A PROCLAMATION. By the Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland. SPENCER. WHEREAS Lord Frederick Charles Cavendish, the Chief Secretary, and Thomas Henry Burke, Esquire,, the Under Secretary to tho Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, were brutally murdered in the Phoenix Park, in the county of Dublin, on the evening of Saturday, the Cth May, 1882: And whereas four persons are believed to have been concerned in the actual perpetration of these murders: Now We, John Poyntz, Earl Spencer, Lord Lieu- tenant- General and General Governor of Ireland, for tho better apprehending such persons and bring- ing them to justice, are pleased hereby to offer a reward of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who, within three months from the date hereof, shall give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the murderers : And a further reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information, within the same time, as shall load to tho same result: And We aro also pleased hereby to offer to any person concerned in or privy to the murders ( not being one of the actual perpetrators thereof) who shall, within the same time, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the murderers, a FREE PARDON and the Special Protection of the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's dominions. WHEREAS Lord Frederick Charles Cavendish, the Chief Secretary, and Thomas Henry Burke, Esquire, the Under Secretary, to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, were brutally murdered in the Phoenix Park, in the county of Dublin, on tho evening of Saturday, tho 6th May, 1883: And whereas a reward of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS has been offered by Us to any person or persons who shall vtfthin the time specified in the Proclamation offering tho same give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the Murderers : And whereas any person who shall knowingly receive into his or her houso or otherwise harbour or maintain any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or shall conceal or aid any of them in escaping or endeavouring t > escape from Justice, becomes liable to penal servitude for life: Now We, John Poyntz, Earl Spencer. Lord Lieutenant- General and General Governor of Ireland, are pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the ARREST of any person who has so received, harboured, maintained, or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from Justice, or who shall receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from Justice, any of the persons who com- mitted the said Murders. Dublin Castle, 13th May, 1882. DESCRIPTION of the four . men, wanted for murder of Lord F. Cavendish and Mr. Burke, the Chief and Under Secretaries for Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, on Saturday, 6th instant, between 7 and 8 P. M. :— 1. About 35 years old, stout make, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache recently clipped, so as to give a bristling appearance, narrow forehead, natural hollow or dinge on bridge of nose; wore a soft black jerry hat and dark clothes. 2. About 30 years, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache ; brown faded coat, as if much exposed to sun, soft black jerry hat. 3. About 20 years, small dark moustache, no whiskers; soft black hat and dark clothes. 4. About 30 years, sandy hair and moustache, beard on chin ; wore dark clothes and soft black hat. The height cannot be given of any, all being sitting on ap outside car, driven by a man between 35 and 40 years, red bloated face, with a few days' growth of beard on; dark or brown coat, supposed frieze, and low soft black hat. The horse was a bay or chestnut, of good action, and the car had either a dark green or a red panel. The men had the appearance of sailors or well- to- do artisans.— JOHN MALLON , Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offenders who, on the 8th September, 1882, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School, at Belfast:— 1. John Fyfe, 18 years of age, black hair, light blue eyes, light ej ebrows, sharp nose, large moutb, fresh complexion, long visage, slight make, 6 feet 4 inches high, born at Cookstown, formerly belonged to Belfast parents reside at North Thomas- street, Belfast, number of bl'ie irarks on both arms. Dress wo; n by juvenile when he absconded:— Moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, blue cloth Glengarry cap, blue striped shirt, red and black woollen check tie, blucher boots, and woollen stockings. 2. William J. Tate, 17 years of age, fair hair, large blue weak eyes, snub nose, ordinary mouth, pale complexion, round plump visage, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, is a Carpenter, formerly belonged to Belfast, parents reside at 84, Willow- street, Belfast. Dress worn by juvenile when ha absconded :— Same as Fyfe. