O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Desertors from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AH © MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 2nd instant, the dead Body of TH03. PYLE, of TJshaw Moor, platelayer, was found between Red Hill- terrace and Crossgate Moor, near Durham. At the inquest the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown.' A reward of £ 100 will be paid by ! lei Majesty's Government, and a further reward of £ 100 will be paid by H. Chaytor, Esq., Witton Castle, to any person ( other than a person belonging to the Police Force in the United Kingdom), who shall give such information and evi- dence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer oi murderers ; and the Secretary of Statu will ad- vise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious paidon to any accom plice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Description of HENRY" BORTON MAY, late of Ast- wick, near Brackley, charged cn warrant with Forgery, where- by he obtained £ 30 from the Brackley Branch of the Bucks and Oxon Banking Company, on 9th instant, he received in part payment four £ 5 Notes on the same Bank, numbered respectively 29555, 29990, 29723, 29053. lie is also suspected of stealing the following blank Cheques, from a chcque book onabove Bank, numbered respectively, 513375,513378,513381, 513384, 513385, 513390, 513392, 513393, 513394, 513S96, 513399, the property of Mr. John Lord, of Astwick, with whom he was staying at the date of the forgery, he is well known in London, more particularly in Cheapside, Hackney, Peckhasn Rye, Gordon Square, Fassett Square, and Gieenwood Row, Dalston, also in Oxford :— he is 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 crlO inches high, stout, fresh complexion, the end of his nose is frost bitten, he having been in Canada, dark hair, and dark whiskers and moustache, dark eyes, and very dark eyebrows ; dressed when last seen in black curly cloth overcoat, with braid across the front, brown jacket, and dark trousers, and brown felt hat, of gentlemanly appearance, very fond of smoking, has been iu America, and frequently speaks of haviog been abroad, and of having plenty of money. Stolen by means of housebreaking, em 20th instant:— a Cash Bos, about 10x8 inches, minted black and gold, con- taining a massive gold blue enamelleel Bracelet, consisting of about ten mother of pearl medallions, each about the size of a shilling, engraved with heads, between each is a bar, bearing a gold £ r cone, a piece is broken off one of the medallions, fastens with a clasp ; a Brooch to match, with a spring under the pin ; three Seals, viz. :— t- ne red comedian, one white cornelian, crest— a spread eagle, one bloodstone sea', also engraved with a spread eagle, with motto in Indian characters ; a malachite and silver Bracelet, bnckle and chain pattern ; Cheque Book, on Grindley'a Bank, with seven forms removed ; a Will on Parchment, dated June, 1876, signed M. J. Brooke; several Accounts, Letters, and Store Tickets, all bearing the name of ' Mrs. Pettle'; several German and other silver Coins, having holes through them. Information to Chief Snpt. Information to IIe.- ad Constable Cole, Bridgenorth.— Bo- ic- street, April 21, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Absconded from Barnard Castle, on 21st instant, charged with stealing a Peny ( recovered), at Marwood, on ths night of 19th instant:— this man has been serving in the Militia, at Barnard Castle, since 10th instant, as JOHN ROBINSON, ( supposed fictitious), he is about 29 years of age, 5 feet ins, high, fair complexion, bine eyes, sandy hair, proportionate figure, has rather a soldierlike appearance, frequents common lodging- houses, and ia accompanied by a woman, about 26 yrs. of age, black hair, proportionate figure, and very much pock- pitted ; knits fancy caps, & c., which the hawks about the country. Information to Mr. Supt. Thompson, Police Office, Barnard Custle.