The Names of Persons charqed with Offences ID ho are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possibly cf Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 6882 FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1883. Notice.— It U requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in referenoe to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name ie given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attosted copy thereof, togother with the advertisement, forwarded to tho Editor for insertion. Al no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor UIMt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be mads. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ol Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Oflloe Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in ths POLICE GAZETTE. A^' ertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 2nd instant, the dead body of a female Child was found in a water closet at Belle Vue Gardens, the child appears to have been dead about C weeks. At the coroner's inquest tlie jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown. Information to County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester.— Lou- street, February 7. FORGERY. Wanted on a charge of passing a forged Bank of ENG- land Note for £ 5, on 20th ultimo :— a. man, about 40 years of • age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, dark hair, cut short, heavy dark moustache, but no whiskers, spoke with a foreign accent, endorsed the note • G. Longden,' • supposed to be the same, man who passed similar notes in Nottingham, in April 1881. The note is numbered 30013, and dated 14th March, 1882. Information to H. Keenan, Chief Constable, NORTHAMPTON.— Bow- street, Fobruary 6. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in Hinckley, between G aud 8 p. m. on 4th instaut:— a silver Geneva Watch; a gold plated Brooch, with red cornelian atone; a gold plated keeper Ring, with led stone; a gold plated keeper Ring, with green and white stones; and two common keeper Rings. A jemmy, 14 inches long, and } inch wide, and a piece of wax candle, wrapped in a piece of the Birmingham Daily Mail, for 23rd, 1882, were left behind. I nformation to Mr. Supt. Chapman, HINCKLEY.— Bmo- ateet, February 7. Stolen at Peterborough, on 2nd instant:— a man's Ulster, grey Tough material, minus the band, dark bone or wood buttons ; a black cloth Vest, no collar ; an old rusty colour V". doth Coat; a pair of new cloth Trousers, grey plaid or square V" pattern, brass buttons, 1ms name ' W. Gaunt, Peterborough,' on them ; a black silk Neckerchief, a square ; a red and white silk Pocket- handkerchief ; a small brown leather Porraanteau, has on a label, ' Boulogne'. By a stout man, about 40 or 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches to G feet high, pale complexion, rather full face, dark eyes, hair and whiskers, the latter very thin, slight moustache j was wearing a brown hard felt hat, dark coat, blue vest, spring side Chelsea boots, black necktie, and paper collar. Tho thief may be wearing the Ulster and Trousers, as the thief is about same she as the person robbed ; sitated he was a money lender; had a tin box, about 18 ins. by 12, covered with canvas; has in his possession 2 pawn- tickets— a frock Coat, pledged at Marshall's, Peterborough, ou 2nd instant, for 2s. 9d., Wilson, Spread Eagle ; the other, lor a frock Coat and a pair of . laced Boots, Jenkins, Stamford Street,. London, for 7s. 6d., pledged at Morley's, Peterboro'. Information to James Hurst, Head Constable, PETERBORO'. - Bow street, February 5. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 18th and 25th ultimo, at Eastville :— an old silver Geneva Watch, enamel face, minute hand missing; two Overcoats, men's size, one dark green melton cloth ( throe pockets and a small ticket do., with dark buttons), the other a black rib fancy cloth ( two pockets on skirt behind, with black cloth buttons; a fancy cloth Vest, black ground, red and amber flowers ; and a small silver pocket Fruit Knife, pearl handle. Information to Mr. Supt. Matthews, Police Station, FISHPONDS, or to Sergeant Morley, EASTVILLE, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, February 2. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Found in possession of a man, CHARLES NICOLE remanded until 15th instant, charged on suspicion of stealing the same :— a brown horse Pony, 5 years old, 13 hands 1 in. high, white Btar on forehead, tail cut, in good condition, and has a rough coat, as if it h* d turned out. Nicoll is 32 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slender brild, no whiskers or moustache, blotched face; dressed in dark gray tweed suit and brown hat. Ho refuses to give any account of himself. Information to W. A. Delecombe, Lt.