Notice.— It ii requested that all communications for the purpoie of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE ma; be mado and addrcspod to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Streot, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence oharged, and an attested copy thereof, tegother with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POUCH GAZETTE, oil Letter* addressed to the Editor uw » t be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwardod on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amouut of the rewurd. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 3). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signet! by tine persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the apprehension of the offender. It Is particularly requested that when, owing either to insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or other- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now entitled to recoive them, such Copies may be at once returned through the Post to " The Editor, Bpw Street, London." INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On 16th instant, the body of a newly born male child was found in the river Sow at Stafford, wrapped iu part of a copy of the Liverpool Daily Post Newspaper, dated 21th February, 1881. An inquest was held upou the body on 17th instant, and from the tvidei. ee of the doctor it was shown that the child hud received an injury to the back of the head which caused death, and after death put into the water, where it must have been ft* at least six or eight days. The jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Oswell, The Green, or to Inspector Chaplain, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, Mwch 20. Description of JOHN FLINN, alias BONEY FLINT, alias NOTTINGHAM ROUGH, committed to tike his trial at the next Derby Assizes, on a charge of Murder :— he is 38 years of nge, 6 feet 7 inches high, light brown hair, blue eye » , fresh complexion, very much pock- marked, lie ie a low horse dealer, and a noted pugilist, and has been in the habit of frequenting fairs all over England. Information to Inspector Emery, Boro Police Ollice, Chester- field.— Bow street, March 15. Charged with manslaughter, on 6th instant:— a man, 36 or 37 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, pockpitted, stoutish build, pockpitted in face, and chubby nose, which appears to have been broken ; dressed in cord trousers, old dark coat, and supposed to be wearing a cap; he is a hawker and repairer of umbrellas, and is supposed to be a native of Sheffield ; he is accompanied by a woman, named Emma Shaw, she is about 40 years of age, fresh looking pro- portionate make, and wore a black and white plaid shawl over her head. Information to' Chief Constable Dalgleish, Ashton- undor- Lyne.— Bow slreet, March 13. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Some evil- disposed person wilfully set fire to the farm buildings at Old Learmouth, near Cornhill, Northumberland, about 10 p. m. on 11th instant, whereby two Stables, a large Granary with a quantity of corn, and two Hay Houses were destroyed, and tive Horses suffocated. Information to Mr. Supt. Marshall, Lowick, Beal, Northumberland.— Bow- street, March 17. FORGERY. Charged on a warrant with forgery :— CHAS. STEELE alias CHAS. SABEY, alias J. H. GIRLING, 35 to 38 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, stout build, full beard, whiskers, and moustache, right leg been broken walks lame; wore a plain gold ring, luckle pattern, on third finger of left hand, a similar one on little finger of right hand, speaks with strong London accent; well dressed in a light tweed suit, or a dark diagonal frock coat, vest and trousers, boots with fashionable pointed toes ; left Manchester by 4.15 p m. train fcr London or Birmiugham on 27th ultimo. He presents a cheque on the London and County Banking C<., Ld*, Islington Branch, purporting to be signed by Goldberg and Langder, which is a forgery. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Rawlinson, Mauchester.--. flow- si., March 17. Wanted, charged on a warrant with forgery:— EDWARD HALES, junior, 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 10 inches high, dark brown whiskers, beard and moustache, dark hair, florid complexion, proportionate build. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from a Lady's Satchel at the Railway Station, Middlesbrough, on 17th instant at 12 40 p. m. :— a purple coloured leather Purse, with steal ornaments at each corner, and steal clasp, which is broken anil fastened with an elastic band, supposed to have 3 or 4 compartments, which contained 6 £ 5 Bank of England Notes, the numbers of which will be among the following, probably 4 of them are the fouT first named :— 27273 Newcastlo 12— 7— 75, 04144 Leeds 2— 6- 80, 58941 Loudon 4— 11— 81, 36213 ditto 3- 10— 81, 16287 ditto 3- 12- 81, 06764 ditto 2— 11— 81, 22847 ditto 7— 11— SI, 68247 ditto 2- 12— 81, 15131 ditto 2— 6- 81; £ 2 103. in Gold ; some Silver ; several 2id. and ld. postage Stamps ; and a first class Railway Pass from Barnard Castle, to all places East, date of issue List January, 1882, name Mrs. Hanson, Southfield Villas, Middlesbrough, ' Lofthouse, Cleve- land,' at bottom of ticket. Supposed to have been stolen by a tall woman, with dark eyes, and respectably dressed, and a young man of short stature. Stolen from the person at Burtor.