— jjou- street, April 20. Failed to surrender to his bail at the General Quarter Se ssions at Worcester, ou 3rd instant, he being charged with stealing a Horse at Halesowen, on 3rd February last:— GEORGE COX, alias SMASH, 41 years of age,' 4 feet 11 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, no whiskers; dressed when last seen in dirty brown coat, moleskin trotsers old soft hat ( cloth,) and wore clogs, is a native of Stourbridge and frequents Birmingham Market, and may befonnd driving cattle from there. Information to Mr. Supf. Hardman, Old- bury, Worcestershire, or to Sergeant Raybould, Police Station, Halesowen, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 21. Charged with stealing a Pony and Tray at Aldeburgh on 3rd instant:- WILLI AM HENRY BEITS, advertised in Police Gazette on 31st ultimo, as having stolen a Horse and Cart at Lewishara on 24th, is apprehended and committed for the next ass; aes at Ipswich. Information to Supt. Wm, Balls, Framliugham, or P. C, Wm. Hammond, Aldeburgh. — Bow- street, April 21. Absconded from Freemautle, Hants, on 3rd instant, charged with stealing a mare Pony ( siuce recovered) :— a man, about 18 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, brown hair, and fair complexion ; dressed in tight- fitting cord trousers and vest, brown mixture tweed jacket, and black Lard bowlet hat; a stable keeper, native of Petworth, Sussex, an associate of horse copei a. Was at Petworth on 15th instant, and ia now supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Brighton. Information to Mr. Supt. Mintram, Hants Constabulary, Bitterne, Southampton.— Byw- street, April 21. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Absconded from Salford, charged on warrant with steal- ing £ 30, on 24th instant:— THOMAS SKFl'ON, a carter, 33 years of age, 5 feet 10J inches high, fresh complexior, brown hair and eyes, scar on back of left hand, and active appearance ; has served iu the Liverpool Police Force, and in the Burnley and Barrow- in- Furness Divisions of Lancashire Police. Information to the Detective Department, Salford.— — Bcw- xtreet, April 28. Charged 011 warrant with embezzlement:— JAMES DAVIS, 45 to £ 0 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches higb, medium build, square shoulders, has been iu the army, fresh complexion, high forehead, light browu hair turning grey, and bald on temples, uiualiy wears duudreary jvhiskers; a clerk, h* a relations residing at 69, Gooding's- road, New Oattle Market, London. £ 10 reward will be paid by John Taylor, pointer, 152, Broad- street, Birmingham, for such in- formation as shall lead to his apprehension. Absconded from High Wycombe, changed on a warrant with stealing about £ 30 in Gold:- JOSEPH REEVES, a tuiUliiUnr. u, a native of Woburu, Bucks, itboul IS years of age, 5 feet Ojnches high, medium build, fresh ^' omplexiois, brown eyes, and dark brown hair, is a labourer; dresseel in" regi- mentals, but will probably replace them by purchasing civilian clothing. Stolen at Harborne, during the past 12 months : — four new Blankets; five pairs of twilled calico Sheets ; three or four bolster Slips ; eight or nine pitlow Slips ; two feather Pillows ; a coloured Table- cover ; a plaid neck Shawl; an imitation paisley Shawl; anew red fUniiul Petticoat; two new Dresses, old- fashioned make, oue snuff colour, and one bluo striped ; a pair of grey cloth Trousers, flap fronts, nearly new ; two silk Neckerchiefs, one yellow stripe, and one blue mixture ; a quantity of woman's under Linen ; a blue and white Counterpane; a patchwork Quilt; an oiet silver verge Watcb, open face, white dia', seconds hand deficient, dial chipped ; and £ 30 in Gol- J. By a woman, 60 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, btout build, hair turning grey ; dressed iu black bonnet and shawl, brown dresa, and elastic- aide boota; has friends residing at Smethwick, Staffordshire, and Ilarbury, War- wickshire. Information to Mr. Supt. Whitelrurst, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, or to Sergeant Kavanagh, Har- borne, near Birmingham.— Bow- slreet, April 28. JAMES H. WORTHY, described in Police Gazette 14th instant aa a license holder, Reg. No. V 548, has a small scar over second joint right linger, 5 vaccination marks on right arm, dimple chin, 3 small white scars left side of neck, 2 email scars on right brefmt, one on left breast inside and above nipple, a smaller one below lower left libs, scar above light groin, and above left groin, several whitish scars over shoulders, small brown scar on left shin, veins slightly vari- cose ( especially right leg), and left pupil widely dilated. Was convicted at the Central Criminal Court on 29th Feb., 1864, for embezzlement; also on 25th October, 1809, for forgery, and sentenced to 14 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision. Information to Inspector McWilliam, Detective Department, City of London Police, 20, Old Jewry, E. G.