- col., Chief Constable, DERBY.— Bow- street, fiebiua y 9. Stolen during the night of 27th ultimo, from a field on the Rowley Road, Dudley :— a black horse Colt, rising 4 years old, about 14J hands high, star on forehead, and one hind fetlock white; also a chestnut mare Pony, aged, about 13 hands high. Supposed by a man who went through Wolver- haraption on the morning of 2nd instant, with the two stolen horses. He is about 30 years of age, about fi feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, clean shaved, brown hair, and stout build ; dressed in grey tweed jacket, tight fitting grey trousers, and hard black billycock hat. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Burton, Central Police Office, DUDLEY, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, February 9. Stol. n on 29th ultimo:— a dark bay Horse, aged, 15 hands, star on forehead, near hind foot, off fore foot, and fetlocks white, switch tail, in good condition, carries his head erect when trotting, value .£ 12. Information to Mr. Supt McHugo, Metropolitan Police, Blackheath- road, GREENWICH, 8. E.— Metropolitan Police, February 7. Obtained by falsti pretences in Sheffield, on 26th December last:— a bay Mare, 4 years'old, 144 hands high, has a small bit of white on off hind foot, a small star on fore- head, a saddle mark on back, a piece off one ear. and was in good condition. By a man named GEO. HOLEHOUSE, a horse- dealer, about 42 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresh complexion, thin build, rather long features, dark sandy liair, whiskers, and moustache, if not shaved off; is well known in Manchester and other towns in Lancashire, and has been convicted for a similar offence at Wigan. Information to Mr. J. Jackson, Chief Constable, SHEFFIELD, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Low- street, February 5. Stolen during the night of 30th or morning of 31st ult., from the farm yard at White Hall, Bishops Stortford:— a large black cart Mare, 10 hinds high, in good condition, has one shoe off near forefoot, 7 years old, with tail touching the ground. Also stolen from the stable at the same time : — a horse's leather Collar, lined with striped lining, nearly new. Supposed by three men,— lst, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and eyes, black whiskers aide of face, and no moustache; dressed in dark waistcoat, dark trousers, and blsck felt hat. 2nd, 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inclie « high, slight build, pale complexion ; dressed in dark overcoat, and wearing a soft wide- a- wake liat. 3rd, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fcir complexion, sandy whiskers on side of face; dressed in dark overcoat, hard black felt hat. Had with them in the town of Bishops Stort- ford a brown Cob, about 14 hands high, and a light spring Cart with dark coloured paint. They left Stortford at 8 p. m. ; the Mare was traced from the farm across three fields into the high road, and the track of Horse and Cart and stolen Mare traced on the high road to Hertford and London, The three men in question are suppesed to be the same men who stole a Colt at Marlow, Bucks, on Gth ultimo. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT JOSEPH EARDLEY, advertised in Police Gazette of 7th instant, as being wanted at Burslem, has been apprehended. — Bow- ttreet, February 9. Description of JOHN THOS. STANDSTRIGHT, alias STANDHOPE, alias WILSON, chimneysweep, wanted on warrant, charged with stealing between 3 and 4 a. m. 5th inst., at Oastleford, an 8- cane rod Sweeping Machine Brush, band Brush, and flannel Sheet, about 19 years of age, about 5 feet high, light complexion, light blue eyes, light brown hair, rather stout build, cut across forehead ; dressed as a sweep, and had with him a pair of light cord trousers, blue cloth vest, and cloth cap ;* iie came out of the Industrial School at Leeds, has worked for a chimney sweep at Bradford. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, POXTEFRACT, Yorkshire.— Sow- street, February 9. Absconded from Portsmouth, on lst instant, charged with embezzlement:— JOHN HENRY COUSINS, about. 33 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, brown bair, small whiskers and moustache, shaved under chin, fresh complexion, dimple on chin, stout build, round shouldered, carries his head slightly forward, and speaks and walks quickly ; dressed in brown felt hat, brown overcoat, single- breasted black diagonal cloth undercoat, dark grey trousers, and lace up boots with thick soles. Is a grocer, and has recently been traveller to a biscuit manufacturer. Information to Chief Constable Cosser, Central Police Station, PORTSMOUTH, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Feb. 9. Absconded from Portsmouth, since 2nd instant, charged with embezzlement .