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray ( ho expense of their conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward tho person who may capture them with XI for eac, h boy. Hugh M'Elvena ( cattle stealing), not arrested Hue- aiid- Cry, 80th May, 1882, Armagh. Thomas Walker ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 11th April, 1882. Belfast. Supervisee James Williams ( not reporting himself to the Police), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 24th July, 1882. Carlow. Matthew M'Cabe ( failing to answer to his bail and take his trial on a charge of incendiary Are), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 18th July, 1882. Cavan. Patrick Keating, described in Hue- and- Cry of 22nd August, has returned to his home. The three persons, names and native places unknown ( firing at and wounding), described in the Hue- and- Ory of 6th June, have not been arrested. Clare. DESCRIPTION of nine head of cattle, the property of John Sullivan, which were stolen from his land at Kilroughill, parish of O'Briensbridge, and barony of Tulla Lower, on the night of 18th September, 1882 :— Five bullocks, colour, one red, two dark red, and two speckled red and white; four heifers, colour, one red, two speckled jed and white, and one red with white spot on body and red neck ; all 1J years old ; value for £ 8 1 Os. each. DESCRIPTION of a gun, the property of James O'Neill, which was stolen from bis house at Kil- kishen, parish of Clonlea, and barony of Tulla Lower, between the evening of the 26th and morning of the 29th August, 1882:— A double- barrelled fowling- piece, nearly new, with a brass plate on stock about the size of a shilling, maker, Wittaker, Limerick; value for about £ 3 10*. O'Leary, Statbn- moster, Mallow, which was stolen on the 19th day ot September. 1 « 82, from the Mallow Railway Station, parish of Mallow, and barony of Fermoy:— Taa colour ears, and a tan spot . on tail, hair fallen off from behind tbe left ear result of a sore ; answers to the name of " Carlo." Fellfort, parish of Kilquane, and barony of Barrymore, on the night of the 8th instant.:— 1. A grayhound bitch, black, with white ring round the neck, and two small bare spots on right side of back, answers to the name of " Ring." 2. A grayhound bitch, red, with white spots on head and neck, dark muzzle, high on back, answers to the name of " Flint." 3. DESCRIPTION of a mare, the property of John Duke, which was stolen off his farm at Tamlaghtmore, . parish of Mohil), barony of Mehill, and county of Leitrim, on night of 14th or morning of 16th inst- :— A bay mare, rather cob- like appearance, remarkable large white star on face, one hind leg white about fetlock, white seam on upper lip occasioned by a cut, tail recently cut to about a foot and a half long, fifteen hands high, eigh*; years old; value for about twenty- five pouuds. DESCRIPTION of three men, names unknown, who- stand charged with having, on the 81st August, 1982, stolen the sum of twenty pounds ten shillings, the property of Mrs. Margaret Hennessy, from her dwelling- house; in the barony of Lower Connello, parish of Kilscannell;— 1. Very tall, no hair on face; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat, and white flannel drawers. 2. About 5 feet 3 inches in height, black whiskers with rest of face shaved; wore a jerry hat and dark clothes. 3. About middle height, no hair on face ; wore a jerry hat and dark clothes. DESCRIPTION of Mathew Moore, native of Rene- vanna, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of August, 1882, in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Doon, seriously assaulted his step- mother, Catherine Moore, from the effects of which her life is in imminent danger :— Walks with a swinging gait; gray eyes, short cocked nose, pale sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 27 years of age, light brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. New Pallas, Aug. 25, 1882. ( 53733 o.— 6598.) Walter Starr, Corporal, 1st Batt., Middlesex Regi- ment ( forgery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 2nd June, 1883. Londonderry. Hugh Mulholland ( assault endangering life), not arrested;' Hue- and- Cry, 24th March, 1882. Longford. DESCRIPTION of John Richie, native of county Longford, who stands charged with havinjg, on the 20th July, 1882, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, assaulted Thomas Farrell, Relieving Officer of Longford Union, by striking him with a stick over the left temple, thereby endangering his life. ( See Outrage Report, 22 July, 1883:— Hair growing far down on forehead, walks with his head down; small black eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, dark hair ; wore a black jerry hat, light tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer. He is likely to be seen about the Broadstone, seeking to beg from Longford people, or about the Exhibition. Sub- Inspector at Longford holds a warrant for his arrest. Longford, September 13,1882. DESCRIPTION of John Costello, native of Naas, and Kelly, native of Athlone, who stand charged with having, on the 9th September, 1882, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, stolen a pair of trowsers from the house of Christohper Gannon, tailor, of Longford:— 1. Very shabby appearance, shaves all his face, black moustache growing straight, small mark of burn on right side of upper lip; 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, looks older. 