A PROCLAMATION. By the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland. SPENCER. WHEREAS Lord Frederick Charles Cavendish, the Chief Secretary, and Thomas Henry Burke, Esquire, the Under Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, were brutally murdered in the Phoenix Park, in the county of Dublin, on the evening of Saturday, the 8th May, 1882 : And whereas four persons are believed to have been concerned in the actual perpetration of these murders: Now We, John Poyntz, Earl Spencer, Lord Lieu- tenant- General and General Governor ot' Ireland, for the better apprehending such persons and bring- ing them to justice, are pleased hereby to offer a reward of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who, within three months from the date hereof, shall . give such information as • hall lead to the conviction of the murderers : And a further reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information, within the same time, as shall lead to th" same result: And We are also pleased hereby to offer to any person concerned in or privy to the murders ( not being one of the actual perpetrators thereof) who ehall, within the same time, give such information as shall lead to the conviction ol the murderers, a FREE PARDON and the Special Protection of the Grown in any part - of Her Majesty's dominions. WHEREAS Lord Frederick Charles Cavendish, the Chief Secretary, and Thomas Henry Burke, Esquire, the Under Secretary, to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, were brutally murdered in the Phoenix Park, in the county of Dublin, on the evening of Saturday/ the 6th May, 1882 : And whereas a reward of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS Ibas been offered by Us to any person or persons who « hall within the time specified in the Proclamation offering the same give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the Murderers : And whereas any person who shall knowingly receive into his or her house or otherwise harbour or maintain any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or shall conceal or aid any of them in escaping or endeavouring to escape from Justice, becomes liable to penal servitude for life: 1 • Now We, John Poyntz, Earl Spencer. Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland, are pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within three j months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the ARREST of any person who has so received, harboured, maintained, or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from Justice, or who shall receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from Justice, any of the persons who com- mitted the said Murders- Dublin Castle, 13th May, 1883. DESCRIPTION of the four men, wanted for murder of Lord F. Cavendish and Mr. Burke, the Chief and Under Secretaries for Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, on Saturday, 6th instant, between 7 and 8 P. M.:— 1. About 35 years old, stout make, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache recently clipped, so as to give a bristling appearance, narrow forehead, natural hollow or dinge on bridge of nose; wore a soft black jerry hat and dark clothes. 2. About 30 years, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache ; brown faded coat, as if much exposed to sun, soft black jerry hat. 3. About 20 years, small dark moustache, no whiskers; soft black hat and dark clothes. 4. About 30 years, sandy hair and moustache, beard on cliin; wore dark clothes and soft black hat. The height cannot be given of any, all being sitting on an outside car, driven by a man between 35 and 40 years, red bloated face, with a few days' growth of beard on; dark or brown coat, supposed frieze, and low soft black hat. The horse was a bay or chestnut, of good action, and the car had either a dark green or a red panel. The men had the appearance of sailors or well- to- do artisans.— JOHN MALLON, Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offenders who, on the 8th September 1882. absconded from the Malone Reformatory School, at Belfast:— 1. John Fyfe, 18 years of age, black hair, light blue eyes, light e> ebrows, sharp nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, long visage, slight make, A feet 4 inches high, born at Cookstown, formerly belonged to Belfast, parents reside at North Thomas- street, Belfast, number of blue marks on both arms. Dress worn by juvenile when he absconded :— Moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, blue cloth Glengarry cap, blue striped shirt, ted and black woollen check tie, blucher boots, and woollen stockings. 2. William J. Tate, 17 years of age, fair hair, large blue weak eyes, snub nose, ordinary mouth pale complexion, round plump visage, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, is a carpenter, formerly belonged to Belfast, parents reside at 34, Willow- street. Belfast. Dress worn by juvenile, when he absconded :— Same as Fyfe. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray tho expense of their conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture them with £ 1 for each boy. Thomas Walker ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, llth April, 1883. Belfast. Supervisee James Williams ( not reporting himself to the Police), not arrested; Hue- and- cry, 24th July, 1882. Carlow. Matthew M'Cabe ( failing to answer to his bail and take his trial on a charge of incendiary Are), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 18th July, 1883. Cavan. The three persons, names and native places unknown ( firing at and wounding), described in the Hue- and- Cry of 6th June, have not been arrested. Clare. DESCRIPTION of a gun, the property of James O'Neill, which was stolen from his house at Kil- kishen, parish of Clonlea, and barony of Tulla Lower, between the evening of the 26th and morning of the 29th August, 1882:— A double- barrelled fowling- piece, nearly new, with a brass plate on stock about the size of a shilling, maker, Wittaker, Limerick; value for about £ 3 10*. PARTICULARS relative to Convict John Corbett, 14,569. convicted in Cork, county Cork, at the Quarter Sessioi s, on the 3rd November, 1876, lor larceny from po's > n and previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 35 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, married, has 3 children, is a tailor, born in county Kerry, resided before conviction at The March, Cork, where his friends reside; dark brown hair mixed with gray, gray eyes, light brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 0 inches high, large scar over left lung from scrofula. This convict was discharged from Spike Island Prison, 6th March, 1882. and went to Cork. On the 15th August he reported at Mallow, and stated he was going to Newmarket to look for work, and if unsuccessful he would try Millstrvet. He has not reported himse f at either of the latter places and his present whereabouts are unknowD. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, September 25, 1882. ( 24901 m.— 14923.) Patrick Looney ( grievous assault), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 7th February, 1882. Dublin. Patrick Behan ( embezzlement of ihe price of a horse), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 14th July, 1882. Fermanagh. DESCRIPTION of Benjamin Hawtrey, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 10th of August, 1882, in the barony of Tyrkennedy, parish of Enniskillen, and county of Fermanagh, stolen four founds ten shillings, two silver Geneva watches, a silver chain, and a silver locket from the person of John Galligan, of Paisley, Scotland. The two watches and lockef have been recovered :— Smart active appearance, getting bald on top of head, square shoulders, brown eyes, sharp nose, sandy complexion, thin face, active make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair and moustache, face shaved; wore regimentals; is a sergeant, 2nd Battalion Royal Inmskilling Fusiliers. Patrick or James Murphy ( robbery), has been arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 29th August, 1882. : Galway. ,* DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th June, 18$ 2. j WHEREAS at or abdnt the hoar of twenty minutes paM: three o'clock P. M., on Thursday, the 8th June, instant, Walter M. Bourke Esq., of Rahassane Park, Craughwell, in the county of Galway; and - Corporal Wallace, of the Royal Dragoons, were shot dead on the road close to one of the gates of Castle Taylor Demesne, near Ardrahan, in the said county, by some person or persons at present unknown His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of these Murders, is pleased hereby to offer'a reward of ; M99" 0 » 8 - . TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, wlthtn six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of- the person or persons, or any of them, who committed the said Murders. And a Further reward of ; M ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. — His Excellency is also pleased to offer in addition to the above rewards a J FREE PARDON arwl the Special Protection oj the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions to any person concerned in, or privy to, the said Murders other than the person or persons who actually committed the same, in case of his giving such information as shall lead to The con- viction of the persons, or any of thefa, concerned in the Murders aforesaid. " And whereas any person who knowingly reoeives into lii9 or her house or otherwise harbours or maintains any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or conceals or aids any of th? m in escaping or endeavouring to escape from justice becomes liable to penal' servitude for life : His Excellency is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the CONVICTION of any person who has so received, harboured, maintained, or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from justice, or who shall receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from justice, any of the persons who committed the said Murders. By His Excellency's Command, R. G. C. HAMILTON. Tho above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by D. B. Franks, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Gort, to those who may become entitled to them under the conditions of this Proclamation. Ignatius Kelly, James Kelly, Michael Rogerson, John Rogerson, and Patrick Touhy ( attempt to blow up a gentleman's residence with dynamite), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 25th July, 1882. Patrick Donohoe ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Huo- and- Cry, 17th February, 1882. Thomas Walsh, alias Martin M'Hugh, alias Thomas Casey, ( suspected complicity in murder), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 7th February, 1882. Kildare. DESCRIPTION of John Nolan, native of 23, St. Andrew- street, Dublin, who has left bis home, and being of unsound mind, may have committed suicide. He was last seen at Newbridge, on the 8rd instant:— Deranged in head, sore foot, which causes him to walk lame, long dark brown beard, bald on top of head, dark complexion, thin worn face, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark blue top coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a baker. Kildare, Sept. 18, 1882. (, 54510 o.