Notice.— It i « requested that all communications for tho purpose of obtaining* or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the tame, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offense charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Eflitor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will uot be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and o! Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forw arded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly;—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tine persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without lha apprehension of the offender. It is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to receive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " Tho Editor, Bow Street, London." Whereas on 16th instant, the dead body of a nowly- boru Male Child, was found in the Moat, near | Southsea Beach, wrapped in an old brown linsey petticoat, and a linen napkin ; and at the inquest on 19th instaut, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against gome person or persons unknown,' was re- turned. Notice is hereby given, that £ 50 Reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person, other than a person belonging to a police force in the United Kingdom, who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and the Secretary of State will advise the grant of Her Majesty's Gracious Paidon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. The dead body of a newly- born female Child was found at a hedge bottom in Hope Road, Sale, wrapped in brown paper, tied round with string, made un in the form of a parcel. An inquest held on the body on 19th instant, when a verdict of' Wilful Murder' was returned ' against some per- son or persons unknown.' Information to John Leigh ton. Absconded, charged on warrant with uttering a forged acceptance of a Bill of Exchange for 1' 93 fa. 9d. :— JOHN ADKINS JONES, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 8 ins. high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, medium build, and of gentlemanly appearance; dresses in dark fashionable clothes, light tie, and round hard hat ; he has been in business as an iron and tin plate merchant, at 49, Princess- street, Manchester, trading as Barrow, Davis & Co. ; he has in his possession cheque books of the Lancashire and York- shire Bank, Shude Hill, Manchester, and the Sheffield Branch of the Birmingham, Dudley, and District Banking Company; he has been in the habit of staying at first class hotels, and having his letters addressed ' Barrow, Davis & Co., General Post Office'; he has had letters so addressed to Manchester, Stockpoft, Birmingham, and Bristol. Stolen from the person at Hodnet Suiitlifield Auction, Salop, on 17th inst.:— a black leather Purse, with steal clasp on top, also a pocket inside, fastened ou top with steel clasp, containing 8s. in Silver, ( all shillings), aud two- pence half- peny in copper money. Stolen during the Athletic Sports at Dull infield on 20th instant:- a gold Watch and Chain, No. 66367, makers Thomas Russell and Son, Liverpuol'; a silver lever centre seconds Watch, No. 3674 ; a silver Lever Watch, No. 24267. Stolen from a beer- house at Sheffield, during the night of 19th or the morning of 20th insttnt, by meausof burglary :— a pair of man's clastic- side Boots, 6 size, toe capped, only once worn ; 2 electro- plafed Salts, egg- cup shape, acorn pattern ; a silver Salt Spoon, shovel pattern, fancy engraved ; a Ditto, spade pattern, open handle and ivy leaves engraved thereon ; 2 silver Gravy Spoons ; a silver Nut Crack, beaded pattern ; a silver butter Knife, without handle ; 2 large Jam Spoons, one fancy pattern and the other ivy leaf ; a box of Cigars, branded j ' Trabucos '. Stolen at Luton by means of burglary on the morning of 19th instant :— 3 gold Geneva Watches, 18 carat cases ; 5 silver Geneva Watches, crystal glasses and second hands; 6 silver Geneva " Watches, with chased glasses. Supposed by two men, one about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, hard felt hat, double breasted vest, white front and dark tie. The other Is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes and hard felt hat. The No. on one of the gold watches is 62496, and one of the silver watches is No. 34604. The tallest of the two men is believed to have severely cut his right hand in breaking the window ; they left behind them at Luton, a tin trunk, containing, besides other things, a pair of military gloves, and several other articles of a soldier's outfit, some of which are marked ' J. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at Westeiham, between 3 and 4 p. m. 19th instant: — a black ribbed cloth Coat, pocket on each hip, card pocket right side, one pocket outside and one inside left breast, brownish colour lining, nearly new ; a black cloth Vest with striped lining ; a pair of dark grey cloth Trousers, lined with unbleached calico ; a pair of light lace- up Boots, patch on heel of left, and the stif- fening cut out of right; a soft grey billycock Hat, with white metal buckle on band ; a white cotton Shirt; 3 blue striped ditto ( men's size), and 3 linen Collars, one 15 size and two 13 size. Supposed by a man who was seen near the house, carrying a paper parcel, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark hair and whiskers meeting under chin ; dressed in dark clothes, hard round hat, and lact- up boots. SMITH, generally goes by the name of PETER, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stoutish build, no whiskers, Eandy moustache ; dressed in a black dress coat, light cloth trousers and waistcoat,| blue necktie with white spots, belongs to Ilackney- road, London. GEORGE