DESOBIPTIOK of a man who is wanted in this borough, on a charge of embezz'ement, and who ab- conded from Kendal on the 18th November, 1882, and for whose apprehension a Warrant ha* been issued:— John Halliwell, labourer or coal hawker, native of Kendal, 35 years of age, about 5 f » et 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, very dark brown hair and moustache, rather stoutish build, fa 1 fae d and '- yes, whiskers shaved off, face rather bloated through drink, dressed in black cloth coat, and trowsers, brown tweed vest, black felt hat, Rob Roy plaid scarf, blue cotton shirt, strong lace- up bootr, supposed far worn. Information to be given to THOMAS COTTON, Chief Constable, Kendal, Westmoreland. Chief Conntable's Office, Town Hall; Kendal, x November 20, 1882. ( 25331 m.— 45539.) £ 5 REWARD. Absconded from Boston, on Tuesday, tho 14th instant, charged on Warrant with stealing £ 70 in money and some account books, tho property of his master, Mr. Geo. Wm. Thomas, Solicitor, Frederick John Brewster:— A lawyer's clerk, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7£ inches high, stout and broad set, full pale sallow features and pleasant- looking, mouth rather large, dark brown hair cut short, and had a moustache when ho left, but no whiskers ; supposed dressed in a dark gray suit with jacket or blue sorgo suit, brown overcoat, hard felt hat with largo brim worn very backward, neckerchief tied loose with long ends, and carried a black leather bag. He has a swinging walk and carries his head up; is fond of horse- racing and gambling. Tho above reward will be paid by. tho undersigned for his apprehension, to whom information is to be given. M, from a chest in the bedroom of Patrick Berry,' labourer, King- street, Wigton, £ 30 in gold, by Joseph Pyle and Joseph Davidson, who lodged in the same house with him and slept in the same room; they absconded immediately after tho robbery and will most likely endeavour to emigrate to America':— 1.— About 22 years of ago, is a joiner, and employed as navvy, & c., a native of Greenside, Gateshead, about 6 feet high, fresh complexion, long face, brown eyes, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache, strong and bony figure, lately resided at Wigton, single; wore a black felt hat, dark coat and vest, gray trowsers, and low shoes; respectable appearance. 2.— About 23 years of ago, is a stonemason, and employed as navvy at sewerage works, a native of Greenside, Gateshead, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, has two or three front teeth out of upper jaw, light hair, slight light moustache, proportionate figure, lately resided at Wigton, single; wore a black felt hat, dark coat and vest, gray trowsers, and low shoes. LICENCE- HOLDER, Philip Doyle, 14,738 ( failed to report himself at Liverpool), a labourer, native of Dublin, 32 jears of age, 5 feet inches high, stout build, black hair turning gray, black eyes, dark complexion, oval features, P. D. and anchor, varicose veins left leg; convicted at Dublin City Sessions, 15th January, 1878, of larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude. He was released from Her Majesty's Convict Prison, Mountjoy, 14th August, 1883. Information to GEORGE WILLIAMS Chief Superin- tendent, Detective Department, Liverpool. ( 25114-^ M. 4530,.) SCOTTISH POLICE. WANTED here, under a Sherriff's Warrant, charged with having, on night of 13th November, 1882, stolen a horse and a bridle ( both recovered) from the stable at Tomnagairn Farm, near Dunkeld, in this county William Macfarlane :— Cattle dealer in small way, and attends auction marts, sales, & c.; native of Aberfeldy, Perthshire; 30 years of age ; 5 feet 9 or 10 inches in height; black hair, cut short; small whiskers, shaved on chin, and wears moustache ; short neck and stout make. Dress when last seen— Dark brown tweed coat, vest, and trowsers, all of same cloth ; black felt hat; lacing boots, with tackets; and carried an umbrella. Has served recently a few months in the Police ; is par- ticulary fond of Police society, and is almost certain to be again seeking employment in the Police service. Accused sold the horse in Crieff early on morning of 14th current. The Police are requested to make special search and inquiry for the above- named, apprehend him if found, and convey him direct to Perth, or wire to the sub- scriber, who will immediately send for him. By the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland. SPENCER. WHEREAS by our Proclamation, dated the 9th May, 1883, We offered a reward of Ten Thousand Pounds to any person or persons who should, withia a limited time therein specified, give such informal ion as would lead to the conviction of the Murderers of Lord Frederick Cavendish, the Chief Secretary, and Thomas Henry Burke, Esquire, the Under Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, on the Rth May, 1882 : And whereas the time therein specified for giving such information has expired: Now We, the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland, are pleased to renew the said offer, and We do hereby offer a reward of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS STERLING to any person or persons who, within six months from the data hereof, shall ( jive such information as will lead to the conviction of any of the Murderers : And a further reward of FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall, within the same period, lead to the san. e result: AND whereas it is known that four perpetrators of these Murders escaped from the scene on an outside car which was driven away by a fifth person : Now We are also pleased hereby to offer to any person concerned in or privy to these Murders ( not being one of the above- mentioned four Murderers) who shall, within these