Notice.— It i> requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it it desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that tn information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offenoe oharged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all JLetters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and ef Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person hy whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and POLICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. FORGERY. Wanted on a charge of Forgery, and obtaining Money by false pretence?, at Shipton- on- Stour, on 5th instant:— GEO. STONE, baker, 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, slender figure, and has a large birth mark on right side of face, similar to pickled cabbage, of a bright red colour, nearly covering the right cheek and eye. Information to Mr. Supt. Hinde, Shipston- on- Stour, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, August 11. Absconded 21st ultimo, charged on a warrant witli forgery:— JAMES MEIKLEJOHN, a clerk, late of 21, Hartland Iload, Kentish Town, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion and hair, inclined to wavy, thin face, acquiline nose, slight build ; dressed in tweed suit and black deerstalker hat. Stolen from the person at Brighton on 3rd instant :— An open- face silver Geneva Watch, value £ 1. Also a silver Geneva Watch, No. 142, and snake- pattern silver Albert with oval silver Locket and Key attached. Also a diamond- shape Scarf Pin, with diamond in centre. Aslo a pair of black and aluminium Opera- glasses, maker's name ' W eat ley, New Bond- street,' London. Information to James Terry, Chief Constable, Brighter.— — Bow- street, August 8. Stolen from tho person in Knowsley Park on 7th inst. :— a silver keyless hunting Watch, f plate, maker ' Thos. Russell & Son.' Has ' made expressly for Henry Dagnall, Prescot,' engraved on dome. Information to Supt. Barker, County Police Office, Prescot, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Aug. 8. Stolen from the person, at Lewes Races, 4th and 5th inst.:— A brown leather Purse, containing £ C or £ 7 in gold, a return ticket from Lewes to London, 5s. in postage stamps 2 watch keys, and address cards. A pair of black Opera Glasses. A gold albert Chain, link drop, Seal and Locket attached. Also from a carriage:— A lady's brown Newmarket ^ oat, lined with brown silk. Stolen from tke person on 2nd instant :— A gold Englsh Lever Watch, maker ' Thomas Moore, Derby,' and a gold Albert Chain and Seal ( bloodstone on one side, green the other) attached. A gold Hunting Watch. A gold Hunting Watch, Swiss make, maker's name on faee ' Augustus Saltsman.' A silver Geneva Watch, dial slightly cracked over fig. III. Value £ 3. Stolen from the person on 25th ultimo, in a railway carriage between Carnforth aud Tebay, or on the highway between the railway station aud the Cross Keys Inn, Tebay : — a silver lever Watch, No. 44349, maker ' T. and E. Rhodes, Kendal,' with steel Chain attached, curb pattern. Supposed by three men of the following description, who travelled in the same train : 1st, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, and dark complexion ; dressed in dark coat, moleskh. trousers, and cap. 2ud, about 25 years of age, B feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light browu hair, light moustache, no whiskers; dressed iu dark coat, moleskin trousers, aud dark cap with peak. 3rd, from 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in a light grey tweed suit. These men left Tebay by a goods at 1040 p. m., ou 25th ultimo, for Darlington; two of them had tickets from Ulverston or Barrow to Darlington, the other had a ticket for Stockton. Information to Mr. Supt. Spencer, Appleby, Westmorland, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, August 2. Stolen from the person at Goodwood Races :— On 25th ultimo, a gold Pin, with blue stone, set round with diamonds. Also, a gold Hunting Watch, engiue- turned case, white face, gold hands and seconds. On 26tn ultimo, a gold Geneva Watch, black enamel back, No. 2500, maker ' Boltes, Geneva.' Also, a brown leather Book, containing .£ 60 ( two £ 10 Notes, balance in £ 5 Notes, Nos. 21852, 24853), owner's address in the book. A leather Purse, containing six £ 5 Notes, and a Ticket of Leeds County Conservative Association. Information to Mr. Supt. Clarke, County Polici Station, Chichester.— Bow- street, August 2. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of burglary, at Stanthorn, nead Middle- wicb, Cheshire :— a small Writing Desk, marktd 1 Wm. Pim- lott' on top ; about 7 yards of white Calico, 4 yards of grey Calico; a grey and white Table Cover, white flower in centre, and ink marks ; 1 drab Stocking, part knit, with Needles and wool; two grey linen Shirts, one with white lir. en front, both marked ' Wm. Pimlott' ou the lap ; and a Box contain- ing Eggs. Supposed by tramps. Information to Mr. Snpf. Hindley, County Constabulary, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, August 11. Stolen by means of burglary at Newport, Monmouth- shire, on the night of 7th iastant :— A gentleman's gold consular lever Watch, No. 18637, maker's name ' Vaugban, Newport,' and hair albert attached ; and £ 9 in Gold. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Derbv, during the night of 4th instant :— a lady's small silver Geneva Watch, chased back, no glass; is] discoloured, not having been worn for some time, had a small picceof green ribbon attached. Col., Chief Constable, Derby — Bow- street, August 8 HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Supposed stolen, on the night of 4tli iustant, from a field at Blackheath :— a light chestnut mare PoDy, 5 years old 12 hands high, hog mane, legs recently clipped, and has a piece cut out top of left ear. Information to Mr. Supt. Woollaston, Police Office, Brierley Hill, or to Sergeant Hand, Police Station, Blackheath, near Dudley, Staffordshire. Bow- strert, August 11. Stolen from a field at Barford, during the night of 8th instant:— a dark grey hack Mare, 3 years old, about 14 hands 1 inch high, has a wart under belly, and white mark on face, mane inclined to lie on both sides of neck, £ 2 reward will be paid by H. M. Sidney, the owner, ou recovery of the mare and conviction of the theif. Information to Mr. Supt. Galliers, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Gough, Police Station, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bcm- street, August 11. Stolen from a livery stable at Peterborough, on 5th inst,: — a black Horse, white star on forehead, 5 years old, about 141 hands high, one white heel; and a Cart, painted dark blue, picked out with yellow, brass plates or caps on end of shafts with 1 Noble & Son, Peterborough,'' Noble, Peterborough,' ou wheel caps, drab cushions in trap, black harness ( plated). Supposed by a man about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 6 ins. high ; dressed in drab or gi'ey suit. Information to J & me3 Hurst, Head Constable, Peterborough.— Bow- street, August 9. The Ilorse described in the Police Gazette of 8th instant, as stolen at Clenchside, Ecclefechan, and the undermentioned are wanted for the theft:— first, a man who gave the name of THOMAS ALLAN, a horse- dealer from Lisburn, County Down, Ireland, 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 ins. high, thin face, dark hair, and whiskers shaved off, but may be a week or two grown, dark complexion, dark eyes, has a bad squint in left, and winks much with it when speaking ; speaks with a strong Irish accent; has the appearance of a navvie ; dressed in grey or dark faded frieze jacket; moleskin sleeved waistcoat, which he sometimes wears above jacket, cord trousers, cap with peak, or may be a low crowned black felt hat, and lacing navvie boots without eyelets. Second, a man, name unknown, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high, fair hair, fresh complexion, blue eyes, and may have a slight fair moustache, proportionate make, is out- toed, and has a shuffling gait when walking ; speaks with a broker English accent; dressed in black cloth coat, black velveteen vest, dark trousers and cap, wears a red and blue or red and yellow striped Guernsey, which he sometimes wears over the vest; clothing a good deal worn. The above men left BramptoD, Cumberland, on 2nd instant, as they said to go to Newcastle, but afterwards talked about going to Lancashire, Are likely to be found in common lodging houses. If any previous con- victions are known against either of the above- described men, communicate with the Chief Constable here. Information to the Chief Constable, Couuty Buildings, Dumfries.— Btno- strset, August 9. Supposed stolen on 19tli ultimo, at Uttoxeter :— a young light roan- coloured bull Stirk. Information to Mr. Supt. Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant White, Uttoxeter, Stafford- shire,— Bow- street, August 8. Stolen from a field at Low Hill, Roydon, Essex, during night of 3rd instant:— a dark chestnut nag Mare, aged, white face, about 14 hands 2 inches high, broken winded, short square cat tail, large body and bag, in good condition. Infor- mation to Superintendent Lennon, Constabulary Office, Epping, Essex,— Bow- street, August 8. Stolen from a livery stable iu Boston, on 4tli instant:— a Horse and Trap. The horse is browu, 15 hands 3 inches high, rather low in condition, black legs, tail cut short, and has a large hole in near shoulder, having been torn. Plum- colour dog cart, one of the wheel caps is supposed to have ' Woollard, coach builder, Boston,' upon it, and back seat with blue cloth cushions; silver- mounted harness, nearly new, with bass collar ; a rug, black on one side, a tiger the other, and a black cane- handled whip. By S. R. LUMLEY, alias JOHN REECE, who lodged at Boston a few days, and stated he was an assurance agent, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rather broad set, light hair aud whiskers just beginning to grow, round features, and good- looking ; dressed iu a dark mixture cloth suit, stiff hard felt hat, laced boots with grained tops, white front and collar, but no necktie ; he carried a walking- stick with silver knob. A reward of £ 2 will be paid by the owner for the recovery of the property and apprehension of the thief. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Bellamy, Boston, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, August 8. Supposed stolen between 3rd and 5th instant, from a field in Middle Aston, near Deddington, Oxon :— 10 half bred, grey faedd Theaves, a small piece snipped out of the under side of left ear; in good condition. Information to Inspector Leech, County Police Station, Deddington, Oxon.— Boic- st. Angus'. 8. Stolen from a field at Hobbs Cross, Theydon Garnon, during the night of 31st ult, or early on morning 1st inst. :— three fat Sheep, mixed breed, one black, one brown, and one speckled faces. £ 20 reward will be paid to any persou or persons who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offenders. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen from a lodging- bouse at Prestwich, between 4 and 5 a.. m., 7th instant :- a grey mixture small plaid Shawl, with striped border, part worn. By a woman, who lodged in the house two nights, in company with a female child about two months old, and a man, whom she called her husband; the man left the house on the morning of the Cth, aud the woman between 4 and 5 a. m , 7th, taking with her the above- described shawl, and leaving the child " at the lodging- house. The woman is about 20 years of age, low set, fair complexion, and light brown hair ; dressed iu a grey dress, trimmed with browr fur, black hat with black flower and feather. The man who accompanied her appeared to be much older than the woman, is of low stout build, and was dressed in a suit of black clothes; they both have the appearance of Show people. Wanted at Andover, Hants, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 1 3s. 7id., at St. Mary Bjurne, Andover, between 8 and 10 a. ra , on 1st instant i— ELLHN RUM BOLD, 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, aid medium figure; a factory gir', aid'single ; wore a grey dress, black jacket and hat, and boots much worn. Ji accompanied by her little daughter, about 3 years of sge, and dressed h. a red thaw!, white stiaw hat, old and dirty, and old boots with red la'ieS. Stolen between 2 and 6 a. in. on 7th instant, from the George Hotel, Harrogate :— a 52- inch Coventry Machinist Special Club Bicycle, No. 27787, all nickle silver plated, except the rim of the wheels, which are mauve colour, a nickel silver plated Salisbury lamp in centre of large wheel; a Waltham silver lever Watch, No. 1270514, white face; st el hands, ' J. B. Iredale,' scratched inside inner case. Supposed by the hotel billiard marker, 19 years of age, 5 feet. G or 7 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair and moustache, slender build ; diessed in black and white check suit, nearly new, siul black billycock hat. The children's descriptions are— John Evans, 6 years of age, dressed in old blue suit and cap ; George Evanp, years of a » e, dressed in dark blue frock, dark cloth overcoat, blue felt hat, and slipper clogs ; Elizabeth Annie Evans, 18 months old, dres;, td in dark grey coat and cape, black velvet bonnet, trimmed with grey fur. Stolen at OVeston on 1st instant:— a dark mixture Coat ( nearly new) ; a dark plaid Vest, nearly new; a pair of heavy nailed watertight Boots, with tips on heels, six eyelet holes each side, with three hooks on top ; a silver verge Watch, ' G. R.' scratched on outside of inner case Supposed by a tramp, from SO to 40 years of age, 5 fset 4 or 5 ins. high, light complexion, hair, and beard ( beard and whiskers of about a week's growth) ; dressed in light round moleskin jacket, light trousars and vest; and black bowler hat. By a man, 35 years of age, 5 f- et G inches high, dark sandy whiskers, Iresh complexion, and dirty appearance ; dressed in old brown velveteen jacket, old cortl trousers, old lace- up Boots, and old hard felt hat; travels the canal between Chester and Newtown as jobbing boatman.