— 4087.) DESCRIPTION of articles, the property of Mr. George Knox, which were stolen from his house, at Browns- town, parish of Ballysax, barony of East Offaly, between the hours of 1 and 3 o'clock A. M. on the 16th instant, via.:— One six- chamber revolver. Constabu- lary; one silver mug, marked Frances A. Knox, 1875; a silver mug, marked James A. Knox; one clock, three silver forks, a silk handkerchief, and two fancy pincushions. Kildare, Sapt. 10, 1883. ( 54502 o.— 4992.) Kerry. Patrick Galvin ( assault endangering life, by stab- bing), not arreted Hue- and- Cry, 32nd August, 1882. DESCRIPTION of John Cross, native of Dramshrue, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 27th August, 1882, at Drumshrue, in the barony of Connell, parish of Kilmeague, maliciously set fire to a stable, the property of Ms father, Thomas Cross:— Blue eyes, short thick nose, sallow complexion, round! fWe; stout make, 5 feet 0 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair, shaves chin and upper lip, wears side whiskers, which arie brown ; wore a soft hat, dark coat black trowsers, and plaid vest; is a labourer. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Police at Rathangan. • Robertstown, August 89,1882. ( 47902 c — 4782.) Mary Walker ( child desertion), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 18th August, 1882. " The.- woman, name and native place unknown ( suspected infanticide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 24th July, 1882. The tramp, name and native place unknown, ( robbery of clothing), described in Hue- and- Cry of 11th July, not arrested. Elizabeth Hynes robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Ory, 27th June, 1882. Kilkenny. V, DESCRIPTION of Francis Short, supposed to be a native of county Kildare, who stands charged with having, on the 19th day of September, 1882, at Desart, in the barony of Shilleloger, parish of Tullaghanbrogue, committed a rape upon one Margaret Walsh — Good- looking, walks with a long stride, hazel eyes, long'nose, very fresh' complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair, shaves all his face except moustache which is light brown ; wore a soft black felt hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; h a labourer. • Callan, October I, 1882. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 30th September, 1882, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County :— Joseph M'Donald, 701, about 16 years of age, about 4 feet 11 inches hi'gh, stout make, fair complexion, hazel hair, brown eye, left eye blind, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage; formerly belonged to Dublin; father dead, aw h r in South Dabliu Union- The scho. ol dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of:— Corduroy trowsers and tunic, Scotch cap boots uumbereii; every a- tide of dress numbered. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 3i « th September, 1882,' ahscondedfrom the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County :— Peter Clarke, 712, 16 years of age, about 5 feet high, medium make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, short nose, rogular mouth, oval visage; scar on each cheek ; formerly belonged to Belfast; parents reside at 25, Millfield- place, Belfast. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of:— Corduroy trowsers and tunic, Scotch cap, boots numbered; every article of dress numbered. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 18th August, 1882, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County Patrick Connell, 773, 16 years ol age, about 6 fftt high, ordinary make, fresh complexion, brown Sair, brown eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage, scar on nose, formerly belonged to Work- house, Dungarvan; father dead, mother resided at Dungarvan. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of:— Corduroy trowsers and tunic, Scotch cap b ots left after him. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Office of Reformatories, August 26, 1882. ( 24898 m.— 44919.) DESCRIPTION of the following articles, burglariously stolen from the house of Edward P. Homan at Drum- cooly, on night of 22nd instant, viz,:— Two large silver spoons, crest— rampant lion and star on top of the handles; five silver tea spoons without crest; 1 one silver salt spoon ; one silver thimble ; one silver r egg spoon, with letters T. H.; two pair of scissors; one penknife; one silver buckle for a shoe; one workbox ( mahogany), with brass plate on top loose, with letters R. W. inside on it, and contained one pair of spectacles and two receipts for poor rates; one for £ 10 and one for 4s. 6 d. Edenderry, August 34, 1882. ( 52885 q.