The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may iead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, of Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information ihould be made and ( worn to before a Magistrate, of th* Offeno* charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with th* advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the FOLIC* GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mnsi be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 4 and 10 p. m., two houses at Rugby were broken into and entered by breaking a pane of glass and lifting the sash of the back window, one on the 13th, the other on the 11th instant, evidently by the same persons, and the following property stolen :— a lady's small silver Geneva Watch, plain face ( open), French make, No. 23214 ; a double- cased German silver verge Watcb, number not known; a small silver Geneva Watch, cream coloured face, one hand mining, sup- posed minute band ; a gold- plated Albert guard; a lorg silver Guard ; a leather Purse, containing 14s. in 2s. pieces ; a plain meerschaum Pipe, highly coloured, with amber mouth- piece ; an amber Cigar Holder ( short), and case lined with red velvet; a lady's long brass Guard, snake pattern. Stolen by means of shopbreaking on IIth instant;— a gent's single- breasted blue worsted morning coat, two pockets in laps behind, one do. in breast, Italiau lining, aud covered buttons ; a grey tweed Chesterfield Overcoat, striped Italian liniDg, twd pockets outside with flaps, and made to tit a boy about 16 years of age ; aud a boy's small mixture Vest. In- formation to J. Jackson, Chief Constable, SHEFFIELD.— Bow- s.' reet, January 15. Between 9 p. m. on 8tli instant and 6 a. m. on 9th instant, the lockup shop of Mr. Geo. Lewis, of Park Street, Welling- ton, gTocer anu provision dealer, was broken into by means of f ircing the back door with two chisels, one about half- an- incb, and the other about one inch wide, and two Hams stolen ( out < f salt about a fortnight). Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Jones, WELLINGTON, Salop.— Bow- street, Jan. 12. Stolen from the Railway Tavern, situate at Norton, between 1 and 5.30 a. m. 8th instant:— a black pilot Overcoat, nearly new, double- breaBted, two rows of black bone buttons, 3 pockets outside and 1 inside left breast, lined with red and black woollen lining, medium size; a blue pilot reefer Jacket, plain collar, double- breasted, 2 rows of black bone buttons, a uarrow piece of cloth let in on the left side below the button holes, about 4 inches long, 3 outside pockets, and 1 inside left breast ; a pair of mo&' s strong lace- up Boots, nearly new, braes eyelet holes, with hooks at top ; a pair of men's light laca- up Boots, much worn, newly heeled, with small pieces outside the soles, one upper leather loose from the sole near the heel; an old gray cloth vest, faded, with new black twill back. Entrance effected through the cellar door, which waB left unfastened. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, BROWN- HILLS, or Sergeant George Whalley, HEDNESFORD.— January 12. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Trysull, neir Wolverhampton, botwoen 10 a. m. 7th, and 3.30 p. m. 9th instant:— 4 Sovereigns, a litttle Silver, and a double Blanket, nearly new, with a border round consisting of four small blue stripes, with a larger stripe ia the centre of dark colour, Information to Inspector Barrett, Police Office, TETTENHALL J or to Sergeant J. Hammond, WOMBOURNE, near Wolver- hampton.— Bow- street, January 12. Stolen on 7th instant, by means of housebreaking :— a gold diamond Brooch and Ear- rings, one diamond in each ; a gold Brooch and Ear- rings, set with brilliants, four or five brilliants in Brooch, and one in each ear- ring ; a pair of gold Princess Ear- rings ; a Ditto, rose pattern, two roses on each drop ; a ditto American Dollar Drop3 ; a gold Ring, set with pearls, pearls soldered on with solder visible ; two ladies gold Rings, oue set with turquoise on each side and one pearl in centre, the other a thick keeper, chased, and has hieroglyphics thereon ; a lady's gold watch Chain, bird's- eye pattern ; an American Dollar gold 3carf Pin ; a gold collar Stud and tkree breast Studs, 9 carat, chased edges, plain centre ; a gold chased scarf Ring; a silver Brooch and Ear- rings, star pattern ; a lady's silver Albert, with whistle attached j a ditto Locket, and two ditto Bracelets, one chased and one carved with two bands of sijver, with filagree in centre. £ 10 reward will be given on the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the property, or in pro- portion to the amount recovered. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen between 8th and 13th instant, from a field in the parish of Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks:— 20 Old Down Ewes various breeds, and not marked. Also within the above date :— 13 Old Down Ewes, of various breeds, from a field in the parish of Iver. Information to Mr. Supt. Dunham, Police Station, SLOUGH ; Or to Inspector Chaplin, Police Station, BEACONSFIELD, Bucks. — Bor- street, January 17. The two Ponies, advertised in Police Gazette of 10th instant, as stolen from Lluast Llanwnog, have been found. Bow- street, January 17. Stolen at Penwortham, near Preston, between 8 p. m. 10th and 7 30 a. m. 11 instant :— a brown Horse, aged 4 years, 15 hands 1 itch high, rough hair, long tail, has a wart on near side on sheath, heavily eho' 1, and has one shoe sharpened. Information to Mr. Supt. Beetham, County Police Office, CHORLEY, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January IS. Stolen about 12 midnight, 9th instant, frcm a stable at Clive Vale, Hastings a small black rough coated Pony, white spot on off hind leg, long tail and mane, aged ; a set of old Harness; and a small 4- wheeled Van, body painted blue, ord wheels and shafts. To men were seen to take it away, but cannot be described. Information to Mr. W. M. Glenister, Chief Supt., HASTINGS.— Bow- street, January 12. Stolen from Binnington, on 9 th instant:— a black carting Mare, 7 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, small white star on forehead, long switch tail, long hair on legs ; an old Saddle, ' Beswick' on the flap ; a double- reined Bridle, ' Bes- wick' stamped on cheek ; and a Halter. Infoimation to John Farrah, Supt., NORTON, MALTON.— Bow- street, January 12. During night of 6th instant, an attempt was made to stea'. a Horse at Little Marlow. Supposed by three men :— 1st, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, full face, large features, roman nose, light brown hair, inclined to be sandy, shaved half way up face, stout build ; dressed in dark cloth top coat, and soft felt hat. 2nd, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair and whiskers ( small), medium buiid ; dressed in dark top coat and soft felt hat. 3rd, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, round features, black hair and mous- tache, whiskers shaved half- way up face, stout build ; dressed ia dark overcoat, and hard felt hat. They were driving a brown cob, about 14 hands high, white star in forehead, an old dirty red painted spring cart, with a spring behind. In- formation to Supt. Sargent, County Police, HIGH WYCOMBE, Bucks, or to Sargeant Mancely, GREAT MARLOW, Bucks.— Bow- street, January 10. Stolen from Lluast Llanwaeg :— two 3- year old horse Colts, one a chesnut, whitish mane and tail, white star on forehead, 12 hands high, the other a black, very rough hair, 12 hands high. Information to J. Danily, C. C. NEWTOWN, or to P. C. Humphreys, CAERSWS, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, January 10. The red roan cart Gelding, reported stolen from Thoyden Garnon, Essex, between 28th and 30th ultimo, and advertised in Police Gazette of 1st instant, has been recovered at Deptford, and the man suspected of stealing it is about 30 to 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, full face, good looking, light brow^ a hair, whiskers, and moustache, the whiskers cut square in line with mouth, and moustache, and clean chin; dressed in a plum- coloured coat, vest, and trousers, the coat short, and hip pockets, black hard felt hat, and had a riDg on his fioger. Information to Mr. Supt. Lennon, Constabnlary Office, EPPING, Essex. — Bow- street, January 10. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 58, the Monies of the ' Sergeant's mess,' at the Royal Artillery Barracks, Shoeburyness, Essex, on 4th instant ALFRED JOSEPH RIPLEY, Battery Sergeant, Royal Artillery, 24 years of age, 5 feet lOi inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, no whiskers, long nose, thin face, slim figure, born at St. George's, Manchester, is a sign writer, and is well educated; he is supposed to be in London, as his uniform was booked for Shoeburyness at Fenchurch- street Railway Station, on 11th instant, and the address was in his hand writing; he is known to Mr. Brash, 7, Cambridge- gardens, Notting Hill, and also at the Gaiety Theatre, Strand, London. Information to Mr. Supt. Hawtree, Police Station, SOUTHEND, Essex, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, January 17. Absconded from Market Drayton, on 23rd November last, charged