No. 6848 WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1882. r' * \ Notice.— It U requested that all communications tor ths purpose ot obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of ths person riquiriny or sending tho same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Polio* Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is givon, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of ths Offencs charged, and an attested oopy thereof, together with ths advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and o( Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 5!) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. Thoy should be signed cr accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should oontain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. * Wanted at Carlisle, for assault and robbery committed . on 13th instant:— JOSEPH TROTTER, lately a game- keeper, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light X brown or auburn hair, red whiskers all round, no moustache, light grey staring eyes, ordinary build, smart appearance; < dressed in dark suit, billycock hat, blue necktie with white spots, heavy lace boots, is a native of Dumfrieshire, and speaks with a broad Scotch accent. The articles stolen have been reoovered, with the exception of a dark leather purse contain- ing £ b in Gold, and a few shillings in Silver. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police Office, Carlisle, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 17. L. • r~. —: BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking on l~ ih instant, at Tormarton :— about 2( 5 lb. of Bacon, ( the gammon half of a Hitch), in an unbleached calico bag, dirty and iron mould — arka on it; an old pair of female's Shoes, lace- up in front : old black Coat, much worn and faded, pocketo on hips and ide breast; a white calico Shirt, buttons sewed on with I cotton ; a blue cotton Pocket- handkerchief, with spots ; and two tame Rabbits, the colour of wild ones. A man and y£ uth of the following description are suspected :— 1st, about ,/ M years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, very much pock- irked, heavy moustache, ( supposed false) ; dressed in long rk overcoat, hard bowlgr hat, dark trousers', red stockings, ' laee- up boots ; 2nd, about 16 years of age, 5' feet 2 inches high ; dressed in dark overcoat, guernsey, brown bowjer hat, and coid trousers. They went in the direction of Bath, and appear to know that town well, and had been Binging eong » about the double murder in Somersetshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen by means of burglary on 14th instant, at Hales- wen- street, Oldbury a silver lever Watch, jewelled in four iBge holes ; two silver Geneva ditto; three verge ditto ; a Iver lever ditto,. Derrick, of Bradford Leigh, was — ly entered dutiiig the night of thll3th instant, and a uelea stolen, viz.:— 2 black rib cloth Over? coats; a dark ribbed Jacket, has been torn on the shoulder ; 2 nearly new alpacca Umbrellas ; a pinchbeck Watch, without glass, and long hand broken; a large size black and white plaid Shawl, with fringe ; several pairs of black silk and other Stockings ; a Japan Lamp ; four 2 lb. Loaves ; several paper bags of Flour, bags marked ' E. H. Giddings ;' » mall quan- tities of Suet, Beef, Mutton and Cheese, and 2 flag Baskets with ropes on the hardies. Supposed by tramps. Inclina- tion to Mr. Supt. White, Wilts Constabulary,' Trowbridge. — Bow- street, November 15. Stolen between 11 p m. 13th, and 7 a. m." 14th instant, from the house of Mr. Harding, Rookswood, Redhill:— a small leather Purse, containing 12 Stamps, the purse was sort of oblong shape, with gilt metal all round it, and snaps that pressed inwards. Information to Mr. S'. ipt. George Rogers, Redhill.— Bow- street, November 15. Stolen at Aston, on 12th instant :— a lady's silver Geneva Watch, No. 50061, ' M. A. B.' engraved on case; a round gold Brooch ; a gold cameo Brooch ; a pair of gold Ear- rings ( plain); a lady's gold Keeper ; and about £ i in Money, total value £ 12 ; tho property of Joseph Badam's, 89, Clifford- street, Aston. Information to Mr. Supt. Walker, Police Station, Aston, near Birmingham. — Bow - street, November 15. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The chestnut Pony, advertised in Police Gazette of 15th instant, as stolen from Godalming, on 2ist ultimo, has been found straying at Liphook, Hants, and restored to its owner. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Con- stabulary, Guildford.— Bou- slreet, November 22. Stolen at Cannock on 15th instant:— a light brown Mare, about 14 hands high, rough coat, white star on forehead, saddle marks, large cut mark on near hip, a little above the hock, blind in one eye, aged, and in fair condition. Informa- tion to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills, near Walsall, or to Sergeant Cockerell, Police Office, Cannock, near Stafford.