— 4756.) Arthur Donnelly ( failing to answer to his bail and take his trial on a charge of house attack and assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 14th A, ugust » 1882. George Thompson, ( cattle stealing), not arrested ;. Hue- and- Cry, 9th May, 1882. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of three men, names unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 81st August, 1882,. stolen the sum of . twenty pounds ten shillings; the property of Mrs. Margaret Hennessy, from her dwelling- house, in the barony of Lower Connello,. parish of Kilscannell :— 1. Very tall, no hair on face ; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat, and white flannel drawers. 2. About 5 feet 3 inches in height, black whiskers with rest of face shaved ; wore a jerry bat aud dark clothes. 8. About middle height, no hair on face ; wore a jerrv hat and dark clothes. ( 53784 c.— 6677.) • , DESCRIPTION of Mathew Moore, native of Rene- vanna, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of August, ) 882, in the baropv of Coonagh, parish of Doon, seriously assaulted his step- mother, Catherine Moore, from the effects of whichher life isin imminent danger :— Walks with a swinging gait; gray eyeB, short cocked nose, pale sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 27 years of age, Kgbt brown hair wore a dark tweed coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. f- J New Pallas, Aug. 35, 1882. Hugh Mulholland ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 24th March, 1882. Longford. DESCRIPTION of John Richie, native of county Longford, who stands charged with having, on the 20th July, » 882, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, assaulted Thomas Farrelt, Relieving Officer of Longford Union, by striking bim with a stick over the left temple, thereby endangering hia life. ( See Outrage Report, 22 July, 188- 1:— Hair growing far down on forehead, walks with his head down; small black eyes, regular nose, sallow oom- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, abaut 18 years of age, dark hair ; wore a bla k jerry hat, light tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer.' He is likely to be seen ahoi t xhe Broadstone, seeking to beg from Longford people, or about tbe Exhibition. Sub- Inspector at Longford holds a warrant for his arrest. Longford, September 18, 1882. DESCRIPTION of Kelly, native of Athlone, who stands charge a with having, on the 9th September, lt^ p, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Temple- michael, stolen, in conjunction with John Costello, now v. in custody, a pair of trowsers from the house of Christopher Gannon, tailor, of Longford:— Very shabbily dressed ; 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years o( age, black hair and beard. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Corcoran, native of carrow. cullen, who stands charged with having, on the 18th September, 1 in the barony of Tyrawley, parish of Templemurry, committed rape on Catherine Loughney:— Eye- lid turned out as if caused by a burn, j? ray eyes, large thick nose, fair complexion, round face, very stoUt make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about feT years ol age; wore a soft felt hat, blue frieze coat, tweed trowsers, and tweed vest; is a farmer's son. . _ , Ballina, September 10, 1888. DESCRIPTION of - Margaret Smith, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 9nd day of September, 1882, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, deserted her two children and left them chargeable on the Monaghan Union. DESCRIPTION of Martin Fox ( mother's name Catherine Crean), native of Lisduff, who stands charged with having, on the 16th August, 1882, in the barony of Frenchpark, parish of Tibohine, absconded from his parents, and cannot be found:— Freckled face, good- looking, fair complexion, stout make, 3 feet 5 inches high, about 9 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a cap, whitish jacket, trowsers, and vest. Was in an industrial school for 8 months. Had his name on trowsers ; all his clothing belonged to the industrial school, and were given him on his discharge from that institution. ( 54156 c.— 4998.) DESCRIPTION of Mary Madden, supposed to be fictitious, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 85th August, 1882, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Killukin, at Gardenston, endangered the life of her infant male child by leaving it on the roadside:— Dark eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long face, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark hair; wore a red Cashmere dress, brown or grayish shawl; barefooted; is a tramping vagrant. M., on the 2nd April last, Mrs. Henry Smythe was shot dead in the demesne at Barbavilla, in the county of Westmeath, by some person or persons at present unknown: his Excellency, i<> r cue better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the saxne, or any of them. And a further reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result.
