WIIKHEAS Lord Frederick Charles Cavendish, the Chief Secretary, and Thomas Henry Burke, Esquire, the Under Secretary, to the Lord Lieuteuant of Ireland, wore brutally murdered in the Phoenix Park, in the county of Dublin, on the evening of Saturday, the Oth Muy, 1883: And whereas a reward of 1 TEN THOUSAND POUNDS has bofn offered by Us to any person or persons who shall within the time specified in tho Proclamation - offering the same give such information as shall lead to tho conviction of the Murderers : And whereas any person who shall knowingly receive into his or her house or otherwise harbour or maintain any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or shall conceal or aid any of them in escaping or endeavouring to escape from Justice, becomes liable to penal servitude for life: Now We, John Poyntz, Earl Spencer. Dublin Castle, 13th May, 1883. DESCRIPTION of the four men, wanted for murder of Lord> F. Cavendish and Mr. Burke, the Chief and Undersecretaries for Ireland, in the Phoenix Park, on Saiajt'day, 6th instant, between 7 and 8 P. M. :•— . 1. About 35 years old, stout make, dark complexion, hair, Whiskers, and moustache recently clipped, so as to give a bristling appearance, narrow forehead, natural hollow or dinge on bridge of nose; wore a soft black jerry hat and dark clothes. 2. About 30 years, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache ; brown faded coat, as if much exposed to sun, soft black jerry hat. 3. About 20 years, small dark moustache, no whiskers; soft black hat and dark clothes. 4. Abeut 30 years, sandy hair and moustache, beard on chin ; wore dark clothes and soft black hat. The height cannot be given of any, all being sitting on an' outside car, driven by a man between 35 and 40 years, red bloated face, with a few days' growth of beard on; dark or brown coat, supposed frieze, and low s6ft black hat. The horse was a bay or chestnut, of good action, and the car had either A dark green or a red panel. The men had the appearance of sailors or well- to- do artisans.- jOHN MALLON, Superintendent. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Keating ( mother's surname Farrelly), native of Crossreagh, who, on the 34th day of July, 1883, in the barony of Castleraghan, parish of Mullagh, left the employment of his master, Terence Brady, of Burnew, and has not since been heard of; it is feared he has met with foul play:— Pockpitted, tender eyelids, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 15 years of age, light brown hair; wore a gray tweed cap, dark tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a labourer. Information with reference to him to be . sent to Sub- Inspector at Ballyjamesduff. Ballyjamesduff, August 18,1882. ( 63338 c.— 3377.) The three persons, names and native places unknown ( firing at and wounding), described in the Hue- and- Cry of 6th June, have not been arrested. Clare. DESCRIPTION of a gun, the property of James O'Neill, which was stolen from his house at Kil- kishen, parish of Clonlea, and barony of Tulla Lower, between the evening of the 36th and morning of the 39th August, 1882:— A double- barrelled fowling- piece, nearly new, with a brass plate on stock about the size of a shilling, maker, Wittaker, Limerick; value for about £ 3 10*. DESCRIPTION of Maurice Walshe. native of Clown gown, who stands charged with having, on the 24th June, 1883, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Tullylease, committed a rape:— Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, long fsce, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 50 years of age, sandy hair; wore a jerry hat, black coat, light tweed trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer. Patrick Behan ( embezzlement of the price of a horse), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 14th July, 1882. Fermanagh. DESCRIPTION of Patrick or James Murphy, native of Belturbet. county Cavan, who stands charged with having, on the lflth August, 1882, in the barony of Magheraboy, parish of Enniskillen, and county Fermanagh, stolen a silver lever watch and gold chain, value for £ 10, from the barrack- room of Sergeant Leslie, and Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. The watch aud chain have been re- covered :— Gray' eyes, long sharp nose, fair com- plexion, thin face, slight mane, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, fair hair; wore a Glengarry cap, brown tweed coat ( left sleeve torn), dark trowsers, was barefooted ; sometimes works in smiths'forges, frequents military barracks for the purpose of join- ing the drummers, aud had enlisted, but not attest ed Enniskillen, Aug. 86, 1883. A \ THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTE DESCRIPTION of Benjamin Hawtrey, native of London, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 10th of August, 1889, in the barony of Tyrkennedy, parish of Enniskillen, and county of Fermanagh, stolen four pounds ten shillings, two silver Geneva watches, a silver chain, and a silver locket from the person of John Galligan, of Paisley, Scotland. The two watches and locket have been recovered :— Smart active appearance, getting bald on top of head, square shoulders, brown eyes, sharp nose, sandy complexion, thin face, active make, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 90 years of age, sandy hair and moustache, face shaved; wore regimentals; is a sergeant, 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Enniskillen, August 26,1883. ( 63260 c.