FV LICENCE- HOLDER, Philip Doyle, 14,788 ( failed to report himself at Liverpool, a labourer, native of Dublin, 82 years of age, 5 feet inches high, stout build, black hair turning gray, black eyes, dark complexion, oval features, P. D. and anchor, varicose veins left leg; convicted at Dublin City Sessions, 16th January, 1878, of larceny, ard sentenced to 6 years' penal servitude. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. A PROCLAMATION. By the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland. SPENCER. . WHEREAS by our Proclamation, dated the 9th May, 1882, We offered a reward of Ten Thousand Pounds to any person or persons who should, withia a limited time therein specified, give such information as would lead to the conviction of the Murderers of Lord Frederick Cavendish, the Chief Secretary, and Thomas Henry Burke, Esquire, the Under Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, on the 6th May, 1882: And whereas the time therein specified for giving such information has expired : Now We. the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Govjrnor of Ireland, are pleased to renew the said offer, and We do hereby offer a reward of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS STERLING to any persoQ or persons who, within six months from the date hereof, shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of any of the Murderers : And a further reward of FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall, within the same period, lead to the same result: AND whereas it is known that four, perpetrators of these Murders escaped from the scene on an outside car which was driven away by a fifth person: Now We are also ploased hereby to offer to any person concerned in or privy to these Murders ( not being one of the above- mentioned four Murderers) who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall load t > the conviction of any one of the said four Murderers, a FREE PARDON and the special protection of the Crown in any pare of Her Majesty's Dominions, in addition to a reward of FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS- And We are further pleased to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any such person concerned in or privy to these Murders, who shall, within the said last- mentioned period, give such private information as shall lead to the conviction of any ore of the said four Murderers, or of any other person concerned in or privy to the Murders. AND We are fuither pleased hereby to offer a reward ot FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS • for such private information as shall lead to the identification of any person concerned in or privy to the Murders, or of the horse and car used- on the occasion, such last- mentioned reward of Five Hundred Pounds to be paid upon the information being corroborated to Our satisfaction by other information in Our possession, even though no person should be mace amenable to justice as a result thereof. And W -<? by prom'se that every effort shall be made t<"' t the name or names of any person or persons who mav become entitled to any of the said rewards for private information shall not be disclosed or made public, and that the said reward shall be paid in any manner in which such person shall desire. Any person having any information to give, may communicate it to the Assistant Under Secretary for Police and Crime, Dablin Castle, to the Superinten- dent ot the Detective Department of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, Dublin Castle, or to any other Government official in Great Britain or Ireland. Given at Dublin Castle, this 10th day of November, 1882. DESCRIPTION of the four men, wanted for murder pf Lord F. Cavendish and Mr. Burke, the Chief and Under Secretaries for Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, on Saturday, 6th instant, between 7 and 8 P. M. :— 1. About 35 years old, stout make, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache recently clipped, so as to give a bristling appearance, narrow forehead, natural hollow or dinge on bridge of nose; wore a soft black jerry hat and dark clothes. 2. About 30 years, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache ; brown faded coat, as if much exposed to sun, soft black jerry hat. 3. About 20 years, small dark moustache, no whiskers ; soft black hat and dark clothes. 4. About 30 years, sandy hair and moustache, beq, rd on chin ; wore dark clothes and soft black hat. The height cannot be given of any, all being sitting on an outside car, driven by a man between 35 and 40 years, red bloated face, with a few days' growth of beard on; dark or brown coat, supposed frieze, and low soft black hat. The horse was a bay or chestnut, of good action, and the car had either a dark green or a red panel. The men had the appearance of sailors or well- to- do artisans.— JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. A PROCLAMATION. By the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland. SPENCER. WHEREAS Mr. Denis J. Field, of Westmoreland- street. in this city, was, on the evening of the 27th November instant, about six o'clock, at North Frederick- street, in this city, feloniously and malici- ously tt< bbel and wounded by some person or persons, who immediately afterwards got on an out- side car which was wai ing in Hardwicke- street, and drove off rapidly through Hardwicke- place : Now, We, John Poyntz, Earl Spencer, Lord Lieuteuant- General and General- Governor of Ire- Ireland, f r the better apprehending aDd bringing to justice the offenders and their accomplices, hereby offer a reward of FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who, within three months from the date here° fi shall give such information as will lead to the conviction of the said offenders or their accomplices, or any of them. And a further reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUnDS for such private information » s shall, within the said period, lead to the same result. Abd We hereby prom'se that every effort shall be made t j insure that tl e name or names of any person or persons who may become entitled to the said reward for private information shall not be disclosed or made public, and that the said reward shall be paid in any manner in which such person shall desire. Given at Dablin Castle, this 28th day of November, 1882. By His Excellency's Command, R. G. C. HAMILTON. PARTICULARS relative to convict John Desmond, 14,776, convicted at Macroom, county Cork, at the Quarter Sessions, on the 17th April, 1878, for assault with intent to rob, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 35 years of age on conviction, is a Roman Catholic, married, has two children, is a repairer of fishing tackle, born in Barrack- street, Cork, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside; brown hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, average make, 5 feet 8f inches high, has a cut- mark over each eyebrow. This man was released on licence from Spike Island Prison, 19th May, 1882, and went to reside at Queenstown. He has failed to report himself to the Police on change of residence, and his present whereabouts are unknown. He is supposed to have gone to sea. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, Dublin Castie. November 18, 1882. < 26188 M.— 45461. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim. Young offenders, John Fyfe and William J. Tate, described in Hue- tnd- Cry of 15th September last, have not been arrested. Belfast. DESCRIPTION of Elizabeth Anne Rice, native of 56, Abyssinia- street, Belfast, who left her home at 56, Abyssinia- street, Bel'ast, on the 17th October, 1882, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, and has not since been heard of, and it is supposed some accident has befallen her, or has been taken away by some person :— Blue eyes, short nose, fair complexion, round face, slight make, 4 feet high, about 11 years of age, dark brown hair cut short; wore a dark navy blue dress, with kilty plaiting, and a large Paisley shawl, a little faded; had no boots on. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hickey, native of Lahinch, who stands charged with having, on the night of @ th or morning of 7th August, 18S2, in the barony of of Corcomroe, parish of Kilmanaheen, stolen two sheep, the property of Patrick Lynch, of Ennis- tymon:— Slightly s looped shoulders, slouching gait, holds his head djwn, and generally keeps his hands in trowsers pockets when walking, dark eyes, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard round hat, long dirk coat, tweed trowsers and vt st; is a butcher. DESCRIPTION of James Fitzgerald ( mother's sur- name Hassett), native of Kilfeeragh, who stands charged with having, on tbe 21st day tof October, 1882, in the barony of Mogarta, parish of Kilfeeragh, assaulted Patrick Gorman, by striking him on the head with- a spade, thereby placing his life in danger :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, smooth face, medium make, 5 faet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a jerry hat, frieze coat, cord trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farmer's son. Kilrush, October 28, 1882. ( 55188 c.— 7333.) Cork. DESCRIPTION of John Gilbert, native of Lurgan, county Armagh, who, on the 15th instant, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Clonfert, was arrested under sec. 12 of Prevention of Crime ( Ireland) Act, 1882, and committed for one month to Cork Gaol on his failing to find sureties to keep the peace :— The letters J. J. on left wrist, three blue dots oh back of left hand, thumbs of both hands crooked as if dis- jointed, varicose veins in calf of left leg, blue eyes, long nose, fair complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a fur cap, dark gray coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a painter. This person may have committed crime elsewhere, as there is nothing known about him in Lurgan, where he stated he is from, and that his father is a shoemaker and lived in Church place. Kanturk, Nov. 26, 1882. ( 55324 o.