Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear tile Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetter* addressed to the Editor • nDgt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without Idie apprehension of the offender. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 8th instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned by a coroner's j ury against some person or persons unknown, for the wilful murder by strychnine poisoning, on 10th August last, of Mrs. Emma Howell, of Sussex street, Cambridge. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government, to any person ( other than a | eraon belonging to a police force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Secietary of State for the Home Department, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to Mr. Wm. G. Turrall, Chief Supt., Borough Police Office, Cambridge.— Bow- street, September 22. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on 21st instant from the person, at the Shrub Hill Railway Station, Worcester :— a Purse containing two Sovereigns, one Half Sovereign, a railway Ticket from Led- bury to Burton- on- Trent, and a £ 5 Note of the Bank of Eng- land, which had been cut in two, and the two halves were united with a piece of adhesive paper bearing the words ' New Invention,' and some other words. £ y, reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the thief, and recovery of the money, ou application to the Head Constable, City Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, September 22. The silver verge Watch, No. 4C5T0, reported stolen at Beverley on 17th inst., has been recovered. George II. Knight, Superintendent, Beverley.— Bow- street, September 22. The Watch advertised in Police Gazette of 13th instanti as supposed to have been stolen from Chatteris, has been recovered, having been pledged at Wisbech on 19th instant : — the thief, who has absconded, is a labourer, supposed to belong to King's Lynn, and states he was discharged from the 80th Regt. at Netley Hospital in Sept. 1879, 32 years of age, 5 feet 51 inches high, fresh complexion, rather broad nose, light grey eyes, light brown hair, whiskers, beard and mous- tache, but supposed now to be clean shaved and his hair to be cut short; has brown burr marks at back of head and the hair is off those places, large round mark or scar on left breast, female standing on a ball, holding a flag, on upper part of right arm ; dressed in white slop, canvas or drabbett trousers, cap, and either Militix boots or heavy lace- up ones. May also be wearing a dark coat. Information to Inspector King, Chatteris, C^ mba.— Bow- street, Sept. 22. Stolen from the person :— a silver lever Watcli and ChaiD, makers name ' Vales, Bury St. Edmunds,' No. 15591, supposed by a man, 5 feet 6 inches high, 40 years of ago, small whiskers under chiD, and slight moustache, thin features; dressed iu fustian trousers, drabett slop and chummy hat. Information to Head Constable Sharps, Borough Police, Wisbeach,— Bow- street, September 2'). Stolen from the person on the Fair Ground at Farnworth Wakes, about 8 p. m. the 16th instant:— a silver lever Watch, No. 5776. Information to County Police Office, Bolton.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen from the person at Heavitree Races, Devon, on 12th instant :— an open face silver English Lever Watch, No. 10494, maker ' Ellis, Exeter'; also au open- face silver English lever Watch, No. 7560, maker ' Kelvey, Gainsborough.' Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. — Bow- street, September 15. Stolen at Newton, about 9 p. m. 9th instant:— a market Basket, containing 5 lb. of potatoes, and Is. lOd. in money, by a woman about 45 years of age ; dressed in black and white shawl, black bonnet aud white apron, and carried a book in her hand. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manchester.— Bow- street, September 15. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. The Glove Manufactory of Messrs. Dent, Allcroft & Co., Worcester, having been entered at about 2 a. m. 18th instant, and £ 61 stolen therefrom (£ 55 in Silver, £ 5 in Gold, and £ 1 in Bronze). A reward of £ 20 will be paid for such informa- tion as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender. Information to M. Power, Head Constable, City Police Office, Worcester.-— Bow- street, September 20. Between 2 and 3 o'clock on the morning of 16th instant, the shop window of Mr. Knight, diaper, & c., of By fleet, was broken and a Jacket, 3 pairs of Trousers, grey mixture, aud 2 hard felt Hats stolen ( all very common), information to Mr. Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Cliertsey. — Bow- s. reet, September 18. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING The mare Pony advertised in Police Gazette of ] 8th instant, has been found in Staffordshire, and returned to the owner.— Bow- street, September 22. JOHN THOMPSON, advertised in Police Gazette of 14th July last, has been apprehended and committed for trial. Metropolitan Police, September 22. Supposed stolen from a field at Kexby, during the night of 17th instant :— a bay Mare, 16 hands high, white star on foiehead, has a broken knee, and one thick hind leg, with white rim round fetlock, in poor condition. Information to Inspector W. H. Winpenny, East Riding Constabulary Office, Escrick, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Supposed stolen from Kenley since the 30th ultimo :— a yearling Hereford Heifer, red with white face. 10s. reward will be paid on recovery of the heifer and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to Mr. Superintendent Edwards, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Davies, Police Station, Much Wenlock.— Bow- st., Sept. 18. Horse, Cart, and Harness, advertised in Police Gazette of 15th instant, as stolen from East Grinstead on 2nd instant, have been recovered, the offender has not yet been appre- hended. Information to Mr. Supt. Geo. Berry, East Grin- stead.— Bow- street, September 18. Stolen from a field at Astbury, on 13th instant:— a [ dark brown mare Pony, aged, 12 hands high, cut mark on near shoulder, dock tail, black legs. Information to Mr. Supt. J. Hindley, Middlewick Constabulary Station; or Sergeant Potts, Astbury, Congleton, Cheshire Constabulary.— Bow- street, September 15. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen at Longsight, between 9 a. m. 13th & 9a. m, 14th inst : — a gent's light- brown Top Coat, single- breasted, two pockets outside and ticket pocket, lined with brown Italian cloth, brown cloth covered buttons, far worn; a gent's dark grey Top Coat, single- breasted, two, pockets outside, ticket pocket, and pocket outside left breast, lined with dark brown winsey and clotli covered buttons, has been newly bouud with blaci- braid, the Coat is far worn. Supposed by a man who lodged at the house one night and left the following morning, about 40 or 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, black whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark coat, black velvet vest, black cloth trousers, aud black billycock hat. Information to County Police Office, Old Trafford, Manches- ter.— Bow- street, September 22. Charged on a warrant with stealiug from Lower House Farm near Ellesmere, on or about 25th ultimo, 6 fleeces of Wool:— THOMAS FINN, alias DICK TURPIN, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, medium build, rather thin face, fresh complexion, little or no whiskers, brown hair, and turns his feet out slightly when walking ; dressed in a black billycock hat, dirty white slop or grey jacket, and narrow ribbed cord trousers, he is a pedlar, but has no certifi- cate, generally carries a bag, and collects rags, bones and skins. He is well known amongst marine store dealers, lodging house keepers, & c., in Cheshire and North Shropshire. He is of drunken habits, and when in drink is very noisy and talkative. Information to Mr. Supt. Gough, Oswestry, or to Sergeant Walters, Ellesmere, Salop, who nolds the warrant. — Bow- street, September 22. During the 19th instant, the alms boxes in four churches were forced open and the contents stolen. No description can be given of thief. Information to Mr. Supt. C. Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- street, September 22. Description of a man who gave the name of KUSKA, charged ou warrant with stealing from a bedroom at Ketter- ing, on 19th instant ( where he had obtained private lodgings), a black leather Purse, containing lis. in Silver:— about 35 years of age, 5 feet o inches high, medium build, dark completion, dark brown whiskers and moustache, and bald on top head; dressed in brown or ucw cloth overcoat, black cloth coat, and vest, brown trousers, lace- up boots, and black soft billycock hat with rather wide brim, has a respectable appearance; speaks a foreign accent, we^ rs rings on fingers of both hands, also a silver watch with large gold guard, which is visible at his breast, lias lockets and coins attached, and carries a black gladstone bag and umbrella. Stated he was an engineer on the railway, and come to reside at Kettering, obtained his dinner and tea, and then decamped with the money, saying he was going to the station for his luggage. Information to Mr. Supt. Botterill, Kettering.