- under- Needwood on 11th instant :— an English silver Lever Watch, maker ' Prid- ham, Queen's- road, Bayswater, No. 7762.' Information to the Superintendent, Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, March 17. Stolen from the person in Manchester, on 2nd instant:— a diamond cluster finger Ring, set with 9 stones. A reward of £ b will be paid by the owner on recovery, and conviction of the thief or thieves. Information to the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester- Bow- street, March 13. Wanted on a charge of assault and highway robbery on a young woman, near Madeley, Salop, about 8 p m,, on 8th instant:— A man, who said he was a native of Leamington, about 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, little or no whiskers, sallow complexion, dark brown hair ; dressed in dark cloth j tckat, brown or blue cord, and black billycock hat. Said he was making for Dudley. Likely to visit tramp wards. Informa- tion to Mr. Chief Supt. lvins, Wellington, or to Sergeant Meredith, Sliifnal, Salop.— Brno- street, March 13. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Wanted on warrant, charged with burglary at Ardingly, Sussex, on the night of the 23rd ultimo ; also for breaking and entering a carpenter's shop, at Ardingly, Sussex, on the night of 22nd December last, and stealing a quantity of car- penter's Tools ( portions since recovered), and other offences : — WM. BROWN, alias BIRDCATCHER BILL, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, very daik hair, rather bald on top of head, veiy dark curly whiskers and moustache, medium figure ; sometimes wears a moleskin jacket, black waistcoat, and rord trousers, sometimes a guernsey with red stripes ; generally makes his home iu Somer's Town, works on new railroads, where he commits robberies of different kinds; well acquainted with several gangers on new lines, is a professional thief; was seen on the new line of railway at Chalk Tunnel, Godstone, Surrey, on 10th instant; also at Croydon with a man called " Gloucester Bill, advertised in Police Gazette of Dec. 30th, 1881, also on 6th instant. Information to the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Mr. Supt. Avery, Cuckfield, Sussex, who hold the warrant for his apprehension, or to Mr. Supt. Berry, East GrinBtead.— Bow- street, March 17. Stolen between 11 am. and 1 p. m. 14th instant, by means of housebreaking :— a Canary, green colour. Supposed by a man about 18 years of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, slender build, broad fsfefo, light complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in black cap, with peak, short dark mixture jacket, light cord or moleskin trousers, and clogs. Hill, Burslem, or to Sergeant Hughes, Police Station, Wolstanton, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, March 17. nut Cob Gelding, about 14 hands 2 inch « 3 high, ring bone on forefeet, squaro cut tail ; also a light spring Cart, painted green, green axles, low front, with a piece of German silver on top of dash board, one wiug broken, and an old set of brass- mouHted Harness. Wanted on a charge of stealing two Heifers ( recovered), from Stock Green, Feckenham, on the morning of 14th inst. : — a man, about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, long face, thin compressed lips, dark hair and whiskers, inclined to grey, whiskers on sid » of face, other parts shaved ; has a peculiar gait, and throws his feet out verjf much wheu walking; dressed in blue pilot coat and waisN coat, cord trousers, and black billycock bafe. Stolen on 25th ultimo, from a field called Bridge Ground, adjoiuing the Tiverton Turnpike Gate, Bishop's Nympton, Devon a horn Ewe Sheep and 2 born Lambs, each marked ' W. B.' on near bide, and a heart on the off pin. The ewe alsti 1 W. IV burnt in on off horn. Information to Mr. Supt. Wood, Devon Constabulary, South Molton.— Bow- strett, March 17. Stolen from a field at Berkeswell, during the night of 6th instant :— two Stirks, one very light roan, most red on neck, the other red roan, with red reck, anu small red patches on back, in ca'f, both in poor condition. Found a: Harmer Hill on 8ih instant, supposed stolen : — a bay 2 year old C jit; and a black yearling Colt, with 3 white feet. Information to Mr. Supt. Edwards, Shrewsbury, or Police constable Roberts, Harmer Hill, Shrewsbury.