The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are knoxcn but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. O. %• Whenever it il desired that any person ihould be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it ii indispensably necessary that an information should be made and iworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence oharged, and an attested oopy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Ai no charge ii made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letter* addressed to the Editor on nut be prepaid, otherwise the iniertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserter! from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Formi 68 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for iniertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. ><' » rrtisementi offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. Stolen from the person in Bolton, on 22nd instant:— a gentleman's gold lever Watch with open face, white dial, centre seconds, funnel glass, dome case, far worn, and num- bered 80,079. A reward of £ i will be paid by the owner for information leading to tho apprehension and conviction of the thief o- thieves and recovery of the Watch. Information to Mr. Holgate, Chief Constable, BOLTON.— Bow street, Jan. 20. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stoleu by means of housebreaking, between 18th and 25th ultimo, at Eastville :—- an old silver Geneva Watch, enamel face, minute hand missing ; two Overcoats, men's size, one dark green melton cloth ( three pockets and a small ticket do., with dark buttons), the other a black rib fancy cloth ( two pockets on skirt behind, with black cloth buttons; a fancy cloth Vest, black ground, red and amber flowers ; and a small silver pocket Fruit Knife, pearl handle. Information to Mr. Supt. Matthews, Police Station, FISHPONDS, or to Sergeant Morley, EASTVILLE, Gloucestershire.— Brno- street, February 2. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Northfleld, between 1 and 7 a m. on 30th instant:— four electro- plated fish Knives and Prongs; live electro- plated napkin Rings ; twelve tea Spoons, nickel gilt; a pair of fish Carvers, knotted ivory handles ; a cut glass claret Jug, silver lid and mount; a punch Ladle, silver bowl, and whalebone handle ; n brown silk Umbiella, dark handle ; a brown rough cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, black striped lining, pockets on hips, and out- side breast pocket. Stolen by means ' of housebreaking at Leatherhead, on 23rd instaul :— an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, with steel Chain attached, case much worn, and has a small hole in it, maker's name supposed ' Thomas, London'. Supposed by two men:— one about 35 years of age, 6 ft. 10 ins. high, dark com- plexion ; dressed in black pilot jacket, cord trousers, and soft black hat; the other about 24 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, full face, and has a few whiskers; dressed in a grey tweed jacket, with white slop underneath, cord trousers, and black cloth cap. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Saltley, between 10.30 a m. and 12.30 p. m. 23rd instanta man's blue rough pilot cloth monkey Jacket, trimmed] with black braid, black velvet collar, lined inside with old and black striped flannel, pockets outside with flaps, and an inside breast pocket; a pair of dark grey doeskin cloth Trousers, flap fronts ; a black cloth double- breasted Vest, trimmed with black braid, and 5s. in Money. Stolen from a dwelling- house 1 The Cottage,' Slade- lane, Erdington, between 1 and 4 p. m. 20th instant:— a man's black cloth Coat and Vest, single- breasted ; a pair of man's lace- up Boots, brass eyelets, clump soles ; and a cotton Hand- kerchief. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Constabulary Station, ASTON, Birmingham.— Bow- street, January 24. During the tight of 17th instant, a shoe factory at Disborough, was entered, and eleven pairs of boy's Boots stolen therein :— two pairs golosh Bals., red and black waist, black heel, black eyelets and hooks, pointed toe- caps, size 2 ; two pairs Garibaldi's sealed throat, elastic- sides, straight toe- caps, finished same as above pair, sizes 12 and 3 ; three pairs golosh Derby watertights, seal lip3, straight toe- caps, finished as above, sizes 3 and 5 ; two pairs boy's kip, watertights, peaked toe- caps, studded heel and toe point, sizes 13 and 3, finished as above ; one pair plain kip, studded bottoms, straight toe- caps, unfinished, size 6; one pair kip, Derby watertights, studded toe and heal, finished as above ( all rivetted). HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen during the night of 30th or morning of 31st ult. from the farm- yard at White Hall, Bishops Stortford :— a large black cart Mare, 16 hands high, iu good condition, lias one shoo off near fort foot, 7 years old, with tail touching the ground. Also stoleu from the stable at the same time : — a horse's leather Collar, lined with striped