Notice*— It is requested that ail communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. •„• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to beforo a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed cr accompanied by a letter, signed by tf. ie persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Whereas, on 3rd instant, the dead body of a newly born female child was found in a field at Consett, wrapped in a white cotton pillow- slip, with two tape strings at each side of one end. and covered over with some stones. At the inquest on 5th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown ' was returned. Notice is hereby given, that £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, to any pa- son other than a person belonging to a police force in the United Kingdom, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any acoomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to James Oliver, Supt., Police Station, Consett, Durham.— Bow- street, October 13. Found about 9 a. m. 6th instant, in the Rochdale Canal, at Newton : — a male child ( new born), quite naked, umbilical cord cut close to body and not tied, the body does not appear ti have been in the water long, it now lies at the Lock House, Church- street, Newton. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, October 11. Whereas on 28th ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born full grown female Child was found in the Gill Cemetery, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, wrapped iu a piece of brown paper, a piece of a woman's plain calico nielit dress, aud two pieces of cotton print sowed together, apparently part of a counterpane, one piece dark lilac, and the other blue ground, with blue and white diagonal stripes and brown flowers. The Coroner's Jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' Her Majesty's government will pay £ 50 reward to any person ( other than a person be- longing to a police force iu the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the dis- covery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the Murder, who shall give such evidence as Bhall lead to a like result. Wanted in Northampton, charged with malicious wounding, with intent to murder, on 5th instant:— a clerk, 19 years of age, 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, thin build, fair complexion, and light hair; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, dark trousers, black felt hat, all very shabby, blue and white night shirt, and supposed to be without shoes. Information to H. Keenau, Chief Constable, Northampton.— Bow- street, October 9. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person between Newcastle- under- Lyme and Silverdale, on 9ih instant:— a lady's silver Geneva Watch, No. 14655, silver dial, maker's name not known. Information to Mr. James Hall, Supt. of Police, Tunstall, Stoke upon- Trent, or to Sergeant Dodd, Silverdale, Newcas- tle- under- Lyme.— lo> i - street, October 13. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 12 and 5 p. m. on 9th instant, :— A black cloth Coat, pockets on hips ; a pair of black cloth Trousers; a black velvet Vest, with glass buttons ; a large Table Knife, wooden handle ; a,. d a small quantity of pickled Pork. Supposed by a tramp, from 50 to 60 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, medium siz<! ; dressed in an old pilot jacket, ccrd trousers, and billycock hat. Information to Mr. Supt. Peer- less, Uckfield, Sussex, or. to any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, October 13. During the night of 9th instant, the Booking Office of the Great Northern Railway Station, St. Albans, was entered and 4s. lljd. in Coppers, £- 2 9s. in Silver, and a brown paper Parcel, containing a pair of manV Boots, stolen therefrom. The Boots, one of tops grain hide leather, have pointed toes and toecaps, eyelets and brass hooks, leather lined, loops at back, sewn to top with yellow thread forming the letter 1K,' soles have two rows of nails, one small, the other larpe, sunk in leather, and stamp hydrons, waterproof leather, registered— and stamp— imitation pair of shoes crossed in the centre, ono other stamp the glacier waterproof and letter 1K,' ' 7, 3, A' on soles ; a row of large nails sunk in leather and figure ' 7' stamped in lieel. The soles are wide and project at the welts beyond the upper leathers, round leather laces in the eyelet holes. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, Police Office, St. Albans, or to Mr. Richd. Williams, Great Northern Station, King's Cross, Lotdon.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen from a dwelling- house, at . Rawtenstall, between 1 and 2 p. m. 4th instant :— a brown leather Purse, with an elastic band ronnd it., containing 3s. 6d. in Money, a small satchel Key, and a Rawtenstall Local Board Demand Note. Information to County Police Office, Bacup, Lancashire.— — Bow- street, October 11. Stolen by means of burglary, at the Queen's Arms public house, Crondall, on 5th inst. :— about £ 20 in Gold and Silver, including a Sovereign of Geo. III. ; a yellow big Purse, with partition ; 2 old silver Watches, one maker ' Hathaway, Odiham,' the other ' Gregory, Basingstoke,' steel Chaiu and Keys attached to one of them ; a Receipt for £ 160 iu the Lon- don and County Bank ( Farnham Branch) ; aCertificateof Mar- riage between John Hall and Harriett Silver, dated Nov. 6, 1834 ; a Fire Insurance Policy in Alliance Oflhe; a single- barrel Pistol ; and the Will of John Hall, in favour of Harriett Hall. Supposed by two men, who were in the house about three weeks previous : 1st, from 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, and slight figure ; dressed in dark coat, da>- k overcoat, and black hard hat. 2nd,• about 30 years of age, rather short and stout; dressed in dark short coat and black hard hat. They had in their possession a Railway ABC Guide and a map, and had the appearance of card sharpers. It is believed they came from the nighbourhood of Whitechapel or Strat- ford by Bow, London. Stolen in Sheffield, between 6 p. m. and 8 p. m. on 8th instant, by means of housebreaking :— a brown leather Purse, edged with silver, chased, containing £ 2 Is.; a garnet Brooch, with small pendant of leaves ; a plain coral Chain, and a coral Brooch ; a small tortoiseshell and feather Brooch, fan- shaped ; an enamel Brooch, a square picture in centre, a Snow Mountain; a silver Brooch, three leaves in centre; a sil/ er Locket, with monogram ' J. E. R.' ; a silver Chain, plain links; a gold Necklet, old Brussels work, with pendants, clasp behind ; a gold Necklet, set with turquoises, clasp in front shape hand holding a pendant ; two gold Bracelets, set with thiee turquoises each, and has square gold clasps ; a silver Chain, cable pattern, p'ain, has lai- je plain silver Locket attached, which contains the photos' of two gentlemen ; a plain silver Bracelet, an inch wide, fastens with pin ; a small gold Cross, filigree pattern ; a small gold Chaiu, very small finks ; a silver Ring, shape of bangle, three coil ; a dark blue enamel Brooch, with small bird in white enamel; a silver Chain, with small Locket attached, containing photo of a dog; a large silver shawl Brooch, plain ; and a silver Biooch, half ball in centre, with silver twisted round it. Stolen at Fareham, by means of housebreaking, on 8th instant:— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, no secends hand, single case ; 2 £ 5 Bank of England Notes ; an old- fashioned gold Geneva Watch, white dial, gold hands, maker ' Spurrier, Wimborne,' encased ; a massive old- fashioned gold Ring, with pearls, hair, and initials ' M. C.' in centre ; 2 Sovereigns ; about 30 old foreign Coins, including a 7s. gold piece, and 2 gold Coins of smaller [ value ; a lady's gold Ring, red stoue in centre; a Purse, containing £ 2 ; a lady's cameo Brooch, female figure ; a lady's gold Chain, with Ring and Key attached ; an old silver Watch, marked ou works ' Johii Howell, Abbotts Ann,' a silver Guard attached. Supposed by 3 men, all about 28 years of age, two about 6 feet high, and fair, one about 5 feet 8 irches high, and dark, all of medium build, aud dressed in black frock coats, black fell, hats, and dark trousers ; the short man carried a black hand- bag. Information to Mr. Supt. Kinshott, Hants Constabu- lary, Fareham.