— Bow- street, April 28. Stolen about 18th instant:—- a scarf Pin, round enamel with pearla; a gold Wheebarrow with nuggets ; agolii Spad « Pin with nngget; a gold Pin with hair drop; Studs, gold and light blue enamal; a gold and dark coral serpent; a gold light coral roses ; 2 tortoise and gold filigree ware ; 3 onyx set in gold rope pin. Buttons, about half a dozen gold aid coral serpent settings ; 4 gold, sewn with gold thread ; gold coins on a gold ring. Lockets, gold ( qy.) gilt, with a horseshoe on one side and poitrait of a little girl inside; 1 gold chased oval with portrait of a boy inside. Albert, heavy gold with bar in centre, and a ball shaped like a bomb . shell with a photo and hair inside, recovered, also a black cloth overcoat, which ha* been turned, purple lining and plain collar. By JOHN CUMMINS, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hvr, no whiskers, heavy moustache ( which may now be shaved off), large scar on upper lip, soidier like appearance, has been a gunner in the Royal Artillery, has bought his discharge which he is supposed to have with him ; dreaded in soft billycock hat, dark suit, two white shirts, one marked ' G. H. B. Reed,' a white woollen scarf, low Uce- np shoes, and ( supposed) th- i stolen overcoat Supposed that his mother resides at 8, Stan-, bury- street, Old Ford, London. Information to Mr. Supt. A. P/ ppio, Fa'meuth.— Bow street, April 26. 2 Wanted on warrant, charged with stealing a quantity of Iron, at Ettingshall, on! 9th instant:— JOHN WlLDMAN, 19 years of age, B feet 6 inches high, light completion, brown hair, grey eyes, slender buiid, thin features, prominent nose ; dressed in a brown hard felt hat, light silk neckhandkerchief, coarse black and white check shirt, brown worsted Cardigan jacket, brown moleskin trousers, nearly new, and light lacc- ap boots ; native of ilttingshall, siogle ; is a convicted thief, and may be found sleeping in boat cabins or in iron works ; is a boatman or labourer in iron works. Absconded from Brecon on 14th instant, charged on • warrant with embezzlement:— JOHN MORGAN^ post- master of Brecon, from 46 to 48 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, medium built, pale complexion, ( lark browu hair, slight dark brown whiskers, beard and moustache, dark hazel eyes, has a broken tooth in front of upper jiw, walks erect; dressed in a double breasted blue ribbed cloth ] icket and vest, pepper and salt coloured waterproof overcoat; grey striped trousers, black hard felt hit, and elastic tide boots, Is fond of boastiDg when in drink, and very free with his money. He has a sou ( supposed) employed as a telegraph clerk in Gloucester, and his wife lias frieuds in Oxford and London. It is supposed he will endeavour to go abroad. Information to Mr. Supt. James Watkins, Borough Police Station, Brecon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bystreet, April 24, Charged at WediiettielJ on warrant with alraling £ 3 0s 6J. it Gold and Coppers, on 17th instant: - JOHN ROBINSON alias BUCK, about 18 or 1£ years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light brown hair, light complexion, small light whiaksrs on each side of face, proportionate build, supposed to have a lump on left shoulder, a night latch maker, and a native of Wednesfield ; dressed in a blue pilot jicket, brown moleskin trousers, black hard billycock hat and strong lace- up boots. Stolen at Worldham, Hard?, between 6 p m,, 3lat ultimo, and 5 a. m,, 1st instant a pair of horse Ribbons, two si.- le • Reins,. four Topknots, and a Front- piece to bridle ( recovered). By a man, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, medium build, and dressed in dark coat, white cotton jrcket underneath, cord trousers, lace- up boots, and soft felt hat; states he is a native of Appleshaw, near Andover, - Hants. When last seen he was inquiring his way to Kingston- on- Thames,* Iuformationjto Mr, Supt. E, Paine, Hants Constabu- lary, Alton.— Soio- iit/ cel, Ap il 24, Absconded from Uppingham, on 14th instant, charged on ' warrant with stealing Three Bank of England £ 5 Notes : GEO. ROBT, CLARKE, solicitor's clerk, 17 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair, hazej eyes, dark complexion, and Urge full round face ; dressed iu dark brown tweed cloth jacket and trousers, the latter mended ivith a patch inside both knees with same material, dark tweed cloth vest, hard black billy hat, and half boats. The Notes were exchanged for gold before he absconded. Infor- mation to the Chief Constable of Rutland, Oakham, or to Mr. Supt, Murfitt, Uppingham, who holds- the warrant for , apprehension.