— Bow- street, November 22, Wanted, under a Sheriff'a warrant, charged with having on night of 13th instant, stolen a Horse and a Bridle ( both recovered), from the stable at Tomnagairn Farm, near Dun- keld :— WM. MACFARLANE, cattle dealer in a small way, and attends Auction Marts, Sales, & c,, native of Aberfeldy, Perthshire, 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, black hair, cut short, small whiskers, shaved on chin, and wears moustache, short neck and stout make; dressed in dark tweed coat, vest and trousers, all of same cloth, black felt hat, lacing boots with tackets, and carried an umbrella ; has served recently a few months in the police ; is particularly fond of police society, and is almost certain to be again seek- ing employment in the police service. Accused sold the Horse in Crieff early on morning of 14th current. Informa- tion to John Dodd, Chief Constable of Perthshire.— Bow- street, November 22. Stolen from a field at Wennington, on night of 14th instant:— a dark bay cart Gelding, 3 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, star on forehead, long tail, and slightly ruptured. Information to Mr. Supt. Dobson, Brentwood, or to Inspector Simmon?, Police Office, Romford, Essex.— Bow- street, November 20. Charged with stealing three Heifers:— a man, tall, slender build, pale thin face; dressed in long blue jacket or slop, such as butchers wear, and black felt hat. He was seen driving the stolen heifers ( since recovered), on the Huntingdon Road, in the direction of Chester, at 7 a. m., on 24th ult. Also seen to get into a train for Manchester, at Chester Central Railway Station, on 27th ult. Information to Mr. Supt. Plant, Constabulary Station, Broxton, Cheshire,— Bow- street, November i7. Charged with stealing a Heifer ( recovered), at Ilkeston, on 4th instant:— WILLIAM alias THOMAS BENNETT, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, dark eyep, black hair, whiskers, and moustache ; was dressed in a brown overcoat, with velvet collar, grey coat underneath, brown spotted or figured vest, brown cord trousers, all in good condition, hard black felt hat, lace- up boot?, generally wears a red neckerchief, which he passes under his braces, and ties on his chest; he is a labourer, and a native of Long Bennington, Lincolnshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Hancock, Langley Mill, Nottingham,— Eov- street, November 17. ** Stolen from Epping, on morning of 12th inst. :— a red roan Colt, rising three years, not shod or worked. Also a brown nag Mare, rising 6 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, star on forehead, long arched neck, well made, three white feet, shod under on hind feet, no nails on inside of hind shoes. Stolen at Cholmondely, between 23rd ultimo and 4th instant :— aj Heifer, light colour, light strawberry neck, and short horns, coming 2 years old. Information to Supt. CHARLES DAY, native of West Chinnock, who is wanted at Poole, for stealing a Horse and Trap, on 3rd instant ( since recovered at Blandford) ;— 19 or 20 years of age, about 5 feet S) inches high, full face, no whiskers or moustache, fresh com- plexion ; dre3sed in serge jacket such as worn by yachtsmen, pilot cloth trousers, bowler hat; carrying a dark coat, and a black leather bag. Information to Chief Constable Stephen Hunt, Poole, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion,— I on- street, November 15. Stolen on night of 10th instant, from a field near Rom- ford, Eaeex :— a black cart Mare, aged, 13 hand3 high, small star on forehead, hair chaffed off near shoulder, value £ 8, fresh shod. Information to Mr. Supt. Dobson, Brentwood, or to Inspector Simmons, Romford, Essex.— Bow- stNov. 15. Absconded from Llanfyllin, about the 5th instant, charged under the Bailee Act with stealing a Mare :— RICHARD LEWIS, alias DICK THE TINMAN, a horsebreaker, about 34 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, sandy hair, out very short, small vi hiskers, grey eyes, walks erect; dressed in a black cloth jacket, sometimes long great coat, white cotton cord breeches and leggings, he is well known at Wolverhamp- ton, and other Markets, and is likely to be found with some low horsedealer, he was seen at Chester Fair on 9th instant. Information to Mr. Ellis, Supt., Welshpool, or N. Edwards, P. C., Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, who holds a warrant for his appreher sion.— Bow- street, November 1&. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Wanted on a warrant, charged with embezzlement :— JAMES WESTON, of 2, Bella Vista Villas, Upper Gordon- road, Chase Side, Enfield, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 0 inches high, stout, fair, sandy hair, moustache, whiskers, and beard, long; dressed in brown overcoat, and high black hat, respectable appearance ; well known at Bow and City. In- formation t'. Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department.. City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, London.— Bow- streei, November 22. Wanted at Chasetown, charged with stealing £ 1 4s. 6d. in Silver, from lodgings, on 19th instant:— a man about 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black hair, dark com- plexion, no whiskets or moustache, round face, and blind with right eye ; dressed in black cloth jacket, dark silk vest, brown tweed cloth trousers, strong lace- up boots, with tips on the heel3, and a blacK billycock hat; supposed to be a native of Birmingham. Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills, near Walsall.— Bow- street, November 22. Wanted for stealing from a cottage at Binfield, on 11th instant, £ 9 in Gold :— ALICE HILL, 19 years of age, 5 feet high, stout build, black hair, blue eyes ( full), pale complexion, hair cut short over forehead, has a slight impediment in her speech ; dressed in black dress, black cape, hat turned up on one side, white flowers, button boots, large feet; is known to P. C. 355, W Division, Mrtropolitan Police. Information to Inspector Atkin, Berks Constabulary, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 22. Wanted at Newport, Monmouth, charged on a warrant with embezzling £&, the money of his employer Mr. Samuel Goss, oil merchant :— DAVID WHITMARSH, traveller and collector, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, thin features, light hair, cut very short at back, very small whiskers, long moustache, curled at ends ; respectably dressed ; he left Newport on the 15th instant, is well known in Monmouthshire; he will probably endeavour to leave the country. Information to Mr. Sinclair, Chief of Police, Newport, Monmouthshire.—• Bow- street, November 22. Wanted on a warrant, charged with stealing on 11th instant, at Acle, a silver Geneva patent lever Watch, 1 Patent lever' stamped on inside case, No. 67339, engine- turned back, white metal Albert Chain, with two brass Keys attached ; the property of Philip Chase, of Acle, engine stoker :— HERBERT FULCHER, native of Wymondham, Norfolk, 17 or 18 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair and eyes, long neck, sets hi3 shoulders up when walking, splay footed ; dressed in blue guernsey, brown trousers, with black stripe down legs, heavy boote, almost reaching the knee, and brown sou- wester hat; he has been traced to Norwich, where he pawned the watch on the evening of the robbery, which was taken out again about an hour after, by a countryman, of whom no description can- be given; Fulcher may seek employment on new railways, or other public works, or go to sea. Information to Mr. Supt. William Basham, Acle, Norfolk.— Bow- sireet, November 22. Absconded from Nawworth Castle, Brampton, on 12th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing a Cheque, value £ 9 18s. ( recovered)— ALFRED PEARCE, a groom, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slender build, dark complexion, dark brown hair cut short, clean shaved, except very smali whiskers on side of face, smart appearance ; dressed in black ribbed cloth coat and vest, light grey trousers, hard felt bat, and lace- up boots. His parents reside at White waif, near York; and he will most likely seek employment as groom or helper in livery stables. Information to Mr. Supt. Russell, Brampton, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle. — Bow- street, November 23. Description of JOHN ROBINSON SIMMONS, coffee- house keeper, of Thorne, wanted on warrant for embezzle- ment:- he left Thorneon 14th inst., and came about 4 yrs. ago, from Manchester, to reside at Thome, haying been employed in the former town as a printer, he also livel at Rotherham, Glasgow, and other pl& cos ; about 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout build, round shoulders, fresh com- \ 2 POLICE GAZETTE. Sykes, Superintendent, Doncaster.— Bow- street, November 22. Absconded from Smallthorne in August last, charged on warrant with larceny ( by bailee) of an Harmonium :— EMANUEL AMBROSE, miner, 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 ins. high, fresh complexion, dark hair, bushy whiskers and moua tache ( which may be shaved off), and medium build; a native of Kidsgrove, Staffordshire. Supposed to be working at Ruabon, North Wales, and living with his wife and two ehildren, boy and girl, at Henry Slater's, near the railway station, Ruabon. Iuformation to Mr. Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem, who holds a warrant for hia apprehension.— Boio- street, November 20. Description of WILLIAM SPATE, a collier or labourer, wanted ou warrant for stealing £ 21 12s. 6d.:— he is 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, slight moustache, proportionate build, and born at Hanley; stammers when talking, and leans forward when walking. Information to Chief Constable Windle, Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 20. Stolen on 17th instant, from a lodging- house at Marl- borough :— a pair of dark cord Trousers, faded brown with lime, has a small hole burnt in front of right leg. By a man ( who left an old pair of cord trousers behind), 30 years of age, 8 feet 8 inches high, light complexion and hair, little ginger whiskers and moustache, imperial on chin ; dressed iu old brown cloth coat, with pockets behind, soft black billycock hat, strong lace- up boots, and the stolen trousers ; by trade a bricklayer. Stolon from a house at Stoke- on- Trent, between 8 a. m. 18th and 3 p. m. 19th instant:— a silver English Lever Watch, number supposed 6032, makers name not known ; a gold albert Chain, ornamental link pattern, 9- carat stamped on swival and bar, maltese cross and a swivel seal attached; a gold signet Ring, set green