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen 4th instant from Deptford :— a Pianoforte Organ, looking- glass in front with wooden slide, two wheels painted red. By a youth 18 years of age, dark hair, clean shaved, scar palm of left hand, supposed to be travelling through Kent and Sussex, obtaining a living by playing the organ. Is said to have visited Maidstone and Chatham last week. Informa- tion to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scot- land Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan Police, September 22. Description of EPHRAIM HALL, alias BELLAMY, wanted under warraut for embezzlement: — he is .<?.', « ut 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, light sandy hair, fair com- plexion, thiu face, no whiskers or moustache, slightly round shouldered, a groom, supposed native of Great Stukeley, Huntingdon ; when last seen was dressed in check coat and vest, dark cloth trousers, blue striped shirt, lace- up boots and hard black felt hat. Information to Chief Constable Pem- ber'on, Guildhall, Grantham, Lincolnshire.— Bow- st., Sept. 22. Wanted on warrant for felony:— WALTER LANG DON SCOTT, late of No. 4, Russell- road, Seven Sisters- road, Ilolloway, a clerk, 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ( alight) ; dressed in snuff- coloured trousers, frock coat, and high hat. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- si., September 20. Wanted under a warrant for stealing a Watch ( recovered), and jet Necklace :— FRED1C. MlNEIORST, a travelling watch and clock cleaner, about 50 years of age, 5 ft. 6 inches high, proportionate build, swarthy complexion, dark grey hair and moustache ; dressed in grey coat and trousers, and black hard hat, a native of Germany, and formerly resided at Brighton. Information to Mr. Supt. Smith, Police Station, Ledbury, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, September 20. Stolen between the 1st and 8th instant, from a cottage at Rodmill Farm, Eastbourne :-— an old silver English verge Watch, open face, steel hands, engine- turned case, out of repair, either the chain or spring being broken ; ar. d a small square plain gold Brooch, with a glass in the centre. Sup- posed by a woman, who slept in the house three nights, and has absconded, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, aud medium figure ; dressed in black hat, trimmed with black velvet, and red flowers in front, black cloth jacket, blue serge dress, and button boots. Information to Mr. Supt. Newnham East Sussex Constabulary, Eastbourne.— Bow- st., Sept. 20. ' Absconded from the Greek barque ' Naziretb,' lying in the Lynn Dock, on 18th instant, charged with stealing about £ 13 in Gold, consisting of £ 5 in English, £ 7 in Turkish and £ 1 in French money :— the ships steward, about 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, black hair, olive complexion, slight traces of growing moustache; dressed in brown' guernsey vest, old blue trousers, new boots and sailor's cap, left Lynn at 8 15 a. m. 19th instant, for Liverpool Street, London, he cannot speak English. Stolen at Sale :— a silver pint Goblet, lined with gold, bottom part composed of oxodized silver, imitation of swans engraved on the outside, ' L. R D.' in monogram. By a man, 26 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark hair, slight dark whiskers, medium build; dressed in black hard felt hat, brown or fawn coloured coat', shabby genteel. Information to Mr. Supt. Leighton, County Police, Altrincliam, Cheshire.— Bow- s: reet, September 18. Absconded 12th instsnt, charged on warrant with em- bezzlement:— J. D'ARCY, a clerk, Baltic Ticket Office 51, Tlneadneedle Street, and 103, Dee Street, 6, Avenue' Queen's Park Estate, Harrow Road, 38 years of age, 5 feet 6 incites high, dark complexion, whiskers and moustache shaved on chin, stout build, tatooed on back of hand ; dressed in dark suit and high hat, respectable appearance. September 22 Description cf FREDERICK KEEFE, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 2 10s. 9d.. from a cottage at West Thurrock, on 8th instant :— he is 26 years ol" age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, medium build, rather ihin face, with large pro- minent mouth, dark eyes, hair, complexion, and has a small dark moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in dark coat, browu mixture cloth waistcoat and trousers, hard brown felt hat, with black baud, and lace- up shoes ; is a cooler by trade, and he will endeavour to seek employment at some cooperage works or at cement factories; has a father who resides at 18, Riberts- place, Commercial- road, Whitechapel. Informa- tion to Inspector Allen, Grays, Essex.