lining, nearly new. Supposed by three men,— 1st, about- 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion and eyes, black whiskers side of face, and no moustache; dressed in dark waistcoat, dark trousers, and blpck felt hat. 2nd, 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inche » high, slight build, pale complexion ; dressed in dark overooa', aud wealing a soft wide- a- wale h it. 3rd, about 35 years ot age, 5 feet 7 im- lie- j h'gh, frir complexion. Had with them in the t » wu of Bishops stort- ford a brown Cob, about 14 handsi high, aud a light spring Cart with dark coloured paint. They left Stortford at 8 p. m.; the Mare was traced from the farm across three fields into the higV road, and the track of Horse and Cart and stolen Mare traced on the high road to Hertford aud L'indon. The three men in question are suppesed to bo the same men who stole a Colt at Marlow, Bucks, on 0th ultimo. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Ryder, Police Station, BISHOPS STORTFORD, Herts.— Bois- strcit, February 2. Stolen from a field at Bromley, Pensnett, on night of 27th instant:— a brown mare Pony, about 12 hands high, cut mane and tail, white blaze down the face, shod all round, 5 years old, and has not been worked, is very wild. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, BRIERLEY HILL.— Bow- street, Jan. 31. Wanted for stealing a Horse ( recovered), at Bilston, on 23rd instant:— a man, about 30 years of age, looks older about mouth, 6 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion, light brown hair, cut short, clean shaved, slender build, slightly pock- pitted, both corners of mouth chopped, speaks black country dialect, has the appearance of a jockey or groom : dressed in light cloth Buit, tight fitting, and lace- up boots. Information to Chief Supt, Longden, BILSTON, Staffordshire.— Bow- street. January 29. Stolen during the night of 6th instant, from a stable at Potter Brompton :— a blask cart Mare, 7 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, small star on forehead, long switch tail, long . lair on legs, a sctir on off- side thigh, hind leg, a few grey hairs on nose ; a Saddle, maker's name ' Beswick,' on flap ; a double reiued Bridle, ' Beswick,' stamped cn bit j also an old Halter. Information to John Farrah, Supt. of Police, Police Station, NORTON, Malton.— Eow- street, January 26. Stolen, about 6 a. m. on 9ih instant; a bright' bay Hack- cey Mare, 15 hands 2 inches high, 5 years old, white mark on near hind leg, white mark on forehead, thick rough mane, rather a long tail but docked, fresh scar on off side cf face, about the size of a florin, has a long coat, and is shod for heavy cart work. Also, a set of brass- mounted Harness, pitent leather saddlo and collar, leather back strap, galvanized chains on traces, leather reins with brass buckles, black ha'f- way; value at £ 5. Also Shandry, black varnished, wheels lined with red, one spoke in one of the wheels not lined, newly put in ; front splash board broKen off, black American cloth cushions, one seat with stoppers - and one without, has the name of ' T. Partington, Edge Green, Golborne,' painted in white on the back. By EDWARD FISHER, who was in tho owner's employ for two months, and is now wanted under warrant; he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark brown hair, no whiskers, but dark brown mous- tache long at the ends, lost front teeth of both jaws, thin features aud pale looking, has a mole under right eye, crossed flags and crown on right arm, arid a woman ou his left arm, two women on his breasts, and imitation cuffs tattooed on wrists, half way round ; dressed, when last seen in Wigan, in a grey tweed reefer jacket, black cloth trousers and vest, black billycock hat, anifelastic side bloek- fronted boots. £ b reward will be paid cm the apprehension aud conviction of the thief, and recovery of the stolen property. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Dcsciiption of ALFRED COPE, commercial traveller, wanted on a warrant for stealing Wines, & c., from his masters — 32 years of age, 6 feet high, fair hair and whiskers ( recently dyed black), thin build, stoops, and has cast in his eye ; in a native of Handsworth, near Birmingham. Information to Joseph Farndale, Chief Constable, BIRMINGHAM.— Bow- street, February 2. Stolen in Ashton- under- Lyne, between 10 and 11 a. m, on 31st ultimo :— a lady's gold lever W » tch, No. 7879, gold dial, has the name of' Hadfield' scratched inside. By a man, a shoemaker, 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, black hair, small whiskers, stout made, very much pockpitted ; dressed in a black cloth suit, very far worn, round billycock hat, light blue tie, with white spots. He is well known at Manchester and Macclesficld, having been convicted of larceny at both places. Information to Mr. George Dalgliesh, Chief Constable, ASHTON- UNDER- LYNE. — Bow- street, February 2. Description of DONALD ANDERSON, a draper, wanted at Old Hill, on warrant, charged with embezzlement ; — he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 incles high, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, pale complexion, grey eyes, slender build, respectable appearance, and a native of Inverness, Scotland. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Police Office, BRIERLEY HILL, or Inspector Walters, OLD HILL, near Dudley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 31. Absconded on 26th instant, charged by warrant with stealing £ 1,000, the Moneys of the Manchester and Liverpool District Banking Company, Limited : — DAVID BELL, bank cashier, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, full round red fao, dark sandy hair, whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; wore datk suit, drab overcoat, and hard black felt hat; he is a native of Haddington, , Scotland, and speaks with a Scotch accent. V* Description of THOMAS PODBURY, wanted on a war- rant, charged with embezzling about £ 50 :— he i3 about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, of medium build, dark hair, bushy dark beard, whiskers and moustache, high cheek bones ; dressed respectably in dark clothes and billycock hat, and has the appearance of a betteT class mechanic. Has been employed as collector and absconded on 25th instant. He will endeavour to emigrate. Information to J. Farndale, Chief Constable, BIRMINGHAM. - Bow- street, January 29. Amended description of the two Asses stolen on 13th iistant, from Broadmore Common, Woolhope, Herefordshire, and advertised in Police Gazette, 22nd instant and subsequent dates :— one a brown inclined to sandy- coloured body, white nose and belly, about an inch and half docked off tall ; the grizzly- coloured one has a small brown oval mark on side of nose, cracked hoofs, and drops her ears forward when grazing. They are both small, low iu condition, and in foal. The man described as supposed to have stolen them was seen with two donkeys, in the neighbourhood of Malvern, trying to sell them, ou 13th instant. Information to Supt. J. Smith, Police Station, LEDBURY.— Bow- street, January 29. Wanted on a charge of Fowl stealing at Horwich, at 2 a. m. 27th instant, aloDg with another man now in custody : — a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark hair, sallow complexion ; dressed in dark monkey jacket with horn buttons, and cord trousers, will probably have a recent wound on his head, caused by a truncheon. He is a collier, aud belongs to Aspull near Wigan. Information to Mr. Snpt. Holland, County Police. Office, BOLTON.— Bow- street, January 29. Between 2 and 3 30 a. m., on 27th instant, a dwelling- house at Armitage Fold, South Crosland, was entered, aud the following property stolen, viz. :— a dark drab Scotch tweed Overcoat, marked down front with vitriol, and laps slightly scorched ; aud a slack back Coat, both to fit a man about 5 feet 7 inches high; an indiarubber Tobacco Pouch, marked ' Help yourself;' a Purse, with brass top, and £ i 2s. 4d. ( consisting cf 3 Sovereigns, a Florin, and a 4d.- Piece). Sup- posed by a tramp, about 35 or 40 years of age, tall, spate build, and dark beard on chin end ; dressed iu shabby dark suit, and black billycock hat; said he was a dyer, and came from beyond Wakefield. Information to Mr. s upt. Goodall, West Riding Constabulary, HUDDERSFIELD— Bow- st., Jan. 29_ Charged with stealing a pair of men's Boots ( recovered), on 25tli iuatant, at Oswestry :— two men, one about 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, round full face, dark com- plexion, neither whiskers nor moustache; dressed in grey monkey jacket, dirty moleskin trousers, and very close- fitting cap; belongs to Welshpool. The other about the same age, taller and pale face, with little dark brown moustache ; dressed in black hat and dark jacket. They frequent low public houses, singing, and are accompanied by two young women about their own age, one is pregnant. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, OSWESTRY, Salop.— Bow- street, January 29. Stolen duiing the evening of 26th instant, from the Three Cups Hotel, in Oxford :— A long gold neck Chain, small links, with oval shaped gold Locket attached, and bruised at back. A silver Pencil- case, old and discoloured. An ebony Chain, with ivory Pencil- case attached. By a man, between 20 and 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 ins. high, dark complexion and hair, small side whiskers, and brown eyes ; dressed iu hard black felt hat and long dark pilot over- coat ; respectable appearance. Information to Mr. Supt. C. Head, OXFORD.— Bow- street, January 29. Stolen from a public- house at Henley- on- Thames on 25th inst.:— a brown Shawl ( since recovered). By a maD between • 30 and 40 years of age, & feet 9 inches higb, tuft of hair on chin, and walks very erect; dressed in light brown reefer jacket, dark trousers, red striped stockings, and hard round hat; states he is a saddler, and calls on harnessmakers in different towns for employment. Information to Mr. Supt. Coates Police Station, HENLEY.