— Bow- street, March 15. Wanted by warrant for stealing a Horse, Cart, and set of Harness; ( recovered):- JOHN HOLLOWOOD, a farmer's son, of imjierfect education, 28 years of age, - 5 feet 11 inches high, f> e- h complexiou, hazel eyes, Hgbt i rown hair and whiskers inclined to be sandy ; supposed dressed in grey tweed coat and vest, dark cord trousers, and hard felt hat. Has been previously convicted at Ellesmere, Llangollen, & c. He was convicted at Salop Quarter Sessions, March, 1877, for obtaining Money under false pretences, and sentei cod to 3 cal. months. Information to Mr. Supt. BoltoD, Hanmer, Flintshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension. - Bow- street, March 13. Found in possession of THOMAS WILSON, alias RODGERS, who is in custody, charged with stealing the. same : — 2 dark red Bullocks— one 2 yearf old, and one 4 yrs. with white mark on forehead, coth in rather poor condition. This man has been three times previously convicted of cattle stealing; the last time was at Liverpool in October, 1879, when he was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment and 7 years police supervision for stealing cattle at Leigh, in Lancashire. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen during the night of 16th instant, from a stable at d shed at Thornwood Common, North Weald Bassett:— a che; t- LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Charged with larceDy from lodgings at Burton- on- Trent, on 17th instant:— two plasterers, one is 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light brown hair cut short, medium build, chean shaved, flat nose ; dressed in a light twoed coat and vest, cotton cord trousers, and black billycock hat; the other is 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache, broad set, ordinary looking; dressed iu a light cloth coat aud corduroy trousers. Stolen— two white damask Table Cloths, both about If yard long by li yard wide, quite new ; six flax Towels, about J yard long by ^ yard wide, one is smaller and newer than the others ; a woman's white Nightdress, with cmbroidery round neck and wristbands, four tucks down each side ; a girl's unbleached ditto; a plain white unbleached Chemise, torn a little down front ; a lady's bleached ditto ; two baby's ilinnel Petticoats, one long, i. the oilier short, all wet from the wash, value 16s. Absconded from Leighton Buzzard on lltli instant charged with fowl stealing :— JOHN WESTON, a gardener, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale face, [ dark brown hair, slight dark moustache, has shaved, but may let his whiskers grow, has a scar on his forehead, slightly para- lysed, shakes right leg when walking, almost stops every few steps, autl gives himself a shake, aud throws his head from side to side when talking ; dressed in old daik coat and vest, cord trousers, heavy boots, and black hard felt hat which he wears; back he has a mother named Chalton, residing at Basingstoke. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Leighton Buzzard, Beds, who holds a warrant for hi* appre- hension.— Bow- street, March 20. Any persOD, who in the first place gives such information that will lead to the conviction of any person or persons for stealing from Cabs in any district of the Metropolis the Rugs, Capes, Whips, or any other Article belonging to the Driver, will receive One Guinea Reward on application to the Offices of the Amalgamated Cab- Drivers' Society and Centaur, 15, Poland Streot, W.— Bow- street, March 20. Stolen at Kirkburton, between 6th and 12th instant:— an old English gold lever Watch, gold dial, engine- turned cas% had ' Set hands' engraved on inside inner case, had 4 9 8 P O L I C E GAZETTE. March 20 attached an alumininum gold ' Albert with lion Seal; also 2 Sovereigns in Gold, and Is. in Silver. Supposed by a man 34 years of age, B feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair aud eyes, long ginger whiskers and moustache, slender build, and has a bad ( left) leg ; he has been In the army ; dressed in rough, bluo railway slack backed Jacket, old brown plaid trousers and vest, muller hat, and low shoes, both cut down the front to ease hiV feet. Sometime since he was employed on the railway ' at Hebden Bridge. He is a native of Horbury. Information to Mr. Supt. Goodall, West riding Constabulary Office, Huddersfield.— Bow- it., March 20. JAMES FLANAGAN, advertized in Police Gazette of the 13th instant, charged with stealing Cloth, & c. was arrested 0n 17th inst., at Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 20. ELIZA STANTON, advertised in Police Gazette of 3rd instant, charged with stealing 3s. 6d., the property of the Guardians of the Bourne Union, has been apprehended. •— Bow- street, March 20. Stofen from a dwelling- house at Wavertree, about 11 a. in., 10th instant:— a lady's email silver lever Watch, whit6 dial, gold hands and joints and seconds fingers, engine- turned cases, maker ' John James, Liverpool'; number not known. By a man, 35 yeais of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, sallow complexion, slim built, dark brown hair and moustache, shaved clean down sides of face ; dressed in a grey tweed monkey jacket, with narrow stripe, black cloth trousers, strong lace- up boots. Information to the County Police Office, Prescot, Lancashire.