— 3336.) Galway. DUBLIN CASTLE, 9th June, 1882. " WHEREAS at or about the hour of twenty minutes past three o'clock, P. M., on Thursday, tho 8th June, instant, Walter M. Bourke, Esq., of Rahassane Park, Craughwell, in the county of Galway, and Corporal Wallace, of the Royal Dragoons, were shot dead on the road close to one of the gates of Castle Taylor Demesne, near Ardralian, in the said county, by some person or persons at present unknown : His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice tho perpetrators of these Murders, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons, or any of them, who committed the said Murders. And a further reward of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for such private information as shall lead to the same result. His Excellency is also pleased to offer in addition to the above rewards a FREE PARDON and tho Special Protection oj th&. Crown in any part of Her Majesty's Dominions to any person concerned in, or privy to, the said Murders other than the person or persons who actually committed the same, in case of his giving such information as shall lead to the con- viction ot the persons, or any of them, concerned in the Murders aforesaid. And whereas any person who knowingly receives into his or her house or otherwise harbours or maintains any of the persons who committed the said Murders, or conceals or aids any of them in escaping or endeavouring to escape from justice becomes liable to penal servitude for life : His Excellency is pleased hereby to offer a reward © f FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within three months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the CONVICTION of any person who has so received, harboured, maintained, or concealed, or assisted in endeavouring to escape from justice, or who shall receive, harbour, maintain, or conceal, or assist in endeavouring to escape from justice, any of the persons who committed the said Murders. By His Excellency's Command, R. G. C. HAMILTON. The above rewards will be paid, on conviction, by D. B. Franks, Esq., the Resident Magistrate at Gort, to those who may become entitled to them under the conditions of this Proclamation. Kildare. DESCRIPTION of John Cross, native of Drumshrue, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 27th August, 1882, at Drumshrue, in the barony of Connell, parish of Kilmeague, maliciously set fire to a stable, the property of his father, Thomas Cross:— Blue eyes, short thick nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet 0 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair, shaves chin and upper lip, wears side whiskers, which are brown ; wore a soft hat, dark coat, black trowsers, and plaid vest; is a labourer. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Police at Rathangan. Robertstown, August 29,1883. ( 47902 0.— 4783.) Ignatius Kelly, James Kelly, Michael Rogerson, John Rogerson, and Patrick Touhy ( attempt to blow up a gentleman's residence with dynamite), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 96th July, 1882. Patrick Donohoe ( assault endangering life), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry. 17th February, 1883. Thomas Walsh, alias Martin M'Hugh, alias Thomas Casey, ( suspected complicity in murder), not arrested ; Hue- and Cry, 7th February, 1883. Kerry. DESOBIPTION of Patrick Galvin ( mother's surname Riordan), native of Caher, who stands charged with having, on the 16th August, 1883, at Gortagass, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Kenmare, seriously assaulted William Mayberry and John Lyne by stabbing, so as to endanger life:— Gray eyes regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 6 feet 7 inches high, about 23 years of age brown hair ; wore a dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest: is a labourer. This man will endeavour to emigrate. Kenmare, August 18, 1832. -( 58697 c.- 6197.) The woman, name and native place unknown ( suspected infanticide), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 24th July, 1883. The tramp, name and native place unknown ( robbery of clothing), described in Hue- and- Cry of 11th July, not arrested. Elizabeth Hynes f robbery of clothing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th June, 1882. Kilkenny. The two persons ( intimidation), described in the Hue- and- Cry of 7th July, 1882, not arrested. Michael Sullivan ( burglary), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th June, 1882. King's. DESCRIPTION of the following articles, burglariously stolen from the house of Edward P. Homan. at Drum- cooly, on night of 22nd instant, viz,:— Two large silver spoons, crest— rampant lion and star on top of the bandies; five silver tea spoons without crest; one silver salt spoon; one silver tbimble ; one silver egg spoon, with letters T. H.; two pair of scissors ; one penknife; one silver buckle for a shoe; one workbox ( mahogany), with brass plate on top loose, with letters R. W. inside on it, and contained one pair of spectacles and two receipts for poor rates; one for £ 10 and one for 4s. 6d. Edenderry, August 24, 1882. ( 62885 c.^- 4766.) Andrew Gonoude, described in Hue and- Cry of 2flth August, 1882, supposed to have been kidnapped, has returned to his father: he had gone voluntarily to work with a farmer near Blueball.- Tullamore, September 1 S,? 1883. John Bryan, ( firing at with intent to murder), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 21st February, 1883. Leitrim. Richard J. Fallis ( robbery of money), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, llth August, 1883. Arthur Donnelly ( failing to answer to his bail and take his trial on a charge of house attack and assault), not arrested-; Hue- and- Cry, 14th August, 1883. George Thompson, ( cattle stealing), not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 9th May, 1882. Limerick. DESCRIPTION of three men, names unknown, who stand charged with having, on tbe 31st August, 1883, stolen the sum of twenty pounds ten shillings, the property of Mrs. Margaret Hennessy, from her dwelling- house, in the barony of Lower Connello, parish of Kilscannell:— 1. Very tall, no hair on face; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat, and white flannel drawers. 