Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that tn information should be made aud sworn to before a Magistrate, the Offence chargod, and an attested copy thereof, together with advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all l> etten » addressed to the Editor • unfit he prejiaid. otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and at Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by trie persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. Charged with forgery :— WILLI AMptOSS, of Sandford, Oxen, 19i years of ag", 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, blue eves, fresh complexion, scar on left hand, is a deserter from 6th Dragoons, Canterbury ; has in his possession a Cheque Book, Gillett and Co., bankers, Woodstock ; is passing cheques iu the name of Thomas Curm ; was seen in Hav- market, London, on 9th instant, dressed in a black suit of clothes. Information to Inspector Hawkiu, WOODSTOCK, Oxen.— Bow- street, March 16. Wanted on warrant, for forgeiy -.— JOHN HORTON, a clerk, 37 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light brown hair, moustache, aud side whiskers, chin shaved, light complexion, rather pale, slender build, sometimes wears spectacles, polite and gentlemanly in his manner and address, third finger on right band swollen and disfigured ; supposed to be wearing a dark pepper- and- salt coloured suit; he absconded on 3rd instant, aDd had with him a black leather poitmanteau and a hlack leather dressing case, aud is supposed to have a con- siderable amount of money in gold iu his possession. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by the Chief Constable of Man- chester, for such information as will lead to the apprehension of the said John Horton, aud 5 per cent, upon amount of moneys recovered, on behalf of the firm defrauded. Information to Mr. Supt. Denson, Police Station, AYI. ESBURY, or at the County Police Station, OXFORD.— Bow- itreet, March 14. Stolen from the person at Derby, on 8th instant:—- a Midland Railway Watch, heavy German silver cases, size 22, deep pillared movement,' Midland' on dial, may have ' Jno. Walker & Son, Cornhill, London' on dial, black hands, black figures,' W. & W.— 51 ' on back of outer case ( not recovered). By two meD and a woman, the woman, who has been appre- hended, gives the name of ROSE WOOD, alias GIPSY ROSE, and states she is a native of Horncastle ; one of the men is 29 years of ago, 5 feet inches high, sandy hair, fresh complexion, grey eyes, proportionate build, oval face, cast in right eye, scar on forehead ; dressed in brown clothes, and black billy hat, is a hawker, and native of Rochdale ; the other about 25 years of age, full round face, dark complexion, dark moustache, has a dimple on chin ; they loth left Derby about 8 a. m. on 9th instant. Stolen between 14th and 15th instant, f- oru the workshop of the Philanthropic Farm School, Red hill, Surrey, by means of breaking into the shop:— three hair whitewash Brushes, nearly new, one of them has been split through the handle, and a piece of ZIDC has been tacked ou each side of the rod of the handle. Supposed by tramps. Information to Mr. Supt. Rogers, REDHILL.— Bow- street, March 16. Further information of housebreaking at East Griustead on 4th instant :— the gold Albert Chaiu has beeu found, sold at Aldershot on 6th instant, by GEORGE TURNER, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, very sullen and evil- looking, very lark hair, small nioustacha, small side whiskers, medium figure, and walkB very erect: dressed in blue pilot coat, cord trousers with flap fronts, cord vest, rather high crowned felt hat, and bad boots, supposed cut down fronts to ease toes ; stated he was a pensioner from the Guards in receipt of 2j. 3d. a- day, and that his late brother was schoolmaster in 23rd Foot. Was employed a few days on the East Grinstead new liues, but left on the day of the robbery. Information to Major Ruxford, Chief Constable, LEWES, or to Mr. Supt. Berry, EAST GRINSTEAD, Sussex, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, March 16. Stolen by means of office breaking, between 10 p m. 9th and 6 am. 10th instant, from the Post Office at Bretton, West:— about £ 18 7s. in gold, silver, and copper coins ; about 30s. in Postage Stamps of various values ; a canvas Bag ; and a 1 lb. packet of Tobacco made up in ounces, each ounce marked ' Bishop Blaze'. Information to William Hall, Supt. WAKEFIELD.