— 7734.) DESCRIPTION of Patrick Bride, native of Fermoy, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of October, 1882, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Anne's, seriously assaulted Daniel Leary by striking him on the head so as to fracture his skull:— Old cut mark supposed under left eye, black eyes, long nose, pale complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 18 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft black hat, long frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a tinker. Cork North, Oct. 24, 1882. ( 55083 c.— 7814.) Donegal. Samuel O'Donnell ( embezzlement11, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th October, 1882. —: - , « Down. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who standi charged with having, on the night of the 24th or morning of the 25th October, 1882, in the barony of Lower Iveagh, parish of Dromore, stolen out of a field at Coolsallagh, two bullocks, the property of John Morrow, which he afterwards sold to William Fishbourne, of Bally- nahinch :— Respectable appearance, cheek bones rather high, sharp \ chin, small hands, soft and white as if unused to work, small eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair and small light moustache; wore a low hard hat, dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of harness, the property of Major- General George De Renzy, of Willbrook House, which was stolen from his stable, on the lands of Willbrook, parish of Rathfarnham, barony of Rath- down, on the 8rd November, 1882 :— One single set of silver mounted harness, crest " rampant lion"; value for about £ 10. Is supposed to have been brought for sale to some part of the county Wicklow within tho last few days, The crest has been removed, but the mark of it probably remains on the harness. Two men are suspected, but no de- scription can be given. Dundrum, Nov. 15, 1882. ( 54790 c.— 6551.) DESCRIPTION of James Rooney, native of Moynalty, county Meath, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 4thiost., in the barony of Balrothery East, parish of Ballyboghil stolen a bay mare, the property of T. P. Byrne, Esquire, J. P., of Bally- boghil :— Smart figure, swarthy dark sullen com- plexion, thin dark hair on face, 6 feet 9 inches high, about 88 years of age. dark hair j wore a soft black hat, dark jacket, dark blue trowsers, and dark blue Guernsey ; shirt had on a broad- webbed belt with • mall leather pouches sewed on same. Sailor- like appearance, silent manner, and looked and spoke as if somewhat simple; always said he was years at sea; is a labourer. Balbriggan, Nov. 9,1882. ( 64786 c.— 5493.) DESPCRITION of William Hoey, native of Chapelizod, Dublin, and Richard Quinn and James Dowdall, natives of St. Lawrence, county Dublin, who stand charged with having, on the 6th October. 1882, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Palmerstown, assaulted and intimidated Bernard Kelly and Francis Reilly. when at their lawful employment on the lands of Quarryvale:— 1. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a round jerry hat, corduroy coatjt dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer, and generally attends masons. 2- Tender gray eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 22 years- of age, fair hair; wore a mole- skin jacket and trowsers ; is a labourer. 3. In- kneed, brown eyes, regular nose, swarthy complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 23 years of age, black hair : wore a corduroy coat, trowsers, and vest ; is a labourer. Warrants have been issued for the arrest of accused, and are in possession of D. M. Police, and R. I. C. at Palmerstown, in this district. Lucan, October 80, 1882. ( 54621 5388.) James Dunne ( name supposed fictitious) ( sheep stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th October, 186( 3. Fermanagh. Benjamin Hawtrey ( stealing), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th October, 1812, has not been arrested. Galway. DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th June, 1882. WHEREAS at or about the hour of twenty minutes past three o'clock, P. M., on Thursday, the 8th June, instant, Walter M. Bourke, Esq., of Rahassane Park, Craughwell, in the county of Galway, and Corporal Wallace, of the Royal Dragoons, were shot dead on the road close to one ot the gates of Castle Taylor Demesne, near Ardrahan, in the said county, by some person or persons at present unknown : His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of these Murders, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons, or any of them, who committed the said Murders. And a further reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. His Excellency is also pleased to offer in addition to the above rewards a FREE PARDON and the Special Protection q/ the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions to any person concerned in, or privy to, the said Murders other than the person or persons who actually committed the same, in case of his giving such information as shall lead to the con- viction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the Murders aforesaid. And whereas any person who knowingly receives into his or her house or otherwise