2. About 6 feet 3 inches in height, black whiskers with rest of face shaved ; wore a jerry hat and dark clothes. 8. About middle height, no hair on face ; wore a jerry hat and dark clothes. DESOBIPTION of Mathew Moore, native of Rene- vanna, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of August, 1883, in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Doon, seriously assaulted his step- mother, Catherine Moore, from the effects of whichher life isin imminent danger :— Walks with a swinging gait; gray eyes, short cocked nose, pale sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 37 years of age, light brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, light tweed trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. Hugh Mulholland ( assault endangering life), not arrested;' Hue- and- Cry, 24th March, 1882. Longford. DESOBIPTION of John Richie, native of county Longford, who stands charged with having, on the 20th July, 1882, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, assaulted Thomas Farrell, Relieving Officer of Longford Union, by striking him with a stick over the left temple, thereby endangering his life. ( See Outrage Report, 22 July, 1882:— Hair growing far down on forehead, walks with his head down; small black eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, dark hair ; wore a black jerry hat, light tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer. He is likely to be seen about the Broadstone. seeking to beg from Longford people, or about the Exhibition. Sub- Inspector at Longford holds a warrant for his arrest. Longford, September 13,1882. DESOBIPTION of John Costello, native of Naas, and Kelly, native of Athlone, who stand charged with having, on the 9th September, 1882, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, stolen a pair of trowsers from the house of Christohper Gannon, tailor, of Longford :— 1. Very shabby appearance, shaves all his face, black moustache growing straight, small mark of burn on right side of upper lip; 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, looks older. 2. Very shabbily dressed ; 6 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, black hair and beard. ^ Longford, September 13,1882. ( 529' 8i c.— 4936.) DESCBIPTION of Edward Cooney ( mother's surname O'Boyle), native of Aughness, who stands charged with having, on the 20th day of August, 1882, in the barony of Erris, parish of Kilcommon, seriously assaulted one Patrick Sweeny, of Aughness, thereby placing his life in danger :— Remarkably large hands and feet, gray eyes, large nose, sallow complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age; wore a tweed coat, cord trowsers,. and tweed vest; is a farmer's son. Roscommon, DESCBIPTION of Martin Fox ( mother's name Catherine Crean), native of Lisduff, who stands charged with having, on the 16th August, 1882, in the barony of Frenchpark, parish of Tibohine, absconded from his parents, and cannot be found:— Freckled face, good- lookiDg, fair complexion, stout make, 3 feet 6 inches high, about 9 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a cap, whitish jacket; trowsers, and vest. Was in an industrial school for 3 months. Had his name on trowsers ; all his clothing belonged to the industrial school, and were given him on his discharge from that institution. ( 64166 o.— 4993.) DESCBIPTION of Mary Madden, supposed to be fictitious, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 95th August, 1882, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Killukin, at Gardenston, endangered the life of her infpaft male child by leaving it on the roadside:— Dark eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long face, slight make, 6 feet 4 inches high, about 36 years of age, dtqfk hair; wore a red Cashmere dress, brown or grayish shawl; barefooted; is a tramping vagrant. " DESCRIPTION of David M'Mullin, native of Stra, who stands charged with having, on the 19th August, 1882, in the barony of Upper Strabane, parish of Lower Bodoney, stolen from his master, Michael M'Crory, of Tievenameena, a brown tweed coat and a pair of moleskin trowsers :— 16 years of ago, 6 feet high, medium make, yellow complexion, regular smooth face, gray eyes, regular nose, brown hair; wore a shabby white hat, shabby bottle- green coat, old and shabby tweed trowsers and vest; is a native of Stra, near Newtownstewart, and is a servant boy. James Branigan ( cattle stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 4th July, 1883. James M'Guckin ( cattle stealing), not arrestee!; Hue- and- Cry, 33rd June, 1882. Sarah Ann M'Quiggans, described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, 1882, has not been found. Westmeath. DUBLIN CASTM, 26th May, 1883. WHEREAS at or about the hour of half- past two o'clock, P. M., on the 2nd April last, Mrs. Henry Smythe was shot dead in the demesne at Barbavilla, in the county of Westmeath, by some person or persons at present unknown: His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this Murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO THOUSAND POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same, or any of them. No reason can be assigned for his disappearance, but he may be of unsound mind, and it is'feared that he may do injury to himself or others.