2. Very shabbily dressed ; 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, black hair and beard. Longford, September 13,1882. ( 62981 c.— 1935.) Dublin Patrick Behan ( embezzlement of the price of a horse), not arrested; Hae- and- Cry, 14th July, 1882. Fermanagh. DESOBIPTION qf Patrick or James Murphy, native of Belturbet, county Cavan, who stands charged with having, on the 16th August, 1882, in the barony of Magheraboy, parish of Enniskillen, aud county Fermanagh, stolen a cilver lever watch and gold chain, value for £\ 0, from the barrack- room of Sergeant Leslie, and Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. The watch ana chain have been re- covered :— Gray eyes, long sharp nose, fair com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet high, about 16 yeirs of age, fair hair; wore a Glengarry cap, browu tweed coat ( left sleeve torn), dark trowsers, was barefooted; sometimes works in smiths'forges, frequents military barracks for the purpose of join- ing the drummers, and had enlisted, but not attested. Enniskillen, Aug. 25, 1882. ( 53235 c.— 3385.) DESOBIPTION of Benjamin Hawtrey, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 10th of August, 1882, in the barony of Tyrkennedy, parish of Enniskillen, and county of Fermanagh, stolen four pounds ten shillings, two silver Geneva watches, a silver chain, and a' silver locket from the person of John Galligan, of Paisley, Scotland. The two watches and locket have been recovered :— Smart active appearance, getting bald on top of head, square shoulders, brown eyes, sharp nose, sandy complexion, thin face, active make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 80 years of age, sandy Mir and moustache, face shaved; wore regimentals; is a sergeant, 2nd " Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Enniskillen, August 26.1882. ( 53260 c.— 3336.) Galway. DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th June, 1882. WHEREAS at or about the hour of twenty minutes past three o'clock, P. M., on Thursday, the 8th June, instant, Walter M. Bourke, Esq., of Rahassane Park, Craughwell, in the county of Galway, and Corporal Wallace, of the Royal Dragoons, were shot dead on the road close to one of the gates of Castle Taylor Demesne, near Ardrahan, in the saicl county, by some person or persons at present unknown : His Excellency, for the. better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of these ' Murders, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO ThoUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons, or any of them, who committed the said Murders. And a further reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private ihformation as shall lead to the same result. His Excellency is also pleased to offer in addition to the above rewards a FREE PARDON and the Special Protection of the Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions to any person concerned in, or privy to, the said Murders other than the person or persons who actually committed the same, in case of bis giving such information as shall lead to the con- viction of the persons, or any of them, concerned in the Murders aforesaid. And whereas any person who knowingly receives into his or her house or otherwise harbours or maintains any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or conceals or aids any of them in escaping or endeavouring to escape from justice becomes liable to penal servitude for life: His Excellency is pleased hereby to offer a reward of FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the CONVICTION of any person who has so received, harboured, maintained, or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from justice, or who shall receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from justice, any of the persons who committed the said Murders. By His Excellency's Command, R. G. C. HAMILTON. The above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by D. B. Franks, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Gort, to those who may become entitled to them under the conditions of this Proclamation. Kerry. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Galvin ( mother's surname Riordan), native of Caher, who stands charged with having, on the 16th August, 1883, at Gortagass, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Kenmare, seriously assaulted William Mayberry and John Lyne by stabbing, so as to endanger life:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches higb, about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a labourer. This man will endeavour to emigrate. Kenmare, August 18, 18S2. ( 53697 o.— 6197.) Kildare. DESCRIPTION of John Nolan, native of 23, St. Andrew- street, Dublin, who has left bis home, and being of unsound mind, may have committed suicide. He was last seen at Newbridge, on the 8rd instant:— Deranged in head, sore foot, which causes him to walk lame, long dark brown beard, bald on top of head, dark complexion, thin worn face, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark blue top coat, dark trowsers, and vest; is a baker. DESCRIPTION of articles, the property of Mr. George Knox, which were stolen from his house, at Browns- town, parish of Ballysax, barony of East Offaly, between the hours of 1 and 3 o'clock A. M. on the 16th instant, via.:— One six- chamber revolver. Constabu- lary ; one silver mug, marked Frances A. Knox, 1875; a silver mug, marked James A. Knox; one clock, three silver forks, a silk handkerchief, and two fancy pincushions. Kildare, Sspt. 19, 1882. ( 54502 o.— 4992.) DESORIPTION of John Cross, native of Drumshrue, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 21th August, 1882, at Drumshrue, in the barony of Connell, parish of Kilmeague, maliciously set fire to a stable, the property of his father, Thomas Cross:— Blue e> es, short thick nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair, shaves chin and upper lip, wears side whiskers, which are brown ; wore a soft hat, dark coat, black trowsera, and plaid vest; is a labourer. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Police at Rathangan. Robertstown, August 29, 1883. ( 47902 c.— 1782.) William Hudson's ass, described in Hue and- Cry of 2Srd June last, was found straying and restored to the owner. Mary Walker ( child desertion), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 18th August, 1882. The woman, name and native place unknown ( suspected infanticide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 24th July, 1883. The tramp, name and native place unknown ( robbery of clothing), described in Hue- and- Cry of 11th July, not arrested. Elizabeth Hynes ' robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th June, 1882. Kilkenny. The two persons ( intimidation), described in the Hue- and- Cry of 7th July, 1882, not arrested. Michael Sullivan ( burglary), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th June, 1882. King's. DESOBIPTION of the following articles, burglariously stolen from the house of Edward P. Homan, at Drum- cooly, on night of 23nd instant, viz,:— Two large silver spoons, crest— rampant lion and star on top of the handles; five silver tea spoons without crest; one silver salt spoon; one silver thimble ; one silver egg spoon, with letters T. H.; two pair of scissors ; one penknife; one silver buckle for a shoe; one workbox ( mahogany), with brass plate on top loose, with letters R. DESCRIPIION of Patrick Corcoran, native of Carrow- cullen, who stands charged with ha i" g, on the ISth September. 1882, in the barony of Tyrawley, parish of Templemurry, commit ei rape on Catherine Loughney:— Eye- lid turned out as if caused br a burn, gray eyes, large thick nose, fair complexion, round face, very et'iut make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 27 years ol age; wore a soft felt hat, blue frieze coat, tweed trowscrs, aid tweed vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Eliza Smith, alias Lea, native of Newbliss, who stands charged with having, on the 4th September, 188 J, in the barony of Dartrey, parish of clones, destroyed her illegitimate male child by suffocation :— Blue ^ eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 yea> s of age, brown hair; wore a Wincey dress, old brown plaid shawl with yellow stripe, aud strong laced boots; is a farm servant. DESCRIPTION of Martin Fox ( mother's name Catherine Crean), native of Lisduff, who stands changed with having, on the 16th August, 1882, in the barony of French park, parish of Tibohine, absconded from his parents, and cannot be found:— Freckled face, good- looking, fair complexion, stout make, 3 feet 6 inches high, about 0 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a cap, whitish jacket, trowsers, and vest. M., on the 2nd April last, Mrs. Henry Smythe was shot dead in the demesne at Barbavilla, in the county of Westmeath, by some person or persons at present unknown: His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice tho perpetrators of this Murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same, or any of them.