-— PHILIP MOTT, about 37 yrs. of age, 5 feet G or 7 inches high, brown hair, fair complexion, small moustache and whisk? rs at sides, chin and throat clean shaved ; dressed in black felt hat, and brown check suit ; is of respectable appearance and good address. Has been a brewer's traveller. Information to Chief Constable Cosser, PORTSMOUTH, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 9. Charged on warrant with larceny as bailee :— DANIEL EDWARDS, 60 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin features, fresh complexion, grey hair and whiskers, shaved under chin, no moustache, grey eyes, stoops a little when walking, and slightly deaf ; dressed in dark jacket, straight back, dark vest, pepper- and- salt coloured trousers, light coloured soft tweed hat, carries a basket with cord attached and generally a long walking stick ; states he is a gardener, and has geen employed a Exeter Hall, Shropshire; calls cn clergy m< li and gardeners for relief, represents he has been engaged - v some one in the neighbourhood, but from the weather and some other cause he has been unable'to com- mence v> ork; stops at, common lodging- houses. Wanted on a warrant, charged with stealing a Suit of Clothes Hardway, Gosport, on ,*! rd instant ( recovered) :— JOhn KETTLeband labourer, ": ... . <: ge, 6 fwt 9 inches high, dark browr. fcair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, little or no whiskers, slight moustache, marks— cup marks cn breast, scar left arm, left knee, right thigh and right hand, and rather round shouldered ; was born at Barrow- on- Soar ; has served in the Royal Artillery, aud has been three times convicted of larceny; dressed in a light or drab colour jacket, pockets at sides, corduroy trousers, round hard blsck felt hjit, and side- spring boots. Information to Inspector Clatchlove, Hants Constabulary, GOSPORT. — Bow- street, February 7. Absconded from Bloxham, Oxon, on 29th ultimo, charged on warrant with stealing 3 Sheets, 1 Blanket, 1 Shirt, 1 Vest, and £ Z iu Money, from a dwelling- house CHAS. TUCK, a labourer, 30 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, fair com- plexion, small brown mark on one cheek, aud tattooed with anchor on one hand ; dressed iu black pilot jacket, cord vest, moleskin trousers, black soft billy hat, and heavy nailed boots. He is accompanied by Sarah Manning, wife of Geo. Manning, prosecutor, about 13 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches higl, round face ; dressed in black jacket, trimmed with black fur, small red shawl, and black hat, turned lip on one side, trimmed, with black and white lace and a wreath of cherries. They both took tickets at Banbury for Cardiff on 29th ultimo, and passed as man and wife. Tuck will most likely s? ek employ- ment on the railway as a navvy. Information to Mr. Supt. Wyatt, County Police Station, BANBURY, v< ho holds a warrant for his arrest.— Eow- street, February 7. Stolen between 6 p. m. 30th and 11 a. m. ou 31st ultimo, from the barge ' Charlie,' lying at Kemsley Dock, Milton a large red Scotch plaid Scarf, a blue striped cotton Shirt, a red Pocket- handkerchief, a pair of heavy laced Boots, right one has a patch on side, recently soled, and a white Pocket- handkerchief. Wanted on warrant for the above :— DANIEL HEATHF1ELD, alias MACKNER, 19 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, no whiskers or moustache dressed in black pilot jacket, black cloth cap with peak of same material, and dirty moleskin trousers. And GEORGE GIRDLESTONE, 21 years of f. ge, 5 feet 5 or G inclitM high, stout build, fresh complexion, red hair, slight moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in canvas jumper with blue collar, dirty moleskin tronsers, aLd cloth cap with peak. Committed for trial on 2nd April next, for stealing the property named in Police Gazette of 2nd instaut :— CHAS. KNILL, 20 years of age, G feet high, dark com- plexion, dark brown hair and eyes, several teeth missing in uppar jaw, long neck, small round head, a native of London, and a clerk; respectably dressed in dark clothes, a high stand up collar meeting under the chin, and hard black felt hat with broadisk brim, and carried a suiall black leather bag. And RICHARD CONYER, 19 years of age, 5 feet 9 ins. high, dark complexion and e^ es, heavy eyebrows, meeting, a uative of Leather Lane, London, a costermoiger and general , ler ; respectably dressed in dark clothes. stayed at a Temperance Hotel, and are well known to Metropolitan ' Police, Bow Street. Stated iliat he was a detective from Loughborough, also that lie was a butcher and that he camo from Tamworth, also that he came from Kettering; dressed in black corded coat