months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of any one of the said four Murderers, a FREE PARDON and the special protection of the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions, in addition to a reward of FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS. And We are further pleased to offer a reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to any such person concerned in or privy to these Murders, who shall? within the said last- mentioned period, give such private information as shall lead to the conviction of any one of the said fo ir Murderers, or of any other person concerned in or privy to the Murders. AND We are further pleased hereby to offer a reward oi FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS tor such private information as shall lead to the identification of anv persoa concerned in or privy to th e Murders, or of the horse and car used on the occasion, such last- mentioned reward of Fiye Hundred Pounds to be paid upon the information being corroborated to Our satisfaction by other information in Our possession, even though no person sh « uld be made amenable to justice as a result thereo'. And Wa hereby prom'se that every effort shall be made to insure th » t the name or names of any person or persons who may become entitled to any of tho said rewards for private information shall not be disclosed or made public, and that the said reward shall be paid in any manner in which such person shall desire. Any person having any information to give, may communicate it to the Assistant Under Secretary for Police and Crime. Dublin Castle, to the Superinten- dent of the Detective Department of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, Dublin Cattle, or to any other Government official iu Great Britaia or Ireland. Given at Dublin Castle, this 10th day of November, 1882. DESCRIPTION of the four men, wanted for murder of Lord F. Cavendish and Mr. Burke, the Chief and Under Secretaries for Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, on Saturday, 6th instant, between 7 and 8 r. M.:— 1. About 35 years old, stout make, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache recently clipped, so as to give a bristling appearance, narrow forehead, natural hollow or dinge on bridge of nose; wore a soft black jerry hat and dark clothes. 2. About 30 years, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache ; brown faded coat, as if much exposed to sun, soft black jerry hat. 3. About 20 years, small dark moustache, no whiskers ? soft black hat and dark clothes. 4. About 30 years, sandy hair and moustache, beard on chin ; wore dark clothes and soft black hat. The height cannot be given of any, all being sitting on an outside car, driven by a man between 35 and 40 years, red bloated face, with a few days' growth of beard on; dark or brown coat, supposed frieze, and low soft black hat. The horse was a bay or chestnut, of good action, and the car had either a dark green or a red panel. The men had the appearance of sailors or well- to- do artisans.— JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. PARTICULARS relative to convict John Desmond, 14,776, convicted at, Macroom, county Cork, at the Quarter Sessions, on the 17th April, 1878, for assault with intent to rob, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 35 years of age on conviction, is a Roman Catholic, married, has two children, is a repairer of fishing tackle, born in Barrack- street, Cork, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside; brown hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, average make, 5 feet 3f inches high, has a cut- mark over each eyebrow. This man was released on licence from Spike Island Prison, 19th May, 1882, and went to reside at Queenstown, He has failed to report himself to the Police on change of residence, and his present whereabouts are unknown. YouDg offenders, John Fyfe and William J. Tate, described in Hnp- snd- Cry of 15th September last, have not been arrested. Belfast. DESCRIPTION of Elizabeth Anne Rice, native of 56, Abyssinia- street, Belfast, who left her home at 56, Abyssinia- street, Belfast, on the 17th October, 1R82 in the barony of Upr » er Belfast, parish of Shankhill. and has not since been heard of, and it is supposed some accident has befallen her, or has been taken away by some person :— Blue eyes, short nose, fair complexion, round face, slight make, 4 feet high, about 11 years of age, dark brown hair cut short i wore a dark navy blue dress", with kilty plaiting, and a large Paisley shawl, a little faded; had no boots on. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Hickey, native of Lahinch, who stands charged with having, on the night of nth or morning oi 7th August. l » t< 2, in the barony of of Corcomroe, parish of Kilmanaheen, stolen two sheep, the property of Patrick Lynch, of Ennis- tymon:— Slightly stooped shoulders, slouchiog gait, holds his head down, and generally keeps his hands in trowsers pockets when walkiag, dark eyes, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard round hat, long dirk coat, tweed trowsers and vist; is a butcher. Ennistymon, Nov, 14, 1889. ( 53640 o.— 7617.) DESCRIPTION of James Fitzgerald ( mother's sur- name Hassett), native of Kilfeeragh, who stands charged with having, on tbe 2l » t day of October, 1889, in tho barony ot Mogarta, parish of Kilfeeragh, assaulted Patrick Gorman, by striking him on the head with a spade, thereby placing his life in danger :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, smooth face, medium make, 5 fret 8 inches high, about 90 years of age, fair hair; wore a jerry hat, frieze coat, cord trosrsers, and tweed vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Bride, native of Fermoy, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of October, 1889, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Anne's, seriously assaulted Daniel Leary by striking him on the head so ss to fracture his skull:— Old cut mark supposed under left eve, black eyes, long nose, pale complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 18 years of age, brown hair; wore a soft black hat, long frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, aud tweed vest; is a tinker. DESCRIPTION of Samuel O'Donnell, native of Meenagowan, who stands charged with having, on the 8ih October. 