harbours or maintains any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or conceals or aids any of them in escaping or endeavouring to escape from justice becomes liable to penal servitude for life : His Excellency is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the CONVICTION of any person who has so received, harboured, maintained, or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from justice, or who shall receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from justice, any of the persons who committed the said Murders. By His Excellency's Command, R. G. C. HAMILTON. The above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by D. B. Franks, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Gort, to those who may become entitled to them under the conditions of this Proclamation. Ignatius Kelly, James Kelly, Michael Rogerson, John Rogerson, and Patrick Touhy ( attempt to blow up a gentleman's residence with dynamite), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 26th July, 1882. Kildare. DESCRIPTION of John Nolan, native of 28, St. Andrew- street, Dublin, who has left bis home and being of unsound mind, may have committed suicide. He was last seen at Newbridge, on the 3rd instant:— Deranged in head, sore foot, which causes him to walk lame, long dark brown beard, bald on top of head, dark complexion, thin worn face, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of'age, dark hair; wore a dark blue top coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a baker. Kildare, Sept. 18, 1882. ( 54510 c.—- 4987.) John Cross ( arson), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 1st September, 1882. King's. DESCRIPTION of Laurence Fennelly, alias Patrick Hogan, native of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd November, 1 - 82, in the barony of Philipstown Lower, parish of Kilclonfert, when arrested for larceny, had in his possession a silver Geneva watch, No. 40,750, the letter " N" scratched on the inside of case, also a steel watch key, both value for £ 1, which are believed to have been stolen. ( See Hue- and- Cry of 21st November, 1882, under Queen's County):— Small hollow on bridge of nose, which is flat and thick; blue eyes, thick nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, black hair; wore a jerry hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest, and strong boots is a shoemaker. Edenderry, Nov. 27, 1882. ( 54797 c 5639.) DESCRIPTION - of the undernamed articles, which were stolen from the dwelling- house of Daniel Carroll, situate in the townland of Cloneygannagh, p wish of Dunkerrin, and barony of Clonlisk, by means of burglary, on night of 8' h or morning of 0th October, 1882, viz :— One grayish colour waterproof overcoat; one dark tweed frock coat, much worn and faded ; one pair of men's nailed lace- up boots, very much worn. Supposed to have been committed by itinerant tinkers who were recently in the neighbourhood, and may pawn one or any of these articles. Shinrone, Nov. 14, 1882. ( 64773 c.— 6509.). • Peter Clarke ( young offender), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th October, 1882. Patrick Connell ( young offender), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th October, 1883. Leitrim. DESCRIPTION ol two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 27th October, 1882, in the barony of Mohill, parish of Cloone, appeared disguised and with blackened faces, and armed with guns, visited the houses of Archibald and Arthur Nicholl, of Drumbore, and forcibly took away two guns and a pistol from said houses, the property of said Archibald and Arthur Nicholl:— 1. Blackened face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age, no beard or whiskers ; wore a flat cap, and a cloak over shoulders. 2. Blackened face, slight make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 20 years of age, no beard; wore a hat like a policeman's helmet, corduroy trowsers, and a bag over his shoulders. Description of arms stolen :— 1. The property of Archibald Nicholl— A single- barrel muzzle- loading fowling- piece, pipes for ramrod tied with wax end round barrel, a small piece of silver on stock near hammer; value for £ 1 15s. 2. The property of Arthur Nicholl— A double- barrel muzzle loading fowling- piece one nippel larger than the other, stock broken between the locks ; value for £ 8. 3. A double- barrel muzzle- loading pistol; value for £ 1. Mohill, November 1, 1882. ( 54317 c _ 5373) Limerick, * DESCRIPTION of Richard Bourke, native of Bilboa, who stands charged with having, on the 26th Novem- ber, 1883, about 11 o'clock, A. M., in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Doon, seriously assaulted Patrick Walsh, by striking him on the head, and inflicting a dangerous wound, thereby placing his life in danger:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a iound black hat, gray, frieze coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer. New Pallas, Nov. 27, 1882. ( 56840 o.— 7778.