— Bow- st., September 18 Stolen at Sharpies, about 6 30 p. m. the 16th instant:— a pair of lady's elastic- side Boots, newly soled and heeled. By a woman, about 5 feet 2 inches high, middle age, thin face ; dressed in a black dress, black and white plaid shawl, and black bonnet. Information at County Police Office, Bolton. — Bow- street, September 18. Description of JOSEPH TEBBETT, charged on war- rant with stealing, on 13th instant, from a bed- room at the Bakers' Arms public- house, Woodford, where he lodged on nights of lltb and 12th instant: — a gold Albert Chain, round links, swivel seal attached, has three stones— two white and one dark ; also a gold Brooch, oval shape, had three or four different kinds of hair in centre. He is a draper's assistant, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, brown hair, inclined to curl, brown moustache, clean shaved, full face, long nose, and has several false teeth; dressed in black ribbed cloth coat and vest, bound with braid, braid been repaired, grey cloth trousers, hard black felt hat, fiat crown, rather greasy, buttoned boots, newly soled, wore a black crape band on left arm, and carried an umbrella ; he is a native of Upton, near Peterboro', but was chiefly brought up at Stamford and Peterboro'; he is very talkative when in company, and talked very much about high church and other religious matters; he also called on the clergyman, and visited the church, and the 1 Poor- box' has since been discovered broken open and contents stolen. He stated he was in a situation in London and was out for his holiday, and must be back in London on 13th instant; he left behind a patent leather travelling bag, a black cloth coat, and a silver pepper- box top. He is also wanted for a robbery at West Deeping, Lincoln- shire ( see Police Gazette of 11th instant). Information to Inspector Tarry, Police StatioD, Thrapston, Northampton- sb" e.— Bow stre't, September 18. A warrant is issued at TuDbridge Wells agaisst ARTIIUR CLARENCE ( supposed fictitious name) on a charge of steal- ing cn the 30th ultimo, a silver Watch ( not in going order), a long silver NeckchaiD, and a large silver Locket and Chain : — He is about 26 years old, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, ruddy complexion ; dressed in light brown mixture suit. He said he was a mercantile agent, and took apartments at the house he robbed, and said he wjshed to Jtake the house for three months, for his brother, a doctor, who was just about to return from his wedding tour. He had also taken apart- ments at an hotel, which he left without paying his bill, leaving behind a small black bag, containing a pair of cricketing shoes, a Scotch cap, and a novel, entitled ' The Pilot.' Supposed recently to have come out of prisoD. In- formation to the Police Office, Tunbridge Wells.— Bow- street, Sptember 18. Stolen fium a cottage at Newtown Malvern, on 12th inst.' - a pair of Blucher Boots, recently soled; a blue cloth Monkey Jacket, two pockets outside, lined striped flannel; and a German silver Verge Watch, glass broken, hands loose, with steel Chain attached ( about 6 in. or 8 in. long). Sup- posed by a man who bad lodged in the house, a native of Cleobury Mortimer, Salop, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, light brown hair, and ( small) moustache, no whiskers, browu eyes, and medium build ; dressed in monkey jacket, fustian trousers and vest, strong navvy boots, and black billycock hat or cap. He is likely to seek employment at railways or any kind of excavating. Information to Mr. Supt. Turner, Upton- on- Severn, or to Sergeant C. Drury, Police Office, Malvern.— Bow- ttreet, September 18. Description of ALEXANDER McCALLUM, wanted under a warrant for embezzlement: — he is about 47 years of age, 5 feet 71 inches high, light thin sandy hair, long beard, turning grey, moustache and whiskers same colour, stoops a little when walking, and rather awkward gait; he is a gardener, and a native of Galstone, Ayrshire. He was seen in Stourbridge on 8th instant, when he had about £ bl) in gold in his possession, and in all probability will try to leave England for America. Information to Inspector Ebury, Towu Hall, Kidderminster.— Bow- street, September 15. 