— Bow- street, October lt. Stolen by means of burglary between 11 p. m. on 5tb and 6 a. m. on 6th instant, from Park Cottage, Sandiwav, Weaverham :— a browu cloth shooting Coat, much worn, two pockets outsideJ and one inside left breast; two pairs of men's elastic side Boots, part worn; two black alpacca Umbrellas, part worn ; two black felt Hats, blue lining ; a tea Towel, with blue stripes ; about 20 lb. of Bacon ; also a very old- fashioned Cup and Saucer, of foreign manufacture. Information to Mr. Supt. Naylor, Constabulary Office, Oak- mere, Northwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, October 9. Stolen by means of officebreaking, between 10 p. m. on 2nd and 6 a. m. on 3rd instant at Flint:— six cakes of cavendish Tabacco, stamped, ' Adams, Montreal,' white metal plates affixed on the centre of each cake. An attempt was also made to force open the iron safe. Information to the Supt. of Police, Mold.— Bow- street, October 9- Stolen by means of burglary, at No. 73, High Street, Sedgley, on 4th instant :— a pair of man's half Wellington Boots, a few sprigs in soles, and nearly new ; a pair of boy's elastic- side Boots, much worn; a pair of boy's leather Leg- gings, spring sides ; a damask Tablecloth, very much worn ; three white Pocket Handkerchiefs, marked at corner ' M. Stolen by means of burglary, during the night of 2nd inst, at Kate's Hill, Dudley :— a black cloth Overcoat, single breasted, with black covered buttons, pockets on hips, and one inside left breast, maker's name, ' Samuel Waring, Dudley,' on collar loop; an old grey cloth, Overcoat, single- breasted, with light bone buttons, pockets on hips and one inside left breast, ' Samuel Waring, Dudley,' on collar loop; a pair of man's laced Boots, with brass eyelet holes and toe- capped ( nearly uew) ; also a tobacco Pouch, been sewn with olack cotton. Information to Mr. Chief Supt. Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, Oct. 6. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Nazeing, Essex, during the night of 20th ultimo u. bay carriage Horse, 10 or 12 years old, 16 hands high, jjsaddle marks, one white hind foot, square cut tail, low ou the pasterns when standing or walking, in good condition, and no shoes when stolen. £ 5 reward will be paid by the o wner, F. Palmer, Esq , 46, Spring Gardens, London, to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the Horse and conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to Supt. Lennon, Constabulary Office, Eppiug, Essex,— Bow- street, Oct. 13. The bay cob Mare, reported stolen from Abarcrane' Breconshire, on 5th instant, was found straying aud restored to the owner.— Bow- street, Octobcr 13. The Horse, Bridle, and Saddle, advertised in Police Gazette of 6th instant, as stolen from a stable at the New Market Tavern, Brecon, have been recovered, and the thief apprehenied.— Bow- street, October 13. Supposed stolen from a field at Compton Hall, Kinver, between 3 p. m. 6th and 10 a. m. 7th instant:— a store black face wether Sheep, Shropshire breed, marked on left side with coronet, and the letter ' S,' and on rump with the letter ' I' with black pitch. The property of the Earl of Stamford and Warrington. Information to Sergeant George Head, Police Station, Kinver, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, October 11. Stolen during the night of 5th or morning of Gth instant, at Whittou, near Stockton :— a dark chestnut Mare, 7 years old, 15 hands high, large white star ou face, sore place under mane, nearly blind of left eye, which is rather sunken, has beeu recently shod, aud is iu good condition. Iuformatiou to Mr. Supt. Bell, County Constabulary, Stockton- on- Tees.— Bow- street, October 11. Charged with stealing a Horse and Cart ( recovered) :— GEORGE NORTHCOTE, 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 ar 4 iuches high, light hair and compltxion, grey eyes w'th a small speck in one of them ; dressed iu dark grey suit of clothes nearly new, round hat, aud low shoes ; may seek employment as a stable- man or cabdriver, cf very drunken habit. Information to John Lynn, H. C , Devonport.— Bow- ttreet, October 9. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Description of ROBERT PARRY, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money, at Pershore, on 28th ultimo :— 28 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 iuches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, sandy coloured moustache, has a little hair on side of face, a native of Malvern, and a baker. Information to Mr. Supt. Kemp, Pershore, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, October 13, Wanted at Chelmsford, charged on warrant with stealing a Box of Cigars, aud a Princess of Wales' hand sewing 2 P O L I C E GAZETTE. October 13 Machine, nearly [ new ; the little plate let in with maker's name and number has a slight scratch upon it, and the Oil Can is new :— HARRY HARRISON, representing himself to be forming an agency in the book and print trade for Seely and Jackson, booksellers, Paternoster- ow, 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high, dark complexion, slight^ side whiskers cut close and square, short moustache curled at the ends, shaves his chin, hazel eyes, very gentlemanly appear- ance and address, and well educated ; when he talks the point of his nose bends down and shows a slight dimple; dressed in black fancy cloth coat and vest, brown trousers with slight light marks forming a plaid, and dark brown hard felt hat, scarf similar in appearance to the material of the trousers, aud pin with diamond in centre. He took a third class ticket for Liverpool Street, and was seen to enter a smoking compartment of the 2 35 a m. train on 4th inst., was then carrying a square box of light coloured wood, the name of ' Staines' written all over it in pencil, which contained the Sewing Machine, black handle at top and a paper label nailed on with four, tin tacks, and addressed ' Miss Stains, Island House, Springfield.' Also carrying a small black leather bag. Information to the Supt. of Police, Chelmsford.— Bow- street, October 11. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Peel Green, Barton, between G' 30 a, m. aud 6 30 p. m. 5th instant :— two lady's purple and white print Dresses, far worn. By a young woman who had lodged in the house since the 22ud Sept. last: — about 19 years of age, black hair, fresh complexion, dark eyes, about 5 feet 4 iuches high, gocd looking. Information to County Police Office, Old Tratford, Manchester.— Bow- st., October 11. Stolen on 7th instant, from a common lodging- house at Bridgnorth :— a pair of dark mixture woollen Trousers, men's size. By a tramping sailor, who stated he was going to Gloucester, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 iuches high, dark whiskers and moustache, turning grey ; dressed in blue cap, with peak, and brass button ou each side, blue cloth jacket, and good elastic- side boots ; tattooed on back of each band. Information to J. Cole, Borough Police Office, Bridg- north.— Bow- street, October 11. Stolen at Senny Bridge, Breconshire, during the night of 4th instant :— 1 pair of white moleskin Trousers, no lining ; 1 single- breasted Waistcoat, same material, ivory buttons, both nearly new ; 1 short duck Jacket, metal buttons ; 2 pairs men's knitted grey Stockings, white tops ; 2 pairs boys' ditto, 1 pair woman's ditto, all same colour; and 1 old stiiperi Pillow Case. Also, on the same night, ;> t Pentrefelin, 1 old Welsh flannel Shirt, lately repaired ; 1 English grey striped ditto, lately repaired on bottom with new material of a dif- ferent colour, both shirt fasten hehind : 1 white flannel Under Shirt, each shirt has the initials ' O. E.' in front; and 1 pair of grey ribbed Stockings, ' O. E.' on each. Supposed by a tramp, who had the appearance of a railway labourer, from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers cut short ; dressed in brown coat aud waistcoat, whiie moleskin trousers, and hat. Charged with stealing a white Ostrich Feather ; a lady's 1) 1 acik silk velvet Jacket ; a lady's grey Jacket, trimmed with brown velvet: a black French merino Dress trimmed with black velvet and 4 tassels ; a lady's Dress, light brown at top, the bottom dark brown; a black Orleans quilted Petticoat, braided with black velvet; a white flannel Petticoat; a brown calico Petticoat; a white calico Nightdress ; a calico Chemise; a Holland Apron ; a pair of woollen Stockings; a japanned Cash- box, containing 8s. 9d., a £ 5 Bank of England Note, and £ 20 to £ 25 in Gold :- - ELIZABETH SUTTON, 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh complexion, good looking, light brown hair, domestic servant, a native of Cilcen, Flint- shire, last residence, Castell Farm, Coleshill Fawr, Flint; dressed in a black straw hat, short white feather, light- coloured ulster. Warrant issued. Information to the Supt. of Police, Mold— Bow- street, October 9. Stolen from a field near Blair't- Chemical Works, Kersley, between 12 noon and 1 p. m. on 2nd instant:— 2 Potatoe Forks, each 4 prongs, which are squaie, marked on the iron part of the handles ' C. T. Snelton aud Co., Sheffield,' the back of one of them is marked with a wreath, and the other had a cut mark on the cross piece. By a man who was chased in the direction of Swinton, near Manchester, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, aud walks very erect; was dressed in old blue round cloth jacket, aud soft cap and clogs. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Holland, Boltou.— Bow- street, October 6. Charged with embezzlement: — GEORGE HARRIS, a travelling auctioneer, or cheap jack, 34 years of age, 5 ft. 6 iuches high, very blotchy face, and iarge scar on right cheek ; dressed iu black and white trousers, black coat and vest, and black round crowned hard felt hat. He is well known in Andover and Devizes, also at 17, King Street, Maidenhead, Berks, also at Vauxhall Flour Mills, London. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike, Surrey Constabulary, Farnham, wtio holds the warraut for his apprehension.— Bcno- street, October 6. Absconded abont 3 p. m. on 3rd instant, stealing £ 491 14s., consisting of four £ 100 Notes, four £ 20 Notss, two £ 5 Notes, and a £ 1 Aote, all of the Clydesdale Banking Company ( limited):- MATTHEW BUCHANAN, a law clerk, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slender make, black hair, almost bald, black whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, palej/ omplexion, delicate- looking, and speaks in a low tone of voice ; dressed in a dark coloured jacket suit, all made of same cloth, round felt hat, respectable appearance ; resided in Preston Street, Govauhill; has been drinking ; may be found in an hotel ; will probably frequent restaurants. Supposed to have no luggage. If arrested, an officer will be sent with warrant to lemove him. Information by wire to A. McCall, Chief Constable, Glasgow.— Bow- slreet, October 6. Description of HERBERT ASHBY, wanted on warrant for stealing 16 live tame Fowls aud 50 Pigeons on 8th ult. :— about 33 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, light brown hair, whiskers and moustache, blue eyes, fair complexion, scar on nose and on left cheek, has very short finger nails, of smart appearance, and a labourer; dressed in black frock coat, light brown trousers and vest, and round hard billy hat. He was convicted at Nottingham in April, 1881, and sentenced to 0 months h. 1. for stealing Jewellery on the Midland Railway, aud was apprehended at Stratford- on- Avon on that charge ; he has a wife living at Rugby. If found, telegraph to Inspector Bolt, Constabulary Station, East Norton, Leicester- shire.— bow- street, October 6. Stolen from the Rectory at Crakenhall, on lst instant, between 9 aud 10 a. m. :— a silver- plated fish Knife an Fork, two silver- plated table Spoons ; by a tramp, 34 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 iuches, brown hair, audjfiosh complexion ; dressed in a dirty brown coat and vest, moleskin trousers, strong boots, supposed native of Bradford. One of them carried a parcel bound with black leather, also a ticket book, containing names of respectable persons that they say they have had money from, the duplicate of each ticket remaining in. They obtain money for some one stated by them to be in trouble, and for whom they want to make up a certain amount. The 2nd man and the woman advertised in the Police Gazette of 25th ultimo, as wanted for conspiring to defraud tradespeople at Bridlington Quay, have been apprehended and committed for trial at East Riding Quarter Sessions at Beverley on 17th inst. They gave the names of GEORGF SIMPSON, 38 years of age, and MARY JACKSON 27 years of age, though stating they were i- an and wife.' It is believed he has gone under the following names in other places :— Wood, Eagletor, Guthrie, Coleman, Calling and Lynne ; his right name is E AG L ETON, and l, e formerly belonged to Norwich. The female has called herself Watson Wood, Wilson, Allwood, and Ellwood ; her correct name is believed to be MARY MAYNE. The principal man is still at large, ana brother to the man in custody.