SIMPSON, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slim build, slight black moustache, side whiskers, ( which may have been shaved off); dressed in black frock coat, light cloth waistcoat, dark tweed trousers, black silk necktie, and elastic- side boots, belongs to Shoreditch. CRANSTON junr., a commercial traveller, about 35 or 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, grey eyes, dark hair, thick bard and moustache, inclined to be sandy, fresh complexion, stout built, and has a commanding manner ; dressed in black fnck coat, dark trousers, and vest, top hat, stand up collar, with peaked corners, and large tie. Absconded from Leek on 17th instant, charged with stealing a Cow ( since recovered) :— a youth, 17 yeareof age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light lair, no whiskers or moustache, slender build, single, a farm Srvant, and a native of Leek, Staffordshire. Charged on warrant with stealing 2 Cows ( recoveed) at BHston, on 17th instant: - JAMES BROWN, 38 yara of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh complexion, browi hair, bushy sandy whiskers and moustache, walks erect, rather long features, long thin hands, which are drawn and almost useless from rheumatism ; dressed in hard felt hat, black and white plaid woollen scarf, short blue pilot jacket, dirty white moleskin trousers and vest, and elastic- side boots. Is sup- posed to be accompanied by an Irish woman, his wife and family residing at Bolton, Lancashire. He has been an in- patient at the Union Hospital at Bolton, suffering from rheu- matism ; he is a labourer and a native of Bilstou. Informa- tion to Chief Snpt. Stolen from a yard at Harmood Street, Kentish Town, during the early morning of 11th instant:— a dun horse Pony, 11 years old, 13 hands high, brown points, in good con- dition; a light open front cart, painted dark blue with yellow lines, slots for name board on back and sides, ' Henry Wal- singham' written on shaft, several new spokes in each wheel, which are only ronghly painted and not lined in or varnished, rail to seat padded and covered with dark blue cloth ; also a set of brass mounted Harness ( old), and brown Collar, rather large. Stolen during night of 12th instant, from a field at Potter's Bar :— a dark brown Mare, 4 years old, 15j hands high, large head, small star in centre of forehead, hangs lower lip, mane and tail cut short, white mark on one hind foot, and legs trimmed, rather dog legged. Supposed stolen at Wolstanton during the night of 10th instant:— a dark brown Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, long tail, maue hangs over both sides of neck, 6 white spots ou near side of back, and lame on near foreleg. And a bay Cob, about 14 hands high, tail cut short, off hiud foot white, aud lame on off foreleg. Stolen from Redburn, Herts, on 16th instant :— a dark chestnut mare Pony, about 13 hands high, slight chip on both knee?, hog main, main cut close where collar fits, a lump on the near side of the nose ; a set of brass plated Harness, in good condition, with brass brow piece on bridle ; a Cart, with red lined body, inside dark, and dark painted wheels, the splash aboard is broken on the near side, and spliced with copper wire, each shaft is bound round with a piece of curd close to the body of the cart. Supposed by 3 men ;- one about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark eyes, dark hair, dark moustache ; wears a frock coat, dark striped trousers, dark vest, hard felt hat, light cloth boots, with pearl buttons ; another 5 feet 4 inches high, rather dark, big nose, and pitted with small pox; dressed in light jacket, with pockets at side, dark trousers and vest, soft light hat, with a button on top ; the other 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high ; dark coat, dark vest and trousers, dark brown hair, a dark moustache, aud a dark tie. with pin, travels as paper bag seller for Thomas Poulter and Suns, 6, Arthur Street, London, E. By ft servant, named MARY G BAH AM, about 19 years of age, about 5 feet high, fresh complexion, very dark brown hair, scald marks ou arms and hands, on forehead, and a little on nose ; dressed, when phe left Bolton, in a white straw hat, trimmed with a yellow feather and cream- coloured ribbon, very dark green Ulster and plain morocco boots with elastic sides. She has worked on the Coalpit- lrow, also at a brewery, near Wigan, where she was scalded 6 years ago ; she has also of late been employed as domestic servant at public- houses. Information to Mr. . SALTER, who took private lodgings, and after staying seven nights, left without paying his bill, stealing 4 Coats, 2 Vests, and 1 pair of Trousers:— He gave the name of Frederick Seafort, and stated that he was a traveller, collecting infor- mation for a directory, is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 8 inches h'gh, rather pale complexion, brown hair, sandy br brown moustache, no whiskers, sharp features, rather high cheek bones, large nose, slightly round shouldered, of gentle- manly appearance, goo'd address, end has thn- appeavance of a commercial traveller; dressed, when he left on 19th instant, m a black diagonal cloth shooting coat, tide pockets and one in left breast, ditto vest, grey striped cloth trousers, elastic- side boots, right boot worn down very much at outside of heel and through at toe, left boot in better condition, low crown black felt hat. In January, 1880, he kept a provision shop with beer ( off) licence in Russel- street, Hulme, Manchester, His mode of action is to take private lodgings, and generally represents that his luggage is being sent after him. He is very fond of company, frequentB billiard rooms, and may be found in the company of prostitutes.