— Bow- street, March 17. Wanted on a wirraut charged with stealing about 20th ultimo, a Bill of Exchange for £ 420 :— PETER EMIL WEEKE, about 45 years of age, but looks older, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, he stoop3 and is rather bow legged, pointed features, very near and veak sighted, has generally worn spectacles, hair very thin, whiskers beard and moustache, all turning grey, has a wen on the corner of one eye, thought to be the right one, also scars behind the ears and whiskers, owing to recent application of blisters. Chisels, a J- in. ditto, gill Oil Can, Smoothing Plane, Jack ditto, 2- foot Bule, and brass Bevel ( all stamped ' Wm. Clayton), a Spirit Level and Hammer. Stolen from a clothes line at Sandy Brow, Blackley, between 1 and X p. m., 13th :— 4 pairs of white calico Drawers, two lady's, two child's ; 2 lady's white calico Chemises, a child's calico Nightdress, a boy's red and white striped cotton Shirt, a white calico Bolster Cover, a printed Pinafore with long sleeves, a Pompadour with ditto ; 2 white holland Aprons, one bound blue; a blue and white striped ditto; 4 printed ditto, much faded ; a grey roller Towel, u white cotton Sheet, and a whito flannel Vest, all much worn. Charged with two others ( who are on remand till 18th instant), with stealing £ 1 3s. at Luton, on 15th instant:— a man about 22 years of age, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight moustache, very alight whiskers ; dresfed in a light coat and vest, and dark trousers, his parents reside within two doors of No. 5, Ebury- gardens, Pimlico. Wanted ou a warrant charged with stealing weariiig Apparel ou 6lh instant:— ROBERT CARSON, hair dresser, 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 7 iuchts high, stout build, round full faro, fresh, complexion, light hair, inclined to curl aud parted in centre, light moustache, military appearance, and states he lias becu in the army, has large joint on great toe of one foot, and has the boot cut iu consequence, he is tatooed ou each wrist in imita'ion of bracelet, and sailor on left arm ; won shabby black clothing, and black billycock hat. Ma ch 17 Wauled by warraut for embezzling £ 10 belonging to the Liv. rpool Select Vestry :— RICHARD EDMUND SHORT, a clerk, 29 years of a^- e, 5 feet 3 inches high, inclined to be corpulent, square build, large head, full face, high forehead, large full grey eyes, fa'r complexion, red curly luir rather thin on top, red moustache ( may ba shaved off) active gait, walks very erect, and speaks IU an affected manner; usually dressed iu a grey tweed suit, white shirt, and black cloth overcoat. He left Liverpool on 4th instant, in the company of his wife, wl o is about 5 feet 5 or 0 inchesLhigh, 25 years of age, dark complexion and hair, and rather (. lender build ; dresjed iu a black or blue dress, black j < eket, and black or brown beaver hat turued up at oi. e side. Charged with stealing eighteen Fowls, mixed breed ar. d colours, ( six recovered), fiom the Manor House Farm, Perry Ban-, ou 10th instant: — • WILLIAM DEE, 13 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iu3. high, medium build, brown hair, fair complexion, grey eyes, no whiskers or moustache, has an abscess mark oa neck; dressed iu found dark cloth jackct and troupers, moleskin vest, aud black felt hat, RICHARD DEE, 10 yours of age, 5 feet 6 or7iucheshigh, slight build, tbiu face, light browu hair, light complex'on, grey eyes, has a small burn mark ou top of head ; dressed in dark cloth jacket, light cloth vest, cord trousers, and black hard hat. Infoimation to Mr. Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich, or to Inspector Evans, Handsworth, near Birmingham, who holds a warraut for their apprehension.— Bow- street, March 15. Further ^ formation respecting GODDARD BOOT- MAN ( advertised in Police Gazette of 3rd instant) :— he served about two years in. the Suffolk constabulary, aud Ins since been acting as groom to a doctor, and ostler at an hotal; is a good groom, horse clipper and trimmer, can drive single or double ; when dressed is of s- nart appearance, and of good address, he is likely to seek employment as groom or ostler at an ' nil. Plant, Cheshire Constabulary, Broxton.— Bow- street, March 13. Description of JONAS SUNDERLAND, late clerk to the Local Board at Thornton, W. B. Yorks, wanted under warrant for embezzling £ 120 and upwards :— he is 22 years of age, but looks older, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, pale complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, a clerk, auctioneer or valuer, heavily pockpitted, nc bottom of right cheek and slight moustache ; dressed ifreight co'oured single- breasted cloth overcoat, narrow striped Brack and white cloth trousers, black worsted cloth shooting jacket, vest of same- material, and lace up boots. Information to Inspector Symonds, West Riding Constabulary, Bradford, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, Marl 13. Description of ELIZA STANTON, charged on warrant with stealing 3s. 6d., the property of the guardians of the Bourne Union :— about 30 years of age, medium height, pale thin face, rather sore eyes ; dressed in round black straw hat with lightish coloured tiowers in front, black cloth jacket, rather short, fitting tight in back, and brown stuff dress. She is a native of Market Deeping, her parents are dead, was some years on the town at Stamford, and has worked in the factories at Bradford and Leeds. Ii formation to Mr. Supt. He was convicted at Chester Assizes on 15th Decem- ber, 1875, for burglary at Monks Coppenhall, and sentenced to 7 yrs. penal servitude.
