horse dealer. DESCRIPTION of Garrett Burns, native place near Cahir, Maurice Harding, native of Ballygorteen, and Garrett Cussen, native of Rossadrehid, who stand charged with having, on the 2nd March, 1883, in the barony of Iffa and Offa west, parish of Temple- tenny, been three of an armed party who attacked the house of Denis O'Brien, of Kiltankin :— 1. Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regulur face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair, no whiskers ; wore a low jerry l » at, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. 2.
