Notice.— 11 " requested that all communications for tho purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to tho POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. •„• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably aecessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by the persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the roturn of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." At 2 a. m. on lllh instant, a hay rick was set on fire at Hensington, Oxon, supposed by two tramps :— one about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, daik tushy whiskers and moustache ; dressed in old grey suit, soft felt hat; the other about 30 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, clean shaved ; dressed in dark' coat, white corduroy trousers, round hard felt hat; seen going in the direction of Chipping Norton, same morning. Informa- tion to Inspector Hawtin, Woodstock, Oxon.— Bow- sireet, June 12. FORGERY. Description of HENRY VINCENT, chargcd on a warrant with obtaining £ 24 12s., upon a forged cheque at Chepstow, on 27th ultimo ( see Police Gazette of 7th instant): — his chin is not shaved, was formerly in the provision trade at Redland, Bristol, and was then known by the name of RICHARDSON, likely to be found doing business with stock brokers. Lennon, Constabulary Office, Epping, Essex.— Bow- st., June 14, Stolen by means of burglary at Loose on 8th instant: — one Bottle of Whisky; one do. pale Brandy; a quantity of Tobacco, and about 5s. in Money, supnosed by a man about 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion, very slight moustache, no whisker*, beard two or three days growth ; dressed in blueish tweed eoat aud trousers, elastic side boots, and hard black felt hat, carried a rule in his pocket, and had the appearance of a carpenter. Stolen during the night of 5th instant, from a powder magazine, at Sandfield Bridge, Pensnett:— a Box, 2 feet long, and 8 inches square, and containing 400 compressed blasting gunpowder Cartridges, each cartridge is i lb. weight, 3 inches long, If inch diameter, and a hole through the centre, which is square at one end and round at the other, and enclosed in a small red paper bag, which is stamped ' Low- wood Gunpowder Mills, Ulverston, Established 1799, Explosive, Ammunition, Class 1, Division 2, L. W. Compressed Blasting Gunpowder Cartridges'; the box ia marked outside with a stamp similar to the above. Entrance effected by forcing the door with a bar. Information to Mr. Supt. Stolen at Newmarket by means of burglary during the night of 6th instant:— a gold keeper Ring, 18 carat; a pair plated Bracelets; a round silver Brooch, size of florin, with gilt bird in centre ; an old silver watch Guard, chain pattern. Also 4 white metal Chains and Lockets; 3 suits plated Studs, 2 plain, 1 chased ; a plated Brooch, painted centre; 5 gilt Brooches; 3 silverine do ; 4 pairs Solitaires ; 1 old Canadian gold Albert; 2 Bangles ; 1 Bracelet, plated, and 1 old buck handle Knife, much worn. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Charged with stealing a Horse and Trap, at Blackpool, on 10th instant ( recovered) :— a man, 25 years of age, 5 ft. 4 inches higb, fresh complexion, light hair, grey eyes, slight light moustache, cut mark on forehead, round featured, medium build ; dressed in grey mixture cloth suit, black hard billycock hat, and shoes. Information to Mr. Supt. Stafford, Kirkham, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 16. The bay gelding Pony, advertized in the Police Gazette of 7th instant and subsequent dates, as stolen from Asbtead, Surrey, has been recovered at Woodford, Essex, and the first man described is in custody charged with stealing the same, and remanded until the 19th instant, he gives tho name of ABRAHAM BRINKLEY. The second man described is still at large. Information to Supt. Lambert, Surrey Con- stabulary, Dorking.— Bow street, Jum 1C. Found at Bolehall, near Tamworth, on 18th ultimo ( sup- posed stolen) :— a light bay nag Mare, 3 years old, about 15 hands high, white star on forehead, small patch of white on near side of nose, and snveral small white spots on near side of neck, near hind fetlock white, and a few white hairs on the outside of off bind fetlock, tail cut Bhort, and has shoes on fore feet only. Wanted for stealing a Horse at Bred gar, Kent, on night of 9th instant ( sold at Maidstone on 10th instant) :— a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight make, thin face, freckled ; dressed in dark cap, dark check coat, reaching below knees, and corded trousers, ragged at bottom. Stolen from a field at Solihull Lodge, during the night of 4th instant:— a lemon and white coloured Pony, 3 years old 11 hands high, and has a long tail. Stolen between 9' 30pm, 8th, and 5 a. m., 9th, from a stable at Victoria- road, Peckbam :— a brown Cart Horse, 1C| hands high, large blood spavin on near hind leg, in low con- dition. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Cow and a Calf, ( recovered):— CHARLES JAMES MORETON, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, proportionate built, rather round shouldered, dark whiskers round face and under chin, hollow cheeks, has bad teeth, lost some upper jaw, and generally hai a good deal of slaver about his mouth ; dressed in a new brown felt hat, dark grey jacket or coat, old brown cloth trousers, and old shoes, much worn at the heels, said to be ruptured, and to wear a truss. Charged on warrant with obtaining a Pony and Cart by false pretence at Heathfield, Sussex, o l 14th of April last :—- WILLIAM HICKS, 28 or 30 yeais of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 ins. high, dark complexion, one upper front tooth deficient, dark hair, few dark whiskers at side of face, other part of face clean shaved, medium figure. Native of Burwash, Sussex, is a low horse dealer, generally dressed in grey tweed suit and hard round felt bat, was recently spen at Croydon, Surrey. Information to Mr. Supt. Wm. Wagborn, D. C. U., Hailsham, Sussex, who holds the warrant for hi* apprehension.