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, DECEMBER 1, 1882. DBSCRIPTION of three men, names unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 81st August* 1882, stolen the sum of twenty pounds ten shillings, the property of Mrs. Margaret Hennessy, from her dwelling- house, in the barony of Lower Connello, parish of kilscannell:—. 1. Very tall, no hair, on face; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat, and white flannel drawers. 2. About 6 feet 8 inches in height, black whiskers with rest of face shaved ; wore a jerry hat and dark clothes. 3. About middle height, no hair on face ; wore a jerry hat and dark clothes. ( 53784 c.— 6677.) William Fitzgerald ( indecent assault on a child), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 10th October, 1882. Londonderry. Robert Johnston, convict on licence, native of Londonderry, who stands charged with having, failed to report himself to Police at Coleraine; not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 24th Ocfober, 1882. Convict E. Kelly, alias Thomas M'Cartney ( cot arrested); Hue- and- Cry, 10th October, 1882. Longford. DISCRIPTION of a gun, the property of Philip M'Dermott, which was stolen from his dwelling- house at Ballinascrow, in the parish of Clonbroney, on the night of 23rd instant:— An old double- barrelled muzzle loading fowling- piece, maker's name " Hall " marked on the lock- plate; value about £ f 10*. Granard, October 24, 1882. ( 54706 c— 5826.) Louth. | | DESCRIPTION of Charles Reid, native of Wallace- row, Yellowbatter, who, on the 5th November, 1882, left his home, in the barony of Ferrard, parish of St. Peter's, and as he has not since been heard of, it is feared some ill may have befallen him:— Tender brown eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 46 or 47 years of age, brown hair and whiskeri turning . gray ; wore a fur cap, dark frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, aud dark vest; is a labourer; served for 21 years in the army; mind supposed to be weak. Drogheda, Nov. 18, 1882. ( 54804 c.— 557 5.) DESCRIPTION of Patrick Burke, native of Drogheda, who stands charged with having, on the 24th October, 1882, in the barony of Drogheda, parish of St. Peter's, stolen a pair of blucher boots from the lodging- house of Mrs. Reynolds, of Constitution hill, which he pawned in this town ; the boots were subsequently got by the Police:— Delicate appearance, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, light brown hair; wore a soft hat, tweed coat, and corduroy trowsers. Drogheda, Oct. 27, 1882. ( 54711 c.— 5346.) Mayo. Patrick Corcoran ( rape), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 19th September, 1882. M. on the 26th instant :— One double muzzle- loading gun, maker's name " Purdie," 12 bore, spring catch on hammer; one gold chain, 18 carat, long links, and fancy pattern locket, value £ 16; one spring clock, nickel case ( alarm), value about 15s.; four pairs of laced boots ( bellows tongued), two pairs new, and two slightly worn, one pair having two rows of brass sprigs round edges of soleS, and one pair nailed, nails running straight from toes; three tweed coats, sack make, and horn buttons; three tweed vests, do.; five pairs of tweed trowsers, three of a bright colour and two dark; one briar- root pipe, goose- shank stem, and about lib. of flat tobacco ; three pocket knives, two have brown horn handles, and one with three blades and a screw; two razors, one with a white and one with a black handle,' having " C. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Hogan, supposed native of Kilkenny, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of November, 1882, in tbe barony of Tinne- hinch, parish of Rosenallis, stolen a black satara ribbed cloth morning coat, nearly new, value for £ 2, the property of Charles Dunne, Mountmellick :— Small hollow on bridge of nose, which is flat and thick, blue eyes, thick nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make. 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, black hair ; wore a jerry hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest, and strong boots with toecaps; is a tramping shoemaker. DESCRIPTION of Susan Brown, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 27th of November, 1882, at Rosnastraw, in the barony of Ballinacor South, parish of Kilpipe, broken open a box in « the dwelling- house of Patrick Murphy, where she had been lodging for some time, and stealing therefrom £ 29 lis. 6d and a black leather purse with clasp, all his property, with which she absconded, ' he notes consisted of one £ 10, three £ 5, and four ngle £ 1, all of Bank of Ireland, and were pretty fresh, and lis. 6d. in silver. Two or three of the sTngle notes were cut and pasted at back:— Rather smart and clean- looking for one of her class, dark eyes, long thin nose, sallow complexion, long face, - medium make, about 5 feet high, about 60 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a black cloth cloak or cape with hood, red stuff dress, black straw bonnet with white braid, sometimes wears a red handker- chief and at sometimes the hood of cloak on her head over her bonnet, and laced boots; is a strolling beggar.