1882, at Lettermacaward, in the barony of Boylagh, parish of Lettormacaward, absconded from the service of Lanty Hanlon, Letter- macaward, taking with him £ 4 which he received for his master but failed to give him:— Down- looking appearance, round shoulMrs. an^ awkward gait, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age dark hair, small dark moustache, with rest of face shaved; wore a jerry hat, black coat, dark trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 24th or morning of the 25th October, 1882, in the barony of Lower Iveagh, parish of Dromore, stolen out of a field at Coolsallagh, two bullocks, the property of John Morrow, which he afterwards sold to William Fishbourne, of Bally- nahinch :— Respectable appearance, cheek bones rather high, sharp chin, small hands, soft and white as if unus'd to work, small eyes, regular no< « e, fresh complexion, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark hair and BIT. all light moustache ; wore a low hard bat, dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of harness, the property of Major- General George De Renzy, of Willbrook House, which was stolen from his stable, on the lands of Willbrook, parish of Rathfarnham, barony of Rath- down, on the 3rd November, 1882 :— One single set of silver- mounted harness, crest " rampant lion"; value for about £ 10. Is supposed to have been brought for sale to some part of the county Wicklow within the last few days. The crest has been removed, but the mark of it probably remains on the harness. Two- men are suspected, but no de- scription can be given. Dundrum, Nov. 15, 1882. ( 54790 C.— 5551.) DBSCSIPTIOS of James Rooney, native of Moynalty, county Meath, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 4- th inst., in the barony of Balrothery East, parish of Ballyboghil, stolen a bay mare, the property of T. P. Byrne, Esquire, j p., of Bally- boghil :— Smart figure, swarthy dark sullen com- plexion, thin dark hair on face, 6 feet 9 inches high, about 36 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, dark jacket, dark blue trowsers, and dark blue Guernsey ; shirt had on a broad- webbed belt with small leather pouches sewed on same. Sailor- like appearance, silent manner, and looked and spoke as if somewhat simple; always said he was years at sea ; is a labourer. Balbriggan, Nov. 9, 1882. ( 54736 5499.) DESPCRITION of William Hoey, native of Chapelizod, Dublin, and Richard Quinn and James Dowdall, natives of St. Lawrence, county Dublin, who stand charged with having, on the 6th October, 1892, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Palmerstown, assaulted and intimidated Bernard Kelly and Francis Reilly, when at their lawful employment on the lands of Quarryvale:— 1. Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a round jerry hat, corduroy coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer, and generally attends masons. 2. Tender gray eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; wore a mole- skin jacket and trowsers ; is a labourer.. 3. In- kneed, brown eyes, regular nose, swarthy, complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 92 years of age, black hair ; wore a corduroy coat, trowsers, and vest ; is a labourer. Warrants have been issued for the arrest of accused, and are in possession of D. M. Police, and R. I. C. at Palmerstown, in this district. Lucan, October 30, 1882. ( 54621 o— 5383.) James Dunne ( name supposed fictitious) ( sheep stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 6th October, 1881. Fermanagh. Benjamin Hawtrey ( stealing), described in Hue- and Cry of 13th October, 1882, has not been arrested. Galway. DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th June, 1882. WHEREAS at or about the hemr of twenty minutes past three o'clock, P. M., on Thursday, the 8th June, instant, Walter M. Bourke, Esq., of Rahassane Park, Craughwell, in the county of Galway, and Corporal Wallace, of the Royal Dragoons, were shot dead on the road close to one ol the gates of Castle Taylor Demesne, near Ardrahan, in the said county, by some person or persons at present unknown : His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of these Murders, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons, or any of them, who committed the said Murders. And a further reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. His Excellency is also pleased to offer in addition to the above rewards a FREE PARDON and the Special Protection of the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions to any person concerned in, or privy to, the said Murders other than the person or persons who actually committed the same, in case of his giving such information as shall lead to the con- viction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the Murders aforesaid. And whereas any person who knowingly receives into his-* or her house or otherwise harbours or maintains any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or conceals or aids any of them in escaping or endeavouring to escape from justice becomes liable to penal servitude for life : His Excellency is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the CONVICTION of any person who has so received, harboured, maintained, or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from justice, or who shall receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from justice, any of the persons who committed the said Murders. By His Excellency's Command, R. G. C. HAMILTON. The above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by D. B. Franks, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Gort, to those who may become entitled to them under the conditions of this Proclamation. STOLEN from the cabin of the vessel " Orion," now lying at Kilkerrin, in the parish of Moyrus, and barony of Ballinahinch, between the hours of 7 and 9 a. m., on 2nd instant, a silver lever watcb, No. 21,780, the property of Thomas Smith, mat* of said vessel; value for £ 4 10s. Roundstone, Nov. 6, 1882. ( 54341 o.