stone; a silver gilded Ring, carved ; a black worsted Coat, pockets behind, one out left, and ous inside right breast, ticket pocket right side, Vest same material; a pair of light tweed Trousers. By a man and woman who lodged at the house one night, the man is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, black hair aud moustache, no whiskers, thin face, appears to be consumptive ; dressed in dark clother, brown hard felt hat, red muffier. Stated he was a barber, and had been iu business at Mid- dleton in Lancashire. The woman is about 25 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, hair cut short behind ; dressed in black dress-, with black satin stripe round centre of skirt, black cloth jacket, black hat with black feather, stated her father had been a butcher at Ashton- uuder- Lyme, she had a baby with her about 8 months old. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent.— Bow- street, November 20. Description of FREDERICK FOSTER alias JARVEY, late of North Weald Bassett, Essex, labourer, charged on war- rant with stealing a Load of Hay, on 17th August last:— he is about 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair, and alight dark moustache, no whiskers, dark Complexion, accompanied by a girl, name of Alice Doo^ erell, about 19 yra. of age, tall and stout. Information to Superintendent lennon, Constabulary Office, Epping, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, November 17. Description of a man ( several aliases), charged with stealing between 9th and 16th ultimo, a valuable Seal ( recovered) :— 36 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, dark hair and eyes, brown moustache and whiskers ( slight), chin shaved ; dressed in dark coat and vest, grey trousers, black felt hat, of gentlemanly appearance, an organist; is in the habit of calling on organists and other members of the musical profession, representing himself to be the son or nephew of some well known organist or organ builder, that he is at the present time organist of either Liverpool or Montreal, Cauada, and during th, e temporary absence of the person he calls upou, abstracts whatever valuable articles may bo near, and under the pretence of having lost his purse, obtains an advance of money; he farther states he nas had a letter of introduction from some well known person in the musical world, but has unfortunately- lost it. Information to the Director of Criminal Investiga- tions, Great Scotland Yard.— Metropolitan Police, Nov. 17. Absconded from Boston, on 14th instant, charged on warrant with stealing £ 70 and some Account Books: — FREDERICK JOHN BREWSTER, a lawyer's clerk, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout and broad set, full fair features, and pleasant looking, mouth rather large and lips thick, brown hair, cut short, aud had a moust& che when he left, but no whiskers ; dressed in dark grey cloth clothes, generally wearing a loose coat, aud hard black felt hat very backward on his head. He has a swinging walk and carries his bead up; is fond of gambling. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, Boston, Lincolnshire,—• flow- siree', Nov. 17. Absconded from Wigton, on 14th instant, charged on a warrant with stealiug £ 30 in Gold :— JOSEPH PYLE or PILE, about 22 years of age, 6 feet high, stout and bony made, fresh complexion, no whiskers or moustache, native of Greeuaide, near Newcastle, where his father is postmaster; he speaks_ the Northumberland dialect, and is respectably mation to Superintendent Oliver, Police Station, Consett, County of Durham.— Bow- street, November 17. Stolen during the night of 7th instant, from a vessel lying at the River Head, Louth : — a brown cloth Jacket, nearly new; a pair of old grey cloth Trousers ; a pair of Wellington or sea Boots, have been mended ; also a grey cloth cutaway shooting Jacket, pocket outside left breast, brown cloth Veat, part worn, which have been recovered. By r man, about 30 or 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 10 inches high small brown whiskers and moustache ; dressed in sealskin or hairy cap, long brown overcoat, blue guernsey, fearnought or flannel trousers, will be wearing the stolen boots ; a pair of similar boots to the stolen one's were left behind. Informa- tion to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Louth, Lincolnshire — Bow- street, November 15. Stolen between 11 and 12 a. m. on 11th instant, from Cae Valley House, Festiniog :— a pair of Water Tights, size nearly new, with sparables in the soles, and steel tips, black eyelet- holes, four or live hooks on top, one hook missing on the left side of the left shoe. Supposed stolen by tramps :— ( 1) about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, whiskers about 3 weeks growth; dressed in a lont blue faded coat, grey tweed faded trousers, low crown felt bat; (- 2) about 22 yaara of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, no whiskers or moustache, fair complexion, light brown hair ; dressed in dark clothes, and a cloth cap, all much worn; ( 3) about 22 or 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion ; dreaaed iu a dark faded coat, moleskin trousers, cloth cap, and old elastic boots.