on a warrant with larceny as a bailee :— EDWIN BALLINGER, about 45 years of age, 6 feet high, moustache turning grey, very little ( if any) whiskers, bald on top of head, hair turning grey, rather large mouth, thin fea- tures and medium build; has been a soldier, walks very erect, is very talkative, and of drunken habits, is a barber or hair- dresser, pccasionally mends umbrellas, and is supposed to be a native of Derbyshire or East Staffordshire. He left Market Drayton by North Staffordshire Railway on 23rd November laat, accompanied by his wife and several small children, and booked for Derby, himself and family, and con- signed his furniture to Nottingham and was Been in Notting- ham same day, in which neighbourhood he is now supposed to be residing. Information to Mr. Supt. Howells, WHIT- CHURCH, or to Sergeant Merricks, MARKET DRAYTON, Salop, who holds the warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, Jan. 17. Absconded, charged with larceny and receiving:— a dealer, 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, whiskers and moustache, prominent eyes, Jewish appearance; usually dressed in dark blue overcoat, velvet collar, hartj, re'J Cat • frequents sale rooms. W.— Metropolitan Police, January 17. The man described in Police Gazette Dec. 27th, 1882, as having stolen a silver lever Watch, 66588 ( not recovered), from a dwelling- house at Stockport, on 23rd ult., has been apprehended at Shrewsbury for a similar offence, and sen. tenced to 6 cal. months.— Bow- street, January 17. Description of FANNY SHARRATT, wanted on war- rant, charged with stealing a silver Watch ( recovered), at Legcett, on 11th instant:— she last resided at Longton, Staffordshire, domestic servant, 16 years of age, about 5 feet high, fresh complexion, pale face, brown hair, cut short across forehead, proportionate build, broad shoulders, native of Man- chester, single; dressed in an old grey winsey dress, black hat, trimmed with black velvet, elastic- side boots, no shawl or jacket on when she absconded, but is supposed to have bought a new shawl at Newcastle, after she pledged the watch. Will very likely be found in some brothel; was con- victed at Longton ia November last, for stealing money. Information to Mr. George Harston, Supt. of Police, STONE, Staffordshire, or Sergeant Parsons, Police Offic°, MADELEY, Newcastle- under- Lyme, who holds the warrant far her arrest. — Bow- street, January 17. Description of CHARLES LORAM, a baker, native of Exeter, who absconded from Teignmouth, DEVON, oa 9th instant, charged on warrant with embezzling several sums of Money :— he is 26 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh com- plexion, black hair and moustache, very small whiskers, large head, prominent forehead, and slightly round shouldered; dressed in light brown West of England cloth suit, and brown bowler hat; he took with him a new dark brown overcoat, with bone buttons to match the colour of the cloth; he worked in London in 1880 and 1881, supposed ia the neighbourhood of Brixton. Information to Mr, Supt. Moore, E Division, Devon Constabulary, CHUDLEIGH, or to Sergeant Bright, Police Station, TEIGNMOUTH, who holds the warrant for his appreheasioa.— Bow- street, January 15. Descriptioa of J. W. MATTHEWS, wanted ia Sheffield, for stealing three photographer's Leases :— he is 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iaches high, medium build, thin face, saady hair aad moustache, is of gentlemanly appearance ; a photo- grapher, and supposed to be a native of Manchester. Wanted oa warrant for stealiag at Bilston, oa 8tl iastaat, £ 3 ia Moaey :— JAMES SMITH, a labourer or boatman. 55 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, slender build, bald on top of head, shaves clean except chin which is grey ; dressed in old dark tweed jacket, very ragged dark vest, moleskin trousers, red neckerchief, heavy lace- up boots; is well known to boatmen on the Shropshire Union Canal. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Longden, BILSTON, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 15. Wanted for stealing Pigeons :— a man, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, full round face ; dressed in blue pilot cloth overcoat, cord trousers, strong boots, blaek billycock hat, far wora. Information to County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester.— Bow- street, January 15. Stolea at the ' Castle lan,' Bishops Castle, oa 8th iastant: — a double- breasted brown Overcoat, drab liaing, pockets outside, one inside left breast, ticket ditto outside oa right; breast ( torn), aad patch on wrist of left sleeve. Stolen during'the night of llth instant, froni a. plate- layer's hut on the Cambrian Railway, near Ellesmere :— a brown cloth monkey Jacket, lined wiih brown material, a patch of unbleached calico on lining inside, only one button on at the top, the others are all off, ope pocket inside left breast, and one en each hip outside. Supposed by two tramp- ing labourers : one about 45 j ears of age, about 5 feet 10 ins. high, fresh complexion, and small sandy whiskers and mous- tache ; the other about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, very dark complexion, and dressed in dark clothes. One of them must be wearing the stolen Jacket, as an old one was loft behind. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, OSWESTRY, or to P. S. Walters, ELLESMERE, Salop.— Bow- street, January 15, Absconded from Kenley, Salop, on 12th instant, charged on warrant with stealing £ 5 7s. 6cL, and an old- fashioned knitted Purse, about 7 inches long, by 2 wide, has two steel riugs, one to draw each way:— JOHN EDWARDS, labourer, and a native of Shrewsbury, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair and eyes, broad features, pale complexion, no whiskers, slight dark moustache, high fore- head, wide mouth, thick lips, down looking, rather stout built, leans forward and turns left foot outwards when walking ; has set vcd one training in the Denbighshire Militia dressed in an old dark cloth jacket and vest, light cord tfonsers, black hard hat, white muffler, and clogs. Charged on warrant with stealing a sewing Machine, wood box ; a small wooden papered Box, a dark mixture tweed Jacket and Vest; a witney Overcoat, with black velvet collar ; a pair of watertight Boots; . a small plain Clock, flat top aud dark- coloured wood ; and 6 Ties, at Heath Town, on 10th ultimo;— WILLIAM HILL, 23 years of age 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, grev eyes, slender build, a miuer, native of Heath Town, near Wolver- hampton ; dressed in dark suit and hard black billycock hat. Wanted at Welshpool, under warrant, charged with stealing a pair of Boots ( recovered) RICHARD BISHOP, labourer, 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, ; dressed in old dark or brown jacket, cotton cord trousers, much worn at bottoms, jimcrojv hat, and old elastic- tide boota ; he is of drunken habits, and is well known in Shrewsbury, and the immediate neighbourhood. Absconded from Dullingham, Cambs., on 18th ultimo, charged with stealing from the boys' bedroom at the racing stables of Mr. Marsh : a silver Geneva Watch, maker's name and number not known, a german silver curb pattern Albert Guard, 19s. in Money, ami a new low crowned hard black felt Hat ( maker's name ' S. Golding, Newmarket,' inside: THOMAS GALTEROUS, a stable lad, 1G or 17 years of age, small in stature, and looks muoh younger. It is thought that this lad will seek employment in racing stables in the north of England. Information - to Mr. Supt. Long, NEW- MARKET, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 12. Wanted on warrant, charged With stealing two Watches on 9th instaut:- SAMUEL EDWARDS, 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, ginger whiskers and moustache, light blue eyes, very thin build, and has a swinging gait when walking; dressed iu a dark browil overcoat, black billy cock hat, aaS light brown mixture suit. He is a watchmaker, but may seek eniploy- m9nt as a billiard marker. Information to Chief Inspector Nortcliff, Detective Department, Town Hal), LEEDS*.— Bow- st., January 12. Absconded from Burslem, on 23rd ultimo, charged on warrant with stealing a pair of Boots, brown cloth tops, button at sides, and toe- capped ( not recovered) :— SAMUEL BROADBERE, bookbinder, 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, slight light moustache, and supposed a uative of Malvern, Worcestershire; dressed in black hard hat, blue pilot cloth coat ( buttons to the neck), and browu tweed trousers. He will endsavour to obtain employment as book canvasser or bookbinder. L. 1 on back ; a gold Albert Chain, cable pattern, with Key and two gold Dollars, one Spanish, the other American, attached, maker Klaftenburgher, Regent Street, London ; a gent's gold Watch; a gold Geneva Watch, very old, gold dial, gold Chain, long, aud email links; a gold Brooch, about the sizs of a shilling, notched round the edge ; a gold keeper Ring, ' Miz- pah' ou it; a silver Locket and Ear- ring3 to match, with doves on it ; and , a silver Locket with dove and photo cf woman ; a gold Ring with pearls ; two with pearls and tur- quoise ; a gold Locket, horse- shoe pattern, hair one side, and female's face the other.