— 5423.) The cattle belonging to Bartley Walsh, and described in Hue- and- Cry of 30th of last June, have been recovered, and Patrick Reilly arrested. Ignatius Kelly, James Kelly, Michael Rogerson, John Rogerson, and Patrick Touhy ( attempt to blow up a gentleman's residence with dynamite), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 25th July, 1882. Kildare. DESCRIPTION of John Nolan, native of 93, St. Andrew- street, Dublin, who has left his home, and being of unsound mind, may have committed suicide. He was last seen at Newbridge, on the 3rd instant:— Deranged in head, sore foot, which causes him to walk lame, long dark brown beard, bald on top of head, dark complexion, thin worn face, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark blue top coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a baker. Kildare, Sept. 18, 1882. < 54510 o.— 4987.) John Cross ( arson), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, lst September, 1889. King's. DESCRIPTION of tbe undernamed articles, which were stolen from the dwelling- house of Daniel Carroll, situate ia the townland of Cloneygannagh, parish of Dunkerrin, and barony of Clonlisk, by means of burglary, on night of 8th or morning of 9< h October, 1F89, viz :— One grayish colour waterproof overcoat; one dark tweed frock coat, much worn and faded; one pair of men's nailed lace- up boots, very much worn. Supposed to have been committed by itinerant tinkers who were recently in the neighbourhood, and may pawn one or any of these articles. Shinrone, Nov. 14, 1882. ( 64773 c.— 5509.) Peter Clarke ( young offender), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th October, 1882. Patrick Connell ( young offender), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 13th October, 1882. Leitrim. DESCRIPTION of two persons, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 97th October, 1882, in the barony of Mohill, parish of Cloone, appeared disguised and with blackened faces, and armed with guns, visited the bouses of Archibald and Arthur Nicholl, of Drumhore, and forcibly took away two guns and a pistol from said houses, the property of said Archibald and Arthur Nicholl:— 1. Blackened face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of aga, no beard or whiskers ; wore a fl it cap, and a cloak over shoulders. 2. Blackened face, slight make, 5 feet 10 inches hi^ h, about 20 years of age, no beard; wore a hat like a policeman's helmet, corduroy trowsers, and a bag over his shoulders. Description of arms stolen :— 1. The property of Archibald Nicholl— A single- barrel muzzle- loading fowling- piece, pipes for ramrod tied with wax end round barrel, a small piece of ailver on stock near hammer; value for £ 1 15s. 2. The property of Arthur Nicholl— A double- barrel muzzle loading fowling- piece one nippel larger than the other, stock broken between the locks ; value for £ 3. 3. A double- barrel muzzle- loading pistol; value for £ 1. Mohill, November 1, 1882. ( 64317 5379) Limerick^ DESCRIPTION of three men, names unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 31st August, 1882, stolen the sum of twenty pounds ten shillings, the property of Mrs. Margaret Hennessy, from her dwelling- house, in the barony of Lower Connello, parish of Kilscannell:— 1. Very tall. no hair on face; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat, and white flannel drawers. 2. About 6 feet 3 inches in height, black whiskers with rest of face shaved ; wore a jerry hat and dark clothes. 3. About middle height, no hair on face ; wore a jerry hat and dark clothes. DeScrIPTION of Robert Johnston, convict on licence, native of Londonderry, who stands charged with having failed to report himself to Police at Coleraine :— Gray eyes, dark complexion, oval face, thin make, 6 feet 5 j inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown hair; fractured nose with blue scar, three scars on top of head, one back left side of head, blue dot back right hand, scar on first and end of third finger right hand, tattoo cross on left wrist, two anchors inside wrist, blue mark Back left hand. DKIIBIPTION of Charles Reid, native of Wallace- row, Yellowbatter, who, on the 6th November, 1883, left his home, in the barony of Ferrard, parish ot St. Peter's, and as he has not since been heard of, it is feared some ill may have befallen him:— Tender brown eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 iaches high, about 46 or 47 years of age, brown hair and whiskers turning gray ; wore a fur cap, dark frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, and d& rk vest; is a labourer; served for 31 years in the army mind supposed to be weak. M., on the 2nd April last, Mrs. Henry Smythe was shot dead- in the demesne at Barbavilla, in the county of Westmeath, by some person or persons at present unknown: His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same, or any of them. And a further reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result.