— Bow- street, June 12. Stolen during the night of GUi instant, at Wood house's Farm near Bishop Auckland :— a bay cart Mare, iu fair con- dition, aged, about 10 hands 2 inches higb, white star on forehead, white patch on each shoulder, short switch tail; also a horse- blinder- head Collar. Charged with stealing, on 7th instant : a horse Pony, about 14 hands high, light bay colour, a few white hairs on chine, short tail and mane; a two- wheeled Drag to carry four passenger?, two before a . d two behind, arched body, body painted plum colour, wheels, springs, and shafts fine lined with red ; three brown leather Cushions and one blue cloth ditto, a mackintosh Rug, a kuotted cano Whip with dark drab stock ; black leather Harness, silver- mounted, square turrets, red aud white striped brow band on bridle :— by a man, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light complexion, with slight moustache ; dressed in grey mixture suit, black billycock hat, and elastic- side boots ; had a re- spectable appearance. Sampson, Low & Co., publishers, 188, Fleet Street, 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, supposed dress, dark clothes. Information to the Inspector on duty. AGNES BCD GEN, advertised in the Police Gazette of 22nd August last, has been arrested and sentenced to G weeks imprisonment.— Bow- street, June 16. Wanted on a warrant, charged with embezzlement:— JAMES S. HINE, a compositor, late of 55, Charlotte- rtreet, Caledonian- road, Islington, 35 years of ago, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, fair beard and moustache. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry, London, E C.— Vow- street, June 16. Absconded from Corwen, charged with stealing'two 2- Shilling Pieces, one of them marked ' DC.'; 2 Sixpences and 9 Shillings, in all 14s ; a Pocket Knife with two blades, one smaller than the other ; also some Bills with ' Aberystwith r unon them. By a man, a member of the Carnarvonshire Militia, 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair and light moustache, ° no whiskers ; dressed in brown cloth cap, light ragged coat, with patches on the elbows, light cotton cord trousers, and supposed Militia boots, with tips at heels and toes; he goes about working with farmers. Description of EDWARD nARRY RAMSEY, book canvasser, charged on warrant with stealing 4 Watches, 3 Bibles, a Musical Box, and a Musical Album, all found pledged ; about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches higb, left hand withered, and has lost several fingers off the same hand ; dressed in light suit, brown felt hat. lie is well known at Guildford and Camberwell. Information to Mr. Supt. Pike St. Albans, Herts.— Bow- street, June 16. Stolen since 12th instant, from the Officers' Quarters a1, Winchester Barracks:— Two 50- rupee Notes, £ 3 Gold, 7s. Silver ; three Sets of gold Studs, 1st, reddish- brown stone ( encircled by four diamonds, one diamond deficient in one of the studs), 2nd, plain backs and engraved fronts, 3rd, small stones or diamonds in centre; a single Stud, gold back and black front, supposed metal; a gold Signet Ring, stone in centre, engraved with the figure of a man. Charged with stealing a Basket containing a bottle and a quantity of eatables ( recovered), at Attleboro' on 3rd inst. : — EDWARD WEIR, 41 years of age, 5 feet 101 inches high, dark brown beard, whiskers and moustache ( supposed); dressed in an old suit of blue serge and soft chummy hat. Ha walks very erect, has lost hi3 right hand and wears a crook which he generally carries in his pocket. He has undergone several terms of imprisonment, and one of penal servitude, is ' a notorious thief and expert burglar. He frequents low lodging house?, arid occasionally attends fairs, & c. selling nuts or watercresses, is a native of Norwich. Description of ERNEST HALL, charged on warrant with stealing, at Boney Hay, Birntwood, on 5th instant: a black loather Purse, containing 15s.:— he is about 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair cut short, Blender build, squints with both eyes ; dressed in light tweed jacket, single- breasted, pockets on hips, vest same material, black corduroy trousers, red woollen shirt, plaid shirt collar, and old elastic- oide boots; a native of Rrereton, near Rugeley, worked as a horse driver at Cannock Chase Colliery, and was formerly in Lichfield Workhouse. Stolen at Haughton Lodge, Shifoal, between 6 ana 8 p. m. on 11th instant:— a silver verge Watch, No. 124, maker's name ' William Davis, Shiffnai' on plate inside, a bit broken off long hand, bull's- eye glass, the outside case was sold to a watchmaker in Shifaal, on the afternoon of 12th instant, by a man about 22 years of age, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout build, brown fate, little or no whiskers, had the appear- ance cf a sailor ; dressed in a blue serge jacket, black cap, with leather peak, and dirty or blue trousers. Wanted at Neweaatle- under- Lyme, charged with stealing on 12th ultimo, a silver Geneva Watch, No. 0393 :— JOSEPH BABRATT, alias GEORGE ROBERTS, a tramping clock and watch cleaner, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, round shouldered, grey hair and whiskers, thin face, prominent nose, dark complexion ; dressed in black hard Lit hat, black cloth shooting jacket, and dark tweed trousers. Absconded from Devizes on 29th April last, charged with embezzlement:— WILLIAM EYLES, a clerk, 20 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, thin build aud face, has a mole on right side of face, about the size of a pea, large mouth, sallow complexion, dark eyes, lather long neck, carries his head a little forward, dark brown hair, no whiskers, very slight- moustache, of good address, and fond of music ; dressed in a half dress coat, light trousers, and black bowler hat.