and veit, dark brown plaid trousers, black hard billy hat, blue plaid necktie, and lace- up boots, nearly new, with brass eyelets and toe- capped. Left Hinckley on 5th instant, by 7' 17 p. m. train for Bir- mingham. Information to Mr. Supt. Chapman, HINCKLEY, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, February 7. Stolen at Longeight, between 11 a. m. and 10 p. m 2nd instant :— an old black worsted cloth Coat, two pockets behind in skirts, aud pocket outside left breast, lined with black ltnlian cloth, very far worn; an old wooden Chair, rouud back with three rails in it; and an ordinary paraffin oil lamp, with china cistern. Supposed by a man who lodged at the house and left about 3 p. m. 2nd instant,, about 33 years of age, 6 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion; dressed in the stolen coat, black cloth trousers, clogs and billycock hat, is agardeuer and belongs to Rusholme. Information to County Police Office, OLD TrAFFORD, Manchester.— Bow- street, Feb. 7. Wanted on warrant, charged with larceny by bailee, on October 6th, 1882, of a double- cased silver lever Watch, No. 34901, maker James Thatcher, Wantage :— JOHN POPE, a travelling watch and clock cleaner, 40 years of age, 5 ft. 5 ins. high, daik hair and complexion, and clean face; has a wife aud family living in Cheltenham ; ho is well known in the villages bordering the county of Gloucester. Wanted on a charge of stealing, about 20th ultimo, a lady's Ulster ( recovered), a tramping woman, 40 years of age, 5 feet Web, dark hair, fresh complexion, brown eyes, abscess 01 left cheek, back of each ear, aud under chin ; dressed in a black bonnet, short black jacket, trimmed with black fur, fitting tight to the body, old faded skirt, and bad boots. HartelL' Supposed by a, man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, flesh complexion, snndy hair, slight whiskers and moustache, and wore a brown coat. ( not recovered), from a dwelling- house at Charlotte- row, Ellesmere ( see Police Gazette of 23rd December last):— HUGH WHITBY alias NIXON, about 32 yy. of age, about 5 ft. 4 ins. high, stout build, very round face, fljah com- plexion, dark brown whisker » wind face; dressed m stolen jacket and boots, dirty moleskin jacket and vest, black billy- CoCk hat; he is a native of Dunham- on- the- Hill, Cheshire, and has been convicted for drunkenness at Malpas, Farndon, and Runcorn, nia wife nnd family, and also his father, William Whitby, are now residing at St. Helen's, Lancashire, where the latter was formerly employed at the Gasworks. Has travelled with George Paine's mechanical show, and may be found with a travelling show. Information to Mr. Supt. Hall, Police Station, TUNSTALL, Stoke- on- Trent - Bow- street, February 6. Wanted in the borough of Kendal, on a charge of stealing £ 6 1< M. on the 30th or 3lst ultimo:— ALEXANDER STARKEY, a grocer's porter, has a pedlars certificate grunted ut Kendal ou 3rrl November last, lie is about 20 or 21 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, ftwanhy complexion, propor- tionate build, dark brown hair, a little . hair on face, rather sandy ; dressed in a bin* cloth overcoat, with belt, black felt bat, and lact-> p boots. He posted a letter at Nottingham on 31st ultimo, addressed to Kendal, the letter did not contain any address, but the envelope boro the Station Street post- mark thereon. He left Kendal on the morning of 31et ult,, arid had a brown piper parcel with him. Information to Thomas Cotton, Chief Constable, KendAl, who holds a war- rant for his ariest.— Bnw- street, February 6. Description of ENOS STEVENS, a clerk and collector, wanted at Birmingham, charged under a warrant with embezzling various HIIIUM of Money, belonging to Messrs. Cardall and Sons, coal and timber merchants :— he is 67 years ol * g « , 5ftet Cinches high, thin build, grey hair and whiskers, round shoulders, tmd turns out his feet when walking; drvssed in a black coat with velvet collar and billyjoek hat. Information to Mr. Holgate, Chief Constable, BOLTON, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, February 5. beard or moustache, fresh completion, and good teeth; dressed in a fashionable d ® c checked tweed jacket suit, and round felt hat; may be Wearing a dark grey Ulster ; resided with his father, at a Lyndoch Street West, Glasgow; absconded with the £ u> ney. which consisted of 184 Pound Notes of the Bank of T^^ UIRI, £ 20 in Sovereigns, and 15/ 10 in Silver and Bronze iBfuey. He is given to playing at billiards, and may be found in loose company. It is believed that he intends to leave the country. Police officers are requested to make careful search and inquiry for accused at Shipping Offices, Hotels, Billiard Rooms, tc,, and fif found to have nim arrested. Information to A.