— Bow- street, March 14. Stolen between 8 pm. 12th and 8 a. m. 13th instant, from the pawnshop of Mr. Henry A. Sissliug, Church- street, Chesterton :— ablick worsted cloth Sac Coat, three oeams up back and pockets on hips, little worn ; and a pair of black worsted cloth Trousers, size 34 inches round waist, little worn. E- itrance effected by breaking a pane of glass in the shop window. Information to Mr. Supt. Hall, TUNSTAIL, or to Sergeant Locker, CHESTERTON, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 14. During the night of 7th instant, the School- house at Mitton was entered and stolen therein : — a new pair of dark grey tweed Trousers, fall fronts, lined with white serge ; a do. Vest, lined with white serge arid navy blue jean back ; a black serge frock Coat, far worn, lined with white serge, covered buttons; a white pocket Handkerchief and black Necktie were in the pockets ; a fine black Overcoat, lined with dark lining ; a pair of old black cloth Trousers ; an old blaok cloth Vest ; a black billycock Hat ; and a pair of Blucher Shoes, No. 8, with three lace holes. The thief will be weariug a portion of the stolen property, as he left behind a suit of old ragged clothes, such as worn by tramps. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Nash, Esq., The Noak, Martley :— a quantity of old gild and silver Coins, consisting of 2 Queen Anne and several King George Guineas ; several 5s. pieces, date 1720 ; Half- crowns, Shillings and Sixpences, different dates, all old, some much bent, also about 3s. iu Coppers, recent dates. Stolen by means of housebreaking, on 4th instant, in East Grinstend :— a lady's gold Albert Chain, Ls carat, snake pattern ; a large gold oval Locket, with a horse- shoe in high relief ; a chased Locket, ou one side a cross made with golden balls, 18 carat, two likenesses, males; a gold Locket, with enamelled stripe lengthwise ; a pearl Brooch, box and hair ; an amethyst Brooch, box and hair, and name ' Margaret Marot'; a pair of garnet Ear- rings, sot in gold; gold Ear- wires, small gold rings; a gold Toothpick, set, with turquoises; ;> small gold Sea), white stone ; a gold Tambourine ; a gold Fiddle; a gold double Swivel for watch- chairi ; two gold Clasps; a gold Watch Key ; an old wording Ring, a, posy, ' Let virtue rest within thy heart' ou the inside; filagree Biooch Mid Ear- ringi, not solid gold. £ 10 leward will be paid by Supt. The three Ponies, advertised in Police Gazette of 14th instant, as stolen from Baliaillon, Kerry, about a month ago, have been found straying and restored to the owner.— Bow- sreett, March 16. Stolen from a fi'- ld at Eggbury, St. Marybourne, Andover, Hants, on the night of 6th instant:— one Hampshire Down Teg, in good condition, long wool, if marked, a small dot on near pit. Found at Clifton Reynes, on 7th inst. :— a black Gelding, about 14 hands high, very old and poor, coat very rough, tail cut, and no shoes on hind fe'et. Description of ALFRED STEVENSON, charged on a warrant, with stealing a roan cart Mare, since recovered, from Swainnlhorpe, on 9th November, 1882 :— he is 32 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light complexion, short whiskers aiid moustache, rather round shouldered ; generally wears a light mixed suit.: supposed to be in the employment of one of the Tram Ca » - Companies, in Loudon, as conductor. SAUNDERS, a potter, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers and moustache, Blight build, long thin face ; dressed in dark cloth coat, cord trousers, and black round hard felt hat; has been in the Metropolitan Police. Stolen at Penkridge, between 9th and 12th instant:— a pair of Trousers, grey And black atiiped cloth, to fit a youth about 18, much worn about the bottoms, hive been reseated and repaired in the fork. C,— Bow- sirett., March 16. Supposed by a tramping labourer, about 30 years of age. 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, sandy or light hair, little or no whiskers. Stolen at Warrington ou 6th instant:— a gentleman's dark brown plaid Coat and Vest ; and a pair of Scotch tweed Trousers, speckled with white, to fit a man 6 feet 3 iuches high ; a white flowered silK Pocket- handkerchief ; and a hlack leather Cigar Case. By a mad, DONALD STEWART, also wanted at Lverls aud Dpwsbnry under names of JOHN WADE, JOHN WAITE, ME. Description of JOSEPH REEVES, late of LicliSeld, labourer or gardner, charged on warrant, with stealing on the 12th ultimo, a set of horse Harness ( recovered): — 49 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, grey hair, brown eyes and very heavy eyebrows, stout build, full face, long whiskers and moustache, turning grey, has a very peculiar ringing iu his voice, native of Northampton ; dressed in dark blue pilot j acket, dark blue cloth vest aud trousers, i> ud hard black muller hat, is of respectable appearance, sometimes he wears a high silk hat, and suit of grey tweed ; he has relations in Northampton, and at Longton, and is well known in the potteries; he is in the habit tf calling on clergymen, and stating that he is a great advocate of temperance. Cd.) :— HENRY SHEPPERSON. alias JOHNSON, a native of Nottingham, but late of Pawlish, Devon, carrier, has worked as stoker at gasworks, 33 years of agf, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, fair complexion, and brown eyes ; dreBsed in a snuff- coloured cloth coat and vest, dark cord trousers, repaired at the bottom, hard round poll hat, and lace- up boots ; has served 12 years in 70th Regiment and Army Reserve. Absconded from Bwrslem, charged with stealing a pair of man's strong lace- up Boots, nailed, size 8, on 10th instant ( not recovered) :— a man, about 25 or 2( 3 years of age, 5 feet ( 5 or 7 inches high, dark complexion ; dressed in black hat and [ dark coloured clothes. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, BURSLEM. - Bow- street, March 12. Stolen from the cabin of the barque ' Gartmorn,' lying in Weymouth Harbour, between 12 on 10th, and 6 a. m. on llth instant:— a Jong black Overcoat, two outside pockets iu skirt, one outside breast picket, and two inside, lined with black liniDg, which is broken under the arms, a split in the back seam about 6 inches long ; a gold lever Watch, a piece of black beaded Ribbon for a guard ; a silver keyless Geneva Watch, No. believed to be 50146. By a tramp, about 25 yrs. of age, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, lijht complexion, and light hair, cut short, appears to have been a soldier ; dressed in stolen coat, light diab trousers, old elastic- sided boots, aud black soft felt hat, had a white scarf around neck ; this man was begging in public- bouses during the evening ; he left his own coat, light drab cloth, in the cabin of the ship. Description of CHARLES HENRY NETTLETON, charged on warrant with stealing China :— he is 24 years of age, 6 feet 3} inches high, dark brown hair, small dark mous- tache, little side whiskers, fresh complexion, and is supposed to have a scrofula mark on neck, medium build ; dressed in dark clothes, of smart appearance, well educated. Informa- tion to Chief Inspector Nortcliff, Detective Department, Town Hall, LEEI. S.— Bmv- street, March 9. Description of JAMES SNELL, wanted on warrant, charged with stealing, on 1st instant, 10 Fowls ( recovered) in Westham :— he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, and rather long neck, hazjl eye?, dark hair, full dark leard and whiskers, propor- tionate figure, has a rolling gait when walking, late of WiliingdoD, near Eastbourne, and a labourer; supposed dressed iu an old monkey jacket, tweed trousers and vest, black felt hat, or cap with peak and tassel on top. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Win. Waghorn, Deputy Chief Constable, HAILSIIAM, Suss ex.— Bow- street, March 9. Wanted on warrant for stealing on 24th ultimo, a silver Watch and a jet and gold Necklace appendage, aud au open face silver Watch, Saee very much scratched about :— FREDERICK ALB^ ERFRED. alias DERICK WOODMAN, about 21 years of age, about 5 fees 10 inches high, very dark complexion, black hair, eyes and moustache ; dressed iu a dark brown suit, rather rough material, hard, felt hat, turn down collar, brown necktie and elastic side boots. Has been a soldier, aud supposed now belongs to the reserve, his father resides at Knock holt, Kent. Information to Mr. A. Barnes, Supt., K. C. C., TUNBRIDQE,- Bo> i>- s'- reet, Ma ch 9. Wanted at Stourbridge on a charge of embezzlement:— WILLIAM HENRY SCOTT, late manager to a wine and spirit merchant in Stourbridge, who absconded on or about 14th ultimo; he is about 45 yearn of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, clean shaved, light brown hair, light grey tyes, proportionate build, a little bow- legged, a nervous and shaky appearance from excessive drinking, is very quiet when iu company, and is fond of horse- racing and betting ; generally dressed in a Iocs? jacket, ami black hard felt hat. Information to Mr. & upt. Wheeler, Police Station, STOURBRIDGE, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehenfion.— Bow- street, March 9. Description of WILLIAM TGETFORD, wanted, charged on warrant with stealing at BEES. T0N REGIS on 26th ultimo, a silver English lever Watch since found pledged :— he is about 24 yea- s of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, lather stout build, roui:< l shouldered, carries his head a little on one side, and has a slouching walk, small moustache and whiskers inclined to be sandy, is a painter, and belongs to Norwich, he is very quiet and reserved, seldom speaks to his fellow workmen, except when spoken to ; dres » ed lua long dark overcoat, grey mixed suit, low black hard hat, elastic side boots and kid gloves. Information to Inspector Caton, Police Station, HOLT, Notfolk, or Sergeant R; x, County Police Station, NORWICH.— lino- tmet, March 9. Stolen in Boston, on 3rd instant:— about 40 stonemason's lettering Tools, from 6 to 8 inches long, some have two crosses filed in them which extend from one side to the other, nome have the broad airow mark, and the remaining two or three have three slanting tile marks across them ; also a 2- foot box Rale, with a small deut on the figure ; and a 4 lb. Hammer, one end square, with a piece chipped out, and the other smaller. Supposed by a tramping inasou, a cockney, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, and full beard ; dressed in a brown or gr « y suit, long overcoat, and black billycock ; and has a respectable appear- appearance. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, BOSTON, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 9.