8tolen from a bedroom at the Crown Inn, Shorr. e, near Gravesend, on the evening of 12tb instant:— four or five i>' 5 Bank of England Notes, numbers not known ; about .£ 25 in Gold ; an old- fashioned pair case verge Watch, Roman figures, maker— Plumber, London; an American 20- dollar gold Piece; aud a loDg brown silk Purse with steel rings and beads. Supposed by two men who have several times within the past month visited the house, and seen near on the even- ing of the robbery :— lst., about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, and whiskers worn round throat, with chin and upper lip shaved, pug nose, thick lips, has the appearance of a pugilist; dressed in grey cloth jacket and trousers, and soft black felt hat. The other, about : i0 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark brown hair8 small whiskers and moustache ; dressed in blue serge suit, lace boots with toecaps, light brown felt hat, and has a military appearance. Information to Mr. Supt. E. Coppiuger, Police Court, Chatham.— bow- iireet, September 15. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of ROBERT BIRCH, jun., and JOHN BIRCH, gipsies, charged under a. warrant with night peach- ing at Doulting, on night of 15th instant, and also with assaulting Police Constables Edwards and Horler:— Robert Birch is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, light complexion, sunburnt face, brown hair, small whiskers at sides of face, light moustache, and pioportionately built ; dressed generally in brown sleeve waistcoat, old corduroy trousers, soft black bowler hat, and sometimes wears a long dark overcoat. John Birch is about 17 years of ag » >, 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion, summer moles all over face, brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed generally in old brown coat, corduroy trousers, cloth cap with earflaps, and has also a grej mixture suit. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wsgood, Somerset Constabulary, Glastonbury.— Bow- street, September 22. Description of 2 men and a woman wanted for obtaining soods by frand from tiadesmen and lodging- house keepers at Bridlington Qaiy, on 16th and 18th instant:- lst mm stated he belonged to the firm of Kirkland Brothers, fruit merchants, aud had places in Hull, Lowestoft, and Glasgow, about 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 7 er 8 inches high, fresh complexion, thick dark whiskers and moustache ; respectable appearance and good address ; rather nervous manner, walks quickly, hands mostly iu trousers pockets, looked rather askance with eyes; dressed in dark coat, light open- frouted waistcoat, light trousers, rather frayed at heels, square- toed boots. Second man, medium height, 35 to 38 years of age, rather like the first in features, but thinner and fairer; shabbily rather than respectably dressed ; carries right shoulder considerably forward and left arm back when walking. Woman, about 32 years of age, short, shabby; dressed in drab ulster and broad- brimmed hat. Their mode of proceeding is : the first man takes a shop, and • rdt rs fixtures and fittings from local tradesmen, also obtains on strength of this, furniture for one or two rooms of house, endeavouring to obtain on credit articles of clothing,' to be sent to the shop,' meantime lodging and boarding in respectable house near by himself; the other man and the woman lodging elsewhere, but' to enter the shop as soon as fit, to carry on the business.' So soon as goods ordered from shopkeepers are got iu, they make off with them. A lady's gold lever Watch obtained thus, No. 5203, ' Wm. Lockwood, Huddertfield,' maker. Information to Mr. Supt. Winterbottom, E. R. C., Court House, BridliDgton.— Bow- street, September 22. This man frequents race meetings, and when last heard of was in Dublin. L.,' ' A. B.,' and arrow- pierced heart below elbow ; left side : cross flags, crown, soldier each side flags, cannon, pile of shot, and woman's head on arm, blue dote on thumb and finger, female inside left calf. Con- victed of burglary, at Bristol, 3rd August, 1878 ; sentenced to 5 years penal servitude ; liberated from Wormwood Scrubs to Manchester, 31st July, 1882. MARY SMITH, alias MARY I, EE, and ELIZA LEE 41 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, light brown hair,' hazel eyes, scara on forehead, over left eye, on left breast mark from dog bite left thumb, ears pierced. Convicted of larceny from the person at Manchester, 27th October, 187C, and sentenced to 8 years penal servitude, and 7 years police supervision. This woman is wanted here for robbing her lodgings.