— Bow- slrte', April 24. Wanted ofi St warrant charged with larceny fiom lodgings at Hednesford. on 18th instant :- JAME3 SHITKER, miner, 28 years of age, 6 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, slight light moustache, bhie eyes, rather stout build, large nose, with lump on centre; dressed in soft black felt hit, brown cloth jacket, striped vest and trousers, single, native of Ketley, Salop. Shuker absconded with his landlady, taking 2 cotton Sheets, and a market Basket, Information to Mr. Supt. Hackney, Brownhills, or to Sergeant Wlialley, Hfednes- tord, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — bow- street, April 24, Absconded from Bournemouth on 2nd instant, charged on warrant with stealing 2 Casks and 1 Bag ( recovered):— SAMUEL OSBOENK, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, medium build, light browu hair, grey or light blue eyes, fair complexion, very little whiskers or moustache ; dtessed wheD absconded in light suit, light billycock hut, and dark overcoat. Is a stableman, aud likely to be found in markets or fairs with low horse dealers, aud might be dealing in rags, bones, & c. Information to Inspector Alexander, Hants Constabulary, Bournemouth.— Bow- street, April 2d. Absconded from Trench, Elltsinere, charged on a war- rant with stealing, on 17 th instant, £ 2 10s. iu Gold : — JANE JONES, a tram pi a? woman, 60 years of age, about 6 feet 4 inches high, pale romulexion, thin face, hip. li cheek bones, has lost nearly all her teeth, very little hair which is grey, and worn down around her ears ; dressed in a black crape bonnet, black scarf shawl, and a light grey winsev dress, with a row of broad black braid around, about 8 inches frcm the bottom. She occasionally tramps the country with another woman, and stays either iu common lodging- house.* or casual wards Information to Mr. Supt. Goup- h. Oswestry, or to P. S. Walters, Ellesmere, Salop, who hold the warrant - Boa- street, April 21. FRAUDS A. 1D AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded, charged with obtaining money by begging letter fraud:- JOHN SULLIVAN, alias JAMES CLARK and KENNEDY, 74 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow complexion, grey hair, beard, moustache and eyeB, high fore- jhjad, large nose, scar on inner side right hand near fouitb fi , ger,' J. V. W,' and sceptre, stars, anchor, ' W. F. O. S.', heart, and cross swords, on left arm, large scar on nose, right ankle discoloured ; was sentenced to 12 months hard labour at Middlesex Sessions on 30th June, 1879, for attempted fraud, after a previous conviction of 7 years for fraud. War- rant issued. Information to the Director of Criminal Inves- tigations, Great Scotland Yard, S. W.— Metropolitan l'olice, April 26. Absconded charged with fraud by calling on tradesmen, representing himself as butler to Sir. Chas. Murray, who he alleges has come to reside ia the neighbourhood, gives a fictitious order for good?, and then borrows money from them: — JAMES WILSON, alias 03B0URN, a footman, 27 years of age, 6 feet 11 inches high, frcdi complexion, light brown hair and moustache, ( alight), blue eyes, nose rather prominent, slightly turned up, blotches on lace ; dress— short dark blue overcoat, or black walking coat, black and white ( vary small pattern) check trousers, black felt hat. Last heard of at Portsmouth on Lt instant. Warrant issued. Information to The Director of Criminal Investigations, Great Scotland Yard, g, W.— Metropolitan Poliet, April 2G. Oa 14th instant, a woman took furnished apartmc- nte at Stoke- on- Trent, on 17th instant she left her lodgings, saying she was going to Manchester, having and obtained by false pretences from her landlady, a silver Geneva Watch, and £ 2 5s. :— Bhe is about 60 yearBof age, medium stature, sallow complexion, broad face, stout build, seal mark over right eye; dressed in light ulster, email black knitted shawl over shoulders, black bonnet and dress, black gossamer fall ever bonnet. Information to Mr. Snpt. Bowen, Stoke- on- Trent, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 24.