— Bow- street, January 29. Stolen in Stockport, about 5 a. m. on 22nd instant:— a man's blue ribbed worsted Coat, three pockets outside, two inside, black Italian lining, cloth covered buttons, bound round edge, which is a little worn ; a pair of militia Boots, sine 8, part worn, stamped inside ; a pair of low Shoes, size 8, toe- caps, nearly new. By a man, 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 ins. higb, dark complexion, dark ha< r, p irted down centre and comes rathur low down on forehead, dark moustache ( slight), and imperial, no whiskers, slender build, and military bearing ; dressed in dirty moleskin trousers, boy's round cap ( stolen), aud is no doubt wearing stolen coat, and a pair of stolen boots, he left his old ones behind him. Information to the Borough Police, STOCKPORT. — Bow- street, January 29. Wanted for stealing six tame Fowls, from East on, on 16th instant ( recovered):— a tramping discharged soldier, named B1LLINGS, sometimes works as a bricklayer's labourer or net ( folder, 30 to 35 years of ago, 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, stout built, thick neck, fresh complexion, brown hair and moustache, whiskers shaved off, dark eyes, ruptured, and wearing a broken truss ; dressed in old blue oloth coat, velvet cellar, piece of right side of collar torn off, cord trousers, hard black felt billy hat, lace- up boots, with heel plates, half the plate off one heel; he calls begging at the houses of military gentlemen, and sends in his discharge from the army. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. John E. Noble, Deputy Chief Constable, or to Inspector Alexander, OUNDLE, Northamptonshire.— Bow- street, January 29. Description of JAMES ROBERTS, native of Snitterby, Lincolnshire, charged under warrant with having stolen at Scunthorpe, on 20th instant:— asilver lever Watch, No. 14102, blue hands, white dial, with gilt figures, a gilt circle inside the figures, chain attached ( being part of a silver guard), initials ' J. S. H.' inside case. He is from 35 to 38 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, proportionate'build, sallow com- plexion, black hair cut short, black moustache and whiskers, shaves through at chin, thin face, high cheek bones, dark brown eyes, bald place on crown of head, tattooed on left arm with an anchor aud other marks ; dressed in white flannel jacket, lined with red and white check, two pocket* outside with laps, dark cord vest with sleeves, trousers of similar material, fitting tight in leg, was wealing two shirts at the time he absconded, one a black and white check, the under shirt a grey worsted one, darki muffler, black soft billycock hat, grey worsted stockings, and strong lace- up boots, he also wearsa brown leather belt, took with him a white cord vest wit! moleskin back. His parents reside at 7, Ashton New Road, Preston, Lancashire. Will frequent public- houses, where he sometimes performs Punch and Judy. Information to In- spector Dain, WiNTERTON, Lincolnshire.— Bow street, Jan. 26. Wanted on a warrant for embezzling about £ 20 at Hemel Hempstead JOSEPH REDDING, a journeyman butcher, 24 years < f age, 5 feet 0 inches high, fresh complexion, medium build, small light moustache, small light whiskers on cheeks, no beard, light brown hair; usually dressed in grey clothes, and hard round hat. Information to Mr. Supt. S. Chapman, HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, Herts. — Bow- street, Jan. 26. Absconded from Stokesley, on 9th irctant, charged on a warrant with larceny as a bailee :— GEO. HARRISON, about 40 yeats of age, about G feet high, dark complexion, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, which is rather inclined to curl and parted behind, bald from forehead to crown of head, slender build, is a watchmaker, shabby genteel appearance, and good address ; may be fouud calling, upon watchmakers, or might endeavour to get a situation in some theatre; a native of Stokesley, and is supposed to have worked iu Leeds ; dressed in a dark tweed suit and black hard round felt hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Hutchinson, North Riding Consta- bulary Office, SOUTH STOCKTON, or to Acting Inspector Stones, Police Station, STOKESLEY, via. Northallerton, who holds the warrant for his arrest. Photo can be sent on application. — Bow- st., January 26. Stolen from a coach- house at Townsend, Kingswinford, between 4 p. m. 19th, and 11 a. m. 20th instant:— a Tricycle, Wolverhampton make, two large wheels in front, one small wheel behind, colour— dark groundwork, yellow stripes, brake rather loose, wood seat with bluo cushion, a chain on two small wheels, brass caps on two large wheels. Supposed by a man about 20 years of age, about 6 feet 4 inches high, medium build, fair complexion ( dressed in dark grey tweed jacket, light- coloured trousers, axd dark cap ; who was seen ubout 6 30 p. m. the 19th instant, pushing a tricycle along the Wolverhampton and Stourbridge- road, and going in the directio>